TAPS was before Ghost Adventures. When TAPS started I really liked watching their show, although
it was a little boring every now and then ( as they only would show their „findings“ at the end of the show 🙄) They had this one Halloween special, where they blatantly faked something for everyone to see ( you could literally see a string being pulled), that’s when I couldn’t watch them anymore. I think they lost almost all fans because of this.

The thing that always bothered me about this episode of Ghost Hunters is that the Penitentiary they were investigating is truly one of the most haunted places in the eastern U.S. Once they used this obviously fake clip the whole credibility of this entire investigation went completely out the window. What a wasted opportunity?
Yes! Eastern State Penitentiary has a genuine sinister past with loads of deaths from tuberculosis. Even Shane Madej admitted hearing something odd.

Omg yes! I saw this when they first did it and I always thought it looked like someone with a blanket over their head. Never understood why they used it so often, it looked so obvious. Even for old garbage footage. Thank you for doing this one! I'd love to see more debunking of the older ghost hunting shows. Used to watch all the old shows religiously! It's great to see their secrets revealed lol!
That white leg is the only reason I even noticed anything when I watched that episode on its original airing
Let me tell you more about the episode surrounding this clip that I believe completely invalidates this footage. I had debunked this one by the end of the episode because they basically showed the audience how they did it. This episode was filmed when Brian was part of the team. Earlier in the episode you see Brian with white sneakers, and you will find that the Ghost appears to have white objects under it. Brian actually shows the guys a black table cloth later in the episode and is all like...well...did it look like this and everyone on the team was like...no...not like that...but anyone watching was like....YEAH...it looked JUST like that. And it was interesting that they had a black blanket with them for Brian to use. Now we know they had the tools to do this. LOL That is Brian under a black sheet, approaching the camera until someone told him...okay...you are barely visible in the IR and then he runs out of the limited range of the IR light again. Then, as you said, they sped the footage up. There were a few episodes where GhostHunters made some critical mistakes that made it obvious they were faking it. You can see Grant pulling a string in his pocket in one episode when he claimed his jacket was being tugged on. And there are many more examples. Like you said, if one is faked, you must assume they all are. It was really disappointing to me when I caught some of the more obvious ones later.

I remember wayyyy back when TAPS was caught out for using fishing line. So I wonder where all the other fakers got the idea from? LOLZ. Stay safe.
I started watching Ghost Hunters after the loss of my dad. I really wanted to believe there was something more, and I believed, and I wanted to believe, these characters were being honest with their findings. I feel so foolish that I now know they were faking all along. Thank you for the debunk, Mr Grey. There aren't many in this world that I feel I can trust to be honest with me, but I believe that you are honest with your viewers, and I appreciate you for that.
I knew that was the one you were going to show. I used to watch them. They're on again under the name Ghost Nation without Grant. Grant's doing something else. In the beginning I liked them because they'd tell people they couldn't find evidence, and they're the only ones who tried to debunk. But then everyone and their uncle was incredibly haunted, and it irritated me. But the cringiest has to be Ghost Adventures. They're the ultimate dude bros.
They get points for entertainment in my book. Call them cheesy, fake and much more, but they also provided my favorite scene ever from any ghost hunting eps: One guy is setting up a camera on top of an old tv. Suddenly it turns on. He jumps a meter into the air, (it was very clearly not one of their planned cheats) and he calls another guy on the walkie talkie. The tv turns itself off. This repeats itself a couple of times, and the guy is mystified, till he figures out, it was his walkie talkie setting it off. Hillarious!

I Remember seeing that my junior year in high school and when I saw it I said its a guy hunched over in a cloak I can even see his shoes, and dropped the show right after that.
Loved GH when it came out. They seemed like honest people trying to find proof of the paranormal. I was pretty sad with their investigation of Myrtle's Plantation, where it was caught that there was a different tablecloth in the review of the lamp moving then what was actually there. The Crescent Hotel episode still kind of freaks me out though. Later they went from helping people in houses to doing theaters, impossible NOT to get noises in those, and taking Adam on board as a newcomer. Everywhere that guy went something touched him. We used to bet on how long into an episode it'd be before he claimed something touched him!
DAN I CAN'T EVEN FINISH WATCHING THIS BECAUSE THAT CLIP PISSES ME OFF IT IS BRIAN IN A BLACK CLOAK! I'M AT 5 MINUTES AND 29 SECONDS AND I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO SAY THIS CLIP oops sorry I didn't mean all caps. That particular clip for me is cringeworthy! It's obviously so fake I cannot believe you would even doubt that. Although I have not finished your video yet so maybe that's what you're getting at.. it was at this moment, this particular evidence review that confirmed to me that they were faking a lot of stuff. And it was literally heart-wrenching. come on man you could see the dudes sneakers underneath the cloak!!!!

I remember when this show was on, they would every once in awhile actually debunk stuff they found. I remember when I watched this episode, I thought "Oh, well that person obviously didn't realize the camera was there, they were probably faking stuff all over the prison and just forgot they set up a camera there, and the boys will call them out on it". They then proceeded to present it as real. I was like "Are you kidding, you can clearly see a person's leg and sneaks stick out from under that black cloth!" I was really disappointed after that, and that was in their first season!
You go sir, I would love to meet you and we do our own investigation and your absolutely correct once that money rolls in they are no longer a progression of themselves and start making bullshit. I am so glad someone else finally saw that, I have been arguing about it for years. If you slow it down you can see the sneakers of the guy wearing a black blanket over him himself. I guess he is pretending to be a (booo) ghost. My partner and I have been researching the paranormal for years and whatever that anomaly is it does not follow your shooting schedule. They don't do anything on command. With a lot of invested time you might get something, but you can't plan a shooting schedule around it.
I always wondered why the dust was swirling as much as it does in that video. I always wondered if it was wind because the windows are open, but once you slowed it down, it looked like normal dusty air.
I used to love Ghosthunters, but when the new shows started, one with Jason and the other with Grant's return, I watched one episode of each and was over it.
On the shadow, I thought they had tried to reproduce the shadow on the show and I'm not sure if they have video of it out there, but I read the Wiki on it and they do state the pant leg, said they couldn't debunk it. I'd like to see the debunking attempts if they're on YT somewhere.
I agree with you both on your impression of the Ghost Hunters and the TAPS group, although I always just assumed that the clip was just a bug on the lens or dust that got disturbed by air currents and nothing more than that. Maybe it might have been a person under a cloak or something, but Idoubt it.

the rather low quality of the clip doesn't help us getting an idea of what was done. Ultimately this is what helped that show the most, the low quality of the images made it hard to spot some of the effects they used.
I missed watching that show with my father, we laughed alot at the cheese and also hoped to see something legit, or at least that looked legit, it was fun.
Just found this video, and omgosh, Thank You! I remember seeing this when it aired. I saw all of that at the bottom of the walk way, too, but I don't believe they EVER addressed it in the show. To me, it looked like someone ran up to the camera, covered in something big and dark, turned around and ran off. What I remember them saying about it was that it "manifested out of nowhere", and was a great piece of evidence. This was the thing that made me question them. But, I also believed they were legit. Or, I guess, more accurately, I HOPED they were legit. I knew they were better than Most Haunted, though...lol
I think this is also the episode where Brian shouted, "DUDE, RUN!!", and he and Steve ran out of there, which ticked Jason off.

Omg I swear I was going to send you this clip, this episode aggravated me for year's. Now I believe you are psychic lol. I was going to email u this clip months ago. I always felt like the clip was rewinded. When I first watched this episode ,I thought it was a real person with a black sheet. It looked like they speed up and rewinded the clip

I went to Eastern State Pen a few years ago (2016). There were only a handful of tourists in there at the time, super creepy even in the middle of the afternoon.

Interesting fact about eastern state penitentiary dan, it was used for the prison in the great film ‘shawshank redemption ‘.
Ohio State Reformatory was actually used.

This was already explained and apologized for by Jason and Grant during one one the episodes. They disclosed that it was one of their investigators faking the apparition. They fired the investigator. Now whether they knew about the fake before hand or if they were caught by surprise, that’s up for debate.
LOL... I suffer from problems with my chair too... I'm going to need more foam to sit on since I've smushed all the original foam cushion and an extra cushion, and I find bits of the 'leather' on the floor thanks to my kitty-cats' claws... Yep, we need new ones!

I watched Ghost Hunters for several years when it was new, and I was impressed early on with their seeming honesty and professionalism. I recall many occasions when they 'debunked' their own observations with mundane explanations and I grew to trust them. I believed at the time that they had honorable intentions, at least at first, though I suspect that as time wore on they were under mounting pressure to 'get results' in order to keep the audience engaged and keep the show running.

I remember watching this episode of TAPS and thinking there was something not quite right with the "shadow being" and now I know why thanks to Mr Grey! I couldn't watch TAPS investigations much, I actually found them boring and when Ghost Adventures came out they were much more entertaining and scarier got watch especially in the pitch black of my bedroom. It seems like the image in the clip is fainter than an actual person would be. I thought you would say they ran two clips together to lighten the 'ghost' clip. Also, the person walking would have kicked up a ton of dust, so I thought it would have to be two films run together.

There is no such thing as a plausible ghost video, photo, story or claim. At the very least, someone has to answer, why we are born naked but somehow retain clothing after death? This alone debunks ghosts 100% as far as I'm concerned.

these ghost hunter dudes almost faked themselves into stardom but because of a few strings, bells and whistles, and there deceitful thought patterns brought them to ruin when they may have achieved greatness on the paranormal level and gone down in history after there own deaths as ghost hunting Legends.
After their start many moons ago, of course being a paranormal enthusiast, I've watched most every episode of T.A.P.S. (as well as the others that followed behind). I always hoped they wouldn't have the need to fake anything, but the pressure of staying on the air ($$$ talks) will make most honest men fudge a bit here and there.
One clip that I'd like to see you look closely at, is the original episode of the 'ghost' in the St. Augustine Lighthouse.... Thanks for all your hard work and due diligence.

I admit, I'd never heard of TAPS! I don't go around looking for fakers...theres already too many to choose from! I've been into paranormal stuff over 40 years so I think I can 'see' fake when it happens. This was a weak attempt at faking a spook. Good video as always Dan but heres a radical suggestion when creating a show..turn the damn phone off! I used to DJ live and the OFF button was the first thing I hit before going on air. Besides a cell phone can cause interference to the computer. Nos Dda :-)

I actually really like Ghost Adventures. I watched the live episode when a guest tried to fake an incident… a guest on the live show threw a radio and tried to say it was pulled! Twitter went crazy! The people watching it live were really angry. Zac Bagins addressed the situation and threw the guy off the show! The crew were really angry.
Now… a lot of people said that the whole thing was a stunt!! Zac and co were in n the faking and made a fuss to add credibility!
I don’t think so but I have kept an open mind. I still watch Ghost Adventures and have since they began. I like their shows
Hey Dan, there is a series of videos I saw on nukes awhile ago that all had to do with a “haunted piñata” lol. There’s a clip with the creepy looking thing popping up in a pile of stuffed animals and others with stuff moving around in the store, shadow people in the store at night, all leading up to the “finale” with him going to fetch the piñata out of a beat up old car in the middle of nowhere and he wrecks his car. Lol Anyway, I think they’re bs but it would still be cool to see you debunk them 👌🏻

Hey Dan. What I remember most about Ghost Hunters was the catch phrase "What was that?", because they said it multiple times each episode. It made for a drinking game that would ruin your liver.
There was an episode of Ghost Hunters where something tugged Grant's hoodie, but they caught a thermal image of it. The image seemed to get colder when this happened, like something cold was grabbing his hoodie. Have you seen this episode? If you have, what are your thoughts? How could they fake a thermal image change? It's bugged me for years.
I believe Ghost Hunters came out first. The paved the way for the other parashows to come out. I really enjoyed the shows when they first came out and pushed me to start doing actually start doing paranormal investigating rather than reading about it. I know they were bunk after watching them for a couple years

On a more serious note talking of OG paranormal shows have you or would you do one on my old favorite Most Haunted? Seeing the late Derek Acorah going into fits and Yvette Fielding and her old man pooping themselves over their shenanigans used to have me in fits of laughter, So video on this would be much appreciated.

When I watched this clip at the time it aired, I thought a ghost is wearing white soled shoes or pants? NO way!
Like everything else if they get a good show , they keep wanting more and more so "it is produced" to keep the
audience happy.Bottom line money trumps reality all the time.
I could have sworn that, during this particular episode, they stated this was a recreation of an encounter they had earlier when cameras weren't rolling. Does anyone have the entire episode?
I can't remember if they did sya that. I did try finding the original episode though .
I have the full episode and thats not the case.They present this as real footage, send it off for post processing to brighten it up.Then because of this footage they go back in the same episode for 2 nights and during the second visit they get Brian to put a sheet over his head and try to debunk the footage and to be totally honest the debunking attempt looks nothing like it. Bare in mind they take big black sheets everywhere with them to cover over windows etc while ïnvestigting" they're shown in later episodes. I still think the original is fake though.
Explains why they, or others, don't analyse their footage as much as the location - good work Handsome Dan!!

So glad you did this one. I never would have figured it out. Used to watch Ghost Hunters all the time. It was far more interesting than it's copycat, Ghost Adventures. Probably because they made a point of debunking some things. In Ghost Adventures, everything was either a ghost or a demon.
