How do you use the tester if the CCA is not written on the battery? Some batteries have no info on them & most small gel cell batteries only have the ah rating.
If its a cranking battery, it should be rated for CCA and be on it unless it's fallen off. But there are many batteries that are not cranking batteries. In that case, you can just use the default and use the tool for a voltage meter. The tool is really more meant as a cranking battery tester.
It can even test small lithium batteries, then only mOhms are the cue. Just take known good one as reference and check mOhm reading. I think it only tests voltage and mOhms and then evaluates wether it's good or bad.
For smaller batteries, like for a UPS, CCA would be irrelevant. What matters with those is their RC (Reserve Capacity) which these testers cannot measure. To calculate the CCA is just a mathematical equation, why these are available so cheap now. But RC is far more complex and time consuming. These budget testers can give you a ball park of a batteries health but a bad battery can still test with high CCA yet have poor RC, or be self discharging from failing cells. Batteries can have multiple states of failure. Testing the CCA is generally a good enough indicator of health but there are other parameters that can be difficult to test DIY.
Nice video, I bought one off the back of it. It confirmed my old battery was knackered. Interestingly my brand new battery reads about 500cca despite the battery having a 640cca rating. I wonder if the battery is dud or the tester is dud.
Interesting. I have just used my identical new tester on my relatively new car battery and had a similar result. Will test again and maybe reply again.
It does seem to be. The voltage will be a little higher than normal right after a charge until it levels out. In a car would be different. If the car is running it will get a high reading because of the alternator. I would only test a car battery in the car if it was not running.
It should be listed on the battery if it's a cranking battery. If there is no label, then look for markings on the battery for info and search that online. Not all batteries are meant for cranking and may not be rated that way.
@@drameriemmanuel1187 Even if the CCA is wrong, the tester will still run a test as long as the battery has around 12 volts to it. Not all batteries have a CCA rating because they are not cranking batteries. CCA is just the amount of amps a battery can provide when in very cold weather. Deep cycle and solar type batteries are not usually good in cold weather and need to stay above freezing.

Good review. Some other guys couldn't even figure out that tester shows more than just CCA.
Thanks.
Was looking at this battery tester and found your video and than ordered it. I found this video very informative!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video, just what I needed for a budget tester.
Glad it was helpful! It's a great tool to have around.

Nice test tool, easy understand, good video
Glad you liked it!

When the battery is bad does it show "Bad" on the testers screen?
Yes.
Would this work in lithium ion car batteries?
I think it's really more for lead acid or agm batteries. Lithium has higher voltages and would probably throw this off.
Is it still accurate right after a charge or if still connected to car?
It does seem to be. The voltage will be a little higher than normal right after a charge until it levels out.

i bought this exact one in my country because it costs just $10 for the tester 😅
That is a good reason to buy one.
How can i determine the cca of battery when not written on battery
It should be listed on the battery if it's a cranking battery. If there is no label, then look for markings on the battery for info and search that online. Not all batteries are meant for cranking and may not be rated that way.

Can i use for testing solar battery
You can, but the info will be based on the type of battery you are testing.

Muy buen vídeo y muy útil sobre todo porque el battery tester no trae instrucciones. Gracias por subir este vídeo.

How do you clear the reading?
You can just unhook it and it will reset.
