Woooow my life is full circle! Never did I think my little childhood grocery store in middle of nowhere Pennsylvania would make it on UA-cam! Literally 7 minutes door to door from the house I grew up in (thankfully my parents still live there!). We’d always go for breakfast though. You also get a free meal on your birthday!
That is so neat that you were only 7 minutes door to door. It is such beautiful country side in Lancaster County. You are so fortunate to have grown up there and that your parents still live in this amazing place. We will have to return for breakfast - we bet it's great and it sounds like a return on a birthday is the way to go. Thanks for watching, Kathryn.
Wow that’s a big Golden Corral lol 😂. Lol just kidding. That’s some kind of buffet. Glad y’all took us along Every that way we will give it a try. Thanks again. God Bless
You are right! - It reminds me of when Wal-Mart started building Super Wal-Marts, this is like a Super Golden Corral. Thank you guys for watching and we hope that you guys have a great evening, PT_II. God bless
That's really neat, Michelle. The countryside is so beautiful in Lancaster County. We bet that the restaurant has really had some big changes over the years from the 80s. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your kind words, @David Salyers! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you! We wish you a Happy and Blessed New Year!
I’m from Pennsylvania I was born and raised in Lackawanna County until I moved down to North Carolina in 2004. I order birch beer by the case every year before Christmas time. I think I went to this restaurant or something similar when I was a kid a few times my grandmother lived in that area. I used to really enjoy going to visit her because she always had the best food. Every Sunday we used to go to a diner in Pennsylvania after church.
That is so neat, @Ashleigh Wilson! We really enjoyed the beautiful sites and foods on our visit to Pennsylvania. The birch beer is so refreshing. We can see why you order it by the case. It sounds like you have had some wonderful memories with your family in Pennsylvania. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a wonderful week so far!
This is our favorite place to eat when we visit the Lancaster area and we love the gift shop downstairs. Glad to see you guys went! Never had a bad meal here and the selection is insane. They do free meals on birthdays too.
The gift shop is just as impressive as the buffet. We were running behind on time so we didn't get to see the entire gift shop but we hope to return again soon. Thanks for letting us know about the free meals on birthdays - that's very good information to know when planning. We appreciate you for commenting and for watching, Mikey.
FYI...free meal on your birthday! (w/purchase of an additional adult meal, valid ID required (birth certificate for kids 4-16), must be purchased on your actual bday-if your bday falls on a Sunday when they're closed, free meal is Monday (ONLY!) Best food around!
@Stefanie2530, that’s really awesome! Thanks for sharing that with us. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a great week so far!
We would agree that they definitely have mastered replenishing the food. It's unbelievable how many people they serve at the restaurant. The crowds at the buffet are always a bit much for us. Great job showing us Shady Maples!
It really is unreal just how many people they are serving. It would be interesting to see a behind the scenes look at their kitchen and how they cook a steady flow of food for over 1,000 people at a time. We hope that you guys have a great day and thanks for watching.
It was definitely a little overwhelming because it was hard to choose where to even start. We've never seen so much food at one time. It's definitely an interesting experience to here at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord. Thanks for watching, CindyLuWho. We hope that you're having a great start to your week.
@MrsChe, that is too funny! We would love to go back and try out their breakfast, as we have heard many people say that they liked the breakfast the most there. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope you have a great week ahead!
Dutch cooking is never drowned in spices. Pot Roast tastes like roast beef in a similar-tasting gravy not overpowered with salt or pepper. It is to be seasoned to your taste by you. Amish people keep things simple. Whatever you eat will taste like what it is. Seafood night is always busy... Good pies are Shoo-fly, Mince-meat, and Rhubarb...
We have tried many Amish restaurants (mainly in Ohio) but have not tried their Mince-meat or Rhubarb pies - Thank you for the recommendation, Rockubtzer. We will definitely check those out next time. Thank you for watching.
Correct regarding the lack of seasoning in Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. I love their cheesesteak sandwiches. And when it's seafood night, the ability to eat rather large quantities of peel and eat shrimp.
That place is huge! What a great variety! Anyone who left there hungry has only themselves to blame! Hope to try it one day. If ya'll are ever on interstate 77 near Beckly W.Va. you should try the restaraunt inside the Tamarack. Amazing food! Anytime we go to Ohio to visit family we eat there on the way up...and on the way back. The Tamarack itself is a really nice place to visit. Lots of Appalachian crafts and history. Hope ya'll are having a great Fall weekend! God bless!
You are so right, Cathy - it is impossible to leave the Shady Maple Smorgasbord and still be hungry. We will have to try the Tamarack. There's a chili dog restaurant that we have been wanting to try in that same area, so we will eventually need to head over that way to check it out. It must be amazing if you stop there on the way up and the way back. Thank you for the recommendation - we love Appalachia and its rich history. We hope that you had a wonderful weekend, Cathy.
@Rob Marks, it is a very impressive place! We may have to try out their breakfast on our next trip to this area, as many people have said that the breakfast there is their favorite. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a great week!
I can't imagine all you can eat Prime Rib! I would be planting myself right next to that! I must say you and Jennifer have some mad parenting skills! When Jennifer described those crab cakes as like Captain D's stuffed crabs I knew exactly how they must taste! How were those noodles? Hate to sound like a broken record but I love your boys. Little Henry is sooooo impressive, my gosh he named everything on his plate! Excellent, hope to see more Amish reviews while you are there.
We wish that we had tried the prime rib and the fish from the grill, but we were just too stuffed. Thank you, Candace - we really appreciate that. You can definitely imagine how they tasted because they were spot-on to the Captain D's taste. The noodles were not our favorite - we've eaten at many other Amish restaurants and they weren't our favorite. We thank you so much for your kind comments about the boys and you don't sound like a broken record at all - we appreciate your comments. Henry definitely isn't shy about eating - he usually does a good job of cleaning up his plate when he eats lol. Thanks for watching, Candace.
We appreciate your kind comments very much, @Dan! We have so much fun together. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having an awesome evening!
@Liz, it is one of the largest spreads of food that we have ever set eyes on! We are so glad that you enjoyed your meal there. Thanks so much for watching! We hope you had a Merry Christmas!
We felt like they needed to wheel barrow us out of there towards the end. It's an overwhelming amount of food to choose from. There's no way to leave there hungry, that's for sure lol. Thanks for watching, dp Mart. We hope that you're having a great start to your week.
thank you very much for this great update and great history, this is the largest buffet in the usa and it seats 1200 people that is huge ,, and again i love your honesty on the food
It is such a massive place and for us it was a little overwhelming with how much food there was to choose from and the size of the crowds. Thank you for watching, Frank. We hope that you're having a great start to your week.
We researched this place beforehand, so we knew about the service fee, but we can't remember if they had mentioned the service fee to us or not. They do have signs that say "no tipping" but I honestly can't remember if they mentioned the 12% service.
I love smorgasbords so much that I don't go to them anymore!! Lol!! Plus we don't have one in our little town!! This looks so delicious, my mouth is watering!! Wonderful share as always guys!!😊Robbie
lol, we need to avoid smorgasbords but when we saw that this one held the record for being the largest in the U.S., we couldn't resist giving it a whirl. The greatest struggle was to decide which foods to eat when there were just so many to choose from. Thank you for watching, Robbie. We hope that you have an excellent day.
@Teri Longacre that’s awesome! We hope you had a great breakfast with your family. A lot of people are saying that the breakfast is their favorite. We will have to try out their breakfast next time we’re in town. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope you have a great week!

@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV Thank you so very much for your kind words thoughts and prayers. Been a long time since I had visited Shady Maple. Beautiful place. Kind people. Delicious food. Extremely thankful ❤️
Glad you enjoyed shady Maple i prefer Breakfast at Shady Maple I only live a few minutes from there I haven’t been there in a while I like it better when they was in the smaller building. I love the white birch beer👍I hope you got to site see Lancaster is a beautiful place😊
We will have to go back and try the breakfast sometime. We can only imagine that it must be amazing. We agree - Lancaster is an amazing place to visit and everyone there is just super friendly. Thank you for watching, Cheryl.
I weigh 175 pounds and go to the Shady Maple 3 or 4 times a year. If I lived a few minutes from there I would probably weigh 300 pounds. Do love it, though!
such cute little boys! My hubby and I have a good giggle when they are describing their food. I hope we get to go to shady Maple one day. Its on my bucket list (we are Aussies, loooong way from the USA)
@Sparkley Pegs, thank you! They are so funny! They keep us laughing all of the time. You’ll have to let us know what y’all think when you try out Shady Maple. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope you have a great weekend!
Ha! Henry says it was too much.. lol Looked good! Hard to try everything. Wouldn't so to live close to that!I love that part of the country. So y’all have family there or just on vacation?
It was very overwhelming to see how many options that they had available. We were on our way through the area to visit Hershey Park and stopped here along the way. There's not much else around the restaurant but people travel far and wide to eat at the Shady Maple. You definitely can't leave hungry after visiting here.
Oh my goodness! I’m not usually a buffet person, but this is just dang impressive and all looks so gooood!! So much meat options! All the sides look great. I feel like there is definitely something here for everyone, wow! What a huge salad bar. I prefer my perogies with mashed potatoes inside instead of boiled 😊 that’s how I make our homemade ones! The 3D pictures are cool. Another awesome video and review you guys! 😊
We're not big on buffets either. We feel that sometimes the quality gets lost in a compromise to have more quantity, but we couldn't resist going here since it holds the record as being the largest in the U.S. It was very overwhelming to narrow down which foods we were going to try but it was also a very fun experience to visit here. We bet that your homemade perogies are amazing! Thank you for watching, Meg & Greg.
That plate weighed as much as Henry! I was sold when you showed the slushie machine. No idea where this place is but maybe one day. Pierogis are a polish treat. My brother married a wonderful polish lady. Yup they should be a pasta. They come with many fillings like cheese.
It sure is, @P J L! 😂 Our boys really enjoyed their slushies after their meal. Shady Maple is located in East Earl, Pennsylvania. Pierogis in the pasta form are delicious! We really enjoyed our visit to Pennsylvania; especially, the horse and buggy tour through the beautiful, Amish countryside. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a wonderful weekend!
We're sorry to hear that they haven't returned in MI. Hopefully it won't be much longer before they'll open them up again. We hate to hear this for the small business owners who have buffet style restaurants. Thank you for watching, Deborah.
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV -- Our fast food restaurants aren't even open inside in the populated areas. 😞 Not that we eat a lot of fast food but, just shows the difference. Enjoying your videos!

They serve upwards to 50000 people on a Saturday- B-L-D - better off going on a week day - Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days - 170 feet of food - - Hard to believe that Esh's Furniture store that's beside Goods Store was the original Building - Dutch cooking is not highly seasoned mire bland than what most people are used to - Shoe Fly Pie is made with molasses- the 3D paintings were made by twin brothers Agnes and Aron Zook - sadly they have passed but they were very nice guys
@Julie Henry, thanks for sharing this information with us. Lancaster County is such a beautiful place and we really enjoyed our visit there. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a great week!
the pie kind of looks like Mince Meat Pie?????? ( no meat) it has fruit that's the "meat" I am from the south and I LOVE this pie for Thanksgiving and HOLIDAYS
@Lenora Hawkins, that sounds like a delicious pie. Shoofly pie is a rich pie of Pennsylvania Dutch origin. It is made with molasses and/or brown sugar, sprinkled with a crumbly mixture of flour, sugar, and butter. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a great week so far!
We agree - It definitely does not taste like raisins but we mentioned that it tastes like a raisin pie that we’ve had, which also contains molasses as a main ingredient. Thanks for watching.
We agree that some of the food was not the greatest but there were many things that we did enjoy. Like we mentioned in the video, many items are hit or miss. Thanks for watching.
This is nothing negative to you. I'm kind of glad I watched this because I've considered on and off throughout the years about going there but literally after watching your video that did not look appetizing. Thank you for showing it to us I know where not to go. Definitely not worth the drive

It's okay, as a local, we don't actually go there. Went once and it was meh for the price. Food is bland mostly and just average. You get a free meal on your birthday. The only thing I'd go there for is breakfast. Imagine the piles of bacon and whatnot you could consume.

Wow that's a big one wish it was closer to me in South Carolina lol . Do y'all live up there?
Hi Peggie! Yes, it is HUGE!! We're not far from you in South Carolina - we live in Tennessee.
Cool we love Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. My family and I come up there every summer
Nice to see that buffets still exist in other states. They have not returned in MI.
I loved in Lancaster for 2 years and never heard of this magical place 😯
@Joseph we hear that their breakfast is pretty awesome. We’ll have to try their breakfast next time we’re in town. There is definitely a lot to choose from there. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope you have a great week!
This reminds me of the grand buffet in narbonne France.
Roast beef is 🔥 my fave with the stuffing
We'll have to try out the roast beef and stuffing the next time we visit. We also want to try out the breakfast. Have you been for their breakfast? Thank you for watching, gorymarty56.
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV no I've not been for breakfast, I live an hr away from it. I normally don't get up early. Lol
Pass!!!
Thanks for watching!
What a endless buffet of choices.
Choosing what to eat here is so complicated because there is just so much food to choose from. Thanks for watching, Venture lyfe.
😊❤ amazing
Thanks for watching, Frank! We hope that you had a great weekend.
Where in Ohio did you grow up? I am from Williamsburg outside of Cincinnati
@Mike Ogle, I grew up near Wilmington. That’s really cool that you’re an Ohio native as well. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and we wish you a Blessed New Year!
any place with the word smorgasbord in the title has to be good.
Most definitely! This place is just so unimaginably HUGE and there's no excuse for leaving hungry here. Thanks for watching, iNerdya.
❤
The Dutch Amish don't spice up food. You have to do that to your taste. It's just good basic comfort food.
the pie kind of looks like Mince Meat Pie?????? ( no meat) it has fruit that's the "meat" I am from the south and I LOVE this pie for Thanksgiving and HOLIDAYS
@Lenora Hawkins, that sounds like a delicious pie. Shoofly pie is a rich pie of Pennsylvania Dutch origin. It is made with molasses and/or brown sugar, sprinkled with a crumbly mixture of flour, sugar, and butter. Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a great week so far!
Shoo fly pie is made with molasses in it, it does not taste like raisins!
We agree - It definitely does not taste like raisins but we mentioned that it tastes like a raisin pie that we’ve had, which also contains molasses as a main ingredient. Thanks for watching.
that can't be true the food wasn't so great when I went there
We agree that some of the food was not the greatest but there were many things that we did enjoy.
@Melissa Morgan, we have heard from several people that their breakfast is their favorite. We may have to check it out at breakfast time on our next visit to this area. Thanks so much for watching!
Im sorry if this was in ireland for food safty it be closed down u wouldnt get that here or nxt door in britain
Hi, @Noel Cahill! Do you all not have buffets in Ireland or Britain? Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and we hope that you’re having a great weekend!
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV we do buddy there not as much a thing now but the food is not out in the open as much as that place ye were at our health and safty standards wouldnt allow it like that as with people anything could be going into the food we would hand in a plate and 1 person would fill it u wouldnt be doing it yourself
Why are they saying roasted chicken? It’s fried.
broasted
5:33, this kid stole the show.
He sure did, @J J! Thanks so much for watching! We hope that you’re having a great week so far!
@@EveryDayIsSaturdayTV I'm going to Shady as of now for company lunch.
We hope that you enjoyed your meal, @J J! There’s definitely, a lot to choose from! Merry Christmas!
It's okay, as a local, we don't actually go there. Went once and it was meh for the price. Food is bland mostly and just average. You get a free meal on your birthday. The only thing I'd go there for is breakfast. Imagine the piles of bacon and whatnot you could consume.
We agree - there's a lot of food but we felt the food was average and some was below average. We are with you - we do eventually want to return for breakfast. It's hard to mess up a good breakfast and we bet the bacon from the area is fresh from the farm. Thanks for watching, James. We hope that you're having a great weekend.
Just whatever you do, Don't go for the Pizza at Shady Oak Drive.
That's brisket NOT prime rib. Better
They had it labeled as prime rib. Each item that we showcased was labeled as such. We agree - brisket is much better. Thanks for watching, Friedrich.
Amish live via 19th century not seasoning process
Eeeeeew. That place is gross. As a Pennsylvanian go to Habachi buffet instead.......
@april jorstad, we have heard mixed reviews. We felt that the food was average, and that some was below average. We do eventually, want to return for breakfast, as many people have commented that they enjoy the breakfast here the most. It's hard to mess up a good breakfast. Thanks for watching, April. We hope that you're having a great week!
I’d be loading up on the meats. I might toss in a token veggie just to keep the vegans at bay ….. 😁
@USNVA11, 😂 love the “token veggie” comment! You and Brent share the same carnivore spirit….LOL! 😆Thanks so much for watching, and we hope that you’re having a great weekend!
12% service fee to serve yourself. 👎🏻
@Jacob Hearns, we agree that 12% is pretty high for buffet service. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! We really appreciate you, and we wish you a Blessed New Year!
