- Shady Maple Smorgasbord, located in the heart of Amish country, in Lancaster County, PA, features a 200 ft. long buffet specializing in Pennsylvania Dutch cooking.
It is the largest buffet in the United States.

This might be the BEST Buffet in PA !! I was born and raised in Lebanon Counry, PA my family and I have been coming to Shadey Maple for many years, boy do I miss going there now !! I'm retired and live in SC with my Daughter and wife. They have buffets down here but nothing like SHADEY MAPLE.

We love going for breakfast. Every time we go out that way its a must to grocery shop at the farm market in the back there!

My oldest sister and her husband have eaten there several times. They live in Maryland only a few hours from Lancaster. They often go to Lancaster for the weekend.
Can't blame them a bit. That's a beautiful area, and Shady Maple is very good.
Not sure what part of Maryland they live in, but we had lunch in Baltimore on our way back home yesterday.
They live on the eastern shore in a little town called Millington. I have another sister down in Salisbury.
We've been driving from NY to here on a whim for a few years now, they are the best!

Thank y'all so much. Yes, it was kind of overwhelming. We enjoyed everything that we tried. I thought the fried chicken was excellent. I also thought the pot roast was very good and tender. She really liked the Harvard beets and the shrimp.

Glad you were able to go to Shady Maple! I saw you tried the different kinds of drinks. Did you try the Birch Root beer? David really likes the taste of that. There is definitely no shortage of food there. What did you think of the shoefly pie? My favorite item on the Amish Buffets would be the brown butter noodles. So much to choose from! Thanks for sharing!
I did not try the Birch Root Beer there, because I was so in love with the Hawaiian Blue juice drink. But I did get a Birch Root Beer at an Amish Market we stopped at afterwards, and it was very good.
I have never seen so much food in my life. Shawnasi loved the Shoofly pie, and I thought it was pretty good. I can't say it was my personal favorite, but I think it was her favorite desert. I did enjoy the brown butter noodles, as well as the fried chicken, beef brisket, garlic parmesan wings, fried shrimp, and well, I'd better stop there. I also loved the raspberry cheesecake.

I live in Lancaster, Pa. and Shady Maple is a popular tourist attraction so we only come in the winter when tourist season is over 😢

A little too big for me. Used to eat at the little eatery that was downstairs. That is gone now☹ Grocery store and bakery is the best👍
I understand. I don't remember it back then, because this is the only time I've ever been. I did love the large selection, and it is an impressive building.
I love videos when we learn something. The largest Buffet in the USA. The paintings by Abner Zook were awesome, and those 3-D effects, well I was like Wow! Then to read he actually started them in 1959. Gosh such a talented human being. Lots and lots of salads, entree's, side dishes, and desserts to choose from. It was a win win on every front. Those loaves of homemade bread at the beginning I am sure I would have purchased one or two for later, and maybe a couple shirts to help them out. Awesome Video!

One of our most favorite places to visit. Even there bad (strange named stuff) is good. For the money and buffet, it's amazing, but we always eat too much and make ourselves sick. And their breakfast is awesome as well. The place is amazing. Food is amazing, the shop downstairs is really nice.
Yes, we really enjoyed our trip there. And like you said, we ate ourselves sick.

The lines moved quickly, and it was definitely worth it. The food was great, and we'd do it again, if in the area.
The lines move rather quickly actually and the workers are quite friendly at least the ones who sit you. The food is .. buffet food. I wouldn’t say it’s any better than like local fast food restaurants (I think some of the food are even better at the fast food joints than what’s offered here I.e. the fried chicken). But it is something fun to experience overall. The hype is that it’s the largest buffet. But I think really that just means size of the building because I’ve seen more an array of offerings in other buffets in California and LV. It’s worth a visit at least once I think though because it is worth the money. We went on their mother’s day event this year and it was crowded! But we had a decent time.

I agree with you, that the lines moved rather quickly, considering the length of them. I would probably differ with you on the food, as compared to fast food. I thought the fried chicken was very good...juicy, and full of flavor. There are some excellent fast food fried chicken places, as well. But I would certainly put this right up there. Also, the pot roast was some of the best I've had anywhere.
I would agree that it is worth the money. We paid just over $44 for the both of us, and for all-you-can-eat, I don't think that can be beat.
Definitely worth it. They move people quickly and there is a lot of seating available.

Did you try scrapple . Smells amazing, taste not so amazing to me. When my wife's uncle smother it in syrup, that should have been my first clue. Lol
I think it is very similar to what we have here in NC...Livermush. And I'm not a fan, so I didn't try it.
I went last month for my free birthday meal. I ate way too much that day. Needed to walk around their Farmer's Market next to the Smorgasbord.

how much is a ticket to get into eat ?
Depends on if you go for lunch or supper. We went for lunch, and for the two of us, it was just over $44.
It may even depend on what day you go, I'm not sure. I'm sure that's all on their website.
I hate it when people just don’t tell the truth. I went there with my husband the place looks pig pen people throw food everywhere the time you sit down your food is as cold the drink glass taste like soapy dish water. It’s not good. It’s like stuff they opened up out of a can. It’s the most horrible buffet I’ve ever been to that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it. I wish people would just tell the truth. PS. Don’t waste your time.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion. You are not entitled to insinuate that we are being dishonest. There is literally no reason for us not to tell the truth. We are not on their payroll, and we don't owe them anything. We gave our opinion of it exactly as it was.
And the scenario you described is not one that we witnessed. We saw literally no one throwing food, the place was very clean, and our cups did not take like soap.
To put it bluntly, you're exaggerating. But you hate it when people don't tell the truth.
You imply we are not being honest, and one of the reasons you give is because people there were throwing food? Do you think the people who were throwing food when you were there, are there every day? Did it even occur to you that they might not have been there the day we were there, and that nobody was actually throwing food? You call us dishonest over that?
If it were as bad as you say, I doubt tour buses would come there from hundreds of miles away. Not to mention all of the other comments on this very video, from people who have been there and loved it.
You're kind of in the minority here.
By the way, let me just remind you that when you say "don't waste your time", this is actually our channel and our review. We make the recommendations here. You're free to review the place on your own channel.

Her comments were completely disingenuous. The way you can know if someone is being honest in their experience, is that even when they have to mention something bad, they will also tell you what was good. When they are complaining about everything, as she is, then you know they are just angry and have an axe to grind.
Because NOBODY has THAT many bad things happen to them in one visit. It just isn't credible. Maybe 1, or perhaps 2...but no way EVERYTHING is bad. I mean, people throwing food, the cups tasting like soap, everything out of a can, etc? Not even sure what her point was.
At any rate, I do not mind someone disagreeing with our review, and even saying their experience wasn't good. But if she wants to give reviews and advice as to whether or not to try it, she can make those recommendations on her own channel.
You notice she just disappeared after that one comment?
Anyway, thank you so much for your reply. I am glad you experiences there were as good as ours was. If there was anything about this place that was impressive, it was how clean they keep it, considering how large it is.
We thought everything we had was good. The very idea that she was calling our honesty and integrity into question, over HER "experience", warranted the response from us that she got.

Very well done and honest presentation of Shady Maple. I live in Lancaster. Been to Shady Maple more times than I can count, both just for the smorgasbord and also to many, many, banquets and private parties. There is so much good food there that it's extremely difficult to pick favorites, but my mind goes to the fried chicken first. I have have eaten apple butter and cottage cheese since I was a kid, over 80 years ago. I love taking first timers there to watch and enjoy their reactions, especially when they realize that all the hype is legitimate. A gigantic gift shop and it's on the lower level. No "please exit thru the gift shop" baloney. Being local we know better than to go during tourist season and therefore are usually there during the summer. In fact, watching your video made me hungry. I think I'll pop over there this week in spite of the tourist season. Thanks for a good job on the video and I admit I'm filled with a lot more to say but will close feeling good about your experience st Shady Maple.

Yes, we were very excited to go there. Our friends up there knew we wanted to go when we visited, so they took us. So many great options. We enjoyed our experience there.

Wow was right, I cant believe the size of that place. This place should definitely be on people's bucket list. I'd have to go on steak night though. Did yall visit the Shady Maple Farm Market grocery store?
We did not visit the grocery store. That would have been nice to see.
Our meal for both of us, was just over $44. I do think supper would have been a little bit more, but you can see what a vast selection we had to choose from, even at lunch. And being all you can eat, it's hard not to like.

Yes, we did need a long nap after that. After we woke up, we went to the Sight and Sound Theater and were blessed with free tickets.

Yes, they were with us, but mostly stayed either in the motel room or at our friend's house in the air conditioning. They were not with us at Shady Maple.

awesome video and review, all the years we have lived in pa close to lancaster area we have never been there. so surprised how large that place is. we tend to steer away from those places cause of the cost per person, and we never eat that much, but might have to try it, looks nice. and my co-worker stated that if you go on your b-day you eat for free, or he said they used to do that. the gift shop looks cool too. thanks for sharing always enjoy, glad you and the mrs are having a great time
You might be surprised at the price. It was only $44 and change for my wife and I, but we did go at lunch. But you can spend more than that in a lot of places now, even when it's not all you can eat. You can certainly get your money's worth there.
