Ok, now update. Followed this video and used my Firestick 4K on older tv and it has been easy to use following your set up and I really like. On my other comment re the new LG tv, well, finally figured out it is not Fire platform but something else.. BUT, thanks to following some of your other videos and trying to learn how to use the Firestick, I discovered from your "apps running in the background video".. that the new smart tv leaves things open and running, hence the very large data usage. The Firestick is easy to turn off apps "sleep mode", but smart tv's not so easy, but with your explanations, I was able to go into settings and figured out UA-cam was running 24 hrs a day, using up to 20 or 30 G's a day... since discovered & turning app off every time it is used...daily usage now 3 to 4G's and no longer way over our usage limits! Thank you for your video's and information. I love the Firesticks ease of use... smart tv.. not so much. Wish it was just a tv with a Firestick but you saved me tons of $$$$ with your info.

I meant we do not have the Firestick hooked up to the smart tv as it already has lots of streaming apps that come installed with the smart tv so didn't think to even try the Firestick so I can't really tell you if it can be used on a smart tv or not, sorry. I still find the Firestick we added to our older tv easier to use than the smart tv.. but then that's us, we're seniors and limited on the high tech stuff. ha
Thank you just ordered one fire stick on Amazon , already cut my cable a year ago and using an outside antenna with a good 30 local channels with Amazon prime and VUDU and utube . I think the fire stick will complete me .
same i do house cleanouts /rubbish removal for a living and end up with all kinds of brand new stuff for free including one of these sticks,but i have a lg smart tv (also claimed from a cleanout) plus a gaming pc so ive never really pulled it out the box till last night out of curiosity. heck i dont even use the features on my smart tv cause of my computer but i figure maybe i should just to watch shows to give my pc a break an just use it for gaming.

New to Firestick which we just got in Dec., then in Jan. we finally got good internet service with new towers so ready to advance into the computerized world. We also got a new LG smart tv which has some of that stuff on it also. Everything a little overwhelming and confusing for seniors right now but you have started us off easy. I'll let my husband struggle with the smart tv (he is remote hog) and I'll go use my Firestick on our other tv and see if I can figure this all out. Would love to cut the cable cord at $170 a mo.

You have done a great job to make our lives easier. One question, when you are on the firestick , cinema, you go watch a movie and you tap on a link and then the movie that comes up is not the one that is listed how do you fix that??? Thx again for your insight
Thanks for the compliments. keep in mind cinema doesn’t host the streams, only redirects you to streams which can change daily. So it will be unreliable. Especially with how many servers that are getting shut down. I would consider upgrading to an IPTV - I use SterlingTVofficial.com - ask for a free trial.
so is it the device that connects to the internet or the tv? seems like this should be one of the first things mentioned since you said this is for beginners. I literally have never used these devices, so this would be helpful to know how it connects to the internet.

There must be some way to use the firestick ONLY to turn the tv on, select HDMI, and turn it off without using the separate original tv remote first. My firestick will turn the tv on, and it goes to the 'select HDMI' screen. How do you get the firestick to switch/select the correct HDMI location (HDMI 2 in my case)? Like I said, I can turn the tv on with the firestick, but I can't used the firestick to switch over to the HDMI 'button'. I've tried pushing on the circular ring, but there is no response on the tv screen to move to the correct HDMI. I now have to use the original tv remote to turn on, and then switch to the HDMI location, and THEN I can use the firestick. How do you get the firestick to do EVERYTHING, without needing the original tv's remote? Thank you.
John, your best bet for an all in one solution is a cube. With the fire cube you can control the input by simply asking the remote. Stick does not have that option. I love our cube

Ok, so very new to streaming...just checked data usage and using Firestick streaming with the new LG Nano 2160 res. on Netflix is using 20-25 Gigs a day...new G5 tower allows us 215 per month...going way over. Do you have a video on data usage in streaming? We didn't know new TV's took so much...$10 for every 50G over 215, appears we'll be more than 300G over...gonna be a BIG bill.
Update: After several months, we found out the big data usage was from the apps staying on in the background on the smart tv's. They continue to use data. UA-cam app was running 24/7 and it was the one using all the data. You MUST close apps on the tv's before going to another channel or turning off tv. We dropped from 20-25G a day, down to 1-3G now and always under our data limit now, even using gaming. Its a learning curve for beginners!

You still need a firestick. You can’t unlock a smart tv unless it’s a fire tv edition. Purchase that one if you can. Otherwise you still have to buy a stick

It connects to your tv for display and your internet for connection. It makes any tv a smart tv
When you buy one and connect it to your tv, it walks you through that step. Do you have one?

Not exactly sure your question. But the firestick requires a wifi signal. You don't need to pay for cable, just wifi if you have a firestick.

You shouldn't have this issue. I would contact Amazon to get the remote replaced. You are using good batteries, not cheap ones?

The lite has a new interface that just came out this week. All firesticks will have it soon. It’s actually better.

@@CuriosityCafe apologies, I'm not explaining myself very well, I know how to download apps, it just that certain apps, like ITV hub (a UK TV app) is not navigable with the remote, also I've downloaded Strix but it won't bring up the keyboard to enter the pin number, these are the issues I'm having, but thanks again

I want to do the 4k max with the mission power supply but have a question, I have my Vizio Soundbar in HDMI Arc can I put the fire stick 4 kmax in another HDMI, I will be using my Vizio surround system.

You still need a firestick. You can’t unlock a smart tv unless it’s a fire tv edition. Purchase that one if you can. Otherwise you still have to buy a stick
