- As I revealed back in April, my current daily driver is the new Audi RS4. It comes with a 2.9-litre V6 turbo engine packed under the bonnet, which should be able to generate approximately 444 bhp. But when we put the car to the test on the dyno, will the results match up with the specifications? Watch my latest Vlog to find out!

I love that RS4 in Nardo. Lovely car! I am super bummed that Audi chose not to bring it over to the USA (along with the RS3 Sportback) but have put my money into a TTRS anyway. Audi is making some great cars lately.

Just wondering, could you test a 2010 e klasse w212 e200 claimed to have 136hp, their is a lot of faf going around that it actualy hase 155 or more from the factory. Please.

Audi always understates it's real power, it doesn't want to humiliate Mercedes and BMW too much
David Davidsonn They also do that, i know it from Mercedes from the E63 S und i guess it's the same story with BMW - otherwise the 600HP M5 would not keep up with the stronger E63 S.

You know how much power a stock M4 makes? That's just crazy. Average above 500hp.

I have a regular a4 sline but by the looks of this one they are like 2 completely different cars. The RS badge really does it’s job.

My s3 gave out max 324 BHP torque 345ft ibs facelift stock and 389BHP / 378ib ft with a stage 1 / air intake

My S8 made 520bhp with only 900miles on the clock before I tuned it, so would love to have seen it with 3k miles on. Apparently F10 M5’s are very under quoted, mine felt as fast as my tuned S8 and it was stock.
What exterior spec is it? Is it Nardo Grey with standard silver/aluminium details (radiator grille frame, etc.)?
Is the suspension hard? with the potholes in today's roads you want a nice smooth ride...
David it is a sport family car.. of cours it is a hard suspension and a little less hard when you put it in comfort but why then would you not just buy an A4 instead..

If you do own it outright and its not on finance from audi then definitely I would recommend you get it mapped. Even at stage 1 it will unlock so much more power. My S3 is at Stage 2+ now and its like a different car!
What was the wheel bhp though? That estimate of the fly wheel power can be massively out depending on what power train losses you're presuming.
I'm assuming that's the same engine in the RS5? Wonder if the RS5 is quicker as it's lighter than the RS4 or is there no difference I had fun with an RS5 trying to race my Litchfield tuned RS3 it makes 500bhp in that little compact hatch i left him for dead it was awesome!

Question.. how is it on the roller dyno showing 460hp and they say at the crank? Then how much is at the wheels? Roller dynos are supposed to show power at the wheels not bhp

The figure quoted from Audi is based on very basic fuels available in some countries. In the UK we have decent fuels available so will always see an increase, but it does mean that for the parts of the world with lower RON fuels they still get what they pay for. 👍🏻

You can only ‘estimate’ engine power on a roller. As long as the after figures are larger than the before figures your winning. However I know this session was only to find the estimated factory output.

Can you make an accurate comparison when one is measure engine in car and measured engine not in cAR?

It’s because they’re using a calculation to get to that crank hp level. Modern cars lose less hp through the drivetrain so they need to update their calculation. So let’s say it made 358 wheel hp and they use an old calculation of 22% driveline loss that makes it 459 crank hp if they update to say a 20% driveline loss the power at crank would be 447 hp. It’s all in these calculations that’s why it’s better to go off raw wheel hp levels instead of using crank hp calculations
Wonder what their conversion from wheel to brake hp is. That could make this difference
Can someone explain the difference between ps (also what does it stand for) and brake horse power please, I see them all over the place and I’m not sure what the difference is thank
PS is short for the German word Pferdestarke - means metric horsepower - there are online converters for bhp/ps

That's because BHP and HP are different figures. HP is clean horse power generated and BHP is the power you get after the loss from mechanical counterparts (eg. cylinder friction)

Great result! I own a 2014 S6 and even though I have no proof I am pretty sure it has at least the claimed power! Just drove through Germany together with a friend and his 2015 RS6 and it keeps up pretty well :)
That has to be a corrected figure, as that dyno is measuring power at the wheels directly (the car was on rollers) and manufacturer claimed figures are at the crankshaft. Not comparing apples with apples so these types of dynos allow a correction figure to be applied so that 'equivalent' crankshaft HP is displayed. Here's the kicker. I believe that correction figure can be set at whatever the dyno operator thinks is a good thing! So I'm calling BS!
