    I have just about 100 MVS Shock boxes and I absolutely love them. I love love love looking at all my MVS arts lined up in the Shockboxes. Yes this hobby is expensive but you just have to have the love for it. Absolutely great video by the way!

      I was thinking about this just last night, just how damn expensive all of this is. You really almost have to think of Neo Geo as its own thing because it gets so far beyond where most average video game collecting prices and availability is. It’s kind of hard to put into words, but I agree, you can enjoy Neo Geo at a moderate level, but once you commit...it can get crazy.

      Even the MVS it's pretty expensive, but I'm thankful I didn't jump on the AES train. Last thing I want to remember is how much I spent on SVC Chaos lol Probably my least favorite game I have but at least I still enjoy it! I want to get a NeoSD someday for games I don't care about but I'm making sure I get all the original copies of games I know for a fact I want to have, and I think I'm just about done with that. Only 1 more game I want for my MVS and that's Mark of The Wolves. The thought of it is making my wallet cry, it's tempting to just get over it and find the Dreamcast port since I plan to get a Dreamcast fight stick anyway.

    Your collection looks incredible. I'd spend all day just cleaning and admiring the boxes. Great stuff. I have purchased shock boxes from southtown as well. I don't have a big collection, I went the NeoSD route. But I purchased boxes w/inserts for the carts I do have. Once I held a shock box in my hands, I knew it would be a requirement. Great video.

      If I had to start fresh today I’d probably get an AES, a NeoSD and then about ten MVS carts for the cabinet. It’s crazy how much even MVS stuff is going for now.

    The moment I started collecting NeoGeo MVS years ago, I ordered approx 55 Shockboxes to go with my titles. It was expensive and was initially disappointed in the lack of quality coming from their prints colors and resolution. I even call them to get my money back on some of the poorest prints. I decided the best route was to custom print my own inserts. My collection never looked better from that moment on. Now that the prices have gone up and my collection have also gone up in numbers, don't know what will I do next :)

    I will get some shock boxes eventually. Im still in the phase where Im more concerned with finding certain carts though. Locally there is an arcade shop that has MVS carts for 50 but everyone is either samsho, samsho2, or bust a move which are all games that I own lol. So for now Ebay has been mainly where I hunt for titles. My collection is 6 carts so I just display them on top of the cabinet unboxed so I can switch them out easily. Congrats on 2000 subs, you have a great channel so its a no brainer that people will be drawn here!

      @ScarletSprites  5 років тому

      Thanks man! Yeah, those are some of the more common carts. You should try joining some forums or Facebook groups and checkout the marketplaces. There is a Neo Geo Buy Sell and Trade group on Facebook that has some repeat and known safe sellers. It’s global, so shipping is sometimes high though. Speaking of boxes, there are a few places that also sell white boxes you can place carts in with a spine label. They’re definitely cheaper than the shockboxes, but lined up on a shelf they look decent with the spine artwork.

    I sold my entire MVS collection a few years back with st shock boxes. Over 80+ carts.
    Started back up buying mvs carts. Have about 50 carts and leaving them loose. If I purchase a cart that comes with a shock box I'll keep it with the shock box but prefer loose since It doesnt take up as much space.
    When I owned my 80+ carts I had a IKEA shelving unit dedicated just for MVS carts. Now I have my carts inside two padded crates.
    From a coolness factor nothing beats displaying your mvs carts in ST shockboxes. I just don't seem to care about that stuff anymore and just want to enjoy the games.

    Now that I have a MVS Magic key, I can see picking up some of the great less expensive MVS carts just to fill out my collection a little. My only complaint is that the MVS Magic Key has a death grip that is worrisome but thus far hasn't been an issue. This place needs to start selling durable replacement cart covers and quality printed stickers... that way you can buy a top tier, fully functional and tested Japanese MVS carts that the exterior has been completely roached for far less money and really make it shine again... even though the only thing left that is authentic are the interior chips. I can see that this approach might be anathema to some collectors, but I just want something that plays good and as it was intended and still looks great on a shelf.

    • @ScarletSprites
      @ScarletSprites  5 років тому +1

      It seems like a lot of converters, Neo Geo or even NES/Famicom, like to put the death grip on things. Southtown will print MVS labels for you, but the handful I’ve made myself for IronClad and Ghostlop I used Cricut vinyl sticker pages and printed in my standard Epson ink jet. Definitely serviceable.

Hopefully I will be able to get a machine this side of Christmas (am hoping I get an email from James at JNX for him to take my order for one of his units but if not I will probably get an Omega) I'm keen to have a proper Neo Geo machine at home but will most likely get the NeoSD rather than collect the official carts...may get a select few though, who knows.

      Glad to hear you grabbed a controller! I love the Neo CD controllers, it’s become one of my favorites. I agree that JNX would be my first choice, and I’d avoid the Chinese units given the variability in quality control. I know Neotropolis, Neostore, and Arcadeshock are some other possible alternatives. I would also agree that if I were starting out now, I’d definitely go the NeoSD route. I was just in so deep already when those finally came out that I kept going with pickups. Now though, prices have really sky rocketed.

I heard that these Shockboxes do a great job storing those games as well after a small mod to the case, the problem is that not all PGM games have any available cover art to put in the cases art sleeve. There's a select bunch with either no art whatsoever or no artwork styled for IGS PGM in the case of some of the Cave shooters. I might have to make my own, but that will definitely be hard with no base or reference to start with.

I have a few like these that I had to repair. Dont know if I'm explaining myself right. I also ordered a Magician Lord print and it was awful. I know that at one point they mentioned downtime for a new printer, so I’m guessing that has made a world of difference. I’m not aware of anyone doing AES covers, but that could be simply because I never looked. There used to be some good sites with scanned artwork, but most seemed to have shutdown. I would only get these for loose cartridges, but if I own a kit, I rather just leave them in the box they were originally packed in.

    I wish there was another variation where it could be used for CAVE CV1000 boards (since they offer cover arts for those games). It's possible to cut away on the plastic, but I'm afraid I'll cut too much off and mess up the casing.

      I agree with you. I have some PGM games I’d like to toss in cases but I’m not a fan of paying $13 for something to then have to cut it apart and possibly screw it up.

  • @QuetzalToon005

    a cheaper option would be go get a box that looks like a kit box, if yea go to usp they have boxes that are a bit bigger than a kit box but are perfect for a neo geo cart as well as being super cheap, and all yea gotta do is print out a lable and presto

    • @ScarletSprites

      I’ve also seen smaller white boxes that are barely larger than the MVS shells with some decent high quality color labels. They’re not bad at all either. In fact, the Viewpoint I bought a few years ago came in one and I was surprised by how nice it was.

    • @QuetzalToon005

      When it comes to the Neo Geo games honestly if I can get a Neo Geo game cheaper whether it's on the mvs, the Neo Geo CD, Dreamcast or any of the other systems that those games came on I'll most likely get those versions instead I'm not really looking to get a complete mvs set but it is nice to get some mvs carts to play on my big red with.

    I like the idea of the Shockboxes as a way to protect and display your MVS collection. I have the opportunity to purchase a working 2-slot red arcade machine in decent cosmetic condition for $450. Do you think this is a reasonable price? I like the 2-slot because it has the memory card slot.

    • @ScarletSprites
      @ScarletSprites  5 років тому

      I’d definitely take a 2-slot for $450, especially if it comes with a board and carts.

      I unfortunately don’t. I don’t do too much PC gaming, so I’m not nearly as up to speed on that area. I know what you’re asking for though, and that does sound like a cool option to replace the old school boxes if they exist.

    • @ScarletSprites
      @ScarletSprites  5 років тому

      That’s good at least! The weak colors are definitely disappointing and look like inkjet prints most people could have done themselves. I’ve tried to scrutinize the art more to avoid the blocky prints. The dog tag covers seem to generally be a little better because the actual art work is then smaller and framed within the grey border.

    Always wanted to get into collecting MVS; however, I want to get a consolized MVS but I keep hearing that they don't work well with upscalers and fry them out.

    • @ScarletSprites

      I guarantee if you get a consolized unit from Jamma Nation X, it won’t fry an upscaler. James does great work, but he’s almost always working off a waitlist. The cheaper ones on eBay had issues when they first became popular, and I think that some info has come out about what it is that needs corrected although I haven’t paid too much attention to them.

    Hello my friend good evening
    I am very happy, thanks to your encouragement and your videos I have my MVS, all its content was very important in my decision, the labels, reviews and mainly southtown box, it seems a boy's dream.
    My MVS came consolized in an AES casing, but I'm restoring it and will soon show photos.
    I would like to have a doubt.
    In the various MVS Inserts, at the end of the game name has an acronym with the name of the creator.
    Through his experience as a collector,
    What creator are the best jobs.
    Thank you again.
