I'm having a lot of fun consolizing my MVS MV-1FS, but that CBOX looks pretty convenient. I saw that "CBOX blew up my OSSC" video, and I basically thought "Ok you just don't know how SCART cables work". I'm of the opinion that the resistor should be on the board and not in the cable, but if people are producing videos for others to consume, they should be knowledgeable about the subject. Like you are :)
Glad you did this. As a guy who has very little income and had to sell my entire sega collection a few years ago due to hard times ~ ive always wanted a neogeo but obviously could never ever afford one ~ but i saw this, and thought...one day this is doable! Maybe for xmas.... so lets watch and see what you say.
Hiya mark Me and my brother have just purchased one each of eBay and I have to say that your recommendation was spot on even the build quality is beautifully brilliant, (definitely more a solid build than even a PS4) picture quality is second to none with no picture noise what so ever. By the way people! Component works flawlessly via an OSSC. Mark you are a credit to UA-cam, you are a credit to the whole internet, keep up your excellent informative reports Big salute to you sir ;)
They are great for the cost. I bought an upgraded stainless steel cased version of the Chinese CBOX. It comes with more types of controller ports than the plastic cased version. It's totally AWESOME!! Just a little over $400 with 3 day delivered and I say it was money well spent. Mine works perfectly with a Retro-Bit 2.4GHZ wireless Sega Saturn controller. I would personally like a slightly different button layout but it works fine as is and I've gotten used to it. Start is still Start, Select adds "coins" and pushing both Start & Select gets me straight to my Unibios menu. I don't think I would like to own an authentic AES console as much as my stainless steel consolized MVS. For video and audio output I use a simple $30 Neo Geo RGBS to HDMI converter from Amazon. Plastic or Metal, the Chinese CBOX consoles are an inexpensive way to enjoy a real Neo Geo Arcade experience.
@ the hardcore SNK MVS fanboys: it not like the original MVS hardware wasn't glitchy and faulty. 4 slots motherboards are finicky, and other types of MVS motherboards are better than others. when you buy one, it is kind of the lottery. You always have to remove the carts and put them back because games don't start, ask any BIG red owner. nothing is perfect! i love when retro gamer wants the perfect picture quality nowadays when we used to play on crappy old and small CRT as kids and the picture was fuzzy. like we had the best experience on a 14 inch crt through an RF switch.
As a proud owner of a 2 Slot MVS Big Red I can verify that sometimes you do have to remove the carts and put them back in to get it to start up, but it's pretty rare. I think I may have had to do that once a year in the 5 years I have had mine. But a lot of the people saying the CBOX is going to fry their upscallers all admit that they have no idea what really did it for ONE person and are basing it off the one guy that Retro Core "calls out" in this video. I saw the video he was talking about and it was super sketchy but hey, gotta get those UA-cam clicks, right?
Vasili appears that it is taking much longer then he thought offered to send my unit on Tuesday unless I'm willing to wait 2 more weeks. Not sure if worth the wait
I would never tell anyone how to spend there money. It is genuine mvs hardware so I cannot knock the hardware as it is a Neogeo , some of the bolt on's are questionable but I am in UK and use a crt so somthing like this is not designed for me if I am honest (we have rgb natively). I made my own about a decade ago now only cost me £40 and still going strong, this is essentially the same thing with some bits added on for Ntsc people and mono :P if your happy with what it offers make yourself happy fuck people like me
The Stereo mod is a must. The battery mod is also good to have but in my opinion Neo Geo games don't really need a battery unless you care about high scores.
Late posting, since I've just started digging into Neo Geo options. Madlittlepixel's vid was the first I watched, and so I wanted to do more digging before blowing up my XRGB mini. I would have been cool with just s-video from a CBOX MVS, but know RGB is possible makes this a really nice entry point. I've also heard about the CMVS from Jamma Nation, according to a FB post about 10 days ago they said their CMVS setups won't be open for order again for like another 2 years :'( So looks like this is it for the moment. I live in Tokyo and work in Akihabara, here's to hoping I can find some treasures :D Thanks again!
Thanks for posting Dash Cancel TV. Luck you, working in Akihabara. Mind you it's a shadow of it's former self. In the mid to late 90's it was a billion times better than it is now. No crappy Maid cafes, next to no DVD stores (Thank you PS2 for that!). Only games stores and arcade PCB stores as far as the eye could see. It truly was a gamers paradise back then.
Thanks for this Retro core. You always give a verdict from a real persons point of view. I'm still not gonna buy one of these but at least you made this show 'n' tell fair and realistic. I think you should do a comparison between Something like this and Emulation station x86 (batocera/recalbox) on an old PC/laptop or netbook from 1998-2008. So many people have junk pc's hanging around at home gathering dust, plus a lot of modern televisions have VGA input still to this day. I play neo games in this way and have yet to see a better solution.
I have an old laptop that I can connect to a TV via VGA. It runs NEO Geo roms just fine but I just find playing on a dedicated console more appealing. The end result however is pretty much the same.
Awesome. You are an advocate of good times. I fell the same way about games and that console feeling. So, one very long weekend in the not so distant pass, I converted my old pc into a console. You can buy a new small form factor case for the hardware (or use a deep black spay paint) to make it look better, and then, once 'Recalbox' is installed you don't even need a keyboard and mouse plugged in. I've got mine hooked up to my 50inch TV with 2 'MayFlash F300 Fightsticks'. The result is AMAZING! I only need to hit the power button and its on and booted from a flash drive in 5-10 seconds. I can already see from the quality of you're device reviews, you seem to have a deep understanding as to how EMULATION works. I personally think 'YOU' would make light work of such a modification. But all in all, You keep up the good work Retro Core!
So many people in the classic gaming community know nothing about everything.. I never use a upscale converter (living in the UK 90% of LCD/LED TVs have direct RGB Scart input) I have never had a issues with over scan on any RGB input.. Them cheap Cartridges are ok for a quick game but I would Recommend original Carts or the NeoSD MVS Complete Edition Flash Cart.. People complicate things in gaming..
What kind of rgbs cable are you using for this unit, and could you provide a link? Do you know if it uses c-sync or sync on composite? I’m trying to use my cbox mvs via rgb with a mega drive 1 euro scart cable with no luck - all I’m getting is a scrambled image. Every other video output seems to work fine.
C-sync isn't an issue with Japanese stuff. I've never had to worry about it. I doubt the cables have any C-sync since they are Japanese 21 pin RGB cables, not Euro Scart. I buy my cables from a seller on Yahoo Auctions. I'm afarid I can't put a link to him directly.
As a Neo Geo elitist I have been on the record multiple times stating with pride that I own a 2 Slot MVS "Big Red" cabinet, and you know what? I don't really care how people get into collecting for this system, be it an actual arcade cabinet like I own or a consolized version; live the dream! Yes, it's still expensive to get into. I lucked out and got a great deal on mine when I got it 5 years ago, but owning a Neo Geo has been a lifelong goal for me when they first came out when I was 10 yrs old. While MVS game prices have shot up through the roof because the retro bubble has caught up with even this system (I bought several games that were around $60-80 three years ago and are now over $300) all I have to say is look out for bootleg carts if you care about that sort of thing (not the multicarts but high priced games without serials, etc). Take the plunge if you can afford it, I have been glad I did.
Thanks for your input, Ken. The Neo Geo sure is an expensive console to get in to but also an excellent one. Good advice on the bootleg carts. Even MVS carts are bootleged these days.
I have taken the plunge! I started with the NGCD about 4 years ago... LOVE IT I'm glad I started with THAT console and got the heavy Load times out of the way! But this year i said screw it and got an AES and went nuts at tax time! I now have like 14 games plus a cbox and the 161 in one plus more on the way!!
I've got a 161-in-1 and a 4.0 unibios, it fixed a lot of the issues with the multicart and added the awesome pick-n-mix mode. I wonder if it would solve their issues as well.
Thanks for another informative video ! Never been into fighting games that much so not a big fan of NeoGeo, but soon Ill have to finally got to know this system.
Good to see it's worth it. I've been on the wall for a while trying to decide what type of consolised MVS to buy and loved the look and price of this one but was disappointed when I saw the vid with the OSSC crapping out. Thanks for clearing up the info on that. Gonna order one of these in the next week or so!
The reason why the multicart tends to glitch out is because it's a voltage hog so the entire system draws the standard power supply down too much and it automatically resets. It doesn't exactly happened with all of the multicarts or the same only part of the same batch but it is a known issue. Normally in an arcade cabinet you could have an adjustable power supply to compensate for the low voltage for use with that cartridge.
@@RetroCore your milage may vary depending on what multicart you get. Quality is up and down on them (some in the same production batch) so some "Banana carts" will do it more than others.
How is the image quality of a C box when hook up to a CRT thru s-video, I just want to know if it's worth to mod a Sony Trinitron 32S22 that I have. I'm planning to build a cabinet with that
No worries, Chris. You may read some people stating that it's dangerous to use a NiCd battery on a circuit designed for LiOn battery. Actually, it's perfectly safe due to how NiCd batteries work. Doing it the other way around is dangerous though as LiOn batteries just keep charging until they overheat and blow when connected to a circuit designed for NiCd batteries. My CBOX has been connected to the power for 3 weeks now and in use for many hours without any issues at all.
This needs a Mega Drive 1 cable, not a 2. The cable length isn't the issue though. You need to make sure your cable has resistors in it to regulate voltage. A good cable will have these.
hi guys, can this mvs works with "SNK NEO GEO CD Controller Pro Joy Stick" or brooks converter(Brook PS4/PS3 to NEO GEO Super Converter) connected madcatz (Mad Catz Arcade FightStick PRO)?
From this, we can assume the Neo Geo CBOX uses the same DIN input as a Model 1 Mega Drive? Also, Retro-Access is the place to go for American owners. Handmade cables, very well-constructed, a lot of options, and they also offer BNC breakout cables as well!
Retro Core I asked retrogamingcables if he made a cable that would work with this and he said no. I wonder why he doesn't think his mega drive 1 cable would work. Also, have you tested your console with an ossc or only the framemeister?
SkootDiggity I asked as well and they told me not until he has a unit to test. I just want to know if it's a jp21 cable or a mega drive euro scart cable???
All we really need to know is what components must be inside the cable and where, and then we can ask our cable makers if their cable has them and if not to add them for us, and we will know that we will be fine as long as it has those components. Not sure why it's so hard to get a straight answer as to what these fabled components are... Can someone please just lay it out for us in simple terms what resistors and caps need to be where?
It's a Japanese Sega Mega Drive 1 RGB cable. It was bought from a seller on Yahoo Auctions who goes under the name of michael_torojirou. He sells cables for many systems. I've bought MSX, Saturn, PC Engine and of course Master System / Mega Drive / Neo Geo RGB cables from him in the past. All are excellent quality but they're not cheap at 3500 yen a cable.
Retro Core - ah ok, so you're not sure what components it has in it that prevent those harmful voltages you spoke of? It would be very handy to know exactly what the requirements are to have inside the cable to prevent damage when usinf the CBOX. It is basically required info for anyone getting one, so please do share if you happen to know. Anyone buying an RGB cable for this device should be checking to make sure the cable has said components regardless of where they are buying from.
skins4thewin yes, good idea, I asked retro cable UK and they said they would not guarantee any cable for this system, I guess the news is out on the voltage
I have just ordered one of these and the seller has rectified the Voltage and Stereo issues on the units moving forward. Just not sure what RGB to Scart cable to use now off retro cable UK.
@@RetroCore thanks for replying! That's good to hear. I am seriously considering getting one, maybe the one with jamma interface/switcher. But, in the time since I last considered MVS, the prices are getting up there with AES. Feels weird buying a genuine MVS MB only to use a multi cart.......having my PC with NeoRagex hooked up to my tv, it's a dilemma.
Hi Mark, Thanks for the indepth review you made about the Aliexpress CBOX Neo Geo MVS last April and June. Mine just arrived! 2 questions What cables would you recommend I use to connect it to my line doubler, a Retro tink 2x? Where did you get the stereo mod instructions from? Thanks
I don't know what a Retro think 2x is I'm afraid. So I can't suggest a cable but I can recommend retrogamingcables they have a UK and US division. The UK division is the main one. The stereo mod I did myself but I did research on line to figure out which was the amp on the board. Ive been using kh CBOX regularly since I bought it and it's still going strong. I hope yours will too. You'll have a lot of fun with it. By the way I heard that the newer models have the stereo mod already done for you. How true that it I couldn't say though.
@@RetroCore Thanks Mark, I'll hunt a bit further for the cables. A Retro tink 2x is a cheap and simplier alternative to an OSSC. www.retrotink.com/#About
So Retro Core, where did you get your RGB SCART cable for this device?? I am sure many ppl are going to be curious to know where to get one that has the necessary components to make this thing work properly. I have a CBOX on the way myself and really want to make sure I have the proper cable! Please do tell us where you got it from and exactly what components it needs to have inside.
As for what's inside it I'll do a very quick update video later when I get home.
Retro Core - sweet, thanks for that! You probably don't need to do a whole new vid for that tho, you could just put it in the description text for this vid, or even just add it in a caption to this vid. Your call tho, I'll be happy having that info either way.
Retro Core I have a question for you! What is the button layout on your Saturn controller when using it on your CBOX? Mine was ABXY for about a week, then switched to ABCX while I was fiddling with bios. I’m not sure how to get it back to ABXY. Have you had this happen?
It's as flows A=NEO Geo A. B=Neo Geo B. X=Neo Geo C. Y=Neo Geo D. R=Neo Geo start or coin depending on if I'm using the AES or MVS setting. I'm not sure if it's even possible to change the button settings.
Instead of using batteries, use a super capacitor. I did a quick video on it. No need to ever replace a battery again. Holds highscore saves and settings for 3 months without power.
I think some of the people's issues are with the built in supergun/pcb's quality (not the actual MV-1C or MV-1B). But imo they do seem to be okay (aside from the not-legal copy of the unibios that they ship out, poor old Razoola). It would be wise to monitor the voltage outputs on ports and on board though; and like you say - use decent cables or mod where necessary. Are they as good as superguns or a CMVS from a custom shop like JNX or others? I don't think so. But it's certainly not as bad as people are making out. I do really like that you can use a Saturn pad too, but it's a shame you can't change the button layout (that I know at least). I'm hearing that people are having very long wait times from the Chinese sellers now though, seems they might have trouble keeping up with demand. Good on you for trying it out and glad it was a success. I take it they did the battery mods to the MVS PCB?
I'm not sure if the updated CBOXes that they are now putting out have the battery installed or not. It's an easy job or at least seems like it. I'll be doing a video mod on mine once I get time to do it. I'll also make a list of parts needed.
Very good video, thank you. Apparently they have done the stereo mod on the last revision of the CMVS, and replaced the Sega Saturn RGB port for an 8-pin output. I don't know how does affect in that OSSC-frying issue.
Mine doesn't actually have a Sega Saturn RGB port but a 8 pin one that's also used on the original Mega Drive. That's what I'm using in the video. I thought people were just mistaking when they said their consoles used Saturn RGB cables. My unit deffinety had no stereo on it though.
Hi mine arrived today, I’m using a Mayflash F500 arcade stick modded with sanwa buttons and a sanwa JLF arcade stick, using a Neo geo brook converter. I made sure the setting on my F500 is set to xinput. It seems to work perfectly. It came with uni bios 3.3 and stereo sound. So far very happy with build and quality. The s video looks great on my jvc crt broadcast monitor just like an arcade screen with natural scan lines. Also with the new firmware on the brook converter it uses the top four buttons as A B C D, the select button as start, and one of the smaller black buttons for coin up.
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your CBOX. It's also great to know yours has the stereo mod already preformed. I did use S-Video for a while and it did look great but since I'm from a RGB background I just had to switch to RGB for that extra detail. Still, the S-Video image is very good.
Wasn't the issue initially with these that they hadnt brought the ttl 5 volt csync voltage level down on the rgb out? The OSSC device doesn't like ttl level for csync and it can do damage (over time also). The solution is adding resistor (usually around a 470 ohm or a little lower if scart cable has some in also, I used a 390 on my diy cmvs) on that line to bring the voltage down on the csync to under a volt or so. Typically neo geo scart leads may have some resistors in but they wont be high enough rated on their own. The csync voltage has to be measured when all connected to the tv/terminated etc and under load though. It's not a fault of the CBOX as such, just the MVS boards they are based on put out ttl 5v csync. You have to do same thing if you DIY a CMVS also and are using it with devices that dont like 5v ttl voltage levels. Possible that the Framemeister handles them ok, but it was a OSSC that got blown wasn't it? Looks like they initially didnt do anything about it on the CBOX devices. Believe they may have addressed this in later versions?
Ah, I buy my RGB cables here in Japan from a guy on Yahoo Auctions. His cables are pretty top quality but you can buy great cables from the likes of retrogamingcablesuk
Silly question, but can the Cbox run AES cartridges, or is it just MVS carts? I'm looking into the JAMMA version of the Cbox and I want to make sure that I know what I can run.
Retro Core ok, no big deal. MVS carts are often cheaper, and a website called Southtown Homebrew makes mockup shockboxes. So I’m set on that front, lol.
I noticed that you were able to boot back into the multicart boot menu and select another game. What button sequence did you use, I’m currently having to press the power button to boot back to the multicart selection screen.
Ah, that's a very old TV now. I no longer use it. I moved it to the spare room but it still has a great image on it. Anyway, it was a Japanese only model - Toshiba Regza 37Z9500
for memorize options on mvs i dont know , on neo geo aes unibios works saving your configuration on memory card the model consolized from china i not see slot of memory card
The Arcade boards have ram on them which data gets saved on to. It's how the MVS games could save high scores and so on. You can't save game data such as continuing from your last stage however as that would require the memory card.
Retro Core: Would it be possible for you to do a video on upgrading the the BIOS on the CBOX MVS to UniBIOS v4?. Mine is currently on v3.3 and I was curious about upgrading it but rather than it being socketed it is the original chip with legs 1 and 2 lifted, now I understand the MVS 1C BIOS is originally soldered on but I was hoping when they consolized it they modified it so it would be a drop in replacement. Since I need a programmer anyway I was thinking about buying one and flashing my own chip when v4 becomes free and getting the NeoBIOSMasta or just buying the latest version chip, but would it be possible to flash the BIOS that's currently on it without removing it?
I would really love to upgrade my unit but because the chip is soldered on the board this mod is way beyond my skills. My advice would not be useful to anyone. Sorry.
Thanks for the reply anyway. I saw one way you can do it is take a pair of flush cutters and snip each of the legs off removing the chip, then run your soldering iron over the left over legs to remove them. From there you snap the NeoBIOSMasta into position and solder 2 wires, one to pin 10 and the other on pin 12 I think and socket in your new BIOS. I'm wanting to try it but I'm reluctant just in case I did mess it up, but I'm sure I can do it. JudgeSupreme from Jamma Nation X has a video of this exact motherboard and doing the install. If you're willing to give it a shot I'd recommend a cheap USB microscope which helped me fix traces on a botched Xeno chip install on my GameCube. If I can flash the chip without removing it I'd rather do that though.
With my soldering skills I'd totally kill the board. The pads on the board are too small for me. Someone with reasonable soldering skills and a steady hand should be able to do it though. It doesn't look too complicated from the JudgeSupreme guide.
@@RetroCore I thought I was terrible at soldering too, but ended up getting a Hakko soldering iron. So now instead of dreading having to solder I enjoy it, fine tips and flux help a lot too. I don't know what you use but those generic irons really dwindle your confidence and its really worth the investment for a good one. Hopefully you're able to upgrade you BIOS at some point.
@@RetroCore Quick question: I went ahead and finally purchased a NeoBiosMasta and UniBios 4.0 from Razoola, my plan is to just snip the legs from the old chip to remove it then remove the legs with the soldering iron (SupremeJudge has a tutorial). Do you think it's possible that the 3.3 Bios chip that came with the system could be tied with the controller ports on the deluxe CBOX or do you think the controller ports are solely working through the Jamma connector?
hi, i've been watching your reviews of the cbox And i ordered one also bought an ossc, now my question what RGB to SCART cable should i use or id you have a link for where to buy one, thanks in advance
This is a tough one for me to recommend because I use Japanese spec cables which are only for Japanese TVs. For the western scart style format I'd recommend cables from Retrogamingcablesuk. They sell quality cables. But first you need to see if your CBOX is using Saturn or Mega Drive din plugs for the RGB.
@@RetroCore hi mine just arrive do you know what kind of cable is this drive.google.com/file/d/1cKqQ4Ax4k6YDcdqhmJzqi_y0uoEIiYuC/view?usp=drivesdk thanks again
And we're glad you did Mark. Thanks to you, you not only proved valuable points, but you showed the critical sceptics and doubtful buyers on why this unit is certainly worth investing into one. Well done Mark. You truly are top notch. 8^) Hahaha. Yes, that kitty cat is really cute. I heard he's a swell feline as well. 8^) Anthony..
I hope this video impact on all the SNK MVS enthusiast community so the myth can be truly debunked Thank you very much for your time and dedication to the viewers!! 🤗
No worries. I got fed up of all the BS comments people would type. May of which have probably never even seen this console in action. So someone had to show that many of the complaints were not true.
one of the reason they don't put the battery is because many countries will refuse import of electronic if there's battery in them . , canada and us for example and will need to be shipped completely different.
That's true but normally onky valid for bigger batteries. I doubt the Chinese could care less anyway about shipping regulations. I've also shipped stuff with batteries to the US in the past with no issues. These were devices kind of like a 3DS or PSP.
Hi I am a new subscriber, I loved your video and I would like to ask for guidance if you don't mind. As a little background, I play samurai shodown 4 with my 3 closest friends on a cheap Pandora's box system I got. It was average I would say (no longer works), however I purchased the MVS cartridge and have buttons and joysticks, so I am building my own red arcade cabinet with Neo Geo MVS theme. I would certainly like it to be a 2 slot machine to put in my Amakusas revenge and also one of those multicarts. I have a 29" Sony Trinitron CRT and I would use regular arcade parts, What would you recommend as an easy clean solution that doesn't break the bank? I want cero input lag, stereo sound and something I can hook up to my CRT without much hassle
Thanks for subscribing, Johnny Ulate. Hmm, anything Arcade related is going to cost a lot. First you'll need a MVS motherboard. There are many revisions out there. Some are awful too. I'm no Neo Geo expert so best to check on a Neo Geo forum. To connect that to your Sony, you'll need a Super Gun. These are devices that allow you to connect Arcade boards to a regular consumer TV. Again, they come in many forms. Some good, some bad. I recommend the HASS model. It's one of the good ones out there. Again, I'm no expert despite owning a Sega Naomi and a few Arcade boards in the past. Best check on an arcade forum.
I’ll be trying out a component to hdmi converter at some point this week. I’m waiting on a hdmi scanline generator to see if it would work. Will also be testing a s video to hdmi. Will get back to you at some point to see if it is a viable option.
The svideo/ composite to hdmi converter arrived. Svideo to hdmi doesn’t display anything, however composite to hdmi works. The weird thing is that I need to have both composite and s videos plugged into the converter for composite to work. The converter I’m using is a cheap Excelvan to hdmi upscaler. Just waiting on the component converter.
That's odd needing both to be connected. Something you have to expect with cheap products I guess. I'll be interested in knowing how it works with the upscaler. The Framemeister hates the component signal. I use mine via RGB because of that.
Retro Core , I had a component to hdmi converter arrive. No joy, signal does not output via hdmi. However component works when directly connected to my Samsung lcd . In the end I got in touch with Mr Chen from time harvest who will be sending me a modded RGB scart lead with resistors to lower the voltage of the RGB out. He has assured me it will work with the OSSC and frameister
interested in maybe getting the 161 in 1 cartridge, but had a few questions first... 1. Does that cartridge contain the COMPLETE library of NEO GEO games? 2. Is the catridge EMULATION or NATIVE gameplay? 3. other than the unibios glitch, were there any other issues with the cartridge? 4. do they have a cartridge version for an AES system?
Hi, I'll answer your questions in order. 1. Nope. It has about 100 games on it plus a load of Chinese hacks. Mostly King of Fighters or Metal Slug hacks. 2. Native Gameplay. 3. My cartridge was fine however some people have stated that some games didn't work or had graphical glitches. I guess it depends on who makes the cartridge. As with anything illegal made in China quality control is not a priority. 4. I've never seen one. All the Neo Geo multi carts I've seen for sale are MVS only.
@@RetroCore thanks, bro. Your review has helped me out a lot. I'm not a big fan of purchasing things from China, but I think this one might be worth it. Unfortunately, they went up on the price though. It is now $286 after shipping.
@@RetroCore I know right. Quick question real quick... Do you by any chance got any NEO GEO joysticks and/or control pads you're willing to sell or trade? ... I'll be in need of them.
As someone that wants to buy one of these and hook it up to an LCD, do I need to buy something like a Framemeister or something like it to do so? I don't own any modern console, save for a Nintendo Switch that I play exclusively in handheld mode, but have wanted a Neo Geo since they first came out. Is there any way to just buy it, hook it up to an LCD TV and play games without needing to buy anything expensive to do so? Edit: Just a note, I do own several MVS carts I got cheap over the years because I thought one day MVS carts would be hard to get.
All these years later and it is still going strong.! I don't know if you saw the videos I did modding this for stereo sound and adding a battery. I beleive the later revisions had these mods already installed.
Are these CMVS's using original, authentic SNK MVS boards or are they newly created hardware clones? It seems like these came out of nowhere and now you can find tons of MVS 1 slot boards on Aliexpress for dirt cheap ($35 USD). Thanks.
@@RetroCore OK, good to know. Thanks. The prices have seemed to have gone up quite a lot on the CBOX setups. I'd need one with YUV (YPbPr) component since I have a Sony Wega with component in, as well as some HD displays. I'm not sure it would be worth the high prices now. I do have a working AES that I bought in 1990, but it's starting to have issues, probably with the cartridge port. No amount of cleaning or reflowing of solder seems to fix.
Hi Awesome video review! I am looking for one of these gems. BUT need a help. Now I can’t afford a framemeister or other expensive gear. Do you know if I could get a decent image using a cheap Chinese SCART - HDMI converter (I already have one here) and with port should I use? Thanks!!!
Those cheap Chinese items work but you really do get what you pay for. Some TVs have compatability issues and the image these boxes produce can be soft on cheaper TVs since the TV will be the device scaling the image. I'm not sure what you mean by what port though.
Not really. As long as you aren't using some nasty cheap cables any would be fine. RGB cables are probably the ones where you need to be careful though as they contain resistors. Retrogamingcablesuk is a good place for those. They also have a US branch if you're in the states.
No lag at all because it's a real MVS Neo Geo board. The only lag is via the TV since the output is also analogue. So that lag would depend upon the TV. Play it on a CRT and there will be 0 lag. Play it on a modern LCD and there will be lag introduced by the TV. On my TV the lag is only 17 milliseconds and that's in 4K!! In 1080p or 720p its about 13 milliseconds. Considering retro games run at 60fps (for the most part) that means there is next to no notable lag.
Whats up its me again. I have a very interesting question regarding the CMVS.... how friendly is it with 3RD PARTY CONTROLLERS? ...reason im asking is because i want to use the BROOK CONVERTR (PS3/4 to NEO GEO Adaptor)
All I can tell you is that my 3rd party Saturn pad works fine on this console. It's a Taiwanese pad that looks just like the Japanese white Saturn pad but with a TURBO R logo on it.
Thanks for this, I just needed to see somebody surviving RGB through the framemeister before pulling the trigger on an order. I don't know if it's the auto-white balance on your camera, or the unit's video conversion, but the whites (like the neo geo logo) are looking quite grey. Anyway, I just pulled the trigger on their most deluxe current supergun, since it seems to be a lot less hassle than my current unit.
I'm using mine via the Framemeister with no issues at all. As for the colour issue, that was down to odd settings with the camera. It looks good in person.
great video as always. i was just watching this channel called gamehead nes, and there was this dual arcade stick running android with 1760 games. the games aren’t anything special, but you can sideload apps on so you can use emulators or also use it to watch netflix or something. just thought i’d mention it if it sounds interesting
The weirdest thing happen, all of a sudden now my controllers have gone to a more neo geo pad layout and if I run the second player aero fighters 3 now works all of a sudden. Ever since I plugged the second controller all thos happen. My a,b,and c use to be the top row of the saturn pad now it different, but why? I like it better this way
No idea. Mine have always been NEO Geo CD pad style. Also my Aero Fighters 3 always work. I've never tried two players on the system yet. My Saturn pads are official Japanese Sega pads. I've used a transparent on and a white one on this system.
Retro Core mine too, the white and a dark gray one and all of a sudden the button layout just switched, front know why but I like this better. Maybe a firmware update:)
Finally got a Scart cable for mine and was using it the last two nights with the Saturn pad. The configuration was that of the NG CD using the A B X Y buttons but tonight for seemingly no reason it changed to A B C X. Been scouring the web all night trying to find a fix but no luck.
I'm sorry but I have one question, is the multicart playable? Is bbn it just the intro screen that glitches out and the game plays ok? It looks like in your first video everything works ok.
You did make sure to buy a rechargeable coin cell battery, right? :) I think it’s a very kewl looking system. I just think they could have installed that sync-resistor internally so it couldn’t harm your equipment. But yeah no big deal as long as you get the right cable. It would have been nice though if they had given then option to overclock the output to proper 60Hz as that would solve probably most compatibility issues people are going to have with this thing. Can’t imagine that most modern tvs like that 59.18Hz very much. It would also solve the stutter you are getting on your framemeister. Speaking off, I noticed that your scanlines are misaligned. There is a thick one right in the center of the screen. This is also caused by the 59.18Hz. But you can fix this on the FM by increasing the vertical size of the picture by 1. You should be able to find it in the menus easily. But I can take a look on my end if you want :)
Yep, I made sure to do my research when it came to getting g the right battery. I'll most likely do an install video of that. Ah, you noticed the odd scan line 😉 yeah, that's there due to the odd refresh but as you say it can be fixed on the Framemeister. I'll be making a profile for the Neo tonight and saving it to the Framemeister SD card.
Good Job Mark! My review is in the works, and already did some footage with the RGB and it looks WONDERFUL! Any other tips you would suggest? Id love to get Unibios 4.0 going.
If people are complaining about the Neo Geo box blowing your switch box just try and get one of those power bars I’m not sure if that’s actually the problem but all I know is that I have a power bar and everything works fine on that
Hi! try to set he V_SIZE on framemeister to 33 for perfect scanlines in 720p You've mentioned you'll change tha battery, will you use a rechargeable or standard battery? Don't forget to disable the charging circuitry on the board if using a non-reachargeable one, or it might discharge very fast.
Yep, way ahead of you with the V_Size option on the Framemeister. Those odd scan lines are now a thing of the past. I actually had the Framemeister set to the wrong profile when recording this video. For the battery I bought both a standard one and rechargeable one just to be safe.
I couldn't say as I live in in Japan and we use the 21pin RGB standard. The rest of the world uses Euro Scart. If you had to choose then make sure it has caps inside the actual end of the cable which connects to the TV as these will regulate the voltage.
If you use a Neo SD then you can save to SD card. If using the original cartridge you need to install a battery so that game data is saved. Not sure how much save data can be saved mind you as I only own 3 official MVS carts and a Neo SD. The system does save the high scores for my Neo MVS carts just fine.
Speaking of the Neo Geo, are you planning to do a review on the NeoGeo Mini when it comes out? (either the Japanese one, the International one or both).
Hmm, I have a feeling its going to be nothing more than a Raspberry Pie type device running an emulator. If I can get one for a good price I'll cover it for sure but I don't want to pay big Bucks for something I will never use.
This device looks great! I'm still waiting for one with hdmi out. Also the 161 in 1 bananacart is known for glitches. After a year mine only ran for 5 mins and then restarted, blues journey had only sound sometimes etc. It's a Chinese bootleg cart after all.
First of all thank you for this review. I would like to know if your CBOX is still working ? I am asking because I found a youtuber saying that after 4 months his CBOX is dead.
Nope, mine is still working just fine. I use multi carts, the Neo SD and official MVS carts on mine. No problems at all. I find it funny that his doesn't work when this thing is a real Japanese MVS with just some joystick and video out boards attached. Maybe the problem he has is with one of the attached boards? The MVS should be fine.
Yes, I'm interested in seeing what Microsoft are planning. I have a feeling they've been holding back the past year getting ready for some big announcements. Of course I'll be interested is seeing what else is going on too.
Retro Core I reckon MS have been keeping quiet about a lot of games too. They’ve acknowledged that they’ve dropped the ball on exclusives so I think this has to be the year they show they’re conclusively dealing with that problem. I’ll be watching the MS and Nintendo presentations but I’ll have to skip the Sony one as it’s on at 2am UK time!
If Microsoft don't have a monster load of exclusives it's going to be tough for them. It's a shame because the One X is a fantastic bit of kit. Miles ahead of the PS4 Pro.
Retro Core no need to worry. Close to 20 exclusives were announced earlier like gears pop (gears of war mixed with pop figures), forza horizon 4, being the only home console for pubg, new halo, gears 5, code vein, they purchased ninja theory, the forza team, the we happy few team, dlc for cuphead and sea of thieves, new IP tunic, battletoads and many others.
i was thinking of getting one like this off taobao... they've got one with an aluminium frame that looks pretty sweet... there's often a knee-jerk reaction people have when they know something is from china... what they probably don't realise is a lot of these higher end models are made in the same factories as the consoles they hold in such high esteem... the moral is don't pay too much attention to the unwashed masses. walk your own path and decide for yourself ;) great video by the way!
I agree. There is a lot of crap from China which I often point out in hardware review videos but on the other hand you can get hardware that's pretty good. Such as this MVS console and the GBA system I'll be reviewing on Wednesday.
they're temporarily sold out by the looks of it, hence the crazy price - the actual price is 1200RMB or so item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=567061481834&_u=t2dmg8j26111 They also have some custom made Famicoms with RGB out: item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.20141001.1.1a545a48F3BKJF&id=567267711099&scm=1007.12144.81309.42296_42296&pvid=b2c515f2-ef9d-44d4-a9db-7aea36e6e0d7&utparam=%7B%22x_hestia_source%22%3A%2242296%22%2C%22x_object_id%22%3A567267711099%2C%22x_object_type%22%3A%22item%22%7D&utparam=%7B%22x_hestia_source%22%3A%2242296%22%2C%22x_object_id%22%3A567267711099%2C%22x_object_type%22%3A%22item%22%7D FYI, you'll need a Taobao account
got mine a few weeks back and been playing it more than anything else mine didn't come with uni bios so have it sitting here with neobiosmaster ready to install.. :) also my one came with a SMALL RGB socket.. i got a standard rgb scart and it was to big... :( but using component and works great.. i love the neogeo.. amazing.. was so out of reach when i was a teenager.. :) loving every min of it... im using a saturn arcade stick... works a treat :) my one had a new a battery in it.. :) but i might replace it... just in case... every game i have tried on the 161 cart... worked.. fine.. not checked the sound i will do that today....
Sounds like you have one of the early systems. They used a Sega Saturn RGB din socket. That was changed to a Mega Drive / Neo GEO AES din socket in the later revisions. This may also explain why you never got the Uni Bios installed.
I trust a RetroCore analysis over pretty much everyone else!
dezm101 Yup definitely
Here's hoping you'll be able to get one in the future.
Hiya mark
Me and my brother have just purchased one each of eBay and I have to say that your recommendation was spot on even the build quality is beautifully brilliant, (definitely more a solid build than even a PS4) picture quality is second to none with no picture noise what so ever. By the way people! Component works flawlessly via an OSSC.
Mark you are a credit to UA-cam, you are a credit to the whole internet, keep up your excellent informative reports
Big salute to you sir ;)
Thank you very much Kevin. Enjoy your new Neo Geo experience with your brother 👍
Awesome vid dude very informative thanks
The problems all you guys are having with carts not being recognized is a result of NEVER cleaning the cart or mobo contacts.
AMENNNNN!!
TEACH THAT MFN SHYT BRO!
@@worsel555 no probs from MY cbox!
Game on!!
When I saw this video pop up in my subs feed, my heart sunk... my machine shipped this week. I’m glad it still holds up after a month!
Your machine should be fine. Just be sure to use quality RGB cables if you do decide to run it via RGB.
Bloggos Pow did you have to wait for unibios 4.0??? That is what is holding up mine from shipping?
So they are bootlegging the uni bios, as 4.0 is not free
Vasili appears that it is taking much longer then he thought offered to send my unit on Tuesday unless I'm willing to wait 2 more weeks. Not sure if worth the wait
I would never tell anyone how to spend there money. It is genuine mvs hardware so I cannot knock the hardware as it is a Neogeo , some of the bolt on's are questionable but I am in UK and use a crt so somthing like this is not designed for me if I am honest (we have rgb natively). I made my own about a decade ago now only cost me £40 and still going strong, this is essentially the same thing with some bits added on for Ntsc people and mono :P if your happy with what it offers make yourself happy fuck people like me
Subscribed! This is the first video I watched from RetroCore but it was super informative and answered some questions I had. Keep up the good work.
I'm happy to hear that. Welcome to the channel.
Nice video, I have one of these as well and I agree it is a great little console. Planning to do the Stereo and Battery mods soon
The Stereo mod is a must. The battery mod is also good to have but in my opinion Neo Geo games don't really need a battery unless you care about high scores.
Just got one and absolutely love it!!
Thanks for this video, I'm using component to hdmi and I'm happy with my results
Ah yes, that would work well.
Awesome video. Thanks for this.
A NeoSD MVS Complete Edition would be nice but they are really expensive.
LOVE IT
I'm glad I started with THAT console and got the heavy Load times out of the way!
The 4.0 Uni Bios sounds good.
Thanks. Finally someone who explain well all this stuff.
No problem. I'm sure there are many people wanting to know about the rumors surrounding this machine.
Thanks so much for the clarification. You convinced me to take the plunge and order one. I absolutely love it!
Glad to hear. It should bring you many hours of fun.
Thanks for another informative video ! Never been into fighting games that much so not a big fan of NeoGeo, but soon Ill have to finally got to know this system.
Yes, there's a lot to see on the Neo Geo that's not a 1 on 1 Fighters. I recommend checking out my Retro Core 5 Neo Geo video.
Ill be sure to watch it ! Thanks
Going to give the NiCd battery a try. Thanks for all of the info.
Yeah, I've had no trouble at all with mine. Just make sure you are using a good RGB cable.
The newer revision seems to come with stereo output out of the box (someone already posted pictures of this at the Neo-Geo.com forums)
That's good to know.
Can you link please. Ty
What RGB scart cable did you use? Any update if they fixed the stereo sound?
I use a Mega Drive 1 scart cable. I did here that the latest revisions did fix the stereo issue. I've not seen them myself though.
Maybe this Cbox I have has a higher voltage PSU board? Or they finally got around to fixing the multi carts?
@@RetroCore your milage may vary depending on what multicart you get. Quality is up and down on them (some in the same production batch) so some "Banana carts" will do it more than others.
How is the image quality of a C box when hook up to a CRT thru s-video, I just want to know if it's worth to mod a Sony Trinitron 32S22 that I have. I'm planning to build a cabinet with that
No idea because I don't own a CRT. I can tell you that RGB is excellent so I see no reason why svideo would be poor.
I absolutely love mine. The console I received had the stereo mod done. Don’t have a multi-cart, but all of my original games work great.
That's cool. Looks like they may have seen my video and that being the major complaint. Now if only they'd include the battery.
Watching your battery mod video right now. Thanks you for the step by step video. Will be doing this shortly.
MadlittlePixel is the YT who blew his OSSC :0!
Silly him. I guess he wasn't to know though.
he is an ignorant with money to buy stuff. this is a real review channel. thanks retro core!
I'm getting a 4 ft scart for the genesis 2, will that be enough to stop it from screwing up my ossc?
This needs a Mega Drive 1 cable, not a 2. The cable length isn't the issue though. You need to make sure your cable has resistors in it to regulate voltage. A good cable will have these.
hi guys, can this mvs works with "SNK NEO GEO CD Controller Pro Joy Stick" or brooks converter(Brook PS4/PS3 to NEO GEO Super Converter) connected madcatz (Mad Catz Arcade FightStick PRO)?
It will work with any joystick or pad that works on a standard NEO Geo. It can also use Sega Saturn pads and sticks
@@RetroCore can it use the new retro bit wired or wireless ones?
Already has universebios v4.0 for AES/MVS
I'm really curious, do you know of a fix for the overscan issue with a CRT TV?
I afraid I don't know that.
Nice video, Could you recommend a RGB cable or where we could purchase one from like the one your using.
Mine is actually a Mega Drive 1 RGB cable from A yahoo auctions seller. You can get good cablles from retrogamingcablesuk however.
Has the stereo situation been fixed with the newer models & do you know if this has issues with an OSSC & component?
Sorry, I dont know the answers to either of those questions.
What SCART cable are you using on this, Mark?
Yes, would like to know where he got his from as well and exactly what components it needs to have in it.
So they have RCA L+R outputs on the back of the Cbox but they haven't performed the stereo mod on the MVS MB?
That's right. I had to do it myself. Apparently the later cboxes had the stereo mode done.
@@julianwraight1274 ya I feel ya on that one. I cant decide. Im on the fence
Very good debunking job. Your channel is awesome.
Thanks man.
Hi Mark,
Thanks for the indepth review you made about the Aliexpress CBOX Neo Geo MVS last April and June. Mine just arrived!
2 questions
What cables would you recommend I use to connect it to my line doubler, a Retro tink 2x?

It's as flows
A=NEO Geo A. B=Neo Geo B. X=Neo Geo C. Y=Neo Geo D. R=Neo Geo start or coin depending on if I'm using the AES or MVS setting.
I'm not sure if it's even possible to change the button settings.
This happened to me tonight with the exact same button layouts. Been trying to find a fix all night but no luck.
Instead of using batteries, use a super capacitor. I did a quick video on it. No need to ever replace a battery again. Holds highscore saves and settings for 3 months without power.
did you check with OSSC if this works ?
no. I don't have a OSSC.
Hi. Can you tell me what Rgb scart cable you use with this? Also where to get it. Thanks!
Ah, I buy my RGB cables here in Japan from a guy on Yahoo Auctions. His cables are pretty top quality but you can buy great cables from the likes of retrogamingcablesuk
I forgot to mention its a Mega Drive 1 type cable.
Great thanks. I believe the Cbox I’m looking at has a 8 pin for the RGB. So I’ll need a Neo Geo cable I take it.
Silly question, but can the Cbox run AES cartridges, or is it just MVS carts?
I'm looking into the JAMMA version of the Cbox and I want to make sure that I know what I can run.
I'm afraid it's just MVS. I use the MVS version of the Neo SD on my system.
Retro Core ok, no big deal. MVS carts are often cheaper, and a website called Southtown Homebrew makes mockup shockboxes. So I’m set on that front, lol.
Fantastic! Very useful video. I still think that the Saturn controller is better than the Neo Geo CD one
I agree. Can't say I like the buttons or the microswitch D-pad that much on the Neo CD pad.
I noticed that you were able to boot back into the multicart boot menu and select another game. What button sequence did you use, I’m currently having to press the power button to boot back to the multicart selection screen.
Just hold the start button for about 5 seconds when in a game. That will reset the cartridge back to the game select menu.
Retro Core , thanks it works
May I ask you what's the the model of your Toshiba TV?
Ah, that's a very old TV now. I no longer use it. I moved it to the spare room but it still has a great image on it. Anyway, it was a Japanese only model - Toshiba Regza 37Z9500
@@RetroCore That Glossy screen finish really helps with deep blacks and contrast ratio. Really nice TV!
for memorize options on mvs i dont know , on neo geo aes unibios works saving your configuration on memory card the model consolized from china i not see slot of memory card
The Arcade boards have ram on them which data gets saved on to. It's how the MVS games could save high scores and so on. You can't save game data such as continuing from your last stage however as that would require the memory card.
+Retro Core yes mothebord have a batery for saving records and data , a qu3stion for you , on this model from china mothebord mvs have a batery ?
Does anyone know WHY Madlittlepixel's OSSC blew up though? Im asking as Im about to buy an OSSC and really wanna know what to lookout for.
>.
hi, i've been watching your reviews of the cbox And i ordered one also bought an ossc, now my question what RGB to SCART cable should i use or id you have a link for where to buy one, thanks in advance

Hahaha. Yes, that kitty cat is really cute. I heard he's a swell feline as well. 8^)
Anthony..
I hope this video impact on all the SNK MVS enthusiast community so the myth can be truly debunked
Thank you very much for your time and dedication to the viewers!! 🤗
@@RetroCore thanks!! I really appreciate
I’ll be trying out a component to hdmi converter at some point this week. I’m waiting on a hdmi scanline generator to see if it would work.
Will also be testing a s video to hdmi. Will get back to you at some point to see if it is a viable option.
I'll be interested in knowing if the component to HDMI works as this seems to be the socket that gives problems for some devices.
Retro Core I’ve tested on a modern Samsung tv lcd direct component works but will test on the upscalers and get back to you.
Bummer. I heard the price had changed after the popularity of this product when up.
@@RetroCore I know right. Quick question real quick... Do you by any chance got any NEO GEO joysticks and/or control pads you're willing to sell or trade? ... I'll be in need of them.
Does component video output displays on a CRT TV? or you don't have a CRT anymore?
It will work on any CRT that can accept component video. I tried it on a HD JVC CRT.
You can connect this machine direct to any TV. The Framemeister just helps with adding scanlines.
do you have a guide to add the battery?
Yeah, somewhere on my channel. I'm on the phone now so it's hard to find it. Take a look under the hardware playlist. Shod be in there somewhere.
I'm thinking of getting one of these. How is your Cbox doing? Still working fine?
All these years later and it is still going strong.! I don't know if you saw the videos I did modding this for stereo sound and adding a battery. I beleive the later revisions had these mods already installed.
Are these CMVS's using original, authentic SNK MVS boards or are they newly created hardware clones? It seems like these came out of nowhere and now you can find tons of MVS 1 slot boards on Aliexpress for dirt cheap ($35 USD). Thanks.
They use 100% original SNK MVS boards. Of course the video out and joystick in boards are custom but the actual main Neo Geo is the real deal.
I'm not sure what you mean by what port though.
bougt mine but the component doesnt work. im stuck with either composit or s video
The component probably does work but your TV doesn't like the signal. My TV can take the component signal just fine but the Framemeister can't.
@@RetroCore are there any recommended cables or brands you recommend using for the cmvs?
Not really. As long as you aren't using some nasty cheap cables any would be fine. RGB cables are probably the ones where you need to be careful though as they contain resistors. Retrogamingcablesuk is a good place for those. They also have a US branch if you're in the states.
Does it have some type of lag? Fighting games purists are really strict about the frames.
Are the same on a LCD and CRT Tv?
I wonder if its similar to the Dule stick Arcade system I reviewed a few months ago?
Does anyone know where I can get this?
It may be difficult to get one now. This video is over a year old. Try Aliexpress since that's where most came from.

No idea. Mine have always been NEO Geo CD pad style. Also my Aero Fighters 3 always work. I've never tried two players on the system yet. My Saturn pads are official Japanese Sega pads. I've used a transparent on and a white one on this system.

Very good video!!!! Thank you!!!!!
I'm sorry but I have one question, is the multicart playable? Is bbn it just the intro screen that glitches out and the game plays ok? It looks like in your first video everything works ok.
Sure, the games all work perfectly fine. Just the Neo Geo logo on the Bios Screen looks messed up.
You did make sure to buy a rechargeable coin cell battery, right? :)
I think it’s a very kewl looking system.

Hi! try to set he V_SIZE on framemeister to 33 for perfect scanlines in 720p
You've mentioned you'll change tha battery, will you use a rechargeable or standard battery? Don't forget to disable the charging circuitry on the board if using a non-reachargeable one, or it might discharge very fast.
Yep, way ahead of you with the V_Size option on the Framemeister. Those odd scan lines are now a thing of the past. I actually had the Framemeister set to the wrong profile when recording this video.
For the battery I bought both a standard one and rechargeable one just to be safe.
how is the quality of component video ? is it as good as RGB ?
I think the component is good but to me the colours seemed a little too vibrant. As if they were bleeding a little.
I see, thanks for your reply. So what sort of RGB cable you would suggest. I suggest got my CBOX today
I couldn't say as I live in in Japan and we use the 21pin RGB standard. The rest of the world uses Euro Scart. If you had to choose then make sure it has caps inside the actual end of the cable which connects to the TV as these will regulate the voltage.
thanks alot for your response :)
How do you save a season in Baseball stars or any other game that saves?
If you use a Neo SD then you can save to SD card. If using the original cartridge you need to install a battery so that game data is saved. Not sure how much save data can be saved mind you as I only own 3 official MVS carts and a Neo SD. The system does save the high scores for my Neo MVS carts just fine.
Haven't seen anyone try the neosd cart with this yet.
The Neo SD will work without any problems in this machine. As strijkie143 said, this is a real Neo Geo Arcade board, not a fake imitation.
So far my yellow cart is working fine. All games seem to be great. Fingers crossed it doesn't develop any strange faults.
Retro Core Yeah I hope it stays that way :) A great buy, gonna get a second one no matter what!
Pretty nice machine all round.
Planning on looking at any of the e3 conferences Mark?
Close to 20 exclusives were announced earlier like gears pop (gears of war mixed with pop figures), forza horizon 4, being the only home console for pubg, new halo, gears 5, code vein, they purchased ninja theory, the forza team, the we happy few team, dlc for cuphead and sea of thieves, new IP tunic, battletoads and many others.
i was thinking of getting one like this off taobao... they've got one with an aluminium frame that looks pretty sweet...
there's often a knee-jerk reaction people have when they know something is from china... what they probably don't realise is a lot of these higher end models are made in the same factories as the consoles they hold in such high esteem...
the moral is don't pay too much attention to the unwashed masses. walk your own path and decide for yourself ;)
great video by the way!
Gez Fry Or at least wait for an opinion from someone you respect, like Retro-Core. 😃
I agree. There is a lot of crap from China which I often point out in hardware review videos but on the other hand you can get hardware that's pretty good. Such as this MVS console and the GBA system I'll be reviewing on Wednesday.

got mine a few weeks back and been playing it more than anything else mine didn't come with uni bios so have it sitting here with neobiosmaster ready to install..
I was thinking about getting one of these but I'd rather do the mod project myself ( that's half the fun ).
For the regular person it should be blacklisted instantly, just because of needing to solder to make it stereo.
News just arrived that the new models now have the 4.0 universal bios and Stereo implemented. No need to mod this system for stereo any more.
@@RetroCore Really?
availability on aliexpress has hit an issue. There ain't any. Last week there were. This week no... no cbox, no timeharvest, nothing. I am sad.
Bummer, looks like these things became so popular that they sold out.
