This movie is one of my all-time favorites for several reasons: 1. Brad Pitt looked and acted like Achilles (as he was portrayed in the Iliad) 2. No out-of-place silly British accents ; Pitt used a heroic neutral voice (much like Butler's Leonidas) and it felt so damn right 3. Incredibly fluid and beautiful fight scenes; Pitt moved quickly and gracefully (at 40 years old no less). A profound depression ate me away when I first saw the ending, when Odysseus somberly reminisced the glory of his deceased friend Achilles, and that the world would NEVER see his like again. That moment turned me into a fanatic, as far as Greek mythology goes.
I went to theaters when this came out as a teenager. Totally cooeing over Orlando Bloom. But Brad Pitt totally blew me away with his portrayal of Achilles. By the end of the movie he had me balling my eyes out right in the theater. Brad Pitt reminded me that day how amazing of an actor he is. Oh and if y'all haven't seen it yet. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is another film worth watching. Brad Pitt totally stole the show in that movie too. Once again reminding people that he's still an amazing actor.
The greatest war film in history no doubt about it it's a legendary movie with a equally legendary score James Horner. R.I.P. gone too soon but never forgotten.
@@jimkemmink4882That would actually be great. Patroclus is the one thing Troy got very wrong and The Song of Achilles very right. Or at least way more right than Troy. Like, yeah, it doesn’t necessarily have to be romantic between those two, but the Iliad sure as hell leaves that possibility very open. When you get to Patroclus’ death in Miller’s book? You can FEEL Achilles’ soul shattering. And that’s coherent with how he reacts in the original. In the movie, it would have almost made more sense to kill off Briseis instead.
Everything about this movie was fantastic!! The aesthetics, the soundtracks, the costumes and actors....*sigh* Brad Pitt was absolutely gorgeous!! 😍❤✨💘
00:51 Esa parte siempre me pone la piel de gallina y me saca un lagrimón en la escena donde chocan las fuerzas en el contraataque troyano y la muerte de Patroclo.

I disagree. The Illiad is so weird and over the top sometimes that it's impossible to make a 100% accurate movie around it. For example, the Illiad says that Achilles' mother disguised him as a woman and hid him with lots of other women so that Odysseus wouldn't find him and take him to the Trojan war. Imagine if they did this accurately in the movie. Achilles would suddenly be less badass wouldn't he. Also, the Illiad says that when Hector and Achilles fought, Hector was so scared that he ran around the city walls and Achilles had to chase him for 10 loops or so before they finally fought. Imagine if the movie did this 🤣💀. There are lots of things like this in the Illiad that would be straight up weird if they got portrayed in a movie. I think Wolfgang Petersen did an amazing job with Troy and found a good middle ground between following the Illiad and preserving a coherent story.
The replacement score written by James Horner is good, but what was used of the original music written by Gabriel Yared in the superior Director's Cut of Troy is better.

At first, I hate what Pitt & Petersen made of Achilles. Then I read the Iliad and realized that it was a very good interpretation.

Yeah, it was only second to battle of the bulge.
The greatest war needs the greatest warrior.
A legend, still known in 2018... Most likely to be remembered untill the end of mankind... Achilles made himself a GOD.

I always play this theme when on my fifth 12" pizza
Patroclus is the key to all this.
Great music. I love brad pitt in his role as achilles he is just like i imagined him in the book heliad
This was disappointing as the time the theme was played in the movie was NOT the actual Achilles, but rather Patroclus in Achilles' armor.
Not really. This plays when he is landing on the beach and then attacking the temple or Apollo.
