- For the first time, the legendary drummer Dave Weckl was in Beirut for a drum clinic organized by Mozart Chahine and Yamaha Music Gulf.
The event took place at Music Hall on the 5th of November 2015.
During the clinic, Weckl provided a rare opportunity to experience his drumming technique up-close by performing and demonstrating many of his approaches to the drumset, and answered questions of the attendees
"Just Groove Me" is the third installment in Dave Weckl's "SinglesProject." The song features Oz Noy on guitars and Will Lee on bass.
Dave Weckl is still amazing after all these years I grew up on the incredible talents of Dave and I must say he has never been better....
His precision never stops to amaze me

A very valid argument can be made for a statement like: There HAS BEEN no greatest drummer that ever lived." There have been SEVERAL, but because their styles are different, you really can't make a completely fair evaluation. BUT, strictly from a technical standpoint, I think you CAN say that there's never been anyone BETTER than Weckl.
Let's just say Weckl is AMONG the greats. There are so many....he is one of them. :)

look at Dave's faces and concentration in that last barage of vicious odd time sigs when he starts going off .... (the man practices MORE than one time when it comes to his crazy shit and to me THAT is inspiring)
there's over 5 billion ppl on this planet and and Dave is one of the 3 best (all time / and active) drummers on it and if anyone disagrees .... that's ok it just means u have your volume turned all the way down on your ''gadgetries'' :)
He told me that he spent 5 years in the woodshed 12 hours a day, after he graduated from University of Bridgeport in CT. He played with my Dad in I in a Jazz trio before he started shedding. He was at 19, the best drummer I had ever played with..Nothing more to say but that he deserves the joy he and we get when playing or watching him. Go forth

Interesting how with this set up his snare is lower, but titled like the jazz set-up compared to his other setups where the snare is almost at chest level.

Dave's snare has such a nice bounce. I think I need to tighten mine up more. Weckle is badass.
With my experience, the snare sounds best when the top head is tuned so that its higher pitched than an 10" tom, but that's just me.
+Sdvc49 mine is about even with my 10"
+Frank Carpi I usually tune mine higher, and it sounds similar to his. It could also be the head (I use a coated ambassador).
+Sdvc49 I have a choice of heads, since I recently reheaded all my drums, I still have a Remo coated Ambassador with the reverse dot tone control, and I have a vented Evans head too. Right now the Evans are on, so I will try tuning it higher to see how that sounds. Thanks for the tip.
+Frank Carpi I do know that Dave Wekl uses all coated ambassadors on the batter side of all his drums. With my experience, heads with a reverse dot (or the Powerstroke series) naturally don't have that much bounce (I still like the reverse dot when it comes to playing metal though). The Diplomat has the best rebound, but those heads last for a very short time.
great tech playing Vinnie C has a more feel but this guys tech ability is very very good

I love Dave W. - BUT Dave is not a groovy player! You need a Chris Coleman for a good Groove.
Weckl is an unbelievable player, but his style is not Groovy. And that's fine.

Groove is not his best quality, but I think he can handle it. I mean, he is not a groove master but in some gigs you don't need master to make it fun and clean. If you wanna hear some crazy grooves just google "Cleverson Silva"

DW is one of my favorite drummers, not every drummer's style and perfection matches every type of music. Buddy Rich was great for Jazz, but would you choose him to play Rock, R&B, I don't think so.
Very technical drummer that does not feel the music...He never smiles or take chances on the kit because he is to busy concentrating on not making any mistakes...That is what technical drummers give you...His style of playing does not translate to play with the very great artist that Chambers, Vinnie, Gadd, Omar, Smith have played with!
The guys played with Paul Simon, Madonna, George Benson, Michel Camilo, Robert Plant and Anthony Jackson and he's toured with Mike Stern... He's known around the world for having incredible feel and chops... He has more feel in his pinky than most drummers will find in their whole career. He's at a clinic in this video where he's specifically there for people to watch him show off.
