I pumped diff petrol brands for my wifes car. Sometimes Shell RON 97, sometimes BHP 97, and since its a blind test, she would complain to me why do she needs to rev more to achieve the same kph or that her engine is rougher on Shell
Since then, only BHP and Caltex for her.
Shell focuses all their additives to V Power Racing to the extent that their 97 is like 95. and their 95 is one of the worst for pickup and the Bonuslink points are terribly slow to collect.
Petronas is worst, their pro drive is a complete marketing gimmick. Who would spent millions and hundred of millions to RnD on something that brings no benefits to them? They dont do charity for sure. and its euro 2 crap fuel.
If u want RON 95, Its only BHP *best mileage* or Caltex *best performance and rev*
Same for RON 97, as BHP is a euro 3 min and both get their fuel from singapore refineries.

@@DanielLimSantoso This, I agree. I discovered it accidentally during a trip on NSE. Halfway through the journey, I pulled my car off the highway into a Caltex station, feeding it with RON95. When I pulled onto the highway again, my God, the pedal felt so light and the acceleration was like coming from RON97! It wasn't an illusion. So from that day onward, only Caltex RON97 for the baby.

on a n55 engine, while the min ron rating is 95, when data logging , 98 ron gives a far better ignition timing. Almost 12 Degs uniformly across the cylinders. On Ron 95, discrepancies are larger across the cylinders and timing advance is 3-5 degrees less. That said, 0-100 timings are similar. I think for stock tune, 95 would work ok, but stage one tunes will benefit from 97-100 ron. Alot of the timing pull is at the lower revs, so try not to lug the engine.

I have been using RON100 since I got my 330e couple of years ago. It indeed does result in better performance hence longer mileage. However the caveat is, not all stations provide similar RON100 quality. This is questionable though; probably it's just me.
On some stations, when I pump RON100, it feels no different from a regular RON97 and the worst part is, sometimes it would trigger Drive Train error on my car back then and when I sent back to the service centers (a couple of times), the diagnosis resulted in faults with the fuel system. But further checking shows that the car's fuel system is working perfectly. So I'd have to drain the fuel and pump a new set of fuel then it would be fine again.
In fact recently when I got a new 530i, I told the SA not to pump any fuel in my car so I can fill it with RON100 on the first pump. So I got the car and went and run some errands before ending up at one of the stations that provide sub-par RON100 quality. I pumped went home, couple of days later I took the car out for a fun ride, engaged sports mode with sports transmission mode and accelerated. Within a few acceleration runs, the Drive Train error came out on a brand new 530i with about 60km mileage. Took it to service center and the diagnosis was the same.
On the flip side, this does not occur (so far, prayerfully) on my C43 even when I use the RON100 from the same station as above and the car has a chip tuning on it. Maybe Mercedes engine has a higher fault tolerance. But I do notice one thing, when I use RON100 petron from that station as mentioned above, my C43 seems to be in slightly slouch mode; not so eager to accelerate.

    • @jdfd4906
      @jdfd4906 5 років тому

Ron100 is good for 2.5L engine above especially on a long-distance drive..
When driving fast, I notice I use lesser fuel and maybe felt a tad more powerful compared to Ron97
As a result I stop less for fuel-station.But Of course you pay more for it.
So yeah if you have big displacement engine
and want to do a long distance drive Ron100 is ideal.
If budget is not your concern XD
But if you have small cc engine or just want to drive in town Ron95/97 is enough really.

It is still ron95 in octane rating.. which is not the best option for force induction engine.. always find the highest ocatane rating for force induction engine.. thats the reason why in US people prefer big NA engine instead of force induction, because is US the 91octane(ron95) is a premium gas, which is very expensive.. here our cheap fuel is already ron95.. in US or other country they still use ron91 and below..
