My dad just passed away with stage 4 lung, prostate and thyroid, as well as cancer in his liver, all of which caused it to have bone cancer as well. He was a member of the fire department for 40 years, after serving in the military. He's being brought through town today with full lights and sirens from his department and he wanted THIS song to be played during it. RIP dad
A great hug to your family and thanks to your father and to all the life saved during his service ,thanks to all the firefighters in the world ,God bless you all
God Bless, such a beautiful song . Robbie did all or most of the BANDS Music with a very large library Robbie passed in 2024 along with most of his band mates . RIP YOUR DAD WAS A HERO IN FIGHTING A WAR AND FIGHTING FIRES MAKES HIM A HERO AS WELL . GOD BLESS ALL OUR FIRST RESPONDERS AND OUR VETERANS. NEVER FORGET 😢 GOD BLESS ALL
goodDrummerman I've been doing this job going on 13 years and I grew up around the fire service it has its ups and downs I've told my chief I was done he and my sister told me told me we are a team we will fight this together that I'm not leaving
How beautiful and know I seen my brothers name on the wall this year in Ottawa for the remembering of all the firefighters who have served in the line of duty. A total amazing celebration and dedication to all of them!
I listened to this song a lot after losing two loved ones recently. It helped me a lot. Thank you for writing and recording this, Robbie Robertson. Rest in peace.
When I first saw this movie it really hit home. I grew up with my dad as a firefighter so I was at the station all the time. In middle school I started firefighting as well and served with my dad for a while. He finally retired and I continued (in another state) and loved it. Not every moment is fun. Some you can look back on and they're better than they were in the moment, while others you wish you could forget. I've always loved running into fires--hose line or not--to help others. Collapsing, burning, dangerous buildings. Didn't matter. I was willing to do something others weren't, so it's hard to turn down the opportunity. The thing with this movie was thinking about my dad risking his life for others he didn't know, as well as my experience doing the job with small kids at home. I don't want to leave them but to sacrifice one's life in the service of others is a worthy cause. In the Coast Guard we also have a saying: so others may live.
erin burkhart you appear to be a beautiful lady! God is with us and continue on with grace and love and you will be better for it always! God bless you!🙏🏻🌹
My dad was a firefighter he died 2 days ago. I miss him so much. He was all ways their through every thing.I all ways thought nothing like this could ever happen to him.My dad is my HERO!!!!! I'm 13 and im a daddy's girl.I am now in foster care and trying to get adopted by a very close councilor who as reminded me to stay strong in life no matter what life through at.I have this movie on dvd and when ever i think of him i put on this movie and just think of how great my dad was.
I remember my dad coming home from work bringing the DVD version of ladder 49. I watched the show with him and my brother and ever since then i realized how firefighters are the real heros in this cruel world. After watching that film i thought my dad would die aswell because he was also a firefighter. I was so fearful for him. I watched this show when i was 2 years old and now i just rewatched it and im 17 now. Whew. This film will forever be the best movie i ever watched. Period
What a master of emotion...”saw a shooting star like a diamond in the sky...must be someone’s soul...passing by...” Thank you for all the music Robbie. You’re now that “diamond in the sky...”
I start crying every time I hear this song. Ladder 49 had such a big impact on me the first time I saw it. It's one of the few movies I'll never forget.
I played that so g at my late husbands funeral k!because he wanted me to play it that was tough day for me God always take the good ones he was a fire fighter and EMT
I was a firefighter since I was the age of 16 started as a junior firefighter. I just retired when I was 39 to neck and back surgery. I miss the job and being there for the community.
A lot of people don't know what a firefighter truly goes through. Full bunker gear, air tank, hose, and still willing to walk through the gates of hell to rescue the ones who could not get out. Our military is over seas and our firefighters have the front lines here.
I was a volunteer firefighter for three and a half years and I know what it is like to be a full bunker gear running towards the gates of hell when everybody else is running away I protected life and property with honor commitment sacrifice courage dedication I answered the call 365 days a year 24/7 no matter if it was on standby medical run or a structure fire I went lights and sirens to help me hear the weakest shouts for help to help me shave the people from the whores of flames and according to my faith if I shall give my life to save somebody else let my family know I did not die a hero but I died doing what I love to do and that was being a firefighter or volunteer firefighter and to protect them while I am not there I will probably stand with my brothers and sisters and the fire department I wish I could post a picture of me standing in front of the tanker I drove but UA-cam does not allow that but if you go to my Facebook page and look underneath my photos you will see the photo Amen to all who serve past and present in the fire service
God bless you former firefighter I did many rescues bless are troop but firefighters are front line heroes myself and other will take no credit it's our jobs

Now I am following in his footsteps and I am a firefighter now. I love everything about it. When I hear this song it reminds me that he is watching over me and keeping me safe! I love you buddy! Rest in peace Wes!!
Matthew Hosler I'm almost 14 and it's my dream to be a firefighter. Do you have any advice or anything about training for the CPAT test and any suggestions on position I should. Sorry for asking but your a firefighter and I have always wanted to be one. You can reply to me at cousensm850@gmail.com
So true. Train your ass off. Also Keep your head up and do as your C/O tells you. You will have brothers and sisters depending on you. It's not just a job, it's a life style. You are going to have to work hard to gain that trust but when you get it, you are part of a family. That bond can never be broken
R.I.P. Chief Dennis Cauthen of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Dept. Lancaster County, SC. He suffered a LODD after clearing from a structure fire 8-16-2011. A husband, father, friend, leader, instructor...a true HERO!!! You are missed tonight brother and always will be. I know you are above us watching and protecting us as we continue to respond. My heart and prayers to the Cauthen family, friends and the members of Elgin VFD and Lancaster County Emergency Services.
Im a new firefighter. I grew up around the fire department seeing how my father and step mother were in the fire service/ EMS. In my first 6 1/2 months, ive seen more than a person my age should see. ive seen things from fatal MVA's, to Confirmations, to kids in cardiac arrest. One thing I can tell you is, this line of work is not for everyone. Cheers to all my Brothers and Sisters who choose to put on that helmet. "Don't wanna be a hero, just an everyday man. tryna do the job the very best he can"
my boyfriend cried at the end of this movie. out of the years ive known im ive NEVER seen himcry. he even admits that he rarely ever cries. thats the magic of this movie
this song has so much meaning! it reminds you about all the firefighters who have died in the line of duty and even though it makes you sad at the same time it gives you sort of this happy feeling knowing that they gave their lives to keep us safe! R.I.P your are all heros! :')
I was blessed to have worked on this movie.....I was born and raised in Baltimore... I have worked on many films and shows like the wire... I have to say this is the one I always look back on as a mild stone in my life.... If I could close my eyes and go back to that moment I would in a heart beat... best time of my life Bar None.....
I lost a good friend of mine to Covid in January of this year, Gary Cote. He was a firefighter for the Dayville Fire Department in Dayville,CT. Gary would always talk about the fire department when I saw him and said hi to me when I saw him. I think about him when I hear sirens or see the Dayville Fire Department at my apartment complex when someone needs help.
This song and Ladder 49 are Awsome! I myself am a volunteer firefighter/emt. There is nothing easy about being a firefighter...we do more than meets the eye. You may see us standing outside a house thats on fire and think we are lazy...But what you dont see is the guys inside the house doing a rescue/attack. This is one of the best jobs you could ever have...nothing beats being woke up by a tone at 3am All i have to say is thanks to all firefighters out there! Keep saving lives and property
I watched this movie and trust me, now as a firefighter, I can tell you, its not like in the movies lol. Real life, is a shitty job. With all due respect to my fellow brothers and sisters of course.
Amen I LIVE NEXT DOOR TO MINE .They asked me one day in the store why when I was walking down the street, why I STOP HOLD MY HAND OVER MY HEART AND SALUTE THEM WHEN THEY HAVE LIGHTS AND SIRENS ON? I say I say my heart is with you and I say a prayer that you make it back to the station
Death will never take away your memory of the hearts of those who loved and continue to love your beautiful music. Big, huge and unforgettable Robbie!!
Ladder 49 made me cry!! My dad is a fire fighter,so this movie really hit home and opened my eyes to what he really does when that siren rings! *GOD BLESS & WATCH OVER OUR FIRE FIGHTERS!*
im fifteen and a volunteer at a station close to me and i think its amazing to be part of the brotherhood, i think its an honor to wake up every morning that you could save a life today. As soon as im 18 i hope to join the FDNY, until then im going to keep taking in as much as i can so i can be the best i can be.
they should play this for the ones who lost their lives in the line of duty. as well as the fire fighters and police who lost their lives on 9/11. the ladder 49 movie made me cry through the ending :(
This song always make me think of my brother who died from a head injury in 2004. He was 3rd assistant chief in Wayland Fire department. He wanted to see this movie so bad. The funeral at the end of the movie was the same funeral that we did for my brother.
This can touch anyone's heart. I'm not one to admit it but it touches mine. My father is a fireman and every day he puts his life on the line for the safety of me and everyone else. I love him for that and I know if he does ever get killed... he will go doing what he loved his whole life.
RIP ROBBIE 🙏 THE BAND IS ONE AWAY FROM COMPLETELY BEING ALL BROTHERS ONCE AGAIN. LOVE THE SONG MARTIN MUST HAVE BEEN BEHIND IT 😢❤GOD BLESS SEEING AND WITH SOME LUCK HEARING YOU AS WELL. 😢❤
Good song. Sad sad movie. God bless all those who sacrifice their lives, just to save one. I pray for you all who have lost a loved one.. And all who are firefighters. I will be one, eventually. And for the 87 people who dislike this, You obviously don't know the meaning of this song.
We all know someone who puts their life on the line for a greater cause (my father being a firefighter himself) and we all need to take time to appreciate them for that. Them being a firefighter, police officer, lifeguard, or military personnel, doesnt matter, they are heroes, and for that sacrifice, I thank you. Thank you dad.
It's a cryin shame that we live in country were our real American heroes have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.......to all the men and women who risk their lives everytime they go on duty I salute you, thank everyone of you from the bottom of my heart for putting others first, your legacy will not be forgotton, it is forever etched in the heart of our nation!
I would like to say thank you to my hometown fire department, FDNY, through this song! So, thank you for everything you do and have done ever since our huge tragedy 11 years ago on 9/11.
my dad was a firefighter in Cottage Grove back in 2005.Now he lives his life as one of our heros. My dad's in the national guard and im so happy he's still alive.I feel for the people who have lost family to fire's and hope they feel better soon.
This song is dedicated to Richard Sheltra, a young North Carolina volunteer firefighter who lost his life on April 30, 2016. Richard got lost in a golf store called Edwin Golf that caught on fire after being struck by lightning. Richard was 20 almost 21 when he died. He would been 24 now if he was still alive. He graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in 2013. RIP Richard Sheltra.
tHe first time i heard the song, i hadnt seen this movie. but seeing it while listening, i couldnt help but cry. wow. my neighbors house caught on fire 2 weeks ago. her husband was working 3rd, it was just her and her little girl. she heard the alarm go off, and she ran to her daughters room, only to be stop ed by the rolling flames coming in from thecfront of her house. i dont know how, it dont think she does either, but somehow, she managed to get through it, grab her daughter, and get out, before it was gone. im baffled. they tore what was left of that house down 2 days ago, and it was obvious where most of the fire centered and destroyed. her daughters room. there was no floor, no roof, and eveything was left as either a singed metal skeleton, or ashes. im not even sure how she woke up. she had inhaled so much smoke. the fire captain, said the fire smouldered for 6 freaking hours. while they were asleep, before catching. she coughed and spit back shit for 2 hours. that little girl was in complete shock. i happened to wake up as the fire trucks flew in. all i could see through my whole house, was red flashing lights. i opened the door, and even though that house sits almost a football field away, i felt the heat. i took off running toward the house, praying the whole way. a fireman reached out and snatched me as i got to there yard, and pointed me to where they were standing. about 30 seconds later we hear tire squealing coming FAST. i swear it looked like that man started running before the car got stopped. her husband. he was so scared, it was all over his face. my point is....... We take for granted how lucky (blessed) we really are. in that moment, that little family felt it. i couldnt help but think about the firemen. had they not woke up, and got out, any one of those firemen, wouldvhave risked their lives, to save them. and meanwhile, there kids, and wives are at home knowing that this could happen at any minute. Firemen are not the only ones who sacrifice. their families do too.
Tara Lambert, thank you for sharing your story!! It does drive home how blessed we all are that all of these men and women would give their lives for each and every one of us, good or bad!!! May God richly bless every one of our service people, whether they may be our service military, firefighters, police men and women for their sacrifices, sometimes giving their all!!!
I love this song!!! Shine your light when you're gone and give me straight! I can listen this song all day long:). Im sorry for people who lost there firefighter... The people who are firefighter they are to good for this world!
It wasn't until i watched this movie and heard this song, that I found a deep respect for those who risk their lives to save the lives of others. I'm not normally soft at heart, but I cried at the end and tried to understand their dedication to what they do and I can't find it in me, but I'm glad they have it in them. HEY YOU CONTINUE DOING WHAT YOU DO. EVEN THOSE THAT ARE IGNORANT TO WHAT YOU DO THEY REALLY DO RESPECT YOU THE WAY I DO!!!!! I speak for everyone when i say WE LOVE YOU!
My dad just passed away with stage 4 lung, prostate and thyroid, as well as cancer in his liver, all of which caused it to have bone cancer as well.

I couldn't even imagine being a firefighter so young, thank you for your service man it really means so much
Like the fine men and women of America's Armed Forces. Firemen and all firefighters are the real heroes.

It's been 8 years today that my loving wife left me for a better place. I play this over and over. Helping me to be strong for our 5 children.
What a horrible loss. My heart goes out to you but especially your children.
When others are running firefighters are running back in. Some of the bravest men and women in the world
Elway Moran and the military too.

Ladder 49 movie is the saddest I legit cried rest in peace Jack😢
RIP JACK 😢
they should play this for the ones who lost their lives in the line of duty. as well as the fire fighters and police who lost their lives on 9/11. the ladder 49 movie made me cry through the ending :(
I think nobody's ever gotten through the ending of Ladder-49 without at least tearing up.
Since you mentioned 9/11.There is a deleted scene dealing with 9/11as it is happening.
l92375 right theres a few deleted scenes. You gotta have the disc though
Lost a lot of Brother Fire Fighters on that dreadful couldn't agree more this is the Perfect Song
This was played for my husband Joe { he was a 25 yr. fireman }..... But he had cancer and the Father above needed him to come home Oct , 15 , 2012 ..
May our fallen heros rest in peace.
This movie made me bawl as a teen.
Beautiful song but I love the "mhmm" part. Feeling that.
This song always make me think of my brother who died from a head injury in 2004. He was 3rd assistant chief in Wayland Fire department. He wanted to see this movie so bad. The funeral at the end of the movie was the same funeral that we did for my brother.
Dustin Fredericy I'm sorry for your lost
This can touch anyone's heart. I'm not one to admit it but it touches mine. My father is a fireman and every day he puts his life on the line for the safety of me and everyone else. I love him for that and I know if he does ever get killed... he will go doing what he loved his whole life.
amen .. me too
RIP ROBBIE 🙏 THE BAND IS ONE AWAY FROM COMPLETELY BEING ALL BROTHERS ONCE AGAIN. LOVE THE SONG MARTIN MUST HAVE BEEN BEHIND IT
😢❤GOD BLESS SEEING AND WITH SOME LUCK HEARING YOU AS WELL. 😢❤
Such an excellent song.
The movie made me cry. and I'm a guy who doesn't cry a lot, like never
I love this song, it has such a strong message
Yes indeed!
You become what you become.
Good song.
Sad sad movie.
God bless all those who sacrifice their lives,
just to save one.
I pray for you all who have lost a loved one..
And all who are firefighters.
I will be one, eventually.
And for the 87 people who dislike this,
You obviously don't know the meaning of this song.
Now we can play this song for him... loved this song and movie when it came out. R.I.P.
Robbie Robertson is always authentic in his music. A legendary artist.
I work for the fire Department. I love this song it gives me a sense of closer for all of the firefighters that have passed away
I still get choked up at the end especially when they carry the Coffin out to the Fire Truck
this is my favorite music video of all time a great song it’s like magic
How is it Firefighters run into a burning building when everyone else is running out?
Courage is the answer.
My dad is a cheff in real life like john was in the movie
Duty.
my dad was a firefighter in Cottage Grove back in 2005.Now he lives his life as one of our heros. My dad's in the national guard and im so happy he's still alive.I feel for the people who have lost family to fire's and hope they feel better soon.
Great song. Very powerful lyrics
Rest in peace, brother..may the Light shine upon you..
good song from a good movie. thanks for all the music, RIP Robbie Robertson
Very touching song!!!!!!!
diane tafoya It is indeed! :-)
I watched the video when I was younger. Now I am a priest. I'm often crying and I have trouble supporting God. At least I honor my mom. She died.
You now walk with a power that is much greater than all of your own. God The Most High and His Omnipresence.
tHe first time i heard the song, i hadnt seen this movie. but seeing it while listening, i couldnt help but cry. wow. my neighbors house caught on fire 2 weeks ago. her husband was working 3rd, it was just her and her little girl. she heard the alarm go off, and she ran to her daughters room, only to be stop
ed by the rolling flames coming in from thecfront of her house. i dont know how, it dont think she does either, but somehow, she managed to get through it, grab her daughter, and get out, before it was gone. im baffled. they tore what was left of that house down 2 days ago, and it was obvious where most of the fire centered and destroyed. her daughters room. there was no floor, no roof, and eveything was left as either a singed metal skeleton, or ashes. im not even sure how she woke up. she had inhaled so much smoke. the fire captain, said the fire smouldered for 6 freaking hours. while they were asleep, before catching. she coughed and spit back shit for 2 hours. that little girl was in complete shock. i happened to wake up as the fire trucks flew in. all i could see through my whole house, was red flashing lights. i opened the door, and even though that house sits almost a football field away, i felt the heat. i took off running toward the house, praying the whole way. a fireman reached out and snatched me as i got to there yard, and pointed me to where they were standing. about 30 seconds later we hear tire squealing coming FAST. i swear it looked like that man started running before the car got stopped. her husband. he was so scared, it was all over his face. my point is.......
Every time I listen to it, I feel like a better person. Thanks Robbie.
I Love ladder 49. It's my favorite
Amazing & touching lyrics.
Couldn't agree more! :-)
very few songs make me cry and this one does big time. RIP to all firefighters lost especially that day 9/11/01.

Such a beautiful song and so well sung!!! Makes me tear up when i hear it.
I must say.. This film will be close to my heart forever.
This song makes me cry because of the Boston firefighters who died in the fire #ripheros
Love this song. The movie was Amazing.
