- In this video essay, I will analyze the differences between the way the sisters in the Little Mermaid are portrayed in the animated film to how they are in the live-action movie, as well as give my opinions in which I thought did better and why.

I love how all 7 of 1989's can make a rainbow, which 2023 can't do. You can try it, but don't think that it will look as good.

I love the sisters from the original, their design is simple but so pretty plus they are developped in the prequel. Arista is my favorite! her red tail is magnificent, she is always cheerful and smiling; she likes music and can play an instrument. Me too, we got that in common that's cool! I love her personality and her hair is cute 🥰
The sisters in the remake have too much details. They aren't ugly but i don't really like their hair and their tails have so many things, it hurt my eyes a bit when i look at them.
I mean yeah Ariel’s sisters don’t really have much to do in the original but their song was still important. Not because of them as characters but because it set up so many things in relation to the story. Such as Sebastian having frustrations with Ariel, the fight with Triton, and establishing Ariel as a character before we even met her. Which makes us meeting her in the next scene very cool and meaningful as we already know a lot about her. And it also establishes Sebastian as a composer and how that skill will translate into helping Ariel.
By removing the song, you get rid of so many important details with the original script and the set up of Ariel’s relationship with her Dad and Sebastian as well as making the sisters badly designed and have no fucking personality. Regardless of what you can say about the lack of screentime they have in the original, they’re all incredibly bright, energetic, caring and loving to their sister in a way that feels organic.
In the remake none of that translates by removing the song and again, you ruin so many plot points by getting rid of it.

Disney didn´t even TRIED to make them look similar to their 1989 counterpart (or to make them look like sisters)

Tbh From design I like the new versions but from personality I prefer the old ones. I feel like the old ones are really simple, and live action ones feel too complicated and adultish...
They're the protector and ruler of seven seas ofcourse their design wouldn't be childish
I wish the sisters in the remake had more to do I loved their designs but I feel you could of cut them out and lost nothing, where as in the original they had a song and were developed in the third movie.
Also we’re some of them adopted, it would actually make sense in both versions (not that many women would want to be pregnant seven times). Where as if they were adopted not only would King Triton of lost his wife because of humans but possibly his adopted daughters lost their birth parents the same way (or by Ursula) which would explain his hatred for her and humans. Although would the daughter feel the way king Triton does? Like Ariel who lost her mother extremely young would her sisters remember their birth parents, would Triton tell them if they were killed by Ursula?

I hope other mermaid films take notes from the sisters' designs in the remake; they outshine Ariel, imo.
@Kingdomorange2; Your video has got me sparking a thought about: blending the the the personality dynamics between the two versions of Ariel and her Sisters; I think it would be interesting to blend the family dynamics of the two versions between each of them would affect what their relationship dynamics could be like. A wee bit of a stretch right now but; I though it might be kinda cool and so fun!🙃😊

I'm putting Aquata, Arista & Andrina on my top-tier list because of their different music taste. For example, Aquata's into rock & roll (Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Matchbox Twenty, The B-52's, Blink-182, 3 Doors Down, Paramore, Plain White T's, The Subways, Yellowcard, etc), Arista's into calypso/reggaeton (Harry Belafonte, Don Omar, Kat DeLuna, CNCO, J Balvin, The Andrew Sisters, etc) & Andrina's into pop (*NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, Westlife, One Direction, The Black Eyed Peas, The Pussycat Dolls, Sugababes, TLC, Atomic Kitten, Now United, Tomorrow x Together, Twice, T-ara, etc) as listed in three of their diaries.
At this point I am interested in Ariel's sister (live action) rather than Ariel & Eric (live action)

I thought Caspia was a sea related name? I know Caspian is but maybe the n changes it?
This is a small and dumb issue I recently realized I have with the original movie. They have this big, flashy minute and a half introduction for all 6 of Ariels sisters then woosh, gone. I know the whole movie is about Ariel herself but it'd be nice to know more about someone outside of name and relation to the main character.

Since King Triton's daughters in the 2023 live action movie are from different races, that shows that they all have different moms while King Triton and Ariel's mom would be half and half out of black and white.
Triton in the 2023 live action would have been widowed 7 times in a 20 year period due to sharks, swordfish, pirates and killer whales.
Triton would have several brothers and sisters plus his daughters would all be born 2 years apart.
In 2023 live action Little Mermaid, Ariel's 2 grandfathers would be both white and her 2 grandmothers would both be black.
Plus it's important to respect all races.
