  • This is a video Review, and ultimately step one of a project that I'm undergoing to have a series of guns I plan to keep forever. This one is in 9mm and has impressed me very much thus far. SINGLE magazine is not great. For almost 1000 USD, I expected a couple.
Keep on track as we've been on a journey to work on this gun with a few necessary upgrades and lifetime-level parts!

That looks very nice. Thanks for the video. A few years back I picked up a relatively new production Colt lightweight Commander in .45 and my sights were perfectly set from the factory also. And the trigger? Same slop situation like yours. Enjoy and I'll be continuing to watch as you modify it to meet your needs. Thanks again.

Great review, I own one in 45 and want one in 9mm now.

When I purchased my Colt Commander in 38 super in the 70’s the mags were all 9 round. (All 45’s were 7 back then) It’s much better to have 10 rounds that your certain will function than 11 that may not feed.

Have you ever shot a 1911 & used the thumb safety as a pseudo gas pedal for your right thumb? I recommend you try it if you haven't, much better control. Good videos though man, well cut & concisely presented.

I concur. The thumbs down grip you are using looks like you are a revolver shooter. Also, if your polymer is 100%, no need to ditch it. Just keep the best version of each style. I also recently got rid of extraneous tools in exchange for fewer, nicer items and I am happy with the direction I am heading.

Great review, I am on the fence for a combat commander just having a 9mm vs .45 issue in my own head. Has this thing been 100% reliable. I have the competition pistol in 5” in 9mm and gave zero problems with that configuration. How does the 4.25 ‘ system do with 9mm

Once broken in, it's been 99% reliable. Colt mag was no good.colt recoil ass'y is most reliable. Pistol is pretty loose, so reliability has been good. Mine's completely built now, though.

@@iamnitrox good stuff, I run mecgar mags in my colt competition pistol with 100% reliability. Thanks for sharing and answering the questions. You’ve helped me determine my next purchase will be this Colt combat commander. Thanks again.

Get some 10 round wilson combat etm mags if you can. I would get a bullet proof extractor and thumb safety. Get some grip tape for the front strap.

I'm thinking of getting a BP extractor and tuning it. I get some FTFs here and there

Mags are a moot point in a 1911 9mm that does not use a ramped barrel. Basically everyone EXCEPT colt uses ramped barrels for 9mm due to feeding issues.
