The Traxxas T and E-Maxx are two 1/10th scale monster trucks that forever changed the radio control landscape. Launched in the late 1990's these two models were a game changer in the RC landscape and will forever be remembered for their performance and fun factor.

What a good review! A trip back to memory lane where your average hobby shop had a stack of Traxxas trucks on the floor and a another wall full of parts to go with it! Please do more of these! Your viewers like myself enjoy the little trucks and the big ones.
Great Video! Never expected this from this channel. The T-maxx definitely started the monster truck wars! As a older guy who got back in to the hobby years ago, today's electronics and battery technology have driven rc's to a new level!
Now we need Tumbleweed approved RC offroaders rating!

Of the 100s of rc cars I’ve had since 1978 the original E-Maxx is in my top 5.
Love these first generation trucks from Traxxas. I bought an E-Maxx new in 2000 and I still have it. Trashed about four bodies over the years and replaced a lot of shock towers and batteries, but the rest of the truck is still running strong! I just bought another F-150 body for it and a set of new batteries. Still brings a smile to my face every time I dig it out for a run!
I owned the 2.5R Tmax and the Emax back when bran new and when you said Tmax cam out in 99 I suddenly felt very very old......... still have them both and also built a fully aluminum Tmax after all these years I got back into RC and just ordered the X-max,, cant wait.
I had me an emaxx when I was a lad in the early 2000s… my god it was just the ducks nuts!!… with a little disposable income I thought I’d get back into the hobby a year back and bought a Maxx and a drag slash, I just can’t believe how far these cars have come!!
Just got my old e maxx up and running. I filled the shocks with a 50/50 mixture or 5w30 full sunthetic and lucas oil additive. It takes bumps beautifully

Ah the memories of my time in the hobby several years ago. I never had any of the Maxx's but I had numerous Tamiya builds including the Juggernaut 2 which eventually led me to the crawler scene and then ultimately the scale scene. Even ran one of the foremost sites on the scale scene of R/C; Scale4x4RC. I still have a few lying around but I just don't have the desire any more. But this was a fun trip down memory lane.

I have both the Blackfoot and Emaxx. Although both are later versions! . Out of my 25+ RCs these two are still my fave got toos!
I always loved my HPI Savage XL, but nothing beats the ease of use and run times of the gas powered HPI Baja's. Basically like using a lawnmower. Super easy starts. And as long as you have fuel, and carry an extra receiver battery or two, you can run as long as you want. You guys should pick up a used one. With a couple minor upgrades they can be very reliable and would be very fun in the wide open spaces on tumbleweed ranch!
boo.. baja sucks.. 2wd.. they are sweet looking tho no doubt. but my losi 5ive run laps around it
I'm a huge fan of the HPI nitro RS4s of this era. Belt drive awd nitro 1/10 touring cars are still one of my favorite hobbies.
I had an S-Maxx, the nitro 2wd "stadium truck" version. Good stuff Tommy!
I have the s-maxx too. I still run mine to this day. I hope tfl talk about the s-maxx in there videos.
@@zzsuprazz theres nothing to talk about with the smaxx.. its a tmaxx with a missing front diff.. their bodies are cool and unique tho. i just sold 2 of them for 175.

Agreed, I recently picked up a E-Revo 2.0 and while I can still find most parts I feel like the parts market for them is going to dissolve..
I think you spelled Horizon Hobby wrong, they’re the ones that buy up every company and then water them down, anyone remember the Axial Exo Terra, Yeti or AX10…or anything from Vaterra? I just sold my Twin Hammers because I couldn’t really even find parts for them anymore. No one seems to understand that anymore. They just want to join the Traxxas hate bandwagon without realizing Horizon is part of the problem too. And the majority of people in the hobby wouldn’t be in it if we had to either build kits for hours before we could even start driving or had to buy someone else’s clapped out junk. Traxxas started RTR and is the main reason many of us are into RC. And before I start getting all the crying about how crappy they are because they break maybe people need to realize when you send it 30’ in the air at a skate park and don’t land on your wheels something is bound to break, that’s why they sell parts for them! I’m not trying to bash Horizon here either, I’ve bought a Hammer Rey and Mini LMT this year but people need to start being much more inclusive and get people to actually want to drive RC instead of telling them their rc they just bought and are so excited about isn’t a pile of crap because they had their own bad experience because they suck at driving! The point of any hobby is to enjoy it how you want and find new friends through it! If you don’t like a given brand that’s fine but it’s no different than a Ford guy telling someone Chevy sucks because of this or that! Have fun driving your RC’s instead of this petty stuff!

Oh wow. I didn't know this channel reviewed RC's. I thought TFL just showcased the real trucks. Yes, I have two Traxxas E-Maxxes. All upgraded. A single speed 3905 converted to brushless, and the 3906 two speed shown here....also converted to a sensored brushless system programmed to crawl smoothly at slow speeds. It has a higher stance suspension, along with Traxxas' Summit tires. Many upgrades. The 2 speed is like new for now, and am in the process of putting lights in a Proline 73' Bronco body for it.
These trucks paved the way for the powerful more durable MT's today. They deserve the respect. Glad to catch this video.

i love my t maxx still run it all the time and am in the middle of my third engine rebuild great truck with tons of parts on the market stil
I know after almost a year Tommy will never see this, but it will be nice to see him Review and have fun with some RC products. Especially I saw him with Axial Honcho in latest Defender off road video. We can tell he is some what into it. Have seen him in few videos with RC stuff. once a month passion project won't be bad. Come on Tommmmmyyyyyy!!!

I had one emaxx when i was younger, still have it in pieces in a box, bought a Tmaxx 3.3 when they came out, just bought an almost brand new 3906 first gen emaxx all stock and functionning for 190$cad which is like 120$usd, i'm so stocked, brings a lot of memories !
Got 2 tmaxx cars in my basement. Ones a parts truck for the other, had the engine running 2 years ago. I made sure to clean and store it properly so im sure she'll run again someday. But the rc receiver i have for it was fully submerged when my basement flooded. Thats why i havent run it again

I have a traxxas s-maxx 2.5R rc truck. It is the same as the traxxas t-maxx except for the s-maxx is 2wd. I think they came out around the same time. The are lots of fun. I still get mine out and run it.

I never owned any of the Maxx series, but several of the newer version, the Revo. Still my favorite fast RC trucks.
I was one of the first to get an emaxx from the Lhs, yes a real store! I still remember when I got it to the car and started opening the box. Prior to this I had bought a stampede. Loved that truck, the forums, the mods. Sadly I traded it for a tc3 and started racing with friends. Couple years on I got the itch for another, little wider, better esc, I was hooked again. Still have that one. Along with a tmaxx, txt1 shelf queen, and countless others now. I’d say I was hooked. Sadly I don’t drive them much at all but still don’t want to get rid of them.

These RC's are a little before my time but it's interesting to learn more of the history of the hobby. Also how much I take for granted with lipo batteries 😅.
I have a 1st gen E-Maxx, the motors both burnt out a couple years ago. I ended up buying a Castle esc/motor and a few other things and I still need to build it. Just havent had the will to do it yet.
I wanted to see the TFL pup do the Tombstone Piledriver to the truck. I just watched 8 minutes of Tommy play with his toy truck and now I wish I still had one. Maybe the kids still have one in the basement, time to clean the basement.

I had purchased the T-Maxx on pre order basically and owned it for 3 years. It was the best RC car basher I had ever owned. I sold it then a couple years later purchased a used E-Maxx for an electric crawler. After owning a T-Maxx I thought the E-Maxx was the worst handling truck ever. Jumping an E-Maxx and a T-Maxx are two entirely different animals. The handling on the nitro was so much more graceful and forgiving. The nitro version was like 4lbs lighter. I could blast the thing wide open across any rough surface and it would manage it like a Rolls Royce. Where the E-Maxx would exaggerate every little dip and roller like a skateboard. It flipped over frequently and wasn't as fun to own and I sold it in about 3 months.

I have an E-Emaxx. I call it the Cursed E-Maxx because it breaks every time I run it. Not even bashing it. Just running on flat, freshly cut grass.

Never owned any Traxxas products as I was in the HPI camp. I must say my electric MRC MT-10m stadium truck was my favorite though!

I have a blue version of this truck. Bought it in 2001/2002 I think. Shape similar to this one. I should give it a spin sometime I guess. Definitely very fun to drive!

I have original, widemaxx, and the brushless emaxx's they mainly collect dust. They are great if your not into bashing and high power ( the diffs/axles will not last long under6s power). Keep it at 4s lipo shim the diffs upgrade the axles its a solid 40 mph truck. This video is gonna make me get my emaxx out of closet and take a break from my ARRMA/TEKNO rigs. awesome video
Ah yes, the E-Maxx. Thanks for the memories. Put a couple drill motors in it, CVD's and modify the battery trays to hold 7 cell hump packs. Stupid fun! Long before brushless motors and lipo batteries.
Man i had an E Max and slowly upgraded to all billet minus the frame and it was damn near indestructible…..till i put brushless motor in it from a helicopter….cartwheels for days!!! and a ton of man giggles. I regret selling it for a Revo.

*_People's expectations were WAY LOWER back in those days. Also this truck is why RC world is as strong as it is today. They were easy off the shelf fun and impressed because nothing else came close even the HPI series was kinda lame._*

My first nitro was the TMax back in 2000, It broke with in the first 5mins if running it.. lol
😂I was just thinking, Drive it full force off the Stairs! 😂😂😂 or the BMX course opposite side. - I was in the 7th grade in '87 & had these. Though only allowed to listen to (devil)👹secular 🎼around my Dad. 😂

Traxxas gets a lot of love and hate in the hobby all of it well deserved. It’s cool they brought Hobby Grade RC’s to the masses via RTR’s (anything to grow the hobby is good right) here’s the thing I remember having a bunch of these trucks in for repairs/modifications (mostly the Nitro variants) something that really didn’t happen to often before at the hobby shop I worked at. I blame the rise of RTR’s for that. one thing that happens when you build a kit assuming you built it properly is because you built it yourself you should understand how to fix it yourself and if you did something wrong or had issues that’s where the local hobby shop came in. With a RTR most times you don’t even get assembly instructions so when something inevitably breaks now what, odds are you find someone who can or toss it and get another.
HPI (who is currently on life support but making a comeback) was the other big RC company that sold a lot of Nitro and electric RTR’s back in the day
RTR took the hobby in a direction I didn't like, or maybe I just lost interest when a buggy with monster truck sized tires became the new monster truck. I miss my original Black Foot - diff reliability issues and all. By the time all competitors in the monster truck world started looking alike I was out, so to speak.
I was just handed one of these in a box to fix for my uncle's mate . I googled why they discontinued learnt they like to spontaneously combust 😵💫

Are you guys feeling out the potential for TFL RC? I didn't have any of these monsters, but I did have several RCs I got from Radio Shack.
I had a Rustler when I was a kid. The Nitro powered models were a lot more fun imo. I had a nitro car but I can't remember what it was called. Supposedly 70+mph top speed but I always crashed it a lot slower than that and then had to buy parts and wait for them to come in.

The problem with modern "monster trucks" is the little ass tires.
Christ I feel old... I remember when the T-MAXX came out. I also remember the E-MAXX release too. Always wanted one but my mother wouldn't get me one for Christmas haha. Oh well she wouldn't get me a 4 wheeler either so I built a wooden street legal electric trike later in life... Much later lol
