The fans know all #homefree songs by heart. They perform all year long, so they've got it down to a T. For more of Rob in his powerful lower range, see "Two Country Singers Try to Sing Opera," with Rob and Austin Brown, on Austin's channel.

Home Free is so talented and have been singing together a long time. They are known for their tight harmonies. Home Free originally did this shanty during the pandemic and it became so popular that kids danced to it on TikTok. It also attracted Ubisoft the game maker to them. They asked HF to write a new shanty for their new game Skull and Bones and they did. Chance in the red knit cap wrote Skull and Bones and there’s a video for it. Tim (the bass in the black leather jacket with yellow shirt) sings super low on it. If you watch a short live video for the Ubisoft crowd you’ll hear Tim go really low or listen to the Skull and Bones video. Also Brothers in Arms, Down to the HonkyTonk, I Can’t Outrun You for lots of bass.

The studio version of this medley has 39 million views on UA-cam. There's an extended version on Home Free's Sounds of Lockdown album which is available on most if not all streaming services. It's the most listened to track on the album, at least on Amazon Music. It's wildly popular. Folks at Home Free concerts know all the words because of Home Free. I'm enjoying your reactions by the way. I'll sub. 🙂

You need to check out Skull and Bones. The software company contacted Home Free after hearing their Sea Shanty, to write a song for their pirate song. Adam Chance (the first singer, baritone) wrote the song and HF recorded it. There are 3 versions, the latest one is a short movie and the best IMO.

Nope the fans don't just automatically know sea shanties right off the bat. But it's Home Free and they just have this way about them to foster interest instinctively. And here is the thing, A few years back, during COVID, their TikTok sea shanty video went viral, so it became more mainstream. Now it's a fan favorite. To answer more questions, Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, is doing what they call live looping, does the different beats and layers them in the live shows now. It's always all his voice and it's always live, but he just builds it. Hard to explain, but point is, he is so talented. Thank you for reacting to them live.

Great reaction! New 🇨🇦 Sub, here for more #HomeFree! Their catalogue is deep and varied and each new song of theirs quickly becomes a new favourite. They are super-talented, goofy guys that can make you laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. Classics, ballads, country, pop, patriotic, blues, etc. Home Free has got you covered and they never disappoint!
Having seen them twice it’s hard to describe how good they are in-person but it’s well worth it. Would recommend you get to a concert this year!
So many great songs to choose from but a few suggestions of my favourite upgrades:
    One Man Band
    Castle on the Hill
    I Can’t Outrun You
    Stand By Me
    Take Me Home Country Roads
    Colder Weather
    Originals:
Dreamer, Live at the Ryman feat. Texas Hill
Catch Me If You Can *
    Dive Bar Saints *
    Leave This Town *
*Theres a thread from one video to the next.
    Understand
    Road Sweet Road
Might As Well Be Me (pause for their “bios” and written answers it adds to the hilarity!)
Love Me Like That - nicest break-up song ever
    Land of the Free
    Snow Globe

They know the words because they follow the guys and probably watched their Sea Shanty Medley video many times, but the first song The Wellerman is a well-known Sea Shanty because it went viral on TikTok a couple of years ago and then Home Free made a video of sea shanties and now have 39 million views on it. The Home Free version of the first song went viral as people on TikTok were dancing a certain dance to the beginning of their version of it from all over the world, which led to Ubisoft asking Home Free to write a song for their upcoming pirate game Skull and Bones they were going to release, which they did and it has been released now.

the actual studio recording/video has been around for awhile.....this recording was done after the song was well established, which is why everyone knows the words, as well as the "Wellerman" which was the first song went viral on TicTok, both the original version and theirs. The game makers UBISOFT heard this, and commissioned HF to write an original Sea Shanty for their upcoming game of the same name..."Skull and Bones". There are 3 videos of that now, including the original recording with a lyric video (game footage), then a live version at an Ubisoft event, and then an official video from them just released. As you have read below, that electronics is a looper so he can layer his beatboxing...but the sounds are still his voice including the nomonica and the castanets at the end of this medley.

Being at a Home Free concert is one of the VERY best things that can ever happen to anyone.
Now you can see why we Home Fries keep telling reactors that Home Free does NOT need "autotune."
Probably at least 90% of the people who have gone to that concert would be considered Home Fries. That means that they have probably sung along with this medley 50-100 times (at least).
The note that you were hearing that Tim was holding underneath everything (hearing from your recording, at least) was D#1. Tim's lowest note on the range chart that I created years ago on my own site (updated to 2020) is A0. D#1 is a snap for him. Adam Rupp (the beatboxer) can sing (or make beatboxing sounds) down to B0. They are the only two in the group who can go that low (and Adam Rupp can also go upwards a few notes higher than Austin). I can sing the D#1 that Tim was singing, and though I lost a HUGE amount of my range due to rheumatoid arthritis for many years, both of my hip joints were replaced in 2017, so that I can now sit and stand upright again, I have MOST of my just-over 6-octave range back again, and can hit (but not sustain) Austin's top note of D6.
Adam Rupp generally uses the looping system to keep things going in the background, when any or all of them are adding other things to the mix. That way, they are still ONLY using their voices, and not adding instrumentation. They just create that with their voices, and the system keeps it all going, so that the layers become REALLY awesome.
Often, when you hear little screams from some of the different seats, it means that whatever note either Tim or Adam Rupp were hitting (and for a bit there, both of them were going down to at least that D#1), was literally shaking the seats the people were sitting on. It's really amazing. My youngest daughter and I took her next-to-oldest boy to a concert a few years back, and when one of those bass waves came along and literally shook the bleachers on which we were sitting, Harry's eyes flew open WIDE, and he almost screamed, turning to his mom and saying out loud, "How does he DO that???!!!" I'm sure he wasn't the only one there that experienced that for the first time. 😀
Right there at the end, I think Tim did hit his lowest note, because I could barely reach it. I don't have a keyboard here, near my computer, in order to compare. I have to go to my favorite digital one on a separate screen, and didn't check that last note out. Out in our regular computer room, that same grandson (who has turned 16 and now sings bass, himself...though I can still outdo him...grin) has his keyboard right by his dad's computer, so he just gets up and finds the right note. We are 12 people in this family, and we all sing, and most of us play more than one instrument. It makes for really fun times when it comes to singing Happy Birthday to the next person in line.
Thank you for the really fun reaction. 😀

Sadly, I have seen analysis of one of their studio releases that suggests that it is autotuned. I don't want to believe it, but it is hard to deny when compared with a live version of the same song. I think they sound better on the live version! Oh well, I love them anyhow and have my tickets to a concert next month!

    • @setonhillstudios

Absolutely NO DRUM PADS or electronic sounds!! It's ALL Adam Rupp...PERIOD.
The only piece of equipment he uses, other than a microphone, is a dual looper station. As good as Adam is, even *he* can't make 4 or 5 sounds at once! Lol
He shows how it works during the concert and puts repetitive beats in so he can do more special effects in real time during the song. 👍 Believe it or not, Adam used to do this song medley live before he started using a looper a few years ago! 😳🤯 Adam is a total BEAST!!

    • @setonhillstudios
      @setonhillstudios  8 місяців тому +1

  • @lisaseverance6785
    @lisaseverance6785 8 місяців тому +1

Adam (the beatboxer) uses special pads/mics to pick up percussion with either his hands or feet. And he uses a live looper for some of the percussion. They also use it for some layering background vocals that the guys just cannot do if they are singing within the song. Like the twangy jaw harp sound in "Man of Constant Sorrow"? Well it hurts Chance's voice if he tried to do it throughout the song. Plus he does background vocals in that song so the looper helps. They explain it at the concerts. Once the song is done, it gets erased to use over again. There was a concert where Adam was recording a beat during his drum solo section and someone yelled....the yell got in the recording for the looper so he had to redo it. LOL

Hello, Home Fry here and new subscriber. Home Free is my favorite group by far! Besides being fabulous musicians and singers, they are just down to earth and caring people. They have videos that will make you cry and videos that will make you laugh till you cry. They have many original songs as well (Playing With Fire, Catch Me If You Can and Understand to name a few). They also have some songs that are 5 part harmonies (Adam the beatboxer is also a tenor) like Helplessly Hoping that is stunning. I just love these boys! ❤ Thank you for your reactions. #HomeFree

Isn't it amazing? A few thousand people singing sea shanties along with an acapella group. They did a great job with this one ( I only knew one of the songs before discovering Home Free ) They are entertainers for sure. , Adam's newer Drum Solo videos show his demonstrations of how he records his sounds and his and the group's vocals and how he layers them and the end of the videos are just him. It feels like you're at a rave, he's so good. Thanks for the Home Free reactions

@@setonhillstudios They have a definite sense of humor that you will find in many of their videos. And on occasion, it seeps out on stage. Usually off the cuff stuff like comments about something funny that happened. Usually if there is something wrong or they just can't help themselves and have to tell about it. They used to do actual music skits in their shows but they phased them out a few years ago. One of the best is "What we are thinking when we're singing" or "Guilty Pleasures" I miss those skits!

Shout out to Kristin Denehy who has been choreographing Home Free's movements on stage for over a decade. It's a wonder her hair isn't grey yet, working with this wonderful goofballs. Several a cappella groups have been doing a lot of sea shanties for several years now. VoicePlay has a few: Wellerman, Drunken Sailor, and Hoist the Colours are the one that come to mind. And their new one, Sleeping in the Cold, from the video game Warframe, is called a space shanty. The Bass Gang did a video for a slower, darker sounding sea shanty called Jolly Sailor Bold that is fantastic. Half-way joking, I always tell reactors new to that group to guess which one is the professional opera singer. Their number from The Beauty and the Beast, Gaston, is a great showcase for their talents. And I love the way they worked around Marwan, their 4th member, not being able to be with them physically.
