I was wondering when you would make one for the blue bowl. It is the next step in molds, anything to capture the gold and separate it. Thanks for the video.
Great video Alan. Thank you. Have you considered making your mold in reverse? You could save on silicone and have an exact size and thickness matte when done. Just a thought.

Has, I knew you would come around to the cardboard mold sooner or later. 😝👍 Yep, works great for a few mats. I picked up some mineral spirits tonight and I'm going to see how well just painting a thin layer of Silicone on the inside of a goldpan will work. I might try your mat as well if I have enough silicone.
Alan Robertson I have the pan coated so far and I'm just waiting for it to dry. Looks like the Mineral Spirits worked very well. I mixed it to a thick syrup consistency and brushed it on. If I have enough left over, I may try to make a pad like you did and see if there is any difference between them. Shouldn't be but who knows.😄
Thank you for you informative video. Why do you put the silicone in the soapy water? Does it wash out the excess food coloring? I wonder if you took a sheet of Plexiglas or regular glass for the underside of your mold, or do you want the ripples from the cardboard on the silicone?
So the soap works as a mold release so you can take the silicone off the cardboard. I do think a piece of glass work work out just fine I don't think you need a riffle. I hope this helps thanks for watching.
That works well with the blue bowl. I bought some black silicon once to try one of your mats but the black didnt dry well, I left it outside for three days and it still wasnt set up. So food coloring is the way to go.

Yes if only the 25 year old coat could tell stories it has been through a lot.
Hey Alan, why not just apply the silicone into the blue bowl? You would use less silicone and should have a better mat. You would not have do as much cutting on the silicone that way. Just a thought, had you thought of doing it that way? Thanks for all your videos that you do. Have a good day my friend.
I did think about that. I was not sure if it was going to work or not that is why I made the mat so I could remove it if it didn't work. I think it would be hard to make the silicone even if you apply the silicone in the bowl.
Another great vid Alan this blue bowl idea has me thinking ?? could ya person build a big blue bowl from a 55 gallon HDPE plastic barrel and a traffic cone put a big enough water source and recirculate system and then use that in stead of a $500.00 gold cube stack. A barrel and a traffic cone some silicone 50 bucks and use it for beach mining.
Hey why not a blue bowl on steroids I like it. Sound like you have a winter project. You never know I might give it a try I have two 55 gallon barrels. Let me know if you give it a try.
Hi Luke. So I only use Dawn. If you want to try another brand mix up the soap and water and put in a small amount of silicone and leave it for a few minutes take it out and let it dry if it sets up you are golden if not you might want to get some Dawn. I hope this helps.
I spray painted my blue bowl with magnetic paint then added neodynium magnets to where the water initially enters the bowl, which is where I add material to the bowl so it goes over the magnets first. I placed the magnets in a single loooong line that starts on the outside wall and ends at the inside wall where the water and excess material drops out, this way I can see if black sand is getting to the inside magnets. If so, I lower the water flow and start again...
So the Flex Seal did not work its not silicone. But a question what is the cause of my silicone not setting up. I have tried 3 times with silicone and every time the silicone does not set up for me still sticky after 3 days. Is there anyway to fix this. I am not sure what I did wrong, maybe time in soapy water not sure.
You are using a type two silicone you need type one moisture cure silicone like DAP 100 % silicone, MD brand from wall mart Red devil will work as well also RTV silicone from silicone depot.
I got the trick for silicone caulking. First make sure you have as small as possible of a gap 1/8 of an in. Or less! Soapy water works so it doesnt stick to your skin and so does rubbing alcohol whatever you use make sure to use a lot of it. Keep your hand drenched with it as well as the surface of the caulking!
Lol nice Alan. Always thinking of making things better. Great idea man. I saw the last video. Works great man. Why not just wipe your bowl with Vaseline and dump the silicone into the bowl itself? Why is silicone 1 used as opposed to silicone 2 ?
The silicone 2 will not setup and ruin the mold.
