Same I totally agree! 👍🏻I have two 70’s on my 60 gallon and just recently got a sponge filter inside do you think I can get rid of one of my hang on back once my sponge filter has bacteria on it?
Thank you I needed this video!!! SERIOUSLY! I was thinking that something was wrong with my filter because the water was leaking out around the intake tube 🙄 I swear I just cleaned it like two weeks ago though and my tank isn’t overstocked. But when I squeeze my sponges out, they’re still pretty nasty. Do you think I should replace the sponge? And how to replace a sponge without losing beneficial bacteria? (My impeller isnt clogged and from bottom to top I have the thick AC sponge/filter floss/AC biomedia)
Hey Michael. I have 2 hob filters, 2 pre filters and 2 sponge filters on each of my 5 tanks. Do I clean all these on the same day? Or clean one filter thoroughly on each tank? I usually clean the prefilters together in tank water In a bucket. Or the sponge filters together. What do you recommend I do?
I like aquaclears and tidal filters. I find my aquaclear runs better with a pre-sponge filter on the intake. I find their impellers to be highly sensitive to fine substrate.
@@MichaelsFishRoom my tidal 35 was at first and then not after running a while. I have a 110 and it is a bit noisy. Also, because of the surface skimmer, which I could do without tbh, if the water level drops they will get noisy.
You can use tap water to clean them out as long as your tank has been running for 6+ months. The water column and actual filter still contain overwhelming amounts of beneficial bacteria that the cholormines won't be able to overrride it.
the sound effects of the sounds of the filter, HAHHAHAAHHA. cleaning my sponge filters is fun, i actually enjoy doing it and seeing how much frickin fish poop it collected.
Love the video , just subscribed. I do have a question though, what kind of media do you use. I’ve always had a hard time finding the right media. I’m pretty sure the aqua clear 70 comes with a little white sponge and some biological filtration, but I feel as it may not be enough. So I was just wondering what you recommended. Edit: I just saw that they sell more of the white sponge foam in a 3 pack. Do you think if I were to get that and add two sponges and 1 bag of the biological filtration would be good enough?. Thanks
@@MichaelsFishRoom well I mean, considering yours, it seems like you got a lot of media for the water to go through. while the aqua clear 70 only includes one sponge and 1 bio bag
Aquaclear tip of the day: The Aquaclear impeller shafts are replaceable. Pull the shaft out, push a new one in and lubricate the inside of the impeller with food grade silicone grease, and they will always start. I replace my impeller shafts once a year.
