বাংলাদেশে স্কুল কলেজে যে পোষাকে নাচ গান করে নববর্ষ পালন হয় তা' খুব ভালো লাগে, কিন্তু তার সঙ্গে হিজাব বোরখা কি মানানসই? আমি মনে করি আগে আমরা বাঙ্গালী৷ তারপর হিন্দু, মুসলমান, খৃষ্টান, নাস্তিক বা অন্য কিছু।

As an Indian Bengali I have always felt that the Bangladeshi Bengalis including very ordinary non -elite are passionate about their language. I have been helped by ordinary Bangladeshi folks in Europe and America because I spoke in Bengali. This is what really matters for the future of Bengali culture - a love for language. Yet since Bangladesh and its predecessors came out as predominantly Muslim Bengalis from partition, there is certainly an assertion among Bangladeshis to express their Muslim culture through a language that originated as derivative of Sanskrit, like other Indian language and therefore have more words that express Hindu ways. This is a problem that South Asian Muslims face, because their languages didn’t come from Arabic or Persian, but their religious scriptures are in Arabic. Pakistanis have inserted more Arabic and Persian words in Urdu, otherwise with same Sanskrit origin like its sister Hindi. Bangladeshis may try out inserting Arabic words to establish Muslim identity.
Funnily Muslims in Arab, Persian and Turkish world don’t like domination of languages other than theirs in their culture. Hope Bangladeshis realize that languages are independent of religiosity
