অস্ট্রেলিয়া প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশি জিনবিজ্ঞানী আবেদ চৌধুরী, দীর্ঘদিন দেশি ধান নিয়ে গবেষণা করছেন। আমাদের এতিহ্যবাহী অনেক ধান যেমন ফিরিয়ে এনেছেন, তেমনি নতুন নতুন ধানের অনেক জাত উদ্ভাবন করেছেন। পঞ্চব্রীহি নামে একট নতুন জাতের ধান উদ্ভাবন করেছেন তিনি। এক রোপনে পাঁচবার ধান ফলবে এই জাতে। এ বিস্তারিত টিবিএস’র ষ্টুডিওতে কথা বলেছেন, জিনবিজ্ঞানী ড.আবেদ চৌধুরী।

ধানের গুণগত মান কেমন হবে এবং ধানের পোকা মারার বিষ ব্যবহার করতে হবে কিনা সেটাও খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
Gut test সহজলভ্য হলে তা মানব জাতির ইতিহাস ভালোর জন্য বদলে দিতে পারে। দুর্ভাগ্যক্রমে বর্তমান বাংলাদেশে বিজ্ঞানের প্রতি উৎসাহ সৃষ্টির পর্যাপ্ত পরিবেশ নাই। ড. আবেদ চৌধুরীকে ধন্যবাদ।

He did not study genetic engineering or biotechnology. Without GM it is not possible and there is no gene transferring laboratory in Bangladesh. So it will be proved after real demonstration.
Note. GM crops has negative effects on health.

প্রতি মৌসুমেই ধান উৎপাদনের পরিমাণ কমে যাবে তাই অর্থনৈতিকভাবে লাভজনক হবেনা।

জমি তৈরি আর ধান লাগানো, পরিচর্যা করা অনেক খরচ। এক বিঘা ধান লাগাতে ৭-১০ হাজার টাকা মিনিমাম খরচ হয়।
