Stevie Wonder- Straight up musical genius. This is his tribute to the great Duke Ellington!
Stevie Wonder in the seventies just kicked so much butt. Just more proof that the seventies were the best decade for music.
You could close your eyes and pick a Stevie Wonder song off a list and never find a stinker. One of the most gifted songwriters and performers of all time. He's a musical genius.
I mean, maybe no stinker stinkers, but there are some clunkers, especially when you get past his golden period.
Not a singer/performer myself -but for my three younger sisters, every year on their birthdays, I "re-purpose" a song - meaning take a good song and re-write lyrics to include their names, "happy birthday" etc. - and about 3/4 of the time it ends up being a Stevie Wonder song -- so beautiful melodies and rhythms.. that's where I look first for my songs for my sisters... lol
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Shout out to Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald!
Beautiful! 👍💖🌸☮️
Here are some of music’s pioneers that time will not allow us to forget:
There’s Basie, Miller, Satchmo, and the king of all, Sir Duke
And with a voice like Ella’s ringing out, there’s no way the band can lose!
Shout out to Glenn Miller... Never thought I'd read that...
The “Duke” in Sir Duke is jazz great Duke Ellington
Good tidbit of info. I didn't know it referred to Duke Ellington.
Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington
@@evelynguerrero12 Yup, with a nod in the lyrics to Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Ditto
Stevie Wonder can NOT not put a smile on your face.
@RayRay 711 definitely! This is such a feel good song!
That explains a lot.
The power of double negatives
@@robthecook1905 😊
When Paul Simon accepted his album of the year Grammy in 1976, he thanked Stevie Wonder for not making an album that year. Stevie won in '74, '75, didn't make one in '76 and won again in. '77.
😂😂
that was because Grammys didn't care about rock/hard rock/heavy metal until early 90s... imagine all those Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath/Deep Purple, etc. etc. albums entering the ballotings
He’s honoring some of the greatest swing and jazz pioneers. I remember when the CD came out and Every song was a hit!! So talented!!
CD?
One of the best double vinyl albums ever...
“As” is a beautiful song by Stevie Wonder
I love Stevie! I painted my kitchen in my first apartment to this song.
Stevie Wonder just brings pure joy to people's lives and that is incredibly valuable in these times in particular
Other Stevie tunes you should check out- Signed, Sealed, Delivered, My Cherie Amour, I Wish % Higher Ground!
( Count) Bassie, ( Glen) Miller, Satchmo (Louis Armstrong) and Sir Duke ( Ellington)... Those were pioneers he said. Legends of the 1930s 1940s and beyond. Remember the Nicholas Brothers? That was Count Bassie. If I recall. I adore 1930s and 1940s music. Stevie is standing on their shoulders and he acknowledges that.
Don't forget Ella - - Ella Fitzgerald.
Great song. His brass section always kills it.
"Don't you worry 'bout a thing" is another good one
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Stevie!!
If you really love me, written and sung by Stevie and his ex-wife Syreeta Wright.
That's a belter 👌
Get ready, guys! Stevie Wonder!!!! 💖💖💖👍👍👍
Anyone else feel that we went from a base-centered sound to a pure drum sound that is now "hip"? Listening to these old tracks, the base is such an integral part. So funky. Sooooooo good. Thanks for the reaction!
I meant "bass" lol.
@Stephen B There are 2 ways to pronounce bass, one is fishy, the other musical.
This was one of the lines where my bass teachers said, "YOU GOTTA LEARN THIS". Heard it once and fully agreed. Such an incredible song.
My favorite Stevie Wonder song is Livin' For the City.
He mentioned " with a voice like Ella's" ...If you ever go way back, check out Ella Fitzgerald - Begin the Beguine...she's awesome...
One of the ultimate feel good songs. He is such a genius!
"There's Basie, Miller, Satchmo and the King of all Sir Duke!" Refers to Count Basie, Glen Miller, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington - FYI. Keep 'em coming, Jay!
Antonette Key and in the next line, he refers to the scat queen, Ella Fitzgerald
This is my favorite Stevie Wonder song. The brass is amazing and, of course, so is Stevie's voice.
Songs in the Key of Life. One of the greatest albums of all time
My 12 year old won’t let me use her headphones. What a dragon! 😂😂😂✌️
Hahaha!
Andrea Wood I pinched them anyway. 😂😂😂
Turd Ferguson eh......
Burt Reynolds Hey! Snap! 😂👍
"Songs in the Key of Life" came together while Stevie was considering retiring from music. The album won Album of the Year at the grammys. Please check out "I Wish" from the same album, you will move!
Stevie Wonder is brilliant.Total music man.
"Please react to Ribbon in the sky".
beesee Will YES! ‘Ribbon in the Sky’ is one of Stevie’s best IMO. He has so many classics! Creepin’, Golden Lady, You Are The Sunshine of My Life, All Is Fair in Love... can’t possibly list them all!
I love Masterblaster by Stevie Wonder. This is a great song too.
This is a great Stevie song. My favorite Stevie Wonder songs are “If You Really Love Me” and “Overjoyed.” They both make you feel G O O O O D! 😊 😊 😊
Superb tribute to the great Duke Ellington. My Dad, who is my music mentor, about fell out of his chair when he heard your reaction.
Songs In The Key Of Life is an album to be listened to straight through, total masterpiece. Incidentally, my grandfather owned a jazz club in the 1940s-70s and Duke Ellington [the 'Sir Duke' of this song] was a good friend that played music there often. Got lots of treasured autographed photos all over my house!
Such a great choice! A favorite of mine since I was a kid. Can’t help but smile!
🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶Stevie Wonder is music!!! He’s one of those whose music is timeless as it is good for your soul...👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Songs in the key of life. The entire album is good! You should listen to the entire album. Knocks me off my feet, is a song that you likely haven't heard.
❤LOVE STEVIE! 🎵"Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" & "Boogie On Reggae Woman" r 2 faves!
Have you ever seen the old stuff? Check out "Little Stevie Wonder" - "Fingertips" ... there is a live TV video avaible ... Stevie was 13 back then and rocked the house!
That entire album "Songs in the key of life" deserves a reaction on its own!! It's a classic masterpiece album and Stevie's best album!!
Stevie's the best. Yet another classic song from his classic album "Songs in the Key of Life". You might also want to check out "Another Star", "Boogie on Reggae Woman" and "Higher Ground." They didn't call him a genius for nothing!
I wonder if he's ever heard the theme from 'Shaft' by Isaac Hayes. The horns.....the funk.....that guitar.
Sir Duke is my favorite song from Stevie Wonder.
The duke he’s referring to in this song is Duke Ellington.
The other music pioneers that he mentions are Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Satchmo is Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
The song was released in 1976 on its parent album, Songs in the Key of Life.
The song reached #1 on the Canada Top Singles chart, #2 on the UK Singles chart, #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #1 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart and #3 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart.
Released in 1076?
It is worth a listen to a Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller and Ella Fitzgerald tunes from the way back machine.
@@leannewilson7184 NO ONE brought the funk like the Normans! :D :D
This is my favorite Stevie Wonder song, too. But sometimes I think whatever Stevie song I’m listening to at the moment is my favorite, they’re all so good!
@@leannewilson7184 Yup, 10 years after the Battle of Hastings, funky medieval music, you can't beat it ....... :-D
AMAZING pick buddy. Keep it up!
Stevie Wonder is amazing at anything he does. His songs always make me smile ❤️
YES! YES!! Way to kick off Motown Monday!!! My absolute favorite SW song of ALL TIME!!! It’s a history lesson as well as an awesome groove song!!! ❤️🙌🏼❤️🙌🏼
Beautiful! 💖👍👍
I agree 😍
That look of disappointment on his face when the song ended was PRICELESS!!!
You need to listen to “As”. It’s a beautiful song. Also, George Michael and Mary J . Blige do a good version.
What a brilliant start. Brilliant song. Funky stuff.
Epic tune. Stevie is awesome, has so many great songs from the 70’s.
Heaven is 10 zillion light years away by Stevie
One of the best vocal performances
Another good one is Do I Do.
One of the best album titles EVER !!!
You can never go wrong with Stevie!!! You shld hear his version of "Blowin In The Wind"!!! It was written by Bob Dylan! Stevie does more than justice to it!!!
Thanks for keeping your channel so diverse!! Loved this reaction. I knew this song but didn't know the title
Love this song. Had fun playing it in Stage Band in High School.
I first heard this in 76 or 77. I was 13 or 14. That was the start of following this legend.
Bro within seconds you were movin, groovin and smilin. That's the wonder effect.
One of Stevie's best songs from his best album. I Wish, As, Sir Duke, Village Ghetto Land... this album is one of the greatest masterpieces of all time
Stevie is such a joy & talent. Good start to the lineup!👍🏻
missgmoma Hey, sweetie! 💖
Turd Ferguson hello my friend, hope you’re having a good day 🌹
He's so freaking brilliant. One of my all-time favorites!
he wrote this when he was 26! from 21-26 he had an amazing stretch of albums. dude is a master/legend!
STEVIE!!! I loved that you said he woke you up, because I almost always use Stevie Wonder songs to wake up to! There is no better way to start or re-start a day, IMO! He’s so good at getting me in a joyful groove. But he can do more than that, too, like in my *favorite* Stevie song, Heaven Help Us All. What a masterpiece. My request list for him is long but here are a few (again! 😂): Heaven Help Us All
Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away
Joy (Takes Over Me)
Never Had a Dream Come True
Smile Please ❤️
Stevie playing EVERY instrument is so sweet! Peace!
The great and only Stevie wonder, fantastic 🤗🤗🤗🤗.

Ma Chéri amour. A great Stevie song
This song definitely makes you want to move....so funkydelic💃🎶
Songs In The Key Of Life is one of the great classic albums of the 70`s full of classic songs that were hits for Stevie himself or hit covers for other people.
“Isn’t She Pretty” is the sweetest. A Stevie must.
It's called "Isn't She Lovely"
I believe it's called "Isn't She Lovely". Great Song.
He wrote it right after he met his newborn baby daughter!!!
Stevie did the vocals, piano, & drums on this as well wrote & produced it. Stevie is the definition of music.
Get ready to groove 🔥👍💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻♥️♥️♥️♥️
This song is such a bop
The Genius Of Stevie Wonder..The Whole Album Is Chocolate With A Nip Of Rum.. Gorgeous 🇬🇧
Gotta love Sir Steve!
Stevie has been on the music seen since he was about 12 years old! He is simply an amazing artist. The harmonica he will blow your mind!
Such a funky groove..you can feel it all over!! I love this song!
This album, “Songs in the Key of Life,” is a front to back masterpiece. Another amazing tribute Stevie did, though not from this album, is “Master Blaster.” It’s a tribute to Bob Marley. You can’t go wrong with any Stevie Wonder song. 🧡💛❤️
He's a great artist to delve into. Plus he played a bunch of instruments. Genius.
This whole album is great, you need to hear all the songs.
Stevie Wonder sounded absolutely awesome thru mono white plastic single ear piece on a portable palm AM size am transistor radio in the 1976. Wasn't complicated at all. It was magic.
Thanks for playing this song! Stevie Wonder is the BEST!!!☮☮
Stevie actually played most of the instruments on all of his albums. He then gets the absolute best musians for tours and such.
So so good jay !!!
All studio. Stevie was the grandfather of the mixing board. Wouldn't be where it is without him. Yes, he played keys, but studio work was his gift.
Stevie Wonder us a true musical genius.
One of Stevie Wonder's best - so exuberant!!
Went to see him at Wembley Arena when this was a hit, seems like a lifetime ago. Amazing performance. The guy is a legend.
Saw him in Oakland during his 'In Square Circle' tour....sometime in the 1980s? I remember the lights going down, and huge monitors above the stage showed Stevie outside, being stopped by 'security'......not being allowed inside, because he didn't have a ticket.....LOL. But then when the lights came up again......he was standing there center-stage, a big smile on his face.....soaking in the love from the fully-packed house.
Who is the 1 person who didn't like this, come on now!!
Great reaction!!! Stevie is legendary
- "Stevie wolk us all up!" True dat man.
Gotta review Master Blaster 1980 . It has a reggae feel).Stevie is one of the greatest songwriters in history! His catalogue of music is insane. There are no bad Stevie songs. **Stevie is one of the main people other than Kings family, that lobbied to get MLK's Birthday to become a national holiday. The Happy Birthday song ihe wrote & performed s iconic esp. In the black community.
No way man...Stevie Wonder is Absolutely Amazing
It's STEVIE!!! Don't need to say much more about it. He was always on point thru every song. Love the jazzy feel n the tribe to the greats of years gone by.
Motown Monday!!! YES!!! This is such a great song by Stevie!! I love it!! So fun and peppy! Sitting here smiling, snapping my fingers, dancing in my chair! My son is a band director, Stevie Wonder has a whole band in there! lol
Jamming ✌️😁🇬🇧👍🙏
Probably one of my favorite songs of all time! Pure genius, and little else makes you happier!
One of the all-time greatest album and one of the greatest artists. 🐕. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Just one of his many great hits. One of the Greatest singers.1976 was the year that I graduate 👨🎓 high school 🏫 .
I remembered this once I heard his wonderful voice. Stevie Wonder is the gentleman I named my eldest son for and my Steve is a gentleman too. What a great song to start with Jayvee its a mix of vocals and instrumentals. I feel better for just hearing this happy song.
