Guys, these conversations have been valuable to me. I’m a Broadway actor and singer, so music is my trade. However, writing/recording is my hobby. Plus, I’m just a general music lover. I learn so much just listening to the three of you; not only about making records, but I now have several new artists that I love. Thank you from my soul😊
Can't Beat 'Crate Digging' back in the 80's & 90's. I spent the best part of 20years doing this pass time and still have over 1000 Vinyl Album's and Singles along with my Technic's SL1210 mk2's
If you need advice about writing, production, recording and mixing Warren's your man! So much knowledge and so happy to share it all. Absolutely marvelous!
Great discussion. I have Warren's book and I can only agree that it's fantastic. It's incredibly dense. I hope that you guys will do more stuff with Warren, even if it ends up being over Zoom or the like.
I feel like the "grumpy OLD voiceover artist" - because I seem to be the only one who recognised the Fawlty Towers quote. Ah well, at least I didn't mention the ..... ;-)
@@Producelikeapro absolutely great - depth quite unlike in the stereo version. But I don’t really have a reference, maybe will have to find something I’m already familiar with in order to compare?

I'd probably share a bunch of favourite records (Black Sabbath's debut), In Rock, Raw Power. This idea of what's well recorded is very subjective. I'm with Steve Albini in that these records are great, because, they are recordings of the band as they sounded playing together. And that's why they are great albums. And so many 'great recordings' are not such great albums. Because the ensemble's personality and group musicality has been lost by prioritising getting a 'great recording'. But recording should be secondary to great performance. Great engineers should first of all try not to get in the way of the music. Stimulating creativity, as producer / engineers like Syvia Massey or Martin Hannet did can inspire music. But, if you look at what the mix engineers did to Butch Vig's more or less faithful tracking of Nirvana's Nevermind, to try to make it a 'Greater Album' they can spoil an album's integrity. It's a sad state affairs then, when someone like Kurt Cobain is left really hating the sound of the final album. But was pressured into compromising his artistic integrity. Can't have helped matters.
Pure Gold :) Well done Mark James & Warren

If you can’t hear Floppy’s deep bass, perhaps try replacing your sub-woofer with a sub-meower.
Hahaha

There’s a ‘Google translate’ link in Warren’s reply and, apparently, in English “hahaha” means “haha”... isn’t language wonderful..?
