Hope you enjoy this one - it was fun to make 😆! I've also just completely updated and improved "Music Theory for Producers" which will help you write great music 👉 bit.ly/3VHzcrq!
Hi will, hope your well sensei, is the MTFP updated in the academy as i was halfway through it?
Wait a second! Was that the lovely Mrs. EDM Tips I saw? LOL Loved the video format Will.
As someone that's just starting out and been struggling to get melodies, this is like a melodies for dummies guide and I'm eternally grateful.
I’m glad it helped!
this is in fact gold
Cheers! Glad you found it helpful 🙂
I laughed when you said “so many family weddings” - yeah, as a former DJ, I feel your pain, Will 😂😂
I knew some people would relate to this 😂 Thanks for watching, Stephanie!
lmao
Will’s upped his editing and style and I love it!
Appreciate it, Rich! It's much more effort, but I enjoy it too :)
I swear, every single video I watched since I discovered your channel recently was pure mithril. Your videos always give me that ahaa! moment. Somehow so simple and to the point, while being in depth. Thank you soo much!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and for the kind words of support 🙂
Yes, rhythm, syncopated phrasing is important, but you missed a biggie! It’s how to push and pull the melody against the chord. Music is all about tension and release. That ABBA track is arguably the most classic - it constantly pushes and pulls against the underlying chord, sometimes sus 4 and ninths, and famously the major 7th and diabolical half octave in the chorus - always resolving - it’s pure ear candy!
Good point well made!
@@EDMTips love your vids btw, I couldn’t help but chime in :)
This technique is actually so great! keep it up!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed :)
Easily the best video I’ve seen in this topic. Thanks ❤
Thank you, I am glad it was helpful! 🙌🏻
Gold. I've watched a lot of melody videos but not really heard this before. So, well done!
Cheers, I am glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙂🙏
why aren't you a famous artist? you have all the knowledge and skills to be a great one, instead of teaching here (without detracting from the excellent valuable content you provide).
I am famous in my way! :) I never thought I would be a teacher, but I thoroughly enjoy it and I believe people can feel it and enjoy the process with me.
To be fair, it’s day 6 on this one video and it has 25k views. My favorite artists get maybe 50k song streams a month total.
Can’t say he’s not killing it. The question is, does Will want to be putting on concerts or sharing knowledge and making videos?
But yeah… the talent is there, and I’ve wondered the same. It’s gotta just be personal preference. I for one and happy for it. Helps me so much.
Thanks for doing what you do, Will!
Loved when you found your inspiration in nature , that’s the unique place where its producer can’t be wrong.
Great work , thanks man👋
Cheers, Leo! Gald you liked it 🙂 Nature is a great place for inspiration indeed!:)
you sir are a talent in both music and teaching
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kind words of support! 🙌🏻

This is the holy Grail. Thanks for sharing.
Really glad you liked it! Any point in particular you found useful?
Thanks Will! Absolutely awesome video! So much value! Can’t wait to try this out and pay more attention to the syncopation! This tip alone will make huge improvements! 🔥🔥

Stoked to hear that! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙂
thank you for this ! yes good rhythm also needed for getting nice and memorable melodies . That`s why so many melodies generator failed short to produce great melodies without doing deep editings
Great point! Thanks for watching and I am glad you liked it 🙂🙌🏻
Amazing mentor !
Appreciate it! 🙌🙏
💥🔥🔥🔥🔥 You are the light in my EDM Journey. Thanks for those tips
You're welcome, Marco, I am really glad you liked it! 🙂
Thank you this has steered me into a different direction and definatly helped ! Good work man
Stoked to hear that, man! Keep up at it :)
This video is actually gold
Appreciate it! 🙂 Thanks for watching and supporting 🙏
Bro this was dope. The part about the notes being all on beat and sounding robotic gave me some ideas/inspiration cuz I make melodies sometimes that are in this style of workflow. I need to offset them more to make a different rhythm or bounce by doing that syncopation technique you talked about. Also putting the whole melody on one note straight line was crazy, idk why but I never tried that before lol. I think its cuz I dont make dance music where that technique is probably used on.
Awesome, I am glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching and for the kind words of support 🙂
Great tips as always 👍
Thank you, Jon, glad you found it helpful! 🙌🏻
Thanks!😀
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed :)
yooo will is jacked now

@@EDMTips I really liked the idea of contrast where you played long notes in the melody and syncopated rhythm with the chords
Great stuff Will. Always things to take away from your tutorials
Thanks for the kind words of support! Really glad you enjoyed my videos so far!
Yes, finally I'm going to get rich with my next track! ... if not, still a very good video, thanks!
You're welcome, glad you liked it! 🙌🏻
I am really not into this sort of dance music, but I learned so many things here. So great channel, man!

very good thankyou
You’re welcome, really glad you found it helpful! 🙂🙏🏻
Very valuable insight Will, but would you say that what you suggest would work across genres, besides contemporary pop? Actually, in your example at the end, it really sounded like you composed a simple tropical house track specifically.
Absolutely! It seems to be present across genres
WILL ROCKZZZ!!! GREETZ FROM AMSTERDAM!

3:37 In the 3rd track of dancing queen there are metric accents on every first beat of 1, 2 & 3 bar and the parts of melody between them. As a result every short melody part begins not from the accented note. In russian musical academic theory this thing called "zatakt" which can be translated as "pre-bar". So technicaly it is not a syncope. This thing just make your (or not your :) ) rhythmic accented catchy melody not so boring and robotic. Just remove all notes except these accented ones and you will get your "catchy" component, it sounds some kind of slow short melody.Ah and one more thing. The short notes sound choppy in your melody. The secret is in how human speach works. In words stressed vowels sound longer. Musical perception goes from human speech mechanism. Human speach have no drum beats. So remove your drums and make accented notes longer like in ABBA track. This accented notes should be strictly same length and you will hear. You will get the melodyc rhythm witout drum beats.
Yaaaay
First!

Cheers! Glad you liked it 🙂
So, does the tempo matter, because all these examples you have are the same?

Hey,can u make music with fl studio mobile? I've been try to make music in fl studio and fl studio mobile,i feel easy when make music in fl studio, but hard on fl studio mobile, i feel my music like trash when make on fl studio mobile
Alas, it's a no from me :) For now, I am sticking to Ableton Live so join the dark side!
You can 'improve' your composing skills, not 'learn' composing. Its about the imagination and creativity.
Great video, and correct. The funny thing is though, that explaining this doesn't actually help anyone to write great stuff if they don't have it in them, and it isn't necessary for the few that do have it in them, because they just do it instinctively! It's a bit like having quantum theory equations explained to you clearly and precisely, will not help you do quantum theory equations if you don't have the brain for it!! Still very informative though!!
Thanks for watching, and glad you enjoyed it! I disagree, though - I’ve found that most things are teachable within most people - it’s very rare I meet someone completely devoid of musical ability (but it has happened a couple of times)
@EDMTips I have no money im a stay home dad that was told by my fiance to keep driving for my dream. so I spend all my days learning anything can for music. my biggest issue is my learning curve. it took me 10+ years to be as good as I am with my music production and thats through me trying to decipher what I see from your videos and other peoples videos. I have no support from friends or family I have to do this all on my own. if and when I get to your level of knowledge I plan on making everything I teach free atleast for those who show the initiative of wanting to learn their passion if I can teach them. I am not trying to force your hand. I was raise to be truthful no matter how much it may hurt. if I could I would have joined another bootcamp/independent class and this class because I hunger for that knowledge. I hope your classes do well for you. I for one refuse to take any classes unless I can pay for them I will not allow my fiance to pay for them for me unless she really pushes to buy them for me. its only right and moral to do.
Thanks for sharing your story! Keep up it, and don't give up. There is so much free information out there you can learn anything!
9:00-12:00 is a really good technique both for beginners and experts. Definitely sharing with some people who can benefit.
100%! Thanks for sharing and supporting the channel 🙂
Do a what do i eat video
I doubt that will be interesting 😂
#23 that's a messed up movie bro

Man I watched that whole thing waiting for the Mr Blobby breakdown. Much disappoint. Oh well, great vid anyway.
Haha, sorry to disappoint! I will include him in the future in one of my videos to make up for this :)
Looks like Florida…

@@EDMTips thanks for the video you make, it gives interesting ideas for music production
Why don’t you try doing this on a Puccini aria, like “Un bel di,” or “Addio fiorito asil,” and tell me what you find. Here’s a hint:
Beautiful melody has nothing to do with syncopation.
What it has to do with? Maybe you can share with me your thoughts :)
And this is why almost everything sounds the same these days.
Well, you don’t HAVE to do this. You could just hit random notes on a random rhythm and create something truly original!
@@EDMTips sure that’ll work perfectly!
Maybe u should try something different on your channel, like a vlogs that would be interesting to watch.
Can you expand on that idea? What kind of vlogs you're thinking?
@@EDMTipsone idea would be non scripted writers block. If that ever happens to you let alone off guard whilst casually filming!
Best melody = Alice Deejay Better Off alone
No!!
Kernkraft= Zombie nation
It is a very good melody but is it the best? :)
Sorry but i hear only the first note... Copyright issues?
i mean 1/16... Than silence
Nope, don’t have any copyright on this video 🙂
😂 … 😂
Hmm... cheers! 🙂
HOW OLD AM I
Is it a question? Is it a statement?
@@EDMTips nothing I was just checking something, sorry
Too old to ask! 😅
Ah..okay,....now I got it. That's the reason why all the crap on the radio feels like..."it's the same song". Come on dude,.. honestly ?? Imagine a world of music that all works the same way.... that's horribly boring !!
Thanks for the feedback.
Forget the melody! Keep it all on one note and you have an Afro house banger 😂
You know it 😂
HOW OLD AM I?
whoa, will, lay back on those quick cuts. some of us drink and smoke pot and take psychedelics when we watch youtube ( i never watch youtube sober, ever) . the quick cuts are unpleasant, even when one is sober and just on caffeine. you don't need to cater to people with short attention spans. that's not what using a daw is about. theres a reason that filmmakers who use long cuts are revered. i'd also recommend ditching that side camera angle, it's profoundly corny, and the forced smiles and the weird looks with your eyes, like this one at 1:13 if you freeze the vid. relax, and be yourself. tell your editor to stop showing off. i tend to stop watching channels when they indulge like this. go back to your old format. mark my words. you're only going to attract low-rent viewers with this kind of style. i promise you.
I am sorry you feel I force my smiles and look corny. smile when I feel like it and actually like spicing things up. I also don't record when on pot or psychedelics, so maybe that's it!
Thank you for your feedback, I will take it onboard.
its still no banger
Thanks for the feedback!
@@EDMTips Yes, I know the strategy on UA-cam as well
I cant unse the crooked mouth while talking
😂
We got to the fruit... Do you bring out Abba? Ha ha ha e in rumble techno? What is the melodic "catchy"?
Great tip!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙂
