- We spent a week on the North Norfolk Coast in Sheringham Park at the National Trust cottages of Cartledge Barns. We enjoyed several walks through the autumn colours and along the cliffs overlooking the North Sea. On this day we visited the National Trust property at Felbrigg Hall. The Estate has several walks by the Church and Lake which lead eventually to the Great Wood. Filled with Ancient Beech trees , Oaks, Sweet Chestnuts, Ash and Sycamores the Great Wood has a unique memorial that commemorates Victory in WWII and the loss of Richard, brother to the Squire. In the Autumn the woods are full of colour and at ground level there are multitudes of fungi.

The Victory V is a great memorial to the Allied victory and those who were lost in battle. This estate is beautiful. We loved looking at the building and animals and grounds. Looks like a great place for a walk.

Thanks for your comments. The funghi including the mushrooms in the park on the rotting tree stumps were a real surprise. There was such a variety. It was a misty day but in the woods not a problem..

Wow! What a stunning estate! This places are always so intriguing, the grounds, the gardens, the buildings themselves. They all look like scenes from a movie - just stunning. The walk through the trees made us miss fall! Fantastic displays of fungi and moss - wow! "My woods are my joy and pride" - wow - fantastic quote! I bet that "v" is fantastic to see in person - what an AWESOME memorial idea, and such a moving gesture. Wow - thanks for this share!
Glad you enjoyed it. There is a seat set back in the apex of the "V" which is a great place to sit and gaze down the alleys of Beeches. There are so many estates like this near us and so many now in the care of the National Trust whose mission is to protect these places for everyone, forever.

It really is! We enjoyed a really interesting easy walk on a not so promising day. At home we might have stayed in. As we were away we make a bit more effort. We are always rewarded for doing that.

Thank you very much! Parts of the building are about 500 years old and is looked after by the National Trust which protects old historic buildings. The estate is in their care also. Glad you liked the short walk.

Thanks for visiting. There are so many great places out there. I enjoy them all. In the summer this is all very different with multitudes of varieties of green. There is also a very attractive walled garden. The walking around here is so attractive.

In summer this place has a really good and very colourful walled garden. Like everywhere there is much else to see in the area. If you do like misty weather this does come in from the North Sea quite regularly. Have a good week.
