What's your favourite part of the North Stars history? Anything you find particularly interesting?

Growing up in Victoria, I was well aware of the North Star. I grew up in James Bay and spent many years living on a boat at and adjacent to Fishermans Warf. We knew the family (owners) of North Star well... I hung out with their kids. Was only ever on board a handful of times however.
I remember the stories and thinking how amazing it would have been up North on that vessel.
I am so stoked to see this happening. Would love to come and see her during the rebuild process. Also pretty excited to see another major restoration of a historic wooden vessel hit the UA-cams. Tally Ho is in th water now and I need my West Coast old boat restoration fix.

I first saw the North Star on the bank of the Mackenzie River at Inuvik, where I was working, in 1970. Next in the inner harbour of Victoria, BC, where I live. Quite a surprise! Glad to know a little more of her history.

I've done my fair share of work on old wooden hulls and you folks have a massive job ahead of you. Also a massive opportunity to bring back a real piece of Canadian history.

@@FavouriteBoatworks My favorite job was the 1953 Chris Craft power launch. The mahogany planked hull was in great shape but the top sides were shot. Total cabin rebuild. Then there was the 1903 deep keel sail boat my boss brought over from England. That one was a rebuild from the water line down. I'll never forget the day the shop foreman dropped the lead keel on his leg. An anchor bot opened his leg up like a zipper.

Wow, the arrogance of Pedersen and company at doubting the Indigenous fur traders’ ability to commission a ship such as The North Star of Hershel Island. This ship illustrates the economic savvy and entrepreneurship of us, we the Indigenous peoples of this nation of nation known as Canada.

Herschel Island where North Star was working is actually one of the islands that is heavily affected by rising sea levels and tawing permafrost, the island is disappearing at a high pace unfortunately.

Are you seriously arguing against the fact that the ice pack in the arctic has drastically declined in the last decades? Herschel Island, North Stars home port, is one of the most affected islands in the world by rising sea levels.
