Guitar demo and pedal review of the LONGSWORD from ELECTRONIC AUDIO EXPERIMENTS.
"The Electronic Audio Experiments Longsword is yet another contender in the endless void of op-amp based drive pedals-familiar but with some novel twists. Cascaded gain stages allow for the full range from clean boost to massive distortion, all without sacrificing tonal flexibility. The equalizer combines bass and treble shelving filters with an active, frequency-selectable midrange boost/cut control. This lets the user sculpt a diverse array of tones and carve out a niche in even the most dense of mixes. The Longsword has a broad frequency response which makes it work equally well with guitar, baritone, and bass."

Thanks for another fantastic demo! The low end definition with those pickups is really astonishing. Never heard a 335-style guitar sound like that before with low tunings! Really good stuff.
Thanks so much for that! I truly appreciate you watching and the kind words. Yea, those Deacons really keep the 335 under control. Love it.
It really, really gels with this pedal! Amazing guitar.
Solid review! Really digging your riffs. I love my Longsword. Will very likely never leave my board. Even though ive had it for at least six months, i find myself consistently watching reviews for this pedal, just to see how other people use it. You did not disappoint!
@@ediththeband Thank you!
@@GLiex That’s so cool if you to say. I really appreciate it. I totally agree about the Longsword. Such a stellar pedal.
Killer pedal and another fantastic demo! Love those LS + Slow Loris tones. Thanks you!!
Thanks so much! I appreciate it!
Ooh that drop-tuned hollow body sounds phenomenal with Longsword. I love my Longsword too and it feels like multiple pedals are just crammed in there. Great demo.
Thanks so much! I appreciate that a lot. Love your channel. I agree. The Longsword is outstanding and deep!
@@boringgearreviews Thanks! Likewise! I love the thoughtful and pragmatic insights you give about gear (also love your musical aesthetic). :)
@@basementlyle That’s kind of you. Thanks. Your compositions and atmosphere are truly stellar. Looking forward to more!
Love my Longsword for bass, absolutely brilliant pairing with the model fet too. EAE are some of the only pedals which have consistently lived up to my internal hype.
Really love the depth of this review, not only does it reinforce how amazing the pedal is, its a brilliant user guide for how to get some different tones. I'm terrible for getting a tone I'm pretty happy with and not really exploring further, this makes me want to keep fiddling.
Thanks so much for watching and your kind words. I totally agree about EAE always delivering and living up to the hype. Solid stuff, every time!
@@boringgearreviews went back and tried some of your settings and definitely found some new favourites for guitar. I've just recently got the Halberd too which is an incredible pedal, perfect for clanky noisy rock but is super versatile. I want them all! 😂
@@JoeDinsdale That’s rad! Yea, I want to lick up a Halberd as well. EAE pedals are like Pokémon 🤣
very unique pedal
Totally. Great pedal for sure.
Jane doe poster is so sick
Thanks so much!
Damn fine demo. I really enjoyed the jams... Perhaps I should add drums and bass to some.
Speaking of which, I am curious as to how this would fair on bass. I absolutely do not have the money to try this out, still in the midst of purchasing a few other pedals for my weird hybrid solo bass pedalboard (as I always am nowadays) - but this shows a lot of promise.
My main concern is lack of a clean blend/low end blend, but I suppose that could be remedied later in the signal chain (with a mixer of sorts, I've had plans to build a passive one specifically for this appliction).
The distortion spot on my pedal board is still very much up for debate if EAE want to release a bass oriented version, the warhammer or broadsword or battleaxe or anything along those lines...
Thanks for watching and the kind words. The Longsword is fantastic on bass. The eq is very powerful and handles low end extremely well. Good luck with building your board!
Awesome and informative (and Transparent - no coloring of sound or commentary;)). I would be curious what your thoughts are regarding Longsword vs. 1981? Thank you kindly - subd!
Thanks so much for the kind words and sub! I truly appreciate it! I haven’t played the 1981 but have only heard amazing things about it. The eq section on the Longsword is one of the most powerful in any drive pedal I’ve played, so I’d assume it’s capable of a bit more; but they’re both top level quality and sound for sure.
Great demo and and also very nice playing, any guitarists that you're drawing from here or in a similar style of music?
Thanks so much. I appreciate that! Nobody in particular but artists like The Cure, Bill Frisell, Chelsea Wolfe, Oathbreaker, Deftones, Zeppelin, Sabbath and Converge have, in general, inspired me greatly.
7:41 This riff. This sound. Did I just cheat on my wife? I need a shower. And a cigarette.
HAHHAHAHHAHA! Hey, what happens on UA-cam, stays on UA-cam.
What tuning are you using? Your videos are great. Thank You.
Thanks so much! This is drop A#
End boss of distortion pedals. No contest.
Hahah YES!!!
I don't really understand that term of transparent. Where is the difference to other dirt pedals?
I hear you. It’s mostly a made up term that sounds cool. To be fair though, for me, it is indicative of a drive tone that allows the natural characteristics and harmonics of your guitar to still be heard. Also a drive that blends well with other drive pedals, so you can hear their tonal qualities as well.
@@boringgearreviews Good description! Right now I am thinking about if logically you can do that with every dirt pedal/amp, as long as you find the right "break up spot".
@@bonjonbovi- If you take a Super Overdrive or Tube Screamer for example, no matter what the setting, it totally changes the sound of your guitar. So it’s not just adding distortion but it’s also making your guitar sound completely different. Those pedals totally change every other pedal they interact with too. Not that it’s bad, I just wouldn’t describe them as transparent. They both completely color your tone.
@@boringgearreviews okay yes I understand. As also every amp has its unique sound, those non-transparent pedals have theirs do to filters. That is really interesting
@@bonjonbovi- I agree 100%! With electric guitars there is no such thing as natural sound. Wood, construction methods, pickups, wiring, pots, capacitors, strings, picks, cables, amps, speakers, more cables, etc. I guess it’s more of a perceived transparency. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
