yeah sonic superstars is great, really feels like a true genesis era game. but while i do like that there's no dumb gimmicks, they coulda innovated just a bit more imo. also i disagree about the zones being consistent, the last few zones stumble in a few ways
The game was decent, but the lack of a life system ruined it for me, because I was essentially playing a game that I couldn't lose. This also made exploration(outside of chaos emerald rings) feel pointless.
I 100% agree. I don’t give a flying frick about what the public reception of this game is, I don’t care about how many people declare that it’s bad, and I won’t let anyone tell me otherwise. This is my favorite classic sonic game. I love it to death. It’s not perfect. Far from it. But I still love it a lot. Even if this game is considered the worst game, I will still enjoy it. but they should really drop the price, I bet if it was $25-$30 then it would be immediately praised, or atleast have a better reception. Because I have to admit, $60-$70 is a lot.
After seeing those few seconds of your Hyper Sonic gameplay in Sonic 3K I'm about to blow your fuckin mind. Hyper Sonic's air dash is DIRECTIONAL. So if you jump and then you hold up when you hit the jump button again in mid-air, you can shoot upwards instead of just left or right.
@@RickyNuggets I see mommy didn’t give you enough attention buddy. how about they just stop making sonic games because you’re a spoiled brat and can’t appreciate anything in life
I was surprised to see that others considered it so bad. I really like the new zones, the characters, and I actually thought the gameplay felt just as good as the 2D games. I also think its weird that people criticize the game for being too hard, 2D Sonic games were always hard lol, remember Sonic 2 where you have to fight two final bosses without rings? Or pretty much the entirety of Sonic 1?
As someone who played Mega Collection with my little brother as a kid and Mania, this video does well to highlight my feelings on Superstars. Mania is a masterpiece, don't get me wrong, but it does feel like the reuse of stages holds it back. While Mania does do a few things better, I think Superstars suits my preference better. I know people are going to say they think one is better than the other, but just like Sonic 2 and 3 and Sonic Advance 2 and 3, Sonic Mania and Superstars are somewhat equal in quality, but in different ways. Ultimately, its down to the preference of the individual to decide which game they get more enjoyment out of.
Yeah when I first played Mania I just assumed the reused stages would only be like one or two stages, but I was disappointment when it was like half the game. I really enjoyed the desert and Tv studio levels and wanted to see more like it.
I don't like the implication in this comment that everyone calling this game disappointing are asking for more nostalgia. I love Studiopolis and did expect them to keep going in that direction of new zones. I'm disappointed with the game for a few reasons, biggest one is it just isn't as fun as Mania or 3K in my opinion.
@@Chillipeffer well I wasn't implying anything like that. I was saying the style of level design is different between the two games. I'm well aware that Mania's primary flaw is the overuse of nostalgia, but I think if you were to take away level aesthetics, I'd prefer how it feels to play Superstars's levels. Purely a preference thing.
The more I played Superstars, the more I appreciated it. Mania is still my favorite, but Superstars is still a solid Sonic game even if it's a bit inconsistent at times. I DO like some of the elements added from the 3D games. (The Generations style map, the bigger focus on character themed levels and story viewpoints.)
yeah inconsistency is a big issue with superstars, and the reason mania comes out on top. mania has incredible zone after incredible zone, it never pulls the brakes. superstars meanwhile has a lot of zone ideas, but some of them arent too great
This is a game that is let down by the worst boss fights I have ever seen in a game. Giving Fang instant kill moves nearly destroyed my enthusiasm for this game completely. I mean why give the Player Rings at all if that little shit can kill you instantly either way? I'm glad you enjoyed it but to me personally it is a disappointment. Remove the shitty boss fights and this game would be perfect.
Totally agree. I think Mania is amazing and I still might say it’s the better game, but having new Zones is so nice. I find myself playing it for way longer than I mean to. Solid game.
Im a truly fan of Modern Sonic since I played Adventure 2 until today, and I gotta say, that when I saw Sonic Superstars I literally felt nostalgia from the times I played the classic Sonic flash games from the internet. Its truly fantastic how sonic games have been evolving till now that were grown adults, am I the only one that still thinks that being a Sonic fan from the beggining I started playing was totally worth it?
I said the same thing, but this might be an exaggeration/rumor. Iizuka definitely suggested more emphasis on bringing back old levels, and he is basically the boss, but it sounds like the original plans already entailed bringing back old locations in some capacity.
Sounds like you GET it! And the OP sounds great with "His World". You sound a lot like I did when I reviewed "Sonic Frontiers" (which is on my SonicPAJ channel).
sonic frontier is pretty good, although technically really lacking. it can sometimes get annoying as hell when you run against some odd random wall which didnt populate fast enough yet (if you play with a maxed out speed sonic). but even with those issues, the game sure as hell is fun and feels great to play.
I haven't played Superstars yet, but I've played Sonic 1, 2, CD and 3&K, and this game looks like the Kirby's Return to Dreamland of Sonic games. It looks hype!!!
I honestly agree. I wouldn’t call it the best, but it’s certainly tonnes better than whatever you can find in some of the game gear titles. Sorry to trash on game gear, but I always thought it was lacking in a lot. I can forgive sonic 2 8-bit though.
Sonic mania with 60$/3 and 12 zones most of them are used in original games: it's fine Sonic superstars with 60$ and 12 original zones: nOOooO oVeRPrIcED!1!!1
Sonic Mania devs didn’t WANT to reuse zones lol, Sega made them though. But then, between then and now, the whole fanbase loudly got sick of Green Hill and Chemical Plant, and Superstars was lucky enough to be developed after they corrected course. edit: turns out this might just be a rumor/exaggeration, take with saltgrain
@@samcandlesHuh, besides the fact the original pitch was called “Sonic Discovery,” I actually can’t find any information pointing either way that isn’t just rumors. Maybe they started with a plan to have “changed” old worlds or just a few old locations, and were encouraged to rework it in a more familiar direction? Or maybe the exact opposite happened and it really was supposed to just be classic zone remixes at first? Or maybe 2/3 old zones, 1/3 new zones was always the plan. Different people have different tastes. To me, the bosses in the classic games were awful. You just hit em 8 times in a row and they die. In Superstars, the bosses take more thought and skill to defeat. They aren't perfect, but I see them as a step up from old Sonic bosses. As for the stages, I love them all (except maybe Press Factory). They each have unique gimmicks and they look great.
