One of my fondest memories of triforce heroes was playing in the middle of the night, and only finding two other players. We managed to beat like 3 worlds in one sitting, and we even got matched up again when we all went to get the Goron garb! Its a shame I was never able to add them and become friends with those two, I hope they're doing good.
Here are a few things that weren't mentioned for Triforce Heroes during the video: Each 3DS has it's own save data when using Download Play. Everything you do is saved independently of the other players and the Green Link's game. The console will remember every level you have completed (and unlocked), what materials you have, your rupees, even the costumes you have unlocked. Though, for the last one, other than the main tunic, you can only ever craft 2 of those. I learned it the hard way (I recommend the Big Bomb Outfit and the Sword Suit). The cartridge remembers what players you have played with locally and on download play (maybe even non-randos online, not sure for that one). Each time you play with someone new, a specific NPC in town will give you a material that can only be obtained that way consistently (maximum of 15). 2 tunics required it, the Timeless Tunic required 3 and the Tri Suit required 5 (consumed when obtaining them). Arena mode, you had to have the cartridge to play there, no Download Play. Every Link for themselves on 8 arenas themed after the 8 regions of the story mode with various items on the field. This was so much fun. You could also play online, though finding lobbies in this game always was a pain (and now online's dead). There was even a "beginner mode" and an "expert mode" to act as a skill filter. Funnily enough, if you obtained one specific tunic in the game (Sword Master Suit), you were forever banned from the "beginner mode", even if you never played in it before. YOU *CAN* PLAY WITH *2* PLAYERS IN THIS GAME IN THE ARENA. This game was Miiverse compatible (R.I.P. Miiverse, we miss you). There was an entire building dedicated to it. When you went there for the first time after doing certain actions, you'd obtain a camera. You could then take a screenshot at any time by pressing X during your adventure. The screenshot would be saved and you could use them from that building. 1 screenshot per level-try, taking one other would delete the previous one. Obtaining costumes also gave stamps you could use in your Miiverse posts. When you played online, you had to choose the region you wanted to play in before you joined the lobby. The team was only allowed to go in that region afterwards, but it could do absolutely everything there. If you wanted to go elsewhere, you had to leave the lobby and find another one (except if you were with friends). During Local and Download Play, it was all by vote. Region, Level, Challenge (challenge was only pickable for those who had finished the 4th level of the region, but those who didn't could still go depending of the other players' choices). You could choose "Any" and it would randomly change to one of the answers the other players chose for all 3 choices.
Ah, a fellow TFH expert! There's just one minor correction: You only have to choose the region before making the lobby if you've selected random players. If you play with friends, you get to pick a region every round, even if you're playing online.
@@HelpTheWretched Thank you! I never could test that one myself and I've never seen that. I didn't even remember you could specifically go with friends.
There is one minor correction about the material you mentioned that was multiplayer only: After beating the story and having the latest patch, you can buy the material from the Merchant for 2000 rupees a piece. Although it apparently won't always be there?
Its because the modders have some to play with. I only skiped triforce hero cause i only knew 1 other person with a 3ds, so no meaningfull multiplayer for me.
The biggest reason for that was usually the barrier to entry. Like, who puts a ton of effort to create a remastered version of a game only to have it available for only 3 days over the life span of a console? The decision to shuttle gba-transfer cables was also pretty killer in snuffing out sales. With Tri, most people would experience hellish single player or 3 player with randos creating a negative feedback loop that made convincing other people to join you, and even if you managed to convince a *second* player, it was either 3 or nothing. Nintendo really gimped multiplayer Zelda games by shuttling their gimmicks and implementing unreasonable restrictions.
that's because they make multiplayer the gimick, rather than just an addition. they make the gameplay revolve around having 4 players, and so they just make basic plot and gameplay. (at least for a zelda title) with single player zelda games, they make these great narratives and fantastic worlds and awesome dungeons and puzzles. and people wanna do that with their friends. they don't want the short, small gimicks of the multiplayer ones, they want the big adventure but with friends. and more than anything else, they want it to be optional to play multiplayer but not have it be detrimental to do single player, cause playing a zelda multiplayer game without friends makes it harder in my opinion. it's a mix of things that make people not like the multiplayer games but want multiplayer in the other games enough to mod it in. what they need to do is make a normal zelda game but with optional multiplayer, they just can't make it detrimental to NOT have more people. could certainly be challenging but we've seen plenty of other games do it before so it's definitely possible.
One of my favorite things about Triforce Heroes is just the fact that you could play with anyone online and work together to achieve a goal. It was so cool to run around and solve things with other players with a fantastic communication system, and even when people were trolling or being difficult, it was still pretty funny. If anything, I’d argue that Triforce Heroes is more fun to experience with randoms instead of your friends, purely because of how fun yet functional the communication system is
I felt like the communication was perfect. Especially when a group of random people are all in sync. I loved the cheerleading option, as well as the simple pickup and throw options.
I thought it was a blast playing with two other people in the same room, but trying to play online was always a nightmare for me. It took forever for it to find me a team, and then someone would always quit halfway through a level and completely waste all of that time.

One interesting tidbit that I found out from Hyrule Historia is that Nintendo was apparently considering including a co-op mode in Link's Awakening, including a boss that you had to throw your partner on top of (kind of like the rotating thing from Tri Force Heroes).
in 2023, My little sister got a 3DS. Me and my little brother already had a 3DS. We all talked about playing triforce heroes together, we all got the game. @@zachtwilightwindwaker596Some characters in the Zelda series have incredibly long lifespans. Take Niko from Wind Waker, for example, he is still alive in Spirit Tracks or Impa from both SS and BOTW. So, that's not really a reason to rule out the theory, especially considering that only a hundred years pass between A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds.
Tri force heros was my jam, remember me and my sister and another person doing the fierce deity armour trial, after much malding at the difficulty of it, at the end of the trial, like an idiot, kid me threw someone off an edge and we failed....we eventually cleared it again, but lord, good times
I remember having a blast playing online with strangers, It was always fun to pretend to be scared of dark levels and needing to rely on my partners for help, it was just fun being a team in that game.
It's even sadder to think that TriForce Heroes sold so poorly when, actually, it was much more accessible to play with other people than the Four Swords games. It had online multiplayer, which was still completely free on the 3DS. Or, if you had close friends with 3DS, you didn't even need everyone to have their own copy, thanks to the DS Download Play feature. You only needed one copy of the game. Please Nintendo, give us A Link Between Worlds + Triforce Heroes HD for the Switch and/or "Switch 2" 🙇🏻♂️.
Couldn't find anyone else that said it. But AntDude, the Like-Like's actually ARE in the base game of A Link to the Past. They exist only on a single screen in the Dark World. If I recall right, it's one screen to the left of the Pyramid, not one you'd likely go too, but there's a house there where you can buy any shield in the game if you've lost yours and can't get it back.
My siblings and I revisited it last month. Had a good time! The last level of the Luigi's Mansion-themed made us laugh. It can feel pretty one-sided. ;P
17:02 The requirement to unlock the riddle quest isn't beating Four Swords. You unlock the riddle quest by obtaining 10 Medals of Courage (the reward for getting the most rupees at the end of each stage) in Four Swords.
One of the first Zelda games I played was Four Swords Anniversary Edition, and even without getting the references, the realm of memories was always my favorite area of the game, it's so cool! Anything that changes a game's art style and the player's sprite will always make me so happy.
Triforce heroes is one of my favourite games of all time. While I didn't have friends to play with I did manage to do the 128 challenges with randoms. The rush of excitement from how hectic things got to barely eking out a win and trying to get by being an idiot with two other idiots using ridiculous emotes is simply divine
I actually had so much fun spamming emotes in trifoce heroes online. Also the princess in the end admits she kinda likes the jumpsuit, she was just annoyed she couldn't take it off.
I remember grinding Tri Force heroes in single player for cool outfits like the Fierce Deity and Silly ones like the Cheerleader because I had nothing better to do, and you will not understand the pain I would feel when I didn't get the last item I needed because I had picked the wrong chest at the end of a level I had been playing on repeat.
I know many people didn’t really like triforce heroes. But I don’t care that game was genuinely one of my favourite games, I don’t even really know why I just really liked it.
Triforce Heroes was pretty accessible actually. Only one person needed the full game and then the other people you want to play with can download the "Special Demo" and link up. Not anymore, RIP Eshop 😢
Appreciate the video. After playing Echoes of Wisdom, my current dream LoZ game is one where you can play co-op with both Link and Zelda. Maybe they'll give co-op another go? It's been almost ten years since Triforce Heroes. That game was developed by Grezzo.
If you haven't tried Spirit Tracks story mode, that's probably the closest thing at the moment. It's only single-player but there are some dungeons and bosses where you play as both Link and Zelda at the same time, sort of.
I played Tri Force Heroes with some friends a few years ago and it is pretty fun, I'd love a multiplayer collection which is less of a ballache to play with other people some time
As someone who grew up playing spirit tracks on the bus, this actually is strategy. Let me explain, I've been waiting years for this lol. So every so often a powerup spawns on the player in last place. So you just have to bully roll into them. Also the when a phantom sees you, you get a 'phantom eye' put on you. This can actually be placed on another player by running by or rolling into them. So spirit tracks multiplayer encouraged griefing others and bullying last place lol.
Hey I'm playing one of those Link's for GBA Four Swords! Damn, I and three other's got most of that footage for Ant and I didn't even get a shout out! How dare!
4 swords adventures will forever be one of my favorite Zelda games solely based on how incredibly pretty it looks. Those particle effects make it so gorgeous.
my older sister and I played SO much Four Swords Adventures back in the day lol. We're not really on speaking terms right now but it's still a fond memory :)
I loved going on random web forums to play tri force heroes with people online and communcate through texting. It really wasn't too bad matching with strangers online either, but one update to the game split the already shallow pool of people playing online, pretty much making it impossible to find people to play with through the game itself.
4 swords with 5 GameCubes is the purest way to play the game. Fun fact: you would only need 1 gameboy player disc (the expensive part) since after the initial load it runs completely in memory. Saved you like $500 on discs right there
Had to pause after the discussion on FSA... so much nostalgia flooding back. We actually had it, the 4 GBA's, and the link cables back in the day. And funny you mentioned Gems collection, because we had that too! This video makes me happy
An interesting detail with Tri Force Heroes is that there’s actually some unused text talking about paid DLC, so it looks like it was something they were considering before deciding against it for one reason or another.
Tri Force Heroes was honestly so fun back then with friends, i'm sure if it came out around 2020 on the switch when everyone was in their homes it would've had a different success
I honestly still love Four Swords Adventure, even solo. I had so much fun with it as a kid and the bite-size mission structure was helpful for me being a busy high school kid.
For the Four Sword anniversary edition 100% content, I actually got to see it as a kid! plus my brother who actually did most of the leg work to complete it and two cousins that's at least 4 people who actually saw the different styles for the additional levels, I remember liking the Link's awakening style a lot...
13:05 Talus is a slope formed of rock debrits, has nothing to do with the enemy, that got named after the same rock formation as it's a rock monster lol
I absolutly loved the multiplayer of Phantom Hourglass when it first came out. Me and my friends played it all the time and would farm for all the achivments and get really competitiv about it in selfmade lil tournaments.
Tri Force Heros was my first exposure to a zelda game. I luckily had friends to play it with, and we did so before school and during lunch period. I've played other zelda games, but I hold a nostalgia for that one
18:14 in the japanese version there's a rare chance that an entirely new special song will play in the link to the past soundfont in this version of the credits if you've 100% four swords. its probably one of my favourite tracks in the series, genuinely great

I had to rely on online when it came to triforce heroes a lot, seeing as I only really had school friends that didn't always bring their DSes along, and we didn't always had enough time to beat a level sadly. It wasn't ideal, especially when people are fighting over a level and it's always the one you DON'T want, so I never could properly finish this game. But with the time that I DID have, it was indeed quite a solid experience. I really enjoyed it, and it basically was my dream to play a multiplayer zelda game sometime (I didn't really own a gamecube or gameboy advance back then, so this was the best I could have really. I do own a gamecube nowadays though!).

One thing people don't know about TFH is that the music in the game is actually incredible. You know what, scratch that, the whole game was actually really good. Even the Online functionality was good. It's just that nobody wanted to play games online on 3ds except for monster hunter 4 ultimate.
What was mindblowing is that all of Tri Force Heroes is fully playable through download play, and even saves data to the system so that you can continue where you left off next time you play.
back when Tri Force Heroes launched, I ended up playing it with 2 of my friends that I shared a high school class with. Like no joke we marathoned the entire campaign while we were at one of their houses & yeah it's legit fun.

Tri force heros was my jam, remember me and my sister and another person doing the fierce deity armour trial, after much malding at the difficulty of it, at the end of the trial, like an idiot, kid me threw someone off an edge and we failed....we eventually cleared it again, but lord, good times
it was my first zelda game i beat
HE REFERENCED NINTENDO LAND. I STILL PLAY THAT WITH MY FRIENDS. LETS GOOOO
35:08 the side burns and side-parted hair part had a profound impact on the way i styled my hair for years when i read it as a kid
So many times I went from cheering on the other players for succeeding, to yelling out loud about their idiocy, back to cheering them on. Good times.
The emotes are one of the best parts!
I actually grew really attached to Linebeck in Phantom Hourglass.
I actually had so much fun spamming emotes in trifoce heroes online.
Also the princess in the end admits she kinda likes the jumpsuit, she was just annoyed she couldn't take it off.
0:46 that is exactly why I'm here I love the strategy you get out of those games
loved Triforce heroes!
Hope i never have to play it again!
This is why you use the Linebeck outfit.
@@CiromBreeze I may have gotten that at some point but I haven't played the game in so long ago so it's hard to say for certain.
@@CiromBreeze The problem being, you need specific items to get Linebeck's Uniform in the first place.
Sort of fascinating knowing just how many times Nintendo tried to make multiplayer Zelda
I know many people didn’t really like triforce heroes. But I don’t care that game was genuinely one of my favourite games, I don’t even really know why I just really liked it.
1:40 FINALLY someone is giving Nintendoland the respect it deserves
Triforce Heroes was pretty accessible actually. Only one person needed the full game and then the other people you want to play with can download the "Special Demo" and link up. Not anymore, RIP Eshop 😢
The other players don't even need to get the eShop demo! There's a Download Play mode where the game sends a demo copy of itself to the other players.
@HelpTheWretched You're right! Completely forgot about download play 🤣
Appreciate the video.
After playing Echoes of Wisdom, my current dream LoZ game is one where you can play co-op with both Link and Zelda.
Maybe they'll give co-op another go? It's been almost ten years since Triforce Heroes. That game was developed by Grezzo.
Oh that would be cool! But please god no more of that art style
EoW is a good setup for that idea! I'd play it, for sure.
If you haven't tried Spirit Tracks story mode, that's probably the closest thing at the moment. It's only single-player but there are some dungeons and bosses where you play as both Link and Zelda at the same time, sort of.
Triforce Heroes re-releasing on switch or the successor to the switch would be the best thing to ever happen to this world, mark my words
Beating Tri-Force Heroes solo is one of my proudest gaming accomplishments.
I played and loved Triforce Heroes, even if I played alone. I love all the little Easter Egg scattered throughout the hub world.
You could say: "it's dangerous to go alone, so bring some friends!"
How dare!
Four Swords Adventures on GameCube is a masterpiece!
It really wasn't too bad matching with strangers online either, but one update to the game split the already shallow pool of people playing online, pretty much making it impossible to find people to play with through the game itself.
the ambassador program four swords anniversary edition was how I got to experience the game and it was so fun.
I wanna bring up that since the suit is unremovable, Styla can’t go to the bathroom or wash herself.
I bought Sonic Gems Collection for Sonic R…still play it to this day. *NO REGRETS*
triforce heroes is my 2° favorite zelda game, had tons of fun with that one
Second favorite?
@@Turbos-b3z botw being first
3:45 I always thought gramps was actually the hero from ALttP… I have no evidence to support this idea, just a fun headcanon
He totally is Link from ALttP
It’s news to me hearing FSA sold under a million copies. It was the basis for my favourite Zelda Newgrounds series.
34:13 YO-KAI WATCH MENTIONED IN A POSITIVE LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Triforce heroes was actuslly one of my favorite games i used to love playing it and i loved all the easter eggs
The Bomberman Hero music made me watch the entire sponsor section
18:14 in the japanese version there's a rare chance that an entirely new special song will play in the link to the past soundfont in this version of the credits if you've 100% four swords. its probably one of my favourite tracks in the series, genuinely great
I was having a really bad day today and decided to watch some youtube to calm myself down a little,
Imagine my surprise when I saw that there was a new antdude video! I really needed this today❤ thank you❤
I had to rely on online when it came to triforce heroes a lot, seeing as I only really had school friends that didn't always bring their DSes along, and we didn't always had enough time to beat a level sadly.
Sooooo...the real multiplayer Zelda was the friends we made along the way?
Spirit Tracks' multiplayer also uses the Link theme from Twilight Princess, you know the one, the thing that plays when an enemy is downed the 🎵➡️↘️⬇️⬇️↘️➡️⬆️➡️↘️⬇️⬇️↘️⬆️➡️↘️↘️⬇️➡️↘️↘️⬇️➡️↘️↘️⬇️
Triforce Heroes is goated and I will die on that hill
Tell us when so we can livestream the event.
Why have Skull Kid in Smash when The Lady is right there?
The realm of memories was actually my intro to each of the games it covered. So I'm glad it exists even just for that.
"people yearn for Sonic R"
i've just realized how much the perspective changed for that game now, like it used to be absolutely shat on and made fun of in every corner of the planet lmao
Nostalgia is a ridiculous drug.
AntDude finally remember the password on this channel
anyway amazing video ant 45.55 minutes
There's actually mods for the 2 DS Zelda games that give you proper D-pad controls. Whether or not they work in multiplayer, idk, but it feels so much better
Fun fact about Navi Trackers: You can unlock 2 more Hosts in it, one of which is the King of Red Lions and the other is the lady with a pot on her head from Outset Island.
I remember playing so much of Spirit Tracks' and Phantom Hourglass's competitive multiplayer games with my brothers.
I remember just loving the heck outta Tri Force Heroes on my 18th birthday. I played the heck outta it too making it my second most played game on my 3ds next to KH-3DDD
I'm so sad Tri Force Heroes didn't do well, I had SO much fun with that game. The costumes were so much fun.
One thing people don't know about TFH is that the music in the game is actually incredible. You know what, scratch that, the whole game was actually really good. Even the Online functionality was good. It's just that nobody wanted to play games online on 3ds except for monster hunter 4 ultimate.
I litirally still have an ambassador 3ds in my home and i still had absolutely no clue about that dsiware zelda lmao
So, thats why they call them Link Cables
Nintendo should give a Tri Force Heroes HD free for online subscribers
Is that Mr waffle himself 21:11
And the people that made the pedal pun are making a new one Call ratatan
What was mindblowing is that all of Tri Force Heroes is fully playable through download play, and even saves data to the system so that you can continue where you left off next time you play.
Promotion Skip Button: 6:33
45:42 “So, at the end of the day… the Legend of Zelda…” Gotta love that abrupt ending. XD
Eyo, multiplayer warriors games is an experience everyone should have at least once
I got every single achievement in Tri Force Heroes using online multi-player only!
back when Tri Force Heroes launched, I ended up playing it with 2 of my friends that I shared a high school class with. Like no joke we marathoned the entire campaign while we were at one of their houses & yeah it's legit fun.
Idk if its just me, but the nostalgia i have for Four Swords Anniversary is unmatched. I spent hours replaying this as a kid simply for the fact that it was a free game that I didn't have to beg my parents for
I didn’t know enough about Zelda to appreciate those four swords throwback levels when it came out.
Four Swords Anniversary Edition was my very first Zelda game, it continues to be one of my favorites. I only played it single player and had so much fun
PHANTOM HOURGLASS AND SPIRIT TRACKS CONTROL REALLY WELL, how are you even getting your hand in the way?
ANTDUDE COVERING ONE OF MY FAVORITE NICHES LETS GOOOOO
Dude. Blue Mario is Regular Giuseppe and he doesn’t like hanging out in the Mushroom Kingdom with his bros. Everyone knows that.
Four Swords AE was my first Zelda experience. I remember I got a DSI for my birthday, which just happened to be in the period it was free. I don't look back on it fondly, but it was my first delve into the series.
