They also knew MAsterson did it, he admitted to scientology that he did.
@@drankydrank1 Masterson and all 3 survivors were members of the church of scientology. Scientologists don't trust government bodies and heavily discourage law enforcement getting involved. They have their own internal process to report crimes and transgressions. The women reported the assaults to a Scientology Ethics Officer. Because Masterson was a contributing member in "good standing" and a pretty big career, Scientology covered for him. He paid one of the victims 400k in restitution along with paying money to Scientology to provide classes to help should that woman's child ever have any emotional impact from the assault. There are also letters from one of the survivors mother's to the current "head" of Scientology asking for justice for her daughter. Scientologists also have fairly routine sessions to help them " get clear" that are almost like confessionals in some regards ---- and from what I gather --- masterson confessed to doing it on those. So yeah - it happened - just scientology was covering for him because it's bad press and they don't want their image being muddied.
They don't make themselves do that lol, they just don't have a huge team on standby to make these videos to do their make up. It may be in part them trying to look more relatable, but I imagine a lot of it is just this is how they normally look before they go under the brush for 4 hours.
@@soloholo4953 If Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis did the right thing much earlier, they would at least accept that Danny Masterson is no longer their friend. I hate to say this, but I need to say it. Especially if Danny Masterson's r*pe victims _were_ his friends before they became his victims. April 18, 2024, 9:23am
I mean they were asked to write what THEIR experience were with him. I mean its is the judges job to give out a fair sentence and it is their job to tell the truth. I don't like the idea of mobbing on people for telling their experience with just because they did something bad. Someone doing one thing bad does not mean everything he did was bad. I think the judge knows what he did and he was checking about the risk and the tendency of this happening and how obvious it was. If people want rapists to get lifetime sentences then i am down but it is cringe to get mad at someone for literally telling their relationship with someone else.
I REFUSE to acknowledge that this is an apology video if they're not playing the ukulele. Colleen Ballinger has set the bar so high for a proper apology videos and it should be the new standard for another to come.
True. If a wacky instrument is not involved, it doesnt count. Some variety would be great to see too, maybe someone will break out the banjo or even a didgeridoo
Yeah the horrible one that happened in France where she was basically impaled with a broomstick got 180 days, insane... but i would say thats because of politics because its a refugee that did it
I wonder if the judge was a victim or have dealt with multiple rape cases, cause she even pointed out how people are blind to the offender's nice side and use it to determine if the incident really happened.
I mean maybe but at the same time sometimes the apology isn't about how good it will make you look its just you renouncing your previous views and saying that I was wrong and I don't want to advocate for this in the world. If no one ever apologized for anything fucked up they did in any kind of public way I think that would send a super fucked up messaged. I'd definitely rather be in a world where people put out sucky insincere apologies that at least convey the idea X behavior ISNT okay.
i don't think it's the fact that they're apologizing but the fact that their "apologies" are usually made to downplay what they did instead of owning up to it
@@Zack-vi7isyeah but it doesn't matter how sincere it is, people will always call it insincere or a bad apology. There's almost never been a time when people took an apology seriously. If I was famous I'd never apologize, because I know no one would care and would rip me apart anyways.
Right?! That is why it bothers me so much when people defend Ashton and Mila for writing those letters claiming they were just doing it to defend their friend and that they had no idea he was evil blah blah. If they REALLY believed he was innocent and wrongly convicted, and were totally oblivious to his dark side, then they wouldn’t have been so concerned over the fact that the public saw the letters. The fact that they admitted they thought the letters would be confidential shows that they’re well aware that what Danny did was wrong, as is their support of him. Otherwise, the confidentiality (or lack thereof) of the letters would not have even been a concern of theirs at all. So yeah, I agree; they aren’t sorry they wrote the letters. They’re sorry the public has now seen their true colors, finally.
They definitely should've hired someone to write this statement for them. The fact that Ashton emphasized that it was supposed to be for the judges eyes only shows that they knew this was a dirty move
Dirty move or not i dont agree with anything they said or did but one has to wonder why the statement and letter to the judge was made public in the first place. Since you have the right to disclose this freely with the Judge. So either someone paid a big sum to the Judge or it was accidently released.
@@MichaSennin in the US character references in a trial are public record unless the judge decides to seal them for a specific reason, but it’s rare for them to be sealed. The letters are also provided to the defendants legal team so they could’ve released them to influence public sentiment.
I misunderstood and thought at first that they had sent these letters while the trial was ongoing. The fact that they did this after the conviction makes it horrifying.
Seems like he was convicted without third party witnesses or any concrete evidence. They most likely think he could be innocent, and 30 years in prison for alleged crimes 20 years ago without any substantial proof is kind of scary to be honest...

I just find it crazy that Ashton especially agreed to writing a letter to character for Masterson since he founded an organization to fight human trafficking and help victims, and all of a sudden that just goes out the window because your old buddy got caught??
It seemed very general and wrote with coaching from a lawyer. It likely was more for the family than it was for him. They could also believe that people can change and get help. 30 years is a life sentence.
@@pineablesodathis should really be said more. Charlie's whole take on this is kind of bad. Their letters are only an issue if they knew what he was doing, otherwise all they can do is state what they thought of him. The entire point of character references is that they are based on impressions of the person before being accused. They aren't being asked, "the accused hasn't been tried yet but what would you think of him if he was found guilty?"

Drew Gooden made a skit a while back where a character walks in on his friend strangling a person to death and refuses to believe his friend could strangle someone because hes never been strangled by him. I feel like it applies here a bit.
That's called being human. We're horribly flawed, self-contradicting beings who too often choose to believe what we want, rather than what actually is.
So I actually have a childhood friend who ended up murdering a women in cold blood. In my experience it's hard to separate the person you knew vs the person they became. It feels super weird and tbh while I disagree with thier statements I can understand it. It's tough to separate once your in that situation where someone you respected turns out to do something terrible. Just giving another perspective
I can understand and respect that. I kinda feel like people who know/care about someone convicted of serious crimes like rape/murder are kind of victims of the lies the perpetrator told. The perpetrator put forward the idea that they were a good person and wouldn't be capable of it. So to find out that they were in fact capable of that and they did it can be a bit of a mindf*ck. That being said, I'm not defending Mila or Ashton. It's one thing to feel conflicted about how a friend of yours turns out to be a predator, it's another thing to try and defend them. It's callous to the victims. Full stop.
@khaleesireyna731 Yea good point I get that. I'm not defending them either but unless you've been in that situation it's just weird to get around you know. They made a mistake but that doesn't make them terrible people imo
Dude what. I had one best friend turn out to be a groomer and im still absolutely emotionally devastated but hell i surely did called him out i surely got police involved. You can absolutely separate good experiences with the pains of others it just takes a shitton of emotional maturity which most people don't have in this specific realm of events. X.x
This is correct, an ex childhood best friend of mine (we knew each other when I was one and he was only a few months older than me) has fallen into crime in the ripe old age of 16. He has done so much shit, but the worst thing he's done is break into a house with a gang of friends, and then stab the homeowner with a machete. The homeowner didn't die nor have any permanent injuries apart from scarring to my knowledge, but it feels so ghostly to remember the worst 'crimes' he used to commit was trying to pressure me into saying what he was going to get for his birthday. It feels so strange that he was once so funny and close to me, but know I avoid him like the plague. I understand being in denial that a frined may have done something like that, but defending your friend (aimed at ashton and mila, not you) when there is cold hard solid proof of them committing the crime is unforgivable imo
One of my best friends of 15 years was accused of rape and he told all of us that he had sex with a girl that had a boyfriend and they got caught by the boyfriend so she accused him of rape because she got caught cheating. I knew him for 15 years and he was a great dude, i wrote a character letter for my friend because I believed him the person that I didnt think would be capable of something like that. Turns out it was true and he was convicted. I had never been more disgusted with myself for writing that letter and for awhile I was very upset with myself but I have since come to terms that I was tricked by someone I trusted and that the blame wasnt on myself. It still was a very difficult situation and even know I still feel bad about it.
Thanks for sharing the story, really harsh. My ex wife was very very verbally and physically abusive and one day I had enough and defending myself by holding her back from kicking me in the nuts. She then went on Twitter and told everyone we both knew (including my family) that I beat her. To this day some of my old friends still think I am a wife beater, only a few people that really knew me came forward and defended me. Long story short you did the right thing, even if you were wrong. More times people lie then tell the truth on these situations, glad you tried to fight for what you thought was true even though it wasn’t. The guilt would have been much worse if your friend was innocent and you did nothing.
@@LuciferosDad I hope you're doing well. I HEAVILY disagree that "more times people lie than tell the truth on these situations" unless you're also talking about the accused lying as well. it’s so weird, ashton and mila are both very involved with helping sexual abuse victims and children and trafficked people . for them to do this is so odd.
Important context: The letters were written in late July of 2023, and the guilty verdict was given in May. They absolutely had heard the testimony and evidence from the trial at that point, in fact there had been a previous mistrial in november 2022. Kutcher has done some incredible work advocating for sex-traffic victims, it's incredibly saddening to see him act this way in regard to victims of sexual assault. It should not matter that he had a personal connection to the assailant, in fact that should be more reason to not involve himself at all.
Look into the statistics of his organization. They overinflate the number of people they’ve helped by thousands. Sure, they do some good work but they’re also super shady about how they report stuff.
The craziest thing to me about their letters is that he was found guilty of drugging these women to r*pe them and they both thank him for being a sobriety influence on them. It's so out of touch, especially for people who allegedly were in the business of helping victims.
He was found guilty for rape. He didn’t drug the women, as they claimed despite toxicology reports saying otherwise. Dude committed rape, you don’t have to embellish it with falsehoods, it’s still terrible
I hate that character letters/statements are even a thing in court for these type of cases. Just because someone doesn’t behave in a gross monstrous way around their friends/colleagues doesn’t take from their gross, monstrous behaviors with their victims. As I’ve heard it put: ‘That’s some object-permanence peekaboo BS’ on the friends/courts’ behalf.
@@Ram-zc4fi if you need sex Ed class to tell you that you need consent before having sex with someone then you have issues and are pretty disgusting. You don’t “accidentally” r@pe or assault someone. You’re not a “good guy” who made a mistake, you intentionally assaulted someone.
@@Ram-zc4fi Imo sex ed is kind of unnuanced when it comes to consent and the real world. E.g. some women really don't want men to explicitly ask for consent and like men to 'lead' and 'take charge' (though it's probably a good idea to ask) and that can be confusing for men. It's also kind of bizarre to accept that adults are incapable of communicating that they don't want to do something sexual in the context of being physically intimate w/ someone and that person trying to escalate things. At the end of the day the kind of 'knowledge' about consent in sex ed isn't factual, it's a prescription. And prescriptive 'knowledge' is a completely different category of knowledge than facts. And imo it's odd for a school class to be based around giving prescriptions (or strictly defining colloquial terms), outside of maybe a philosophy class. (and even there prescriptions are presented as the ideas of certain people, the university usually isn't explicitly endorsing a specific prescription)
Well it’s part of a defendant’s fundamental right to a trial. The defendant has a right to provide any exculpatory evidence, and even in sentencing the defendant has a right to provide any mitigating evidence or anything else that would possibly help their case. It seems pretty gross in this case and similar ones, true, but to suggest that such statements shouldn’t exist is very dangerous for a fair judicial system.
@@sub-harmonikI don't think it’s so bizarre. Consent is not always verbal, but people’s wants can easily change. It’d be just easier to ask verbally. And you're right, people should be given better education on the workings of what consent is, and how to recognise and confirm it. It’s pretty easy not to rape people, it’s one of the only crimes which have no logical reason other than causing physical harm to another being for one’s own benefit.
I had no idea who Charlie was a few months ago, one of his videos came across my UA-cam feed and I decided to watch. About 15 years ago my mother had a knock on the door from one of my school friends mother, she asked my mother if she would be willing to give a character reference for her two eldest sons (who were in their late 20s at the time). My mother agreed and wrote out the statement shining a positive light on the them before asking what the crime was (she thought it was brawling or some kind of driving offence). After doing some digging she found out that they had recently been convicted of multiple sexual offences including multiple rapes of underage girls, forced abortion, gang rape, threats to kill, forcing their victims to take heroin, child trafficking, facilitating child prostitution... My mother instantly withdrew her statement and was really shaken up by the whole thing. The men and their 4 accomplices all received life sentences and my old school friends mother still holds it against my family until this day, instead of being angry with her child rapist sons she is angry with my family for refusing to speak highly of her wicked sons.
It's also scary how Ashton said in his letter that he would trust the rapist to babysit his kids... Edit: I also just remembered how both Ashton and Mila were reinforcing the fact that dude was "anti-drugs", when part of the accusation is that he'd drug his victims to take advantage of them
Did you know there is literally zero proof that happened? There was no urine sample, no blood test, nothing. The prosecution literally had nothing to corroborate that claim. Just the words of those two women. That's called hear-say. And they waited 15 years...Come on, that's fishy af. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if he was framed.
Well remembering how Ashton left his girlfriend to naked and stabbed to death on the floor of her apartment back in 2001, this tracks for Ashton Kutcher's bad decisions (I'm referring to the Hollywood Ripper case). I'm happy Demi Moore managed to escape this bozo's clutches.
Yeah, the fact that Ashton says he trusts Danny alone with his kids is extremely terrifying and concerning. I’m not sure how that statement alone doesn’t have Child Protective Services knocking on his door.
Almost the entire That 70's Show cast got involved in Scientology. It seems that part of the reason he wasn't even arrested for so many years was because the church tried as much as they could to cover it up
"almost the entire cast" feels like a big stretch: these two by proxy, Masterson and Laura Prepon (Donna). Never heard a single thing about anybody else's involvement.
As someone who was good friends with and defended someone accused of SA before finding out that they actually DID commit the crimes they were accused of, this is NOT how you apologize or take ownership of that shit. A really good (former) friend of mine in high school sexually harassed the girls in our friend group (d**kpics and whatnot), but for some reason it took a while for them to say anything. I just overheard them speaking about it, and when I found out, I encouraged everyone to take action. We found out that he had done it before in his previous school, and I just couldn’t believe how we got along so well before. It outright disgusted me even more than before. Because most of us were minors, including him, we couldn’t do anything more than report him to the school authorities. We presented what we had, and we even contacted the girl he had harassed years ago to testify. His parents just put the very shitty excuse that he was “on meds”, and we all knew it wasn’t true. But it was our word (minors) vs theirs, so the school did absolutely fucking nothing about it. We then passed to the next grade (including him), to different groups. He even made new friends like nothing was wrong. 6 years later I’m still holding a huge grudge against him. I still feel really frustrated that nothing was done about it. We all just could stand there, in frustration that nothing was ever done. There was nothing else we could do. I fucking hate it.
fun fact, danny bet ashton $10 to french kiss (with tongue) mila on the show as their first kiss. ashton was 20 , danny was 22 and mila was 14. he took the bet. the writers had her kiss every male actor on the show while she was underage. this was all admitted on a rosie o'donnel interview and another interview. that cast and crew was full of vile behavior and individuals. also, topher grace was the only one that cut all ties with everyone after the show saying they were all toxic and refused to write a letter for danny.
Gotta love how they don’t specifically say they feel bad for the victims of Danny Masterson, they say “their hearts go out to all the people who have been victims of sexual assault”. I fully believe they don’t think Danny Masterson did it.
Realistically, they don't have to believe it. They should be more empathetic, even just to save their career but no one can force them to believe it, we can just hope they see evidence at the trial
Especially with the type of work that Kutcher does with rescuing sex trafficking victims, I’m absolutely baffled as to how he and Mila Kunis could do that. What an awful and completely boneheaded thing to do. The apology was so robotic and weak, too. 🤦♂️
Usually Character letters are before the trial, so there is a very likely chance they wrote these before he was convicted and thought better of him. Stil completely understand the outrage though.
This is why I hate Charlie. Charlie twists everything, saying that they did this to give him a lighter sentence which is not true at all, they did it because they originally thought he was innocent and was written 2 months prior to the conviction. Which is understandable because in this day and age false accusations are made a lot. Ashton literally works to free child slaves from prostitution rings, why would he support any rapist?! That's not what happened though. Character references are needed for trials to be fair because juries have a habit of assuming the defendant is guilty before being presented any evidence when it's supposed to be the opposite. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis could only go off of what they personally experienced.
It’s so sad that Ashton literally made a personality out of helping kids out of sex trafficking and then turns around and takes up for a rapist like this isn’t the exact type of people he helps get put behind bars. I'm SO glad that you covered this. It's such a strange and disturbing line of thought. Imagine fifty people submitting letters at Ted Bundy's trial asking for leniency because he worked at a rape crisis clinic. I have to say, their "compassion" for victims rings pretty hollow now. Making a martyr of Danny Masterson is in no way helpful to them. I feel so sorry for the actual victims of this case. They were betrayed by EVERYONE, before and after the fact. I'm glad to know that their justice has been received at last.
I hate to be this person, but he actually volunteered for a suicide hotline call center, not rape crisis. But yes, your point still stands, and I agree with you. This is really fucked up.
@MelissaLawrence2002 Oh, my bad. I've heard both. Apparently he also wrote a "rape prevention" pamphlet and helped draft the new hitchhiker laws in Washington. I just can't imagine fifty people campaigning for leniency in his favor. It's interesting, too. Bundy framed himself as very anti-rape, and Masterson framed himself as being very anti-drug use.
@@pollyc.1957 you're totally fine, don't sweat it, my friend. I agree, that it's an absolutely absurd situation, and your comparison really puts it into perspective for those who may side with Masterson.
You clearly didn't watch the ted bundy trial, the judge actually praised bundy! Said all sort of nice things about him, even said that he wished they would've worked together in the courtroom. It's the craziest thing I ever seen!
This is why a jury exists; the clouded judgements of loved ones cannot or shouldn't be allowed to sway justice. They may have had a good relationship with him- but defending him even years after working together for crimes they have no witness in- their opinion of him does not matter compared to the crime. Someone can be a seemingly great person to 80% of others while the targeted few are harmed through SA or Murder. It feels like how people talked about Ted Bundy (in a way) how they respected him even with his unsettling actions. How Brock Turner's parents wrote letters defending him because 'he has potential' and tbh, a family member of mine was arrested a while back for being an S.O. and their parent wrote a boohoo letter. It's all denial, and I can understand there's levels of shock and disbelief to it...but like, clouded opinions can easily sweep away the victims' experiences. Not cool.
I assume Danny is guilty as sin, but I don't fault his family and friends for supporting him if they have doubts. A certain percentage of American prisoners were wrongly convicted, correct? I haven't followed any scientific studies on the matter, but statistically the number *must* be above 0%. So it's simply not true that because a jury has convicted someone beyond a reasonable doubt that there's no chance they've been wrongly convicted. There must be families and friends attached to these people that have advocated for them, yes? Let's say hypothetically you were convicted in a criminal court, beyond a reasonable doubt, for rapes you didn't commit, you would hope your loved ones immediately turned their backs on you as soon as the judge's gavel slammed down?
@@taylortaylor6845I also can't find it, it seems like just the victims accounts? Kinda strange he got 30 years with that little proof, but if he's guilty he deserves it
jury is very flawed because they’re human.. jury can be swayed by the courts, and out of the courts ( floyd being a good example.. chauvin was convicted because the jury was terrified of the public.. who were harrassing sending threats, etc.. same with the Murdoch trail.. which more evidence reveal the court reporter was manipulating the jury, a lot of corruption.. in order to get a 100% gulty verdict.. There there I s the trial of the black guy that killed over 50+ seniors in a senior home.. one lady was an activist ( the prosecution deliberately wanted her on the jury).. and refused to go guilty even tho all the evidence was there.. because - he’s black.. she won’t convict a black guy.. her stubbornness and holding the jury hostage got him not guilty - and those fmaily members 0 justice.. Jury is severely flawed.. which is why jury selection is so crucial in winning for either they defense of prosecution.. it very rare you get a 1000% impartial jury.. very very rare.. especially high profile cases. As someone that knows people in the justice system.. it’s all a game.. thats the problem.. the justice system is highly flawed.. but its the best one you have in the world because you ‘ judged by your peers’ and everyone is presumed innocent until PROven guilty. Sadly that is kinda changing these days wher you’re guilty and need to prove innocence . Everything is calculated.. having media there.. they know can sway opinions, public knows threatening the jury case sway verdicts.. ( aka.. antifa threatening the jury including the lawyer saying she will hunt the jury down if they don’t give a not guilty verdict.. its f up) This is why, trials and good judges tend NOT to allow layers play the emotion card ( made very famous by johnny Cochran).. and stick to the facts. Evidence is key.. which is also why you want an impartial jury who has 0 interest or knowledge in a case. The problem now, especially in she said he said is there is basically no evidence. So it’s story telling.. can you convince the jury ? Yes there is denial.. but there is also a point where you don’t have enough to convince someone.. If you told me that dog stole the cookie.. ok.. give me evidence.. you show me a broken jar.. doesn’t prove the dog did it.. it could have been the cat.. so you need more and more evidence.. so yes, in cases were all the evidence is there everything.. even the killer smiling and selfies.. thats denial.. But when there is plausible innocence.. it’s not really denial.. it’s you haven’t proven beyond reasonable doubt they did it.. which is why she said he said verdicts are some of the worst.. and usually wrong verdict.. its who can tell a better story. I don’ t know anything about this case.. but from what I read in teh comments, this is a very he said she said case.. with barely any evidence. So there is even 1% he’s innocent.. thats not beyond reasonable doubt. So i don’t agree that family and friends defending someone they believe in are fools.. or idiots.. If hes guilty, he’s very good a manipulating, his friends and family are weak but good people.. My friend was accused of r…because some guys were jealous of him.. so they wanted to get back at him.. i nkow him… he wans’t even there.. he doesn’t even live in that area or country.. of course i believed him.. and turns out yes.. he was being metoo’d by a bunch of guys jealous of him.. all the evidence was he never even been to that location, doesn’t live there.. doesn’t kow anyone there.. no proof.. But if this happened now.. people would say he’s guilty.. and we need 0 evidence.. that is me too.
@gasstationpeanuts1814 true, but it still can be a bit dicey when you have to question how many are blindly defending them vs how many are honest. If they were witnesses and around during the time of the crime, their words could feel very defensive and ignorant. Granted this is only one view of a large case and I wish there was more focus on the evidence instead of testimonials but it comes together. Plenty of innocent people are charged even with positive and honest testimonials. The system of court dates, appealing, bond payments, and extremely long waits are one of the main issues in the justice system often based on privatized prison gain and such. The jury is the important key to an at least logical approach to a presented crime. Putting compliments in front of DNA samples is what I've seen and worried about. Too many 🍇ers and SO are left off the hook and this isn't one of them so seeing two figure heads seemingly defend the criminal in a very nonchalant and happy way is what's upsetting. They could've been 'when we interacted with him he seemed good. We would've never expected this of him sort of talk. I do think a lot of celebrity court trials have too much press to a degree and it's possible they thought it'd be private testimonials but nothing can be private for them anymore. Which does suck for them.

I’m curious what Charlie’s opinion on the Topher Grace controversy is. It’s interesting that, during the filming of That 70’s Show, the cast blacklisted and shunned Topher for not wanting to hangout with them or befriend them and tried to drag his name for years. Now, all of those same actors are being dragged for supporting Masterson while Topher is just chilling lol.
While it was important for them to apologize for supporting a deplorable person, it is common for judges to request letters from people before sentencing. This is done so judges can evaluate someone via a list of factors to determine punishment/time. Source: I was an intern for a federal judge -I’ve seen them read comments from letters when discussing sentencing, and I’m a 3L.
legal procedure shouldn’t cloud the morals of those involved. just because people had the option to support a rapist doesn’t mean they should have supported them
Also are we forgetting "innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt"? When they were asked for character letters he was still "innocent" in the eyes of the law because his crimes had not been proven in a court of law yet. So writing a character statement for your friend who is being accused of being a rapist before ANY of the evidence has come to light doesn't seem nearly as scummy as Charlie is making it out to be. If they had stuck with those charcter statements after the trial however...
Anybody with google can find what you just wrote 🤣 at the end of the day, it’s close people willing to vouch for the accused. I’m sure you understand with case law, things are highly scrutinized usually public information. These celebs knew their names would be attached to this, this is literally nothing new
This sounds like a version of "Well he might have stabbed someone 40 times, but he always said hello to me when we crossed in the stairs, so he isn't all bad". We are not sentencing him based on whether or not he was a good person, we are sentencing him based on whether or not he did bad things.
In the end all the letters were irrelevant as they had nothing to do with rape, they were basically pleading for him to get off with a couple years in prison
When are people going to learn that just because someone does good things and is a good friend to you does not mean they are incapable of doing bad things to others?
No friendship or amount of brotherhood excuses or forgives a terrible victimizing act like rape. As a friend the most you can do is acknowledge their wrongdoing and pray for them. Even reaching out to the victims and apologizing to them and giving them your support, if they knew him so well they could do right trying to rectify and help those who Danny victimized.
Brother, you're naive as fuck if you think all those celebrities wrote those letters because they genuinely thought the guy is a good guy. They did that cause everyone in Hollywood has their backs and are coordinated. It's solidarity for evil. They didn't write those letters on their own initiative, they were told to in order to protect that guy.
Ashton will never learn that. This situation reminds me of when he publicly defended Ellen Degeneres after a bunch of her employees went public about how badly she treated them.
And how they just "generalized" victims. The apology should have been directly to DANNY'S victims - those were the victims traumatized by their disgusting letters.
“We have “historically” been “researching” (AKA WATCHING) CP to protect victims” -the woman married to a man who met her at 14, yeah not sketchy at all. 😊
I don’t care how much good you’ve done, if you fuck up this monumentally and support the very thing you swore to destroy (it’s still rape, doesn’t matter if the victims weren’t kids) then you are gonna be held accountable. That’s the way it works, and these rich scum think they’re above everyone else and should get away with shit that poor people can’t. I hope more and more people start realizing how shitty most of the 1% are and stop idolizing them. Everyone is capable of evil regardless of class, but the rich public figures are capable of so much worse due to their perceived power and influence. They need a reality check. Every motherfuckin one of them.

Not so fun fact, over 40 celebrities including Wes Anderson, Harrison Ford, Natalie Portman, and more signed a letter calling for the release of Roman Polanski after he was arrested in Zurich. Remember he’s still free today and just released a movie to a 3 minute standing ovation.
At least he cannot step on US soil. Polanski is also the reason why Adele Haenel quit acting at the height of her career. She was fed up with predators who dominate European cinema as well.

I feel like there's an easy way to apologize for this. Just say that he used to be a close friend, and that deeply clouded your judgment and made you not want to believe that he did the things he's been convicted of. People won't forgive you for that, but it'll be honest and a lot of people will at least be more understanding. Or go the celebrity apology route and try to make excuses for yourself.
This. Just say "Our judgement was clouded. Between his family asking for our help, and us wanting to help the friend we thought he was, we did something heinous. We're sorry." There. It's not good, but it's way, way more understandable.
Thing is that wouldn't have been honest. If they were honest they'd have to admit they didn't care enough about the victims to want their friend behind bars.
I know, the whole “that wasn’t our intention” or “we didn’t mean to” is such a cop out. Might as well not say anything about it if your not going to own up to what u did and take accountability.
@@Zack-vi7is A letter isn't going to stop him from going behind bars, and obviously didn't. He still got a very serious penalty, and they probably knew that was still going to happen. People act like they were trying to help him completely escape consequences.
He wasn’t even accused, the letters were after he was CONVICTED, the letters were there so he could get a lighter sentence after he was shown to be guilty
This really hurts their credibility when it comes to fighting against the things they do, if they really cared about what they are fighting for why did they so quickly support someone who was proven guilty.
The best way for me to explain would be that the people they fight against outside this case are strangers, thus it's easier to persecute people they don't know rather than someone they are close with (in this case, Danny). Shouldn't be like that though, yeah
If they actually believe he is innocent after hearing the evidence then it's not morally wrong for them to advocate on his behalf. He seems very guilty from what evidence I've seen, but I don't think a guilty verdict in an American criminal court is a magical 100% unassailable, unquestionable edict handed down from the heavens.

You're right, I experienced this when a friend was arrested for CP... Even if they're your best friend, normal people would feel disgusted & BETRAYED, not a need to help them get a lesser sentence! I was upset that I never suspected anything. I was embarrassed that he was calling me & friends from jail wanting to "just talk." I felt sorry for his family. And most of all, I was upset for the victims, especially as I learned more details... Even as a great friend to me, I would NEVER write a letter on his behalf. A friend of mine had this happen when she found out through the court that her home girl was involved in a homicide against her ex-BF. I'll skip some details, but she initially showed up in defense as her friend tried to manipulate her into thinking that she did it in self defense. As the court process went on, more and more details were revealed, such as text messages, bullet trajectory etc. My friend started to wonder how long has her friend been manipulating their friendship; feelings of disgust and betrayal sink in and it was pretty ugly.

Worth the time and would make an incredible video.

@@Amused_Comfort_Inche’s actually not. Ashton’s letter said at the very end “Well I’m aware the jury has found him guilty of two counts of rape” meaning this was written after he was proven guilty
@@Amused_Comfort_Incno he's not. They had the resources to find out what the trial was about beforehand unlike the everyday person who might not know what the trial is about but proceeded to defend their very likely guilty friend. Not only that but Topher Grace who didn't deny being a friend to Danny still didn't write a letter like they did. And he explained why way back in 2018 as he didn't want to come across as defending the accused's actions. If Topher knew about the proceedings and what he was being accused of then surely Ashton and Mila could have found out. They could have said something similar that while Danny was a good friend to them, they would not try to influence the judge's sentencing decision so as not to be seen as defending his assault on these women.
I mean, one would hope, if those letters are considered public record, they would _always_ be presented with the disclaimer of "this letter was written before the trial and thus may not reflect the writer's current opinions". Not that the internet cares to make that distinction. Evidently it's inconceivable that someone may have at some point been on good terms with a monster without knowing they were a monster.

While they may not have known about the situation at the time it was happening back then, the fact these things came up in court, proved as factual, and then just prior to sentencing a letter of character was written to try to soften the blow of the punishment… Ashton and Mila had a very important opportunity to stay as far away from this case as possible, and not only did they choose to get involved, they chose the WORST WAY to get tied to this - by defending a convicted rapist. That is… basically as bad as being the rapist themselves. That was definitely avoidable and they PICKED IT on purpose.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they actually were forced to write these by the Scientology crew… considering the involvement they’ve had in this case I think it’s likely they were threatened with social repercussions unless they wrote those letters
Yep. I had a friend of over 20 years that I dropped like a bad habit when they were brought up on charges of touching 3 little girls. With having like stories, no matter what I thought of him, I couldn't ignore that he almost guaranteed did the acts he was accused of. It was sad to do, but I don't want to associate with anyone that would do things like that.
Your friend was 99% likely to have been molested and traumatized as a child. This kind of sentiment you have makes it impossible to seek proper help and understanding, thus leading to them acting out on these disturbed attractions. I read a bit on all the legal material surrounding the letters. Danny's legal team is trying to go for the "serve his sentences concurrently" bargain, where it looks like the primary argument is that since he's no longer 'a danger to society', and that he's a man of good character or whatever they claim, he shouldn't be serving the 15 year into 15 year prison sentence combo. They got some real wild names to write letters too: Kitty and Red from "That 70's Show", 9/11 first responders (incidentally Danny's crimes took place after his 9/11 philanthropy), even a guy who owns a ton of Jersey Mike's locations who put a Jersey Mike's watermark on his letter.

I completely agree, this is a concern that relates to moral relativism and a pre-established concept of a person vs newly given information

Yeah the “he was nice to me so he isn’t a bad guy” logic is ridiculous
@@sub-harmonikI don't think it’s so bizarre. Consent is not always verbal, but people’s wants can easily change. It’d be just easier to ask verbally. And you're right, people should be given better education on the workings of what consent is, and how to recognise and confirm it. It’s pretty easy not to rape people, it’s one of the only crimes which have no logical reason other than causing physical harm to another being for one’s own benefit.

Edit: idk why people are still commenting on this like there wasn’t any evidence he 100% did the crime and sent ppl after this family to harass them for speaking out against him being a rapist if you’re in my comments defending and if this behavior you are literally just a garbage human being there is no denying that he’s a rapist.
Huge Rumors out there that Ashton and Danny used to do crazy shit as youngins on the 70s show. They’re the embodiment of evil in the industry.

And these 2 knew the victims. Empty apology
What was the evidence I can’t find it
@@taylortaylor6845I also can't find it, it seems like just the victims accounts?
( aka.. antifa threatening the jury including the lawyer saying she will hunt the jury down if they don’t give a not guilty verdict.. its f up)
This is why, trials and good judges tend NOT to allow layers play the emotion card ( made very famous by johnny Cochran).. and stick to the facts.

@@whyisyes3957 mission obviously failed then.
When are people going to learn that just because someone does good things and is a good friend to you does not mean they are incapable of doing bad things to others?
People aren’t gonna “learn” that. It’s just human nature to have massive biases towards people we know.

People won't forgive you for that, but it'll be honest and a lot of people will at least be more understanding.

@@killapositionz2 your acting like their not human and can see how their past decisions were wrong. we grow and evolve and learn lessons. we’re not the same people we were before
@emilygrace No… this isn’t the same.
Why is there a claw machine and more importantly, where do I get my tokens?
It's extremely rare to find a naturally formed pedophile. Stop acting like they are vile monsters. Start treating them humanely and advocating for them to have mandatory mental health treatment.
@michaelrising9441 He actually wasn't molested or anything as a child. Either way, everyone has the ability to break the chain. I'm refuse to make excuses for people that do these kinds of things. Your comment makes you sound like a pedo-sympathizer. You might not be, but you took time to excuse away guilt.
@@melkor_of_utumno ???? no.
@@melkor_of_utumno amazingly enough having been abused is not an excuse to abuse others.
@@opalharness1555 Amazingly enough the world is more complicated that the braindead statement you just made.
It's hard to believe any apology that doesn't have a ukelele solo
