BMW F800GS Maintenance - Remove and install front wheel.

- This is a short clip on how to remove and install the front wheel on the BMW F800GS. Being able to remove the wheels on your bike is necessary if you do your own tire changes or need to repair a flat but it can also save you a few bucks since many dealers charge less if you walk in with your rims for new tires and not have them remove and install them. It is pretty similar to the procedure for many bikes. If you don't have ABS you won't have the speed sensor in front to worry about. I always work on my bike with the radio on and that is why there is no ambient sound and some SFX. Once you have done it a few times it takes only a few minutes. I can switch front and rear wheels in about 10 minutes working at a very leisurely pace. Check my videos for the clip on the rear wheel. As I mention in the clip BMW does not have you remove the calipers but I feel it makes it so much easier that I do take them off. Finally if you aren't confident you can do this go to the dealer! This is the way I do it, not the official way, follow the manual! Here is the link to the axle tool I have.

I just fixed a flat on the trails this weekend and didn't have to take off the calipers or the ABS sensor. It wasn't a problem. Also, I loosened the bolt on the axel before the pinch bolts.
I've done it without removing the calipers or the ABS sensor but it was more of a pain. I just find it only takes a second or two to remove them and then I can do it without any fiddling.
@boxwoodgreen If you google "f800 axle tool " you'll see that lots of companies make them. I added the link to the one I bought to the description of the video since you can't post links in comments.
Would you reccomend them then? The only other after market rotors I've seen are Wunderlich.
What's the "little tool" you used to help get the axle stared out, and where would one find one??

so would you recommend the 800 for an enduro? My other choices was the single f650, Kawasaki Versys, or the Suzuki Vstrom.

i plan on longer trips on the highway also so it needs some power dealers that we have talked to said that the dr and klr struggle on the higher speeds and the only thing i am worried about with the versys and strom is dropping them because there is a lot more to break where your 800 can take major abuse and i dont want to be worried about dropping the bike and breaking alot of stuff on the bike. kind of takes away from the whole off road feeling!

Again, nice rotors, where from?
I think the F650 is more of an enduro (Sertao or the old Dakar model) and the V-Strom less and the Versys even less. If you watch my clips you see what I do and what abuse the bike can take. You could certainly put knobbies on the Strom and the Versys but less ground clearance would be a major issue for me as would the 19" front tire. A DR650 or KLR are choices as well if you don't mind the low power on the road. You will certainly like less weight on the trail! Compromise time.....

Just one note, I've seen the value to tighten the axle bolt to 50Nm in a few riding blogs, so I am confused with your value of 30 Nm, I'll go with 50 Nm until further notice.

It is certainly harder. Some guys have made their own tool by using a bolt that the head fits inside the axle. Loctite or weld a nut on the bolt so you can hold it with a wrench.

Put bike on centre stand.

Sorry never had to do that. You will probably need the special socket to remove the ignition. I got one with the kit to install my steering damper. Some guys just use Vice Grips. Do yu the BMW service DVD? It shows how to do pretty much everything.
the next two items on my list are the CD and a damper!

Rewmember to tighten pinchbolts 2-3 times alternately, because as soon as you tighten the second, the first one become looser.
