How shocking ... MTB channel content with out air, hucks, shralping, EWS, knar, park, gap, table, progression or a redbull helmet. Don't get me wrong I love those things to but it's great to see more. Awesome thank you for something different.
Refreshing to see some XC content. XC is a different from the other mtb disciplines since it is mostly an endurance sport. Thanks to advances in technology, filming these events is now possible. I also loved the Cape Epic. There is one genre of Mountainbiking still missing however from Gmbn and this XCE (Cross country eliminator), which is often done in an urban environment and is much more like middle distance.
Rich, you're awesome for doing XC races. I really wish you, Blake, and Neil did it together. It's nice to see more XC content on the channel. As much as I like park days and dh gnar, I mostly do xc/trail riding on my short travel bike. Keep bringing The Payne 💪😎👍
Ah brilliant! I started racing the Gorrick races when I was 15 religiously and loved it. It taught me so much about mountain biking. I am now 43 ang have raced EWS’s the mega all. John is a legend and he should get the recognition he deserves.
Nice work Rich. I love that this channel is giving XC racing a bit more ♥ . BTW, i have the same thing: never really need gloves, hands are inexplicably always warm
I like Rich's attitude to the race; have a crack and if you're not on The Pace just push on personal levels and enjoy yourself. Well done Rich. Kick on! I kinda wanna see he and GCN Si just have fun in Cyclocross. tbh those two lads seem fairly similar enough that some form of enduro conquest a year might (might) be kind of cool to see.
Nice, MORE XC PLEASE, i would love to see you guys at gmbn do more stuff with XC, It seems between GCN and GMBN the big void is gravel and XC would love to see more endurance cross country content!
I would love to watch more vids of you training for XC... with the techy details like heart rate highs and avg and elevation gain, etc. to have something for us mortals to compare to... great job Thanks!
Great video Rich ! Im 56 and still racing XC where i live in Spain, and all over Spain.i race mainly Marathon or super marathon here , theres not so much short coarse , what saddle are you using ? i can see its an ERGON but what model. Cheers Rich get some more racing in them legs and more westcountry accents please ..cracks me up......i get the mick taken regularly cos im an old Cornish boy and havent lost my accent despite 30 yrs abroad
It's too hot to ride in the Middle East during summer, so this is the season for XC riding in the desert. I only take mine out about 15 days each year, but it's great to have it at this time of year when the temps finally get into the 20's (C, not F!)
I love how Richard goes racing in 0° temps without gloves on, then starts throwing around comments like all the people that are surprised by his naked hands are the weird ones!
Gloveless Rich! In all weathers apparently. I saw Tahnee Seagrave commenting on gloves the other day. She said she tried to look cool riding without gloves up until a crash cut her hands up in a pretty painful way. To each their own I guess but consider fingerless at least! Edit: love your energy though, as per usual! Great vid!
Yeah hand injuries are such a pain, keeping them dry, messed up finger prints for your phone, not worth it. Plus mine go so dry and horrible without them in winter and that's just inconsiderate! Also Rich getting 5th not training is just a liberty
Thanks matey. Interesting one this as people always comment on my lack of gloves it’s definitely not a trying to look cool thing (waaay past that lol) my hands genuinely don’t really feel the cold and also I like that you can feel what the bikes doing a lot more without gloves you pick up on lots of little intricacies more. Plus a few years as a stone mason made them pretty solid 😂 hope that helps
@@richardpayne5176 Haha, you do look cool anyway whether you mean to or not! Sorry if I came through as patronising. Just worried for you is all! And I see your point about feeling the bike better. I wear gloves (well... obviously considering this thread) but I want them as thin as possible (but still doing the job) for the same reason.
I live in the tropics, so I have this cold, wet weather biking instead of that winter biking you have in the West esp. during this month until February next year. I adore climbing, & I work out on climbing as much as I can. I hope it will bear fruit the first time I'll try to join a race because I never tried it yet. Lots'a love, cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical (northern) Philippines! #KeepBiking
Well done Rich 5th after not racing for 2 years! Gorrick courses are always a good crack. The one in Highlands Farm is brutal with no real recovery anywhere! Well done again, will we see you again on the next brass monkeys 2nd round on the 6th Jan?
I think the most passionate amateur mountain bikers do a bit of all disciplines including XC, so that should get some coverage as well as the more visually spectacular DH and Freeride.
Do you love or hate winter training? Let us know in the comments below!👇

Love seeing XC racing content! Please bring more! I’d love to see Doddy race a modern XC race on a retro bike. Maybe host a full Retro race!
Doddy hates racing
@@tony2000and10 He seems to be the only one who likes both Retro bikes an XC.
"Damn, it's well cold" - Rich Payne, riding without gloves
I know, right? Just watching him race with no gloves on actually made my hands hurt!
It's painful with gloves in the cold. Hands go numb and almost stop working. No idea how he's not using gloves.

Thanks Rich....good luck in the training....Peace
Love these vlogs and Rich is so natural, keep these going #gmbn 👍🏻
Epic! One of my local mtb race series and they always put on a great event but brutal course 😅
Was a tough one for Rich but he had a great time!
The gorrick courses have some brutal short climbs
Will have to check them out one day!
finally some XC stuff. Thanks alot :)
Go on Payner! Great to watch.
I love the way the music stopped at 10:57 so we could hear Rich say
"I'm comin for ya" 😂😂
I would love to see more race content they are super fun to watch
Your in luck I love to race 😆😆😆
great to see XC content. hopefully we'll see you and the channel at some regionals and nationals next year.

They should head over east in the summer and do some XC/XCO races at the Redbridge cycling centre for a completely different XC race experience.
How was your sports induced asthma.. that cost climb after the sprint start gave me the taste of blood.. 💪🏻

I think XC is good for commuter bike to work. Maybe putting down hill fork is comfortable on the rough roads.
I've been looking for XC events/routes/communities in the UK. Any pointers, and suggestions would be great. Cheers
For events: Friday night summer series, gorrick, hsbc uk nationals, travers, southern Xc and focus rides are some Xc series

What is your weight and what pressures were you running? Great video!

Love racing
“The Missus does love ‘em” 😁

5th place? Not bad my man. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Well done! What power meter are you using on your XC bike? That's one thing I need so that I don't blow up in races.
