  • A nearly 30-year-old crime is back in the spotlight. In 1995, Selena Quintanilla Perez was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her death sent shockwaves across the music industry, and through homes across Latin America and the U.S. A two-night documentary series on Oxygen called “Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them” revisits the crime. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

I was in San Antonio Texas in 1995 the day Selena died. I was there for a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod national youth gathering. That night at the Alamodome 64 thousand Christian youth and adults were praying for Selena it's something to this day I have always kept with me. That night walking back to the downtown hotels lots of people were waving Mexican flags out of car vans trucks and honking their horns.

I always thought she’d never get out because if you look it up, one of the rules to be granted for parole, is that you have to admit and own up to what you did! She never did. But now that’s her parole is coming up, i wouldn’t be surprised if she’s being strategic and deciding to “own up to it” just to get out.
Because why else do a documentary close to your parole date? Could be a coincidence but ehhh. Since she refused to say she purposely killed her for so many years, I doubt it.

She was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Then I rented the movie and shared it with my sisters and we watched it for days and sang all of her songs. Dreaming Of You was our FAVORITE! Yolanda really hurt the Latino community when she murdered her. She better pray that God shows her mercy. And I truly hope she suffers everyday with what she did. I think she was just a way better person than J. Lo, honestly. And look, I'm sure J. Lo would have become famous in her own right sooner or later.
