So this was a great season for Chastain statistically, as he was up there in points, but the playoffs destroys any of that and rewards you with sub 17 place point finishes
15:41 as a Byron fan ❤️❤️thank you for saying what I think is obvious. I feel like Byron is very technically sound and consistent, but doesn’t race with the same flashiness as his other top competitors. I think COTA the past 2 years shows this off well. 2 years ago it was him and Reddick vs the field, where Byron was amazing taking the optimal racing line, but Reddick was more aggressive and made up time in hard breaking zones. It was a reverse of that in 2024 with him and Bell, where once again Byron drove the track super technically sound, but Bell had the tire strategy and aggression and it was more fun to see him try to chase the boring dominant car down. He’s boring because he’s clean. He is the new MTJ, where if he wins he’s usually dominant, and people complain. Or if he isn’t dominant, people complain that he backed into a win like 2023 Darlington. He puts himself in position to win races people. Also, can we also recognize he’s so good because he has virtually no weaknesses? One of the best superspeedway drivers. Great at fast ovals like Indy, Pocono, and Michigan. Great at traditional mile and a half tracks. If anything, to me he struggles at short fast ovals at times like Gateway or New Hampshire, but then wins at tracks like Phoenix and Martinsville so maybe he’s just inconsistent. He’s also super underrated and one of the best road course racers in the sport over the last few years. It seems like there are some specific tracks he struggles at, or some weekends where he doesn’t have top end speed, but he’s good everywhere.
As a Chase Elliott fan, I’m glad that he was consistent enough to win the championship under your format. I needed this after the absolute living Hell I endured in 2023. Now that he was consistent enough to win a championship, hopefully he’s able to get some more wins and return to his 2018-2021 self Byron definitely doesn’t deserve the hate he gets. Sure, he wasn’t like his 2023 self. But he was still good and ran top 5 in the points the entire year. People probably just hate him cus he’s in a Hendrick car. And this season/year was a great season for Nascar. While there were a lot of lows *COUGH COUGH Nashville and Joe Log COUGH COUGH* it was a great year and hopefully 2025 isn’t a 2015-like season
I think this was a rebuild year for Elliot and the 9 team. He still wasn’t fully to form and was still the most consistent. I think he’ll be either more dominant next year or just win more. But I’d rather him be consistent than win
I hope Elliott can get back to winning more races, and I do believe he can do that. Byron is a quality driver. Very good imo. Hendrick has the best driver lineup. They have 4 great drivers.
Hendrick fans have it worse. Hendrick would've won 4 chips in a row had it not been for the playoffs. 😢 I'm both an Elliott and a Hendrick fan and a professional playoff hater.
Give a call to Christopher Bell who was barely in the top 10 with 12 races to go, and clawed his way to almost win the championship (did win it in some formats).
Honestly I like the stages just hate the bullshit cautions. I’m not a huge fan of the playoffs but I’m also not saying we should go back to the old Winston cup style full season points. I liked the old chase style.
Todd Gilliland seriously impressed last year what a damn breakout like damn and he could have another one this year and I hope he does as a fan of him he is developed nicely as a Ford prospect now let's go get that win Todd 🏁.
Did anyone also notice that the real life and non playoffs champion from 2022 win their respective titles, have an off 2023, and win their respective championships in 2024? Pretty interesting!
So in your format, Elliott claims his 2nd title, but in the Winston format, Bell is the champion. What?? But anyway, this proves that Elliott isn't a Mickey Mouse Champion!!!
I think Hendrick needs to start an IndyCar team and perhaps Kyle Larson makes the jump to IndyCar to try and do something only Tony Stewart has done in winning a cup championship and an NTT IndyCar Series Championship. I think if Larson went full time in IndyCar, he would have a very easy time transitioning and he could easily contend for the IndyCar title and provide a good challenge to Alex Palou. I love Palou, great guy and great driver and he won 3 championships in 4 years. Larson would easily contend.
I think out of everything that happened in 2024, the best thing that happened in all of sports was Cody Rhodes winning the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 40 beating Roman Reigns in possibly the greatest main event in WrestleMania history. 2024 cemented Cody Rhodes as a legend and he’s had some fantastic rivalries on SmackDown this past year like Kevin Owens. Just like how William Byron had another breakout year in 2024, that year cemented him as a star after his championship. But yeah, best thing to happen in all of 2024 was Cody Rhodes winning the WWE title
I feel this was a rebuild year for Elliot. He still wasn’t fully to form I think most can agree. Elliot was going about 90-95% the whole year while others were constantly going 100-105. Especially Larson. Elliot just drove smarter this year Also I somewhat agree with stage racing. For most tracks it needs to be removed. But until they fix the road courses and short tracks fully, it needs to stay.
It's a shame we can't have nice things the championship battles in Cup and Xfinity would make great storylines if the playoffs didn't exist who cares if the championship is decided with 3 races left (looking at you Joey Logano) Logano is the Mickiest of all champions even worse than Blaney
Consistency doesn’t pay in real life, but it sure pays in Breaking the Chase HELL YEAH! And as an angry Elliott fan, that comment at the end was 100 and 10 percent correct. Most of the time he ran behind where he would finish and at the end would scrape a good finish off the floor. But that pays in this fantasy universe, and I like it.
hmmm interesting, I do feel that larson was a better driver than elliott, but this is honestly why nascar needs to go back to a full season format, because different full season formats crowned different champions in 2024. this video crowns chase of course, full season with stage points crown larson, and winston cup, f1, and mk8 points all crown bell as the champ. the way this past season turned out with the playoffs rubbed me the wrong way, and so I probably won't be a full time nascar fan going forward, and only watch select races, i am intrigued for the in-season tournament. it's just crazy to me right now how european sports are so much better to watch than american sports, f1 and epl both feel like they're in boom periods and will probably be the main sports I rock with going forward
Cool video, though im a bit confused. What point system are you using exactly? Even not including win and in, Reddick and Larson were neck and neck for 1st overall at the southern 500, but in this video they aren’t as close. What’s the difference? Also your fact checking needs some work
2016 format. Before stage racing. 1st-43 2nd-39 3rd-38 4th-37 5th-36 . . . . 38th-3 39th-2 40th-1 1 Point For Leading a Lap 1 Point For Leading the most laps Also, my fact checking? What did I miss?
Look I'm a logano fan but yes he definitely wasn't up there until the playoffs. Logano and his team stepped up when they needed winning when they needed and having the 3nd most wins in the season they figured out how to win the title under the format everyone is given. Logano is just as deserving as the rest.
Person: (says someone is better statistically than Chase Elliott) 99% of Elliott fans: wHy dO yOu hAtE cHaSe?!?!? And for the record, I don't hate Chase either.
I thought you were going to single-handedly describe it like you did in 2020 by saying “It was an absolute disgrace that a 12th place driver would come in and win the championship because this is by far the worst title winning season ever!” I remember in 2020 when you said “absolute disgrace that Kevin Harvick did not win the 2020 championship. Harvick was clearly the best all year and no one was able to match him. He has the most top five, top 10 and laps led of anyone that year, he should’ve easily won the title.“ I honestly thought you were going to roast Logano’s Mickey Mouse championship.
@@p1motorsports694 I mean, you kind of did roast Logano’s Mickey Mouse championship by saying that it was hard to accept, and it was single-handedly the worst championship ever in NASCAR history. This is exactly why the playoffs need to be retired and they need to institute the Indycar series point system maybe or the F1 point system maybe if they’re going to reward consistency or winning, that’s the best way they’re gonna do it. In F1, winning is what matters more than anything and if you don’t finish within the top 10 or 20 I believe it is, you get no points at all. With Indycar’s points, you also get bonus points for winning the pole.
Honestly, I don't like the F1 Points system, it's wildly out of proportion. Finishing 11th is the same as finishing last. If I finish 11th every race and some other dude has finished 18th every race but he gets lucky with some bs and he finishes 10th, that automatically puts him ahead because he has 1 point and all I have is 11th place finishes. The Winston Cup format is overrated. It's so out of proportion its not even funny. To me, the point for position format is the best. It's simple to understand and it shows who actually had good consistency. To me, the days where drivers have rough races but end up salvaging them are what makes the champion inside them. It's how you manage the rough days.
@@p1motorsports694 what if you had the IndyCar point system? The way it works is like this: 1st: 50 pts 2nd: 40 pts 3rd: 35 pts 4th: 32 pts And then you countdown by 2 points until you get to 10th which is worth 20 points. And then you count down by 1 point until you get to 25th place, which is worth 5 points. From 25th on down, you get 5 points. In addition to that, you get a point for leading a lap and one for leading the most laps and you get two bonus points for winning the pole. If that system gets carried over to NASCAR, would that be the best type of system to crown a champion?
@@the_elmeister again proportion. Honestly it's all about what someone prefers. To me, every position needs to have the same proportions. Point for position all day for me.
This series really just shows how we really don’t actually need the playoffs to have good storylines
This coulda been like a 1992 type season tbh
In terms of Larson, I truly believe he pushes so hard because of how passionate of a driver he is. He reminds me of Jeff Gordon a little bit.
Under the original Winston cup points format, Christopher Bell would be the champion by 5 points over Chase Elliott
So this was a great season for Chastain statistically, as he was up there in points, but the playoffs destroys any of that and rewards you with sub 17 place point finishes
12:25 my guy pulled off a Matt Kenseth season!!!!!
