    Plus the fact that Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson busted onto the scene and were kicking but now you are seeing the decline of Busch in the same way as Johnson unfortunately

    So I was re-watching some of the 2013 races and honestly, some of those races that Kenseth should’ve had in the bag were completely outside of his control because he blew an engine at Dover and at the Daytona 500 as well. And I would think that if it weren’t for those blown engines, he probably would’ve been the championship favorite with all of those wins and he probably would’ve been remarkably consistent. Those blown engines really hurt Kenseth

    Chad knaus was the genius behind that team and alot of Jimmies Wins. He could bend the rules and come up with some of the best tactics and Car mods out front of the best . He was just as good with Tactics on the track as he was at setting up a great car . Some of those tactics were no doubt questionable at best.

    This wreck didn’t end Jimmie Johnson lol. I hate this narrative. He lucked into a few wins early on that year, but it was starting to become obvious that his consistency was lacking.

    David Pearson should be in the top two. And more importantly, neither Harvick or Busch should be on this list, especially when leaving Tony Stewart off of it. And that is hard for me to say as I hate Tony Stewart.

    This popped up in my recommendations. Sure, Jimmie won a lot of races. Yet, if there was no chase, he’d of likely won 1-3 titles. He’d of been in the likes of Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison. Which isn’t a bad thing at all. However, no chase and it is Jeff Gordon that is in the likes of Sr. and Petty. Jimmie’s team was the master cheaters of a 10 race schedule that favored him. There’s no denying that team cheated. They cheated better than anybody and USED Jeff Gordon’s knowledge against him. I quit watching when Jimmie got to five. Jimmie would be mediocre most of the season until chase time. No other drivers would race Jimmie hard either. It was like they were cowards vs. him. Yet, other drivers would wreck Gordon and ruin his opportunities at another title. Jimmie’s smug vanilla jive got old fast. He was very boring. After 2007, Gordon lost the chase, but had earned over 400 more pints than Jimmie. Right there that told you the chase was crowing a fake champion. Then Jimmie won five in a row. Once Gordon retired, Jimmie went down fast. I haven’t watched NASCAR since. Although I caught a race at a hotel a few years back. It was some road course. Jimmie wrecked Truex at the flag stand. I laughed so hard. F that guy.

    Another argument that I believe needs to be brought up, is in the later years of his career, how teams were conspiring against Jeff and "conveniently" wrecking him out of the playoffs on more than on occasion within the last 5 laps of the race. I remember watching with my Dad and each year from 2013-2015 it seemed he always got cut off short by some lower-named driver. This became evident at Richmond in 2013 when the radio chatter became available and it was clear people were fixing races against him.

    Been saying it since that year that this wreck snapped him out of his zone and showed him too much reality to ever get back into it….same exact thing happened to Gordon at pocono in 06 and he was never the same either.

    I was at every win Jimmie Johnson had at Charlotte Motor Speedway (LOWES Motor Speedway). ALL of them. I am still a 48 fan - JJ. I knew when I saw this wreck live that it was going to make an impact on his career. I just didn't know how much.

    All drivers go through it at some point. Father Time always wins out. It got my driver Harvick around the start of 2021 after being by far the best driver in 2020. Now it’s happening to Kyle Busch it seems. I used to hate Jimmie Johnson with a passion from 2006-2016. But I’ve grown to appreciate him way more now that I’ve gotten older and how truly dominate him and Chad Knaus were as a driver/cc combo.

  • @paulday5722
    @paulday5722 7 днів тому

    Kevin Harvick has an interesting theory on this. The real beginning of the end for JJ was Jeff Gordon retiring. Throughout his career JG worked constantly with team engineers, engine builders, aero guys, etc. to make sure all four HMS cars were fast enough to win every race. Jimmie never took over that role so they didn't have any mechanical advantage anymore plus he was past his physical prime. Add in the personal falling out with Knaus and they were just an average team.

    • @NizRacingNY
      @NizRacingNY 6 днів тому

      Yup. I’m sure it’s a mix of all the factors you listed plus the stuff in the video. Ray leaves Hendrick. Jeff has to take over the role and wins less, but Jimmie wins more because of it. Jeff leaves and everyone wins less because nobody’s covering that role anymore. Think about it. You had Gordon/Evernham working closely and sharing notes with Petree/Earnhardt for years as if they are teammates…Ray leaves, but Jeff still has all the knowledge he learned plus his relationship with Dale for a couple more years until his death. Now Jimmie comes along, Jeff ain’t winning as much as he was with Ray, but with him as a driver/owner now he’s sort of in the Petree/Earnhardt position of working with Jimmie/Chad…Jeff leaves, they manage to win a bit more but clearly going downhill fast…Chad leaves…the end. Guess what I’m saying is it takes a village to build dynasties.

    If it wasn't for "The Chase", Johnson would barely have 3 championships. Gordon would gave 7

      @voltronm100 6 днів тому

      Amen! Gordon was so dominant all season and then Jimmy would string together a few good races at the end and steal the title from Gordon.

  • @overdrive71080
    @overdrive71080 7 днів тому

    This wreck did signal the beginning of the end for Jimmie Johnson’s winning ways but that seems to be the case for most of the legends and I’ll list them Richard Petty’s broken neck at the same track in 1980 his win percentages went down and wasn’t the dominant driver he was a few years before and really fell off a cliff after 1987 Dale Earnhardt after his 1996 Talladega crash wasn’t the same driver and became more conservative on track up until he died Jeff Gordon was a contender year after year but seemed more inconsistent after his 2008 Las Vegas crash where he messed up is back pretty badly Sterling Marlin was a championship contender in 2002 but broke his neck in Kansas and after that he seemed to fall off a cliff and only had good runs here and there but was hardly competitive anymore Darrell Waltrip got many wins each season up until 1990 where he suffered multiple injuries at a practice for the Pepsi 400. After that he had a few wins but consistency fell off a cliff and let’s not talk about 1999 and 2000 as those years were truly embarrassing So as you can see big crashes can slow drivers down and Jimmie Johnson isn’t immune

    I think you should factor the hendrick/chevy slump that happened here too. Johnson quit about the time Hendrick started rebounding. Also, blaming that one crash seems a little much to me too. Certainly a bad crash, but hardly one of worst in history. Personally, I think if he was still in the 48 he'd of challenged for championships in the 2020s when hendrick recovered from its slump.
