You did a great job of explaining as you went along. Thank you for helping me understand the beading process.
Wonderful video. I like showing how to cut the paper.
Best mill hill tutorial yet. My threads were sloppy until I watched your video. I was making them to lose but when I saw that you were making them as you explain kind of scrunched up oh my gosh, what a difference it made and they don’t look scrunched up They still look like exes, but they are much neater now because of this video you explain things very well compared to other subscriptions I have reviewed. Thank you so much for making this because I love these kids and I have invested in a small stock of them and almost gave up after seeing how sloppy my stitches were but now I’m going to forge on. Also, you have a voice that is very easy to listen to and I love the way you show things.
You’ve cleared up so many questions I had. Thanks
So well done!
I'm new to Mill Hill kits, doing my first one, and found your video. This is a great tutorial for making them. I have a new confidence that mine will turn out. Thank you!!
Beautiful work
wonderful tutorial, can't wait to do this!
Excellent intructions. Thank you!
You’re welcome 😊
Wonderful video. Thank you
You may want to dangle you needle and thread, to untwist it. I love your instructions. You make it alot simpler than when I do it.
What a wonderfully made video..thank you so much for showing us how it is done from the start right up to finishing it in the end... amazing work... thanks a lot!
Awesome video thank you so much I appreciate it
I’m about to start my first Mill Hill bead kit. This was very informative. Thank you!
Ready to start my first Mill Hill, but was unsure about the beading. This was very helpful!
Oh good! Glad I could help! You’re going to love these kits!!
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I feel better about stitching my Halloween ornaments.
You’re welcome! Have fun
Thank you for doing this video. I did not know how to start reading the diagram between stitches and beading. Now I understand. Thank you again.
Really nice ⚾️
Hi Tammy, Just found you & your tutorial after a frustrating first day starting a Mill Hill cross stitch beaded kit. "Merry Moose" for my sister. Thanks for starting and going through the finishing. process. I spent 3 hours sorting the beads not realizing I didn't have to. Sigh... You might find it easier to use cross stitch needle size 28 for your beading, bigger eye and even fits through those tiny seed beads. I use a needle threader with the size 28 and it works like magic. I use the loop method to start threads for cross stitching and beading, no need to tie knots. Thanks again for your tips on these Mill Hill kits.
Great video….thanks!!!
Nicely done! Appreciated you sharing all the various techniques used on this project. How to do lock stitches for both the cross stitch & the beads was very interesting. Will be starting my first Mill Hill kit this fall. Will be feeling a lot more confident now - thanks!
Just about to start my first Mill Hill kit. Thank you for going through the steps one at a time. Now given me the confidence to get started. This is a great tutorial for a novice to beading. Many thanks
Thank you great instructions I think i will give it a try
Wow!! I haven't done cross stitch in a million years, but I think I'm inspired! I remember putting some masking or painters tape around the edges to make it smoother, and I would always label the top of my work so that when I came back I wouldn't pick it up sideways or upside down! I will have to look for this brand. I love it. Thanks - Cindy
C Durran Yes! I did the same thing with the tape. I now use that “fray check” stuff on the edges of my fabric. Less messy looking and won’t discolor the material if you’re like me and it takes forever to finish a project. That’s another reason why I like these kits is that it’s a stiff material that won’t fray. Thanks so much for watching!
How beautiful he came out! Well done video!!! You are so thorough with your teaching. Thank you!!!
I Love their kits! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
it’s Aug 2019, just discovered these kits online. so searched for a tutorial. your video was excellent. Thank you, I learnt something new today
This is great! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome.
Beautiful piece and some very helpful information. I've always wanted to try beaded cross stitch and learned a lot from this. Thank you!
Love the tips ..have not done mill hill for many years...will definitely look at the kits again . Thank you clear instructions too
Thank you for posting your progress from start to finish. I have never worked on a Mill Hill piece. They are pretty. I look forward to buying one and trying it out.
I really enjoyed watching this video! I am going to give this craft a try. Your finished pieces are gorgeous!
Thank you!!!
I'm glad I watched your video, because I was afraid to try beaded cross stitch. Now I know I can handle it.
Love your videos! A tip: weave hanging string into other stitches on the back so it won't pull out if it accidentally gets a quick hard tug. ...Yep, learned from experience. :( Had to stitch new loop on to felt but couldn't hide it like I could have if I'd just stitched it fast the first time. Beautiful projects!
Nic J Ooh great tip! I never thought about it being pulled out by mistake. Thank you I will do that from now on. Happy New Year!
thank you for uploading. I bought a cross stitch kit and it had beads which i didn't realize when i ordered it.
Thanks so much for the great step by step instructions. I have always been intimidated to try one of these because of all the beads.
You’re welcome. They’re so much fun. I am addicted to these kits!
Oh what a great find ! I chanced on your channel and love your explanation.. thank you and look forward to your tutorials!
Thank you Tanya for such an excellent video - I just completed my first Mill Hill called Happy Camper and loved it - I am a visual learner and your instructions were perfection. Thank you so much :)
You did a great job with this. I watched the whole thing and even went back to this. Starting a Mill Hill house soon This was a huge help
Janiece Kiedrowski Oh good. Glad I could help. Thanks for watching!
You gave some wonderful tips! You make it look so easy ! Your instructions are great ! Keep up the good work !
Thank you 😊
SO informative! Thank you. Starting my first Mill Hill and this made it much less intimidating.
Great tutorial! I am super new to cross stitch and found this very helpful.
Great video and project. Learned a lot. Thanks
Omg! Thank you so much for making this video! I’ve only just started cross stitching about a month ago and bought this kit to do as a gift for somebody not realizing it was a bit more advanced than where I’m currently at. This video has truly helped me so much!!! You are the best!
You’re very welcome. I love these kits. Very addictive and the results are beautiful. Have fun!
Your ornaments are SO BEAUTIFUL..I just have a little tree so these would be perfect. I have never done counted cross stitch only stamped--but want to learn..thanks for this tutorial--hugs, Julierose
Great video - I have a few of these kits and will be starting on them soon - Thank you for taking the time to explain how to stitch them♥
Hello my name is Mary Ann I live in South Jersey this is the first time I saw your video I enjoyed watching you craft the Mill Hill wise man I thank you what a great editorial for 2022 Happy New Year thank you so much have a good day
Thank you for such an informative video. I've done these before but needed a refresher. I did learn some new tips from you that will help me. I love the idea of separating and labeling the floss. I also never highlighted the areas I've done. Your work is beautiful!
Colleen Isaac Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it and that you got some ideas from it. I love these kits. So beautiful when they’re done. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thank you for this video. I'm taking up stitching again. It's almost Halloween and wanted a small project to do for the Holladay. It seems these little bead kits have really saturated the market. I was afraid to try beading, but after watching this video, my seed bead phobia has ended. Thank you so much!
Hi, When I do any cross stitch/embroidery I enlarge the pattern, and is only because of my eye sight, and it makes finding the stitches a lot better, and when I'm done I use a highlight marker to cross that stitch off. Then you can save the original one! Thank you, I love watching you' and miss the bobbin lace,
Karen Tech That’s a great tip. Thank you so much for sharing and watching!
Thank you so much for doing this video. I bought a Santa last month and was afraid to try it as I have not done beads before. This truly helps and also added another item to my list to buy.
Cynthia Prater Oh good! Glad I could help. These kits are so beautiful when they’re done. Definitely worth the extra time doing the beads. Have fun! Thanks for watching.
Great tutorial! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this information. You answered so many of my questions. Just bought my first mill hill kit and can't wait to start. 🌻🐿
You’re welcome! They’re so beautiful when they’re finished with the beads. Enjoy!!
I know this video is old but so glad I stumbled across it. I just bought some Mill Hill beaded kits and was overwhelmed after reading the instructions. Your instructions are so thorough and it was nice that I could actually see what you were doing. Did cross stitch 25 years ago but the charts were always color coded and did not use symbols.
I have been doing cross stitch since I was twelve, and beading for a few years now, and I can't believe I never combined the two.. haha I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I have a lot of ideas for combining the two now, even without a kit. You're a great teacher. 💗💗💗 Now, I just have to find one of those ottlites for my old eyes. 😁
Shari A. Thank you. The ott light is great. I love these kits. If you enjoy both beading and cross stitch you will really enjoy these!
This is so beautiful 🥰
THANK YOU!! This was so helpful on my first Mill Hill kit.
You’re welcome! Have fun! Warning: these kits are addictive😉
This was a great tutorial! Thanks so much!
Gin Wooten You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed it. Oops. I’m signed into my other channel. It’s me though! Lol
Love the video, I have worked with Mill Hill kits love them. Have a great New Year.
Jane Messer Thank you for watching. These kits are so nice. Happy New Year to you as well!
Thank was very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks so much for making this video, I watched it tonight as I finished my 3rd Mill Hill kit. I really enjoyed watching your work and the instructions were very clear. I did cringe a bit at the glue part, I’ve been using and iron on heat bond to attach my piece to the paper. Thanks again for a great video.
GallifreyGeek LOL I cringe when I do that too! It’s just the way I’ve always done them and it works but yeah, it’s bad. Thanks for watching, enjoying and commenting. Take care. :-)
Hi Tammy I also just found you. Thank you for the great tutorial. Loved your step by step instructions. You made it look easier than I thought. Definitely going to try one. The beading on it is a wonderful finish. Look forward to your next video.
Hi, lol I say my name too fast, everyone thinks I’m saying Tammy but it’s Tanya. Glad you found me and enjoyed the cross stitch. I love these kits. You’ll be hooked on them! Enjoy.
Hi guys, This video is a tutorial video so I do a lot of talking in this one. I know a lot of people don’t like that but it’s hard to teach without speaking. Enjoy!
RedCardinalCrafts I love your talking.
RedCardinalCrafts your talking is the reason I started watching. Your voice is SO relaxing to me. I have watched every video on every channel so many times because your voice calms me down like none other. Please don't stop!
Amelia Owen. Same here.
Amelia Owen Really!? Oh you’re so sweet. Thank you so much.
Joyce Winchenbaugh Thank so much Joyce!
Great instructions.
Ragamuffin Bellamax Thank you so much!
This was so helpful and I totally use an Asian condiment dish for my beans also! I started this with my felt kits and using sequin and beads- I have the dual one that’s a yingyang & would put different colors or types in each side and those sides are helpful to get the beads on the needle.
Tip: use a wax or thread conditioner to run the floss Ofer and can get it through that tinnnnnny bead needle and not cos it to fray.
Charity Dutton Thanks you the wax tip! I need to try that. Thank for watching and commenting
Great video!
Thank you, as just bought 3 of these lovely kits and hesitant to get started....😊
You’re welcome. Just a warning: These are highly addictive!! 😉Enjoy!
Great tutorial, thanks!!!
Mary Gorden Thank you. So glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you. This was so helpful!
critterena 88 You’re welcome
Thanks for the vid! I've always been so scared to try a project with beads, but I might have to go out and try one now. Also, I have that exact same pair of little bird scissors. xD
fergalicious214 Oh Yes, try one. They’re great. I had never done cross stitch with beads before either and now they’re my favorite. Those scissors are great! Take care. Happy holidays. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Thank you. enjoyed the video
Heidi Foote Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you!
Leslie Hobbs You’re welcome 😊
I love Mill Hill kits, but I NEVER use the paper. My thinking is that it is not as durable and will deteriorate much faster than fabric. I spend way too much time on these and would want them to last as long as possible and hopefully be handed down for generations.
How do you keep the fabric from fraying around the cut edges?
@@darlhow I just stitch on any cross stitch fabric and then finish as usual whether that’s putting on mounting board for inserting into a frame or sew it into a pillow.
To help avoid the knotting, separate the three individual threads, let each spin independently, then reassemble the three strands and they should not tangle.
You can save paper by lining your project up on the corner or bottom of a stitch .. I try to save as much paper as possible for other small projects ( Brooke’s books fb page posts mini perforated paper projects).
Also make a working copy of the chart that way you can mark off the stitching and then have a fresh chart to bead from
leostaar Great idea about making a copy of the pattern. I usually center things so that I know I have enough space to work without running off the edge.
Great tutorial Tanya, looks great, happy Xmas xx maybe we can see the elf’s next year hint hint haha! Xx
crossstitchbutton Yes! I promise they will make their way into the tree. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and all the very best wishes for 2018!
crossstitchbutton Guess what I’m working on this morning? I already had two done but hadn’t finished the backing etc on them. Working on number 3!
Yay! cant wait to see them, still nursing the flu xx
I haven’t done cross stitch in a long time but I want to try one of these! I went to 123stitch...there’s so many kits to choose from! I’m having trouble deciding! 😊
jvsqueen I know eh? I can never decide. If you look at the top of the site on the right you can create a wish list. Mine is quite long. I keep the ones I like in there and whenever I get the chance I’ll move a couple to my cart and buy them. I had the nativity ones on my list for two years and finally finished buying the set. I’m actually working on one of the Shepard’s this morning. I love these kits.
Thank you for the video , it makes it much more confidence to start the kits as a beginner. I am still amiss as to when you would do just a half cross stitch on the bead and when you want to full cross stitch on the bead to make it stand up. Is there a special mention in the instructions when that happpens? I may have a simple kit that does not need a stand up bead. I see no mention of the cross stitch on the bead within my special instructions. Please forgive my ignorance.
You use the full cross stitch on the tiny seed beads and just the half on the larger beads
Love this video. I will be doing my first Mill Hill kit soon and this helped. Could you provide a link to the ott lite magnifier? I think this would be useful for me.
Catherine Heider Thanks for watching. I’m just finishing the final piece of the Mill Hill nativity. There are 9 separate figures. It’s taken me a while to finish them all but they’re so worth it. I will do a video soon to show them all completed and hanging on my tree. I love these kits. Have fun with yours. As for the Ott light, I can’t seem to find my specific one, I just got it at Joann’s but if you go onto Amazon they have a lot of similar ones listed.
@@RedCardinalCrafts I am looking forward to your nativity video! I found the light on Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B00YO0ASPO/?coliid=I121BJFGLAW35K&colid=267WOXKB23SCA&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Thank you for doing this video. It was so helpful. I got all three of the Magi. The symbol for the first color (black) is missing/blank and last two symbols for the beads are misaligned and not next to the beads :-(. The other two seem to be okay. I'll figure it out somehow. Maybe I'll get in touch with the maker.
Glad I found this video!!!
Mascafequeleche Hi, what ever happened with your pattern? Did you contact them for a replacement?
Hi!! They emailed a corrected chart. Now all I have to do is get toner for my printer :-). Thank you for asking. I'm looking forward to following your guidelines.
I want to get these kits, but i can't find them here in germany 😥
Lustrous ;) ⬆
Excellent tutorial! Where do you purchase your kits?
Janet Shaffer Thank you. I buy then from 123stitch.
Thanks for the tutorial! Question: I have one of these kits but I want to add the finished product to a purse, so I need to use cross stitch fabric instead of the perforated paper. What EXACTLY do I buy? I'm confused because I see 14 count aida fabric, 28 count linen fabric, eeeesh! No idea what to get!
Thanks for any advice!
Hi, You can use a cross stitch fabric called “waste fabric”. I haven’t made a video on this but I found a video for you where the lady talks about it. Forward her video to around the 2 min mark and she explains it. ua-cam.com/video/FF39hlURU5U/v-deo.html You would pin the waste fabric to your purse and use it as a “guide” for stitching. When you’re done you can just pull out the waste fabric in strands and remove it and then you have your design on the purse without any cross stitch fabric behind it. Hope this helped you.
@@RedCardinalCrafts Ah, I see! Yes, that would work. But what size/gauge do I need? Is 14ct comparable to the perforated paper for the Milll Hill kit?
I cannot for the life of me get the needle threaded that comes with the Mill hOuse kit I am working on for the beads. Trying just one strand but cant get it. Is there a threadeer you would recommend?
Oh I know. That needle is pretty much impossible! I’ve tried threaders before and broke them. Do you have a magnifying glass or something to help see? That’s what I have to do and I snip the thread so it has a nice blunt end to it. Other than that it comes down to luck.
Hi there! I found your videos when I was gifted a mill hill kit and was looking for guidance. It was very helpful, and I finished it way back in Feb. Then of course COVID, and I put the finished piece aside. Now I’d like to frame it, it’s the 5.25 x 5.25 size. I swear somewhere in your videos you suggested a frame that works perfectly for them, but I can’t find again. Was it a Michael’s frame?
Yes it’s from Michael’s. It’s their studio decor brand. It’s the mini shadow box. The frame has a photo of a sleeping dog and cats on it with a blue dog bone.
@@RedCardinalCrafts thank you so much for the reply. I looked on Amazon in the meantime and found mill hill specific ones there. You like these from Michael’s better though?
@@kriskolpin7923 well I like them because they look like all the “ribba” frames I use from ikea. IKEA didn’t have a 6x6 and Michael’s had the closest to those.
Curious but why do you have to do the beading last after all the cross stitch parts are done?
That’s what the instructions say to do and I think it’s because the beads would get in the way.
And it ‘s the fun part to do at the end.
Okay thank you for this tutorial. I'm going to try one
Have you heard of No Count Cross Stitch by Needleartworld.com ?
Joyce Winchenbaugh I heard of no count but never did a cross stitch pattern like that. I did a needle work pattern like that before but didn’t enjoy it as much.
RedCardinalCrafts I just learned about it. I also learned about the diamond dotz from the same company and am hooked on that 😊
