    ABOUT LINNEA ROOKE
    Linnea has been racing locally in the pro category, but until this year she had almost no formal training and was held back by major gaps in her technique. While she was able to carry speed well on straight downhills and high-bermed turns, she lacked foundational cornering skills and was timid in the air. In Feb 2020, she met up with Fluidride to help with a filming trip in Baja, and was fascinated by Simon's teaching methods. Wanting to be part of this mission, she left her career in healthcare in July 2020 to officially join the Fluidride team as COO. We started filming this series to document her journey of cleaning up bad habits, adding new skills to her toolkit, and chasing her dream of riding with style.
    Linnea rides for Evil Bikes: www.evil-bikes...
    ABOUT JASON GAINEY:
    Recently joining the Fluidride team, Jason is an accomplished enduro racer in the PNW. Following many years in BMX and dirt jumping, he picked up mountain biking at age 39 and was soon bringing home pro podiums in enduro! His experience in multiple disciplines also brings a uniquely fun and playful style to his riding.

    Compressing the suspension to be light on the roots is so brilliant! I love the way you guys break down concepts and make them seem simple - you have the best MTB skills videos I've seen.

    Hey Linnea, if one of your goals is improving your race times, can you time yourself on the same run each week (or two) to measure your improvement? I think it’d be great to watch!

    Perfect timing! I live in a desert area, so I don't ride a lot of roots. But, I'm working in Santa Cruz, and I'm riding half speed, because of roots. Great video!

    And another great lesson. Can you give a brief explanation of passive pumping here?

    • @Fluidride
      @Fluidride  4 роки тому +1

      It's essentially moving with the undulations of the terrain without pressing into the basins of the terrain - just letting the bike go without pressuring. Hope that helps!

    • @theweekendworriers3931
      @theweekendworriers3931 4 роки тому

      Thanks, I looked on your pay site and under the Natural Terrain skills section is a passive pumping section. As soon as I saw you on the rollers it really clicked because I recently found passive pumping out of necessity. I was trying to gap 2 new rollers and found I was going way to slow. It was definitely going to be a front wheel case. There is a bermed turn right after the rollers, with a swamp behind it, so I didn’t think pumping through was a good idea so I just relaxed and let the bike come up and let it go down both rollers. I was shocked how fast I came out of the rollers and that I didn’t wreck.

      We certainly can, but the goal of this series is two fold. 1) to break her record down Predator, and 2) to create style in the air. We have climbing videos on our pay site www.fluidrideonline.com, but are happy to do some for YT as well. Just not in this series as it would be really out of place. Stay tuned!

    • @VonSC2
      @VonSC2 4 роки тому

      Actually more to the topic...you nailed the root dilemma for me perfectly. I look at that last big off-camber root in the first rootball and grind my teeth thinking about my front tire slamming into that pocket and hurling me OTB. So when you say 'passive pumping' this means compressing a bit before the first root in the cluster - then unweighting / getting light to launch off that first root to get even lighter? I think other coaches call this a 'bump jump' (see Seth Bike Hacks 'How to Bump Jump a MTB - Get air off roots!' vid). Is that the same thing? Really this is the best root tutorial I've seen yet, thanks guys!

    Am I crazy or did Linnea momentarily sit on the tire at 9:34, going over the log? Looks like she got slightly bucked? I'm guessing this represents being a little too passive in the passive pumping technique?

  • @jazzechos1372

    I would bet real money if you were time the complete run that you would find going around those roots and completing the full run saves both time and keeps more gas in your tank for latter.
