    I’m in the States, she mirrors my exact thoughts. The issue of Critical Thinking starts with the culture and in the homes.
    *Children can’t question parents or elders
    * Wives can’t question husbands
    *Workers can’t question/correct their supervisors or boss
    *You can’t question preachers, priests, traditional practices, and the list goes on.
    You’re not suppose to question just obey, even though things are not working and the negative effects are all around you.
    That’s why it’s easy for us to be taken over in our own countries.

      In other words our African culture is like bandage. As if we grow up in prisons and when we are set free, we are completely lost. Have to start critical thinking skills from the beginning. I have a friend who came here to do her PHD from Africa. Wont say which country. She told me she felt like the dumb one in-class. She said she did not even know how to express her self in the presence of undergraduates. She moved here with confidence but said she lost all that confidence. She was able to finish her PHD but you can still see she struggles.

      @worldcite2836 3 роки тому +4

      I think those who do not value money more than their own blood can organize themselves, start a revolution that will probably plant the seeds for changes. The seeds will then germinate into real changes for the country, people and the future generations. It's very difficult, if not impossible, for any societies or countries to advance without revolutions. For instance, we've got the United States war of independence. Also, each country in Europe has fought a war or various bloody wars. We know of the French revolution, the Franco Prussian wars, the Prussian war of unification of the Germanic tribes. Britain and France fought for 100 years. It's called the punic war. The Chinese revolution, the Korean war, the Bolsheviks revolution in Russia, and the list continues. Africa is the only continent with just one or a very few authentic revolution that brought (or not) some types of changes (a bit relevant or not at all) to the people. Even though Africa is the riches continent on earth some or most of its citizens are in poverty or extreme poverty. Why? And what can be done? I think all the citizens of each African country need to overcome their fears (the only thing they have to fear is fear itself), organize themselves and start a revolution to take back their countries from the dictators and corrupt leaders who have kidnapped their countries, resources, the destinies of their current citizens and the future generations. The governants need to account for their acts, wealth....before and after leaving office.

    As a fellow Kenyan and African, I couldn’t agree more with the young lady’s sentiments. Five years ago, my husbands grand mother gifted me Howard French’s book - Africa China’s second continent. In his book Howard spoke of Chinas neocolonialism of African countries and the African governments willingness to sell bits and pieces of our land and minerals to the west for personal gains.
    I shared the book with fellow African friends who blew it off with the notion that their own countries were not at risk. At that point Kenya had just invited the Chinese in and yet sierra Leonne had lost it’s mines to China and I believe Mozambique it’s Electric company ( I stand to be corrected)
    Right now, We can not boast of generational wealth as our kids will inherited generational debt as the nations leaders are sleeping comfortably having sold out their own.
    As far as people thinking they ‘have arrived’ I know of yet another Harvard Law school Kenyan who was left jobless for years yet boasted of friends in high places who couldn’t even offer her an interview because at the end of it all she was not one of them. A fellow Kenyan Lawyer bailed her out by offering her a job eventually

    As a Kenyan in the USA I agree with Wairish. Can we also talk about the animosity and mistreatment that fellow Africans face from their own once you get here. When you can here you expected unity, guidance, love and motivation only to recieve hell. We barely support each other and it's the reality. People hide information and public resources to avoid having someone else succeed or recieve anything. While some feel they are better than every one else we keep breaking and becoming weak. We forget their is a enough money and resources in the whole world for everyone. If we unite we are strong, powerful, and clearly have some of the best resources that are exploited by people who know our capabilities.

      I find it funny, that I’m not even 40 but I have memories of grandma beating us for saying names of opposition leaders for fear we will be taken at night and be murdered. Fear runs deep in Kenyans and thus they don’t challenge the leaders even when they don’t agree with them.

    It's incumbent upon the youth of Africa and the Diaspora to make the changes, i.e.: We build schools that reject European education and embrace African education. We build our own code of conduct amongst each other. We literally have to reprogram ourselves. Great dialogue!
