I too like the London! It’s a much more wide ranging opening then most players think it is….if you take the time to study it…. The gambits at my lowly level …..such Roussoue and Charlick have given me quite a few wins as well!

It's interesting to see how other people think about openings. It's very different. For example, you're not thinking about what your opponents want, which is probably a strength for you. You're not thinking that if you answer 1. e4 with 1... e5 this will give your opponent the chance to play any romantic opening they may want to play, and you're not thinking that if you answer 1. e4 with 1... c5 your opponent may be happy because now they get to show off how prepared they are to play against the Sicilian Defense. You don't have a social expectation that "in our club everybody plays Opening X." You're just doing your thing, which is good.
What is your main black response to 1 D4?
How does one go about deciding on an opening repertoire as an amateur player (sub 1600)? Should I be sticking with what I feel comfortable with or should I try out different openings/gambits I learn about? I had always heard that until one achieves a fairly high Elo (1800 or so), dedicating hours to studying openings is kind of a waste since at our level, the games tend to be decided by blunders and tactics. Of course, this is just an opinion, but I think many chess coaches would agree with it. That's probably why the London System became highly popular among beginners.
As a total scrub I say just play whatever is fun. I've tried a number of different things, it's been fun. :)
You have Symmetrical Everything as an opening, and I agree that this concept deserves a name. You seem to like that. But it's strange that you don't like to play against the French Defense Exchange Variation, which is a form of symmetry. And even though you play the London, which can be seen as a Slav Defense Reversed, you don't have the Slav Defense at all. As with the French Defense, that has a symmetrical option but White has to volunteer for it. So maybe you feel comfortable with a symmetrical defense when the opponent doesn't choose it and you feel that by imposing it you may be annoying the opponent, but when the opponent gives it to you and is clearly happy to play against a symmetrical position you don't want a symmetrical defense.
The fact that you play the London exclusively and still like chess is pretty impressive.
I'll add to that... In addition to playing the London, I also play the Slav and Caro-Kann, which can both transpose to some sort of London. I feel comfortable playing positions resembling the London
Englund as white and Benoni as white are not correct. These are only openings for black. It is not correct to say "as white" because it is not white's choice to enter into it. It is solely black's choice therefore only black opening.

Play the sicilian dragon for black, the theory is simpler, and alapin is so agressive for white but hard to play, but im having so much fun havingmy opponent on the backfoot for the whole game. You can also play the ponziani variation of the alapin which is quite agressive aswell. My rating could be better with the london or simpler systems like caro but id rather lose more and learn more then get easier wins by playing easier systems like the london.
@@andremarques1088 its not that hard compared to the nadjorf and other Sicilians... Im scoring 70-85 percent on accuracy and barely study..

@@andremarques1088 I lose alot of games on time and what not, but I'm learning alot more than playing basic systems. My logic is to sac Elo for better overall play and learning in the long run.
You also have to think about how hard it is to play against the Sicilian, it's hard on my opponents to score high against it aswell. If my opponent opens with e4, I open with dragon. If opponents opens with d4, I transition into the kings Indian. Both formations are quite similiar and hard to break down. All of my pieces are usually in synch with eachother. I'm not saying I'd have better results with different simpler openings, but I'm learning alot more. I figured if I can slowly progress with these complex openings, playing easy openings will be alot easier. There's an Im on UA-cam who has lots of videos on the dragon and how to play it, he made it alot easier to understand, also most Sicilian players will tell you that theory in the dragon is the easiest to learn and I agree.

She had Fried Liver, which you get to through the Italian. Based on the list, it looks like she avoids 1.e4 in favor of the London and in e4 games would go into the Scotch instead of the Italian (or the Spanish).
7:15 -- by the way, the easiest way to win the pawn back playing the Queen's Gambit Accepted as White is to play the 3. e3 line. I'm 1500 in Rapid btw. Black can try many ideas to hold onto the pawn, and some are tricky so white has to adapt. But ultimately, it is nothing to fear regrading black trying to hold onto the extra pawn. The good news is that you will get the following trap all the time below 1000 and White will win a rook, knight or bishop on Black's queenside with the line. 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e3 b5 4. a4 c6 5. axb5 cxb5 6. Qf3 Also, a general plan for any Queen's Gambit player as white is to achieve pawn e3 to e4 and go for a king side attack.

French is like the worst version you can play. Caro-Kann is pure Godtier compared to the French. For white come on Queen's Gambit is best. Going straight into the Catalan. Also the English is lifetime worth!
