Dave Lombardo is an absolute beast in any band he has played with. Definitely the best metal drummer of all time
Awesome Jamie
Dave Lombardo is one of those drummers that the moment you hear one measure of the drums you immediately know who it is
This is just Dave playing around with his punk chops.... The mans work on many thrash albums are legendary
Love it Jason
Just saw Dave finish up the testament tour here in San Jose CA... Just an hour ago... Dave Lombardo is the fucking goat!!!!! 🐐
Dave Lombardo - Postmortem/Hate Worldwide, Big 4 Yankee Stadium is where it's at!
Thanks for the tip!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Please do more Dave Lombardo! He influenced so many metal drummers from his time in SLAYER, its not funny. Joey Jordison, Brann Dailor, Thomas Haake and ton of others.
F-YEAH 🤘
@@AndrewRooneyDrums dude you have to check this video out man, it has energy, passion and fun, Lombardo is something else, and if I had to pick one video to show off his drumming, it would be that
ua-cam.com/video/vciie1fK0Mw/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/3VbU2sBHM1g/v-deo.html
Lombardo, the only drummer who makes you hear another band when he starts with the thrash beat. It instantly becomes Slayer, doesn't matter what the rest of the band is playing.
HAHA
Have you tried Dead Cross? Pretty unique even with Mike Patton and Dave.
Dude is 58 and slaying it -- no pun intended -- and his technique and economy of motion are remarkable while still maintaining power and a loose dynamic that doesn't sound metronomic like so many death metal drummers do.
His rolls are fast as hell but not monodynamic so they have some character still.
Watching him play it seems clear he could do this another decade or more. There's a calmness and relaxed aspect there.
100% agree! He's in total control
Nobody gives Charlie Benante a reaction he is a superb drummer and totally underrated.
Agree...love Anthrax...S.O.D.and all of the like...Charlie is awesome.
Damn right. Indians will blow any drummers mind.
Charlie's a beast as well.
Charlie is a far more versatile drummer than Lombardo. I really don't understand why people rate Lombardo so high...
Have to totally agree and I'm not much of an anthrax fan but Benante is bloody fantastic.
And one of the coolest things about Lombardo in ST, he seems to have TONS of fun, really cool to see :)
Yup that's important!
This. The man brings this enormous chunk of magnificent groove into the game here and keeps the timing very tight and seems very relaxed and having fun while doing it. There are just some drummers you enjoy watching whatever and wherever they play and I'd say this man is one of them
Ya be cool if he did an infectious grooves album
Kerry King has said a few times, that Dave's drumming adds a a little punk style to Slayer.
Dave lombardo is a legend
Yup!
Always a joy to see Dave Lombardo in action. He always delivers 100% effort and like most super talented people makes it look like it's so easy and he's just cruising.
Dave lombardo , normal thing to give a thumb up, that guy is the goddfather of modern metal drumming
Dave Lombardo is a beast. He has something, in my opinion, which a LOT of metal drummers lack: Dave Lombardo actually grooves like crazy.
Other metal drumer who come to mind who actually groove that much are Tomas Haake and Eloy Casagrande. They want to make your head bop, even if they play a simple groove. So good.
More stuff of Lombardo to check out: The latest Mr.Bungle tracks and his work with fantomas.
Love it! Yes he has groove for sure
Martin Lopez and Ax both groove like motherf*****s too!
I remember seeing Dave Lombardo when he was playing in Fantômas. Crowd at the front was split into 2 groups. 1 group was idolizing Dave Lombardo and the other group Mike Patton :D
HAHA Awesome Marcel
I once saw Fantomas at Roskilde festival. Lombardo was not able to play that stretch of the tour, so they had a reserve drummer instead. The reserve drummer was a world champion at drumming acc. to the concert pamphlet. Hard to find a replacement for Lombardo, but he did a very respectable, albeit a bit mechanical job.
Lombardo is an absolute beast hes the GOAT
As a long time fan of Suicidal Tendencies & Lombardo from his time in Slayer I can tell you his playing elevates this song to another level. Great reaction.
Yup he's just doing a great job here Michael.
Perfect drumming
Love this band makes me want a Pepsi. 😬
Lol
Are you on drugs?
All I wanted was a pepsi and she woudn't give it to me. Classic!
Pepsi?
Listen to institutionalized you'll understand
Finally some Lombardo, but it should have been a Slayer track, really. :D Dave is one of THE quintessential thrash metal drummers, along with Gene Hoglan (you should do some Hoglan if you haven't already). I remember in an interview with a German Metal magazine in the early 90s he was asked how he manages to keep playing those insanely fast double bass parts for 90 minutes straight during a live show, and he said "Well, I just imagine the Nazis are after me and I'm running away as fast as I can". :D
Dave is a fantastic drum machine. Ideal for classical thrash. „Spill the Blood“ is amazing! But for Suicidal is better "black" drummers - much groove, funky ...
Totally agree about Gene Hoglan. Dude is amazing. I'd like to see him react to a Derek Roddy video, as well.
He did Gene Hoglan a while back.
Yeah it's taken a while for someone to pick Dave Lombardo!
At Dawn they Sleep and Haunting the Chapel, he beats the kit like it owes him money.
I love that Lombardo is in five different bands now. The man can't stay off his kit
He's just so good that a good many bands want him. He plays multiple types of music and constantly learning and growing. What an icon. Living legend!
SS has always been intense. One of their calling cards. Dave Lombardo sitting behind the kit raised the intensity level by at least an order of magnitude. The guy is an absolute beast of a drummer and has been for 40 years or so. It’s incredibly hard for me to pick a favorite drum part of his. Always loved his work on War Ensemble, Silent Scream, Alter of Sacrifice, and so many others with Slayer. His work with Grip Inc was also fantastic. Hostage to Heaven is almost comical how good the drumming is. And then there’s this clip you played. He’s always back there just making the band sound infinitely better than it would otherwise. I think you struck the nail on the head too: it’s that he plays perfectly (appropriately) for every song he’s involved with.
Take that with how humble he is and the work ethic… the dude is easily one of my favorite drummers ever. Wish he could have avoided all the bullshit with Slayer (read wish they would have pulled their heads out of their asses and listened to him) because we could have so much more amazing music if theirs with him on it. No offense to Bostaph, but Lombardo is such a better fit and made such better music with them.
Nothing like a bit of punk to wake you up in the morning! Haha! Thanks!
Hey Nathan! Glad to get to the pick my Man!
Toured with them as support when Brooks Wackerman was on drums (brother of Chad Wackerman who played in Zappa). Blew my mind every night, hope there’s a clip of that lineup!
Oh wow. That's awesome Jan!
I've been getting into Bad Religion over the past half year. Brooks Wackerman is another fantastic drummer of the genre.
Was trying to find out if he was related to Chad Wackerman who used to play for Zappa. Turns out their brothers and their other brother John is a pro drummer too. You learn something new every day ha
Was just about to say, all the wackermans are great drummers lol
@@fuzzydunlop1988 saw Chad playing live with Steven Wilson I think. Guy's a monster. And isn't Brooks the Avenged Sevenfold drummer? He's crazy good as well.
Actually Brooks played wit Suicidal Tendencies as well, before he was in Bad Religion. And he played in Infectious Grooves, too.
Anyone with a stud surname like 'Wackerman' is going to automatically be great at drums LOL
Dave is amazing
i'm still waiting for your reaction of dave lombardo war ensemble live at yankee stadium... one of my favourite videos in 16 years of binging youtube drum videos
Suicidal at one point had evolved into pretty much a thrash band. Rocky George was a phenomenal lead guitar player and added lots of intricate, melodic accents. "The art of rebellion" is one of my favorite albums of all time and I've bought many copies since it was released. Lombardo is a perfect fit really and its good to see this band active again.
Yes Dallas. Great stuff man
Man!! Rocky george was years ahead of his time!!! Utterly next level metal guitarist, all the albums he did with suicidal are some of my favourites of all time
Yes, and The Art of Rebellion remains one of the best metal albums from that period. The drums are fantastic there, but no drummer is mentioned on the CD's booklet. Anyone knows who plays on it?
@@vinterskog Josh freese
@@estelombo Thanks, how did you get the info?
your words are so kind for every drummer... i can't imagine how it can change doing reactional video of Lars Ulrich playin' nowadays :D
I try and keep it positive. Wouldn't go down well for me to 'critique' far better drummers and more famous ones than myself :)
Haven't caught Lars for a while...
That steady ride though.🤘😎👍🏻
"If you wanna learn how to rock, you gotta learn how to swing."
-Neil Peart
Watching Dave play gives me hope, as an “oldhead” pushing 50🤦🏻🤦🏻😔, to keep doing what I’m doing and getting busy behind the kit! I remember seeing Dave play with Slayer back in 1988, at a small little venue in downtown Dallas. Killed it then, still killing it now! Definitely one of my major influences, when I first decided to make music my life! I remember learning to play every song on the Hell Awaits and Reign In Blood albums! The absolute joy when I nailed every song. Just made me that much more motivated and driven to make the commitment, which is what being a serious musician is all about, to take my playing to a whole other level!Thank you, Dave, for inspiring this metalhead to follow my dreams! Thank you, Paul, for your great reactions, your love for drumming is evident, and makes me want to practice!!! Slaytanic Wehrmacht, MFers!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Dude you crack me up with the little innuendos you put in. Keep these coming
Thanks, will do Dave! HAHA
How he perfectly maintains the tempo. Brilliant.
BEAST
Fellow kiwi here. Dave has always been my favourite drummer! Tireless, technical, his roll and fill style is called 'falling through the drums', no one does it quite like him. He has also dabbled in jazz and punk and even symphonic percussion. Gene Hoglan and Igor Cavalera are great drummers to check out too 👌
Wow that' a beauty half way through...new for me, thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Suicidal lost Robert Trujillo to Metallica but got Slayers Lombardo instead...
YES!
Dave is absolutely one of the best!!
Yup he's a legend of the scene Douglas for sure
@@AndrewRooneyDrums damn right
You should dive into Dave's drumming in Slayer's South of Heaven. Songs like Behind the Crooked Cross and Ghosts of War truly show his speed and groove.
Thanks for the tips Gian!
Drums , Coffee , Lombardo , and your channel ! Better than Bacon in the morning ! Have a great day from Missouri USA !
Good morning Wade!
Glad you're digging it
Lombardo is a great, solid metal / rock drummer. His drumming in Slayer’s “Season of The Abyss” is incredible.
Thanks for the tip Alexandre
I am a drummer...i saw that video been upload it by you sir...i went to the kitchen to prepare lunch bu t the video kept playing....and just when i returned the video was on 2:29
Thats what i call perfect timing.............................................................................
Great 👍
Dave Lombardo was a main reason I switched from guitar to drums in 1984 after hearing Show No Mercy. His double bass blew my 13 year old fucking mind and I sucked at guitar anyway.
HAHA. You made a great switch :0
I have to agree. Really clean and crisp, with speed!! Impressive!! 😁
Yes Sharon!
Love his drumming of slayers "seasons in the abyss" and "dance with the dead" the whole album is good really and the drums sound great
Love Suicidal. Love Dave. really wish i could see this combo. Suicidal released two fantastic thrash albums...How Can i Laugh Tomorrow...and...Lights, Camera, Revolution!
Awesome video! As a guitarist I pour through drum reactions due to the fact imo, the drummer is the backbone to a great rhythm as well as an integral part of the collective whole. With that said I'm a huge Tommy Aldridge fan and I'd love to see you react to.... "
Iconic drummer Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake) steals the show at Remo Drummer Night"... Diggin' what you do brother. Keep killin' the skins! Liked and subbed! Peace.
you're a great guy 🤘😀 and bet you're a great drummer and teacher too..... you're respect for every drummer is great.. ✌🤘😁
I appreciate that!
HI! if you want to make a video reaction about Lombardo listen ''Hostage to Heaven'' with Grip Inc and ''Silent Scream'' with Slayer. These two are his top level drumming in the history of Thrash Metal.
Thanks Nikos!
Outside of Slayer, I can also recommend Dave Lombardo on the track "Heretic War Chant" by Grip, Inc. Beast mode. Godfather of double bass.
Can't wait to check out more
man, you have to do the 2nd part of the video... Subliminal. i love Dave's drumming
Im Happy to say I caught Lombardos Drum stick when I seen him play with S.T. in Garden Grove Ca. 👊😎
Yessss! 🥁🙌
Joey Castillo is another beast on the kit.
Haven't checked him out yet!
Mr Lombardo never disappoints.
He's one of the best drummers out there. Check out his stuff with Slayer. It's very fast, technical, and intense. He's also one of the fastest double bass players you'll listen to.
Another awesome reaction
Yo thanks!
You watched through all of em!?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums LMAO Almost! How you explain, and analyze makes me get on my kit... Often I just have the reaction playlist playing then I see something I might be able to do (a real simple groove) then try it for a bit then hit play haha 😂 also just got heads so been tuning and cleaning to the Playlist 👍🏼👍🏼 just got my set about 2 months ago. Also just straight entertainment at it's finest from you and the drummer!
I loved Lombardo's past history when he was asked to talk about Lars. "He's a good drummer". HA HA HA. He once said he wanted to give Lars lessons. HA HA HA
Ouch!
Dave is fuckin fast & aggressive drummer . Drummer who matches with any bands . Also good person bout personality .
Dave's ride cymbal is a custom one called the 'reign'.
Oh right!
....In Blood
Check out the song living for life by these guys with Dave Lombardo. The fills are crazy
Thanks Zach!
In the dictionary under the definition of overqualified it's merely a picture of Dave Lombardo playing with ST and the Misfits.
Highly recommend DJ spooky & Dave Lombardo - Drums of death
Thank you!
Always luv me some ST! Cheers from🇨🇦🤘
Hey there!
fml, Paiste Rude series are a bunch of crazy aggressive cymbals... *I love them*
I have literally randomly typed in this song with Dave to see any reaction and there it is. Doesn't happen very often hahah
GREAT!
you gotta see video of Dave jammin at Modern Drummer when it's just him & his kit on stage he's just insane to watch, even if you dont do the review thing watch his modern drummer set
Rad! Suicidal has long been a favorite of mine, you should definitely watch some Eric Moore vids, because they are very positive and all about self reliance. Very cool video, man!
Thanks Noah!
Lombardo the legend!
100%!!!
¡NEED NOW! LOMBARDO DRUM CAM SLAYER BIG 4 YANKEE STADIUM.
Hope to get to it Torian!
Lombardo rocks the skins.
Indeed!
Dave is great. Not sure it was the best choice to showcase his skills. He's not the most technical drummer, especially by today's standards but he's a real heavy hitter with incredible energy, very consistent, fast, always pushing the music. Also keep in mind he's 55. Maybe try some Fantomas stuff next time.
Thanks for the tip! And yes certainly doesn't need to be complicated to be good
I'd say Dave can be quite technical if the music calls for it. But he mainly plays exactly what he feels the song calls for.
Ya..I'd like to see you play it..
@@jimfarrar4925 I'm not belittling him or his performance, he's one of my all time favorite drummer, I'm just saying he's not the "typical modern ultra-technical death metal" type (which is far from my favorite type btw)... He's a beast, a hard fast hitter, he's amazing.
@@kutnersuicideI don't get the adoration for Lombardo at all... He is fast, but his playing is extremely generic... Gene Hoglan, Sean Reinart, Vinnie Paul, Mario Duplantis, Gar Samuelson, Richard Christy, Sean Reinart, Danny Carey. etc. I can think of so many versatile metal drummer's that are far more talented, groovy, musical, etc... I don't get it.
Warrrrr....
Inside my fvcking headdd.!!!!!
HAHA!
Dave Lombardo formed a band post Slayer.... Grip Inc. Badass debut his drumming essentials
Thanks Jose!
One thing to note is that he is sitting ridiculously low! I did that when I started out, because I had no idea what I was doing, so when I many years later realized Lombardo was doing the same (and I wasn't anymore), it blew my mind! It shouldn't be possible playing so fast bass drums sitting like that. Remember, he has to lift his leg above ninety degrees. It's crazy hard.
Honestly, I looove that snare tone...
My dyslexic drum teacher played in a thrash metal band. He turned me on to Dave with Slayer in the early 90's. It was my first exposure to that type of playing. I immediately went out and bought a 9 piece Tama Art Star kit and started trying to play everything that Slayer had. I would have probably given up on drumming if it hadn't been for Dave Lombardo. Dave is truly a legend!
Awesome story
Check out fantomas with Dave Lombardo and Mike Patton ... this man is why I started drumming 20 years ago ! Thx man
Was he the OG drummer in that band Don?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums yep ... to my knowledge... I saw them live in Hollywood at a very small venue, stood right in front of them ... It was super intense !
Suicidal tendencies r a crossover thrash metal band awesome band dave lombardo is one of the best drummer in metal awesome listen to slayer seasons in a abyss dave drumming is awesome in that song
Fairly dynamic single stroke 16ths on the long fill at 8:40. Too many rock drummers would have ruined that with no dynamics. But that snare drum angle is just making him work harder to bend his wrists for a good strike IMO.
Nice observation!
I was fortunate enough to sit down behind Dave’s Slayer kit a couple of times, and I get what you mean, looking at. But when you sit down behind his kit, it’s set up absolutely perfect, for HIM. You know how it is, man. Ha ha.
This style is pure hardcore-punk. Lombardo is a serial drumset killer. He fits perfectly.
Lookup Rocky George now in Fishbone but made this band along with Robert Trujillo and the drummers name escapes me but we are talking late 80s into very early 90s line up
The 2:13 fill is awesome
Dave is too good
Look one of the craziest drummers of all time is Dave Lombardo You need to check out any song off of south of heaven, by Slayer Don't mess around dude, I'm going to say south of heaven, or silent scream
i honestly dont know how Dave does it....dude is like 100 years old and doesnt break a sweat. i cant even walk a flight of steps without being out of breath
War Ensemble Live is epic
I bet!
Suicidal Tendencies have been doing this way before Rage Against the machine , try 1980 , Mike Muir and Co. have influenced many bands , legendary performers 😎
Right on!
He puts groove into metal
Yes Ray!
Good call on the punk sound of ST. I think of their early work as closer to American Hardcore, whereas their later music became more Metal.
Nice one James!
Just a beast. Check out a guy named Yanic Bercier when he drummed for Quo Vadis. He was only like 19 at the time that they did most of their stuff. Song called On The Shores of Ithaka. Killer stuff. He still drums, ive seen a fairly recent video he made. Nothing like Quo Vadis, but exceptional nonetheless.
Thanks for the tip! 👌
Dave Lombardo -- Postmortem/Hate Worldwide -- Big 4 Yankee Stadium. This is Lombardo in his element with Slayer.
Thanks Scott! 🥁🤜
We are still waiting for St Merat even when we know you already know him so it wouldn't make it a real reaction but we want to listen to your input on his playing.
cheers mate!
Hope to get to that real soon!
Dave Pete Sandoval eloy all represent over and above in metal
This band is so underrated, people stopped to listen to their albums because the line-up changed, but it's still dope though
And I was so glad to see Dave Lombardo join them, because this guy can chose nearly any band after Slayer but he chose them and it's not by mistake
Awesome Fyodor! Yes I know Dave is so respected in the scene.
Kia ora bro I've seen ST at the auckland town hall and the power station slayer and fantamus as well
What you said man though for Latin American drummers, yes it's true, Dave Lombardo slayer, iggor cavalera sepultura , Pete Sandoval morbid angel, they are all legends, they are the building blocks of today's hard mosic, and Latin American bands have a more animalistic tribal sound to them, bands like sepultura, sadistic intent etc
It's funny you mention Latinos in heavy music on a ST track. The band has had a handful of non-Latino members in their 30 year history.
Yeah Dan! The Latinos are all over it! 🥁🙌
Ian Paice, Bill Ward, Brann Dailor...
and for the love of .... when will the 4 on the floor master Phil Rudd get in the review?
Awesome!
Phil Rudd. Best pocket in rock Jim!
Dave is the doble bass drum king so everybody who plays metal drums knows it
Drummers that play to the song tend to be peoples favorites. Dave L and Dave G both do that well, there are many others like Mike B.
Byron Mcmackin drums for California punk band Pennywise. Very fast, very clean. Love his style of playing. I think you may like too. Keep up the good work.
You missed the sick fill at 5:30. So flowing and natural
Yes!!! Appropriate!!! Perfect word, right and tight = Appropriate. Goes for all instruments really, but drums especially.
Tim Yeung also playing for Morbid Angel. Prior drummer Pete Sandoval
Lombardo is the guy that modern metal drummers cite as a major influence.
