How to Send Meta Facebook Pixel Events via the Conversion API (Using Zapier)

  • The conversion API is a new way to send Facebook events into the FB ad system. You might have done this via the normal Facebook pixel, but how can you send data from places where you can't install a pixel, like on a Google form?
    In this video, Cedric Potvin from Vertex Marketing Agency is going to show us how to do it using Zapier.

    Oh man, great video, he was so close to answering the question that 99% of marketers are actually looking for, which is a LEAD event and how to choose EVENT ID correctly to avoid duplication... so close...

      Where you able to find a way to send the event id via zapier? Because on the pixel tracking setup.. I find out that the event id is unique for each lead or conversion event.
      How do I automatically get each unique event id and add it to zapier?

    If we use this method, should we also do the normal pixel set up alongside it? (with agg event measurement etc)? or is the zapier method alone enough?

    Thanks for putting up this video! been really helpful so far.
    I have a question here on the EventID and i've been searching high and low for answers on this.
    Question:
    1. Is EventID a unique string where we can just insert ourselves or is there anywhere where we retrieve the eventID from?
    2. Does this EventID have to be different for different purchases? (dynamic) or is it a constant value through all purchases?
    Really hope that you'll be able to provide me with some answers on this. Thanks!

      Looking for this answer to! Specifically to part 1 as I believe the EventID must be dynamic or else FB will think they are all duplicates. My question is how do we retrieve the eventID from the FB pixel in order to use it in the Zap.

    If the event is not from Fb traffic, will that be counted and attributed as a fb ad conversion?

    It makes sense to set this up once you have data to Map. I'm doing this on Stripe, but it's on a new plan that doesn't have any sales as of yet. So I need to wait until I get a sale in, in order to set this up and map out the things correctly

    I exactly did what you explained.
    But when I try to trigger an event with zapier (with the Test Event Code) :
    1/ Zapier tells me that an event has been sent ...
    2/ nothing happens facebook side.
    Do you know why ?

      @@edabuyuk8076 Hi. If it can help ... i found the reason. It was an event timestamp problem. Zapier pushed an european timestamp instead of UTC so Facebook conversion API thought it was in future.
      I had to convert the event timestamp to UNIX timestamp.
      And now all is okay.

      @@OlivierCoachWebmarketing Sadly it doesn't work. Timestamp is in Unix too. Zapier says it's sent succesfully, but I receive no data in Facebook.

    Based on your expertise, how long (dev hours) do you think it would take an average development team to implement CAPI on and average Shopify or Magento (Commerce) eCommerce website?

      Most GDPR/CCPA/POPI regulations will create issues. Generally, our CAPI solution is entirely encrypted and even FB cannot decrypt it, they encrypt the data instead to match the event which makes it completely compliant.

      Ideally, the setup should have the deduplication parameter. I would say you should use a GTM based config, and definitely send both Pixel and CAPI events with the dual setup to avoid deduplication. If the event match score is really low, audit it, or worst case reach out to me!

      you would need to provide them the details like email adress or fbclid. The match rate goes up the more data you provide

    How come you didn’t talk about hashing the customers information. Facebook won’t accept the data unless you hatch it. Hashing is the most important part of this transfer

    Thanks so much for this video it helped explain this set-up. I am so confused by my results though... in Zapier it shows that my Zap has run successfully 92 times meaning there would have been 92 conversions, yet when I check the custom conversion that I've set up in Facebook Events Manager, I see only 60. And worse, when I look at the number of conversions in my Ad Set (using that custom conversion) it shows only 28. What's going on here? Why are the numbers not matching? Is there something I've set up incorrectly?

    you don't have to remove the eventcode.. it is ignored when the zap is on

      You still use the Facebook pixel but in this video I show you how to send an event via the server (conversion API) instead of browser.
      I found that sending a lead or purchase event via the conversion API works best for B2C than B2B because Facebook has a harder time matching business emails with Facebook accounts.

      But even Facebook strongly says to send events via both Pixel and Conversion API until the pixel is working. Zapier lacks a strong deduplication front and isn't entirely 1st party based. Better safe then sorry!

    Interesting, thanks! Would you guys please consider to make one with de-duplicated events? I’d like to send both to make sure Facebook is getting the most conversions as possible. But I’m not able to use a unique event ID (same for normal conversions and server side)

      Finding the event id is not a problem. But getting it dynamically onto zapier is the problem! Because it's not static
