@@themoroskyfamily9586I'm sure you figure this out by now, if not in my experience it's a two-handed pole so you're not adding pressure on one side and not the other. Be careful, on the inside is a metal lip that is quite sharp. I cut my finger pretty good.
@@themoroskyfamily9586 I had a hard time too. It didn't pop out like the video. I found it eventually came out easier as I rotated the drum to find a sweet spot, when it eventually came out. Very helpful nonetheless. Thank you @SOBIsHobbies
Excellent video. Knew the cap came off, but unsure how to remove without breaking. Your video made the clean out easy. Thanks. Now if only LG had put this in the manual; or, designed the machine for easy cleaning…
There is a slot on the side of the cap (not the holes on the top that he used). Slide a flat head screwdriver in that slot and pry it up. You’ll have a better chance of not breaking it. No guarantees though.
I had the same problem as many other people. I could get the cap off, get the screw out, but the washplate wouldn’t budge. However, I just got it out, and here is how: I poured about two cups of vinegar in there and let it sit an hour. I read all 195 of these comments and there was ONE comment that helped me by @kulasnikov3875 and it was to add screws. So I found two #8 ceiling hooks and screwed them into the center plastic existing holes firmly (not the metal), and then gripped those hooks with pliers and pulled straight up. The reason it wouldn’t budge is because there was so much gunk underneath the washplate. Hope this helps you. Good luck.
@heyou429 if anyone is reading this in the future and has the wt901 model, you can't pull it out like this guy in the video. There's nothing to grab really. I was able to get it out using two pliers.
Before you follow @leannesliva6550 instructions. Just pour 2 cups of vinegar in the tub and run it on tub clean mode. That did the trick and made the large silver disc to come loose
So...90% of our washable shower curtain liner got caught under this plate due to [we assume] the little metal weights sewn in it; lesson learned. My husband and I have 34 years of marriage under our belts and have lived in this same home for 30 years. Yet here we are, hovering over our 4 year old washing machine, one phone being used as a flashlight the other here on UA-cam, looking like Bert and Ernie from Seseme Street, trying to solve [what should have been] a simple problem. 😅 (Glad to see we're not alone having this issue!) ...ok I'm off to get the vinegar. Thank you for the tip! UPDATE: ...VINEGAR WORKED!!!!!😮 WOW!!!! 😃 You don't need a lot, either. (Turns out my vinegar stash was low - I only had about 2 cups worth.) I carefully poured the [about an ⅛ cup equivalent] vinegar around (but not in!) the center hole where the bolt sits. You could do this before even removing the bolt. We waited 50 minutes (because we're impatient) and with a few gentle tugs-it came straight out! ANOTHER TIP: This may be an already-known suggestion - but we used (don't laugh) weed whacker line as the means to pull the plate up. We were afraid of damaging the plate so we wanted to be as gentle as we could be. Being plastic, I didn't think it was gonna be strong enough, but it thread through the 3 holes just fine. I tied a square knot (tension held it together once I started pulling) and, putting the screwdriver underneath the knot, I used it as a makeshift handle to pull up the plate. I suppose it didn't snap because the force was distributed equally between the holes. Washing machine is runnin' just fine in the background as I type this. 😊
I can’t thank you enough for posting this video. My laundry was funky! I put the cleaning tablets in the tub, clean the filters on the hose inlet valves, and nothing worked. For like a month. I thought I must’ve been missing another filter somewhere but the tub looked like one piece. I had no idea this wash plate was removable until I saw your video. I’ve owned this machine for about seven years, so you can imagine what I found under the wash plate! It took me about an hour to get all that gunk cleaned out of there. I’m running another cleaning cycle in the tub, now that the gunk is out. I can’t wait to re-wash all these funky clothes!!!! Thank you!
Just a small tip for removing the plastic chrome cap. There is actually a small notch on the side of the cap. You can feel around it and when you find it, you can then put you screw driver underneath it and it will easily pop right up. Not having to worry about breaking a tap. Hope it helps with adding to your vidio.
OMG I think we are the only people in the world to have this washer. I couldn't find another video about this. I haven't ever cleaned this out and after months of me begging husband to do it, we did and IT WAS FREAKING DISCUSTING. No wonder why my clothes never smelled good no matter what I bought. THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this video!
1:37 omg I thought my washer was going off but it was the video 😂 and I’ve had this thing for 10 years & never knew this…soI can’t wait to see what’s inside there
Thank you so very much. We gutted our laundry room and redid it but before putting my machine in I followed your tutorial and whelp I broke one of the pins off the cap, ordered a new one off Amazon and it came the next day. Rest was smooth sailing and after years of washing it was filthy but I used the Dawn power, qtips, scrub brush and scrubbing lysol wipes and cleaned perfectly. Threw in a washing machine cleaner after putting it back together and it's literally like I just bought a brand new smelling washing machine.
Extremely helpful video. Also, I used three pair of fingernail clippers. I inserted the rounded but sturdy metal lever into the initial cap's three openings. With the fingernail clipper lever straight down, it did not break anything, but was sturdy enough to very easily lift up that round center cap.
Very helpful video. Thank you. Different model but all the same. A tip for getting the big center section out. Below the cap you will see small holes where the pegs on the cap slot into (on mine there was). Feed a couple of small zip ties in and out, of the holes. 2 done it for me and mine was well stuck. Make it so you have 2 loops with the zip ties and just lift it out. Do the same putting it back, hold the loops and lower it in. Once done cut the zip ties off. So much easier and no scratches or rough edges.
@@Emilioo72Zip ties aren't working . Tub cycle with the cap and screw off not working. My arms are aching but unable to get it off. Ping me if you were able to get it off.
I've had this machine close to 5 years and followed your tutorial, awesome. Yes, I did the same thing and broke the little tab but ordered 2 on Amazon for $16 👍
I know, those caps are quite flimsy and can easily break even with a minimal effort. 😅 But I’m glad that everything else worked out for you. Thank you for your feedback!
I have an LG washer about12 months old which started to have sludge. The centre cap was much easier to remove, the lugs holding it are not as big. Then the bolt on the agitator was still 10 mil. The agitator was very easy to lift out and my wife just used white Vinegar to clean it. There was no sign of any rust and it came up like new. This video gave me confidence to attempt the job.
I had the same problem with getting the large top plate off as it was stuck. I seen a UA-cam short video in which the person ran a tub clean cycle with the plastic cap and screw removed. I did exactly that and midway through the tub clean cycle the plate came up and started floating in the water. No need for screws or pry tools, etc. I just let the cycle finish without the plate inside and cleaned it up and followed the rest of the steps in this video.
This is the comment I was looking for. I am trying the same thing and decided to look and see if anyone else had the same idea. Glad to know it might work!! Cheers!
I will give that a try. I've done EVERYTHING to try and get the PULSATOR loose, with no success at all. Also, it would seem to me, that if you can run the unit with the bolt REMOVED, then they're is really no need for the blue LockTight.
Thanks for posting. I truly hate our LG washer. It’s ruined some of my clothes and we have to manually add water to it before we close the lid, otherwise it barely uses enough water to actually clean our clothes. Wish the just made washing machines like they used to.
Not sure if you’ll read this. I was having a water level issue as well. So puzzling, but I found that if I use the “bulky cycle” with the “ cold tap water” option, it fills up. I’m new to this machine so I’m still experimenting but that’s one of the ways I found to get a good was in.
Very helpful tutorial. Was able to complete this on my own washer from start to finish in under an hour. The tips to ensure safe removal and re-installation were clutch.
Great video. Our is 11 years old and never had a deep clean like this. Just getting the cap off was a struggle. It was vile underneath. 🙈 We couldn't get the main plate off after removing the bolt so I may try to soak some vinegar and baking soda oneday after a tub clean. This machine is a soldier.
Great video. His advice worked perfectly. His advice is easy to follow and complete. Surprising amount of dirt accumulated that I was able to remove. If you have an LG washer in your house, you need this video.
To get the first cap off I found putting a flat head into the slot and working my way around using all three slots helped. I have a tug at one slot and then moved and worked it loose that way. No damage to the cap
Thank you so much for posting this!!! We are not mechanically inclined, but your video made this fairly easy. We just did this today. The machine is 10 yr old and we weren't good about cleaning it. OMG, the gunk in there!!! We followed your steps exactly and managed not to break the plastic cap piece. We thoroughly cleaned what we could and put it back together. The only thing is that, you will likely inadvertantly loosten some dirt underneath the metal piece and not be able to reach it. So after you do this cleaning, I recommend baking soda and vinager runs. And then a clear water run. I think after that, we should see a big improvement. After this, we will be washing the washing maching every 2 weeks!! Thanks again!
This was SO much more helpful than the manual! Ant thank you for the suggestion to clean periodically with backing soda & vinegar. You and your wife make a great team! :)
Thanks for the video! Our washing machine was leaking. I used the cleaning cycle 2 and still leaked. I had to have my husband get the bolt out. But the plate thingy was stuck. So I thought hooks,I just bought a bunch of cheap hooks for my plants. I screwed in 2 the last wholes on opposite sides and gave my husband some thin rope and it worked. It was sludge underneath, probably softener. I also cleaned the holes where the bleach runs into, and soap, softener dispenser. I just did the clean cycle and it’s not leaking. So thanks!
Omg I’m getting the brown flakes too. If the brown flakes smear it looks like crayon marks/stains. Just horrible when it happens to my white sheets & clothes. I just found this video and am sharing with my husband to give it a try. Thank you for the video @SOBIsHobbies !
So i do my own tricks, all fixing of everything in my house (single mom and stubborn)Thank you for making this video. Very easy to understand and follow. Step stools are our friend! Lol I didn’t even know to clean this part 😅I just did it today and it was terrible, so glad I did it. Will be a monthly chore now.
Thank you very much, particularly for the tip and honesty about being careful not to damage the cap. I'm sure that has saved many of us in having to get a replacement part.
Thanks for the video. It took me and my dad an hour to get the screw off because it was sealed with Loctite. Needed to use an impact driver and we almost gave up. Just a warning to anyone else who can't get it to budge.
@@sarahfarnsworth8488 my tub clean is printed very small on the " fabric softener" button and you hold it for 5 seconds until it dings. That's the tub cleaning cycle.

Thank you for this video. We were able to clean out our washer with your help. we did have trouble with the wash plate like others mentioned but I added some vinegar as someone suggested and let it soak a bit and then between my husband and son's strength it came out. thank you again.
You are obviously a genius and your wife must be very proud of you 👍. FYI... You need to add a "Super Thanks" link in your video. That way folks can leave you a little "tip" money. If half of your viewers gave a $1 you would have $250k. You deserve every penny!! Also LG should be calling and thanking you for saving their washer reputation! LG has a great washer but this was definitely and EZ fix they should let all owners know about.
@@luv102795 Thank you very much for such kind words! I really appreciate it. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting my video to become so popular at the time of its making. I just wanted to help others with similar issues that we were having. And that is still my ultimate goal with all of my contents. I would be lying if I said I didn’t care to make extra financial profit off of it but that’s only relevant if my videos actually provide a value to the viewers and help this community to become a better place for everyone as its original intent was. Some viewers did send “Super Thanks” in the past to some of my other videos but perhaps this one was not turned ON. I just did that after seeing your comment. Anyway, thanks again for your very kind and encouraging comment! This means a lot to me, more than anything really because this proves that I’m still being loyal to my original goal! Have a Happy Holiday season! Cheers!
Nice video. Followed your example and all worked well. However, before I started this process, I ran a tub, clean with baking powder first which seemed to clean out a lot of the gunk. Then I used your tutorial to do the rest. Now the final step is using the tub clean cycle with vinegar.
If you do you use Loctite when replacing the bolt, make sure you use the BLUE Loctite (which is meant to keep bolts from loosening due to vibration,, etc). Red Loctite is meant to keep a bolt permanently in place and can make it nearly impossible to remove without special tools.
Thank you for the video. I have been waiting for something like this before I opened up my washer to figure out the issue. This made it really helpful. Appreciate your efforts
Also wanted to check for how long can we keep baking soda and vinegar in the drum before we rinse it? There is still some residue left between the metal and plastic and we want to make sure the soda mixture doesn’t impact the metal/plastic permanently. Please advise.
@@rajeevjosh great question. 👍 I would say couple of hours should do the trick. But then again I doubt it’s going to be possible to get rid of all the sludge that’s been collected. I found this replacement cylinder on Amazon: UPGRADED Lifetime Appliance AGZ72909711 Washplate Pulsator Assembly Compatible with LG, Kenmore, Sears Washer - AGZ72909702 a.co/d/cuuw9k0 I haven’t ordered one yet. We’ll try to use our current one as long as we can. Once it reaches to the point where those residues become impossible to remove at all then I’m going to order this new one to replace it. Please make sure that it will work with your washing machine model before ordering one should you be interested. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for posting this. I've been so frustrated with my machine, no easily accessible filters & doesn't leave clothes as clean as my old machine (that was made in the olden days, no plastic, built to last)
Thank you for this! Also thank you to the others who commented on how to remove the wheel if it was stuck, mine was. Using the #8 screws and some pliers did the trick after letting it soak for a few minutes in vinegar. So disgusting, so thankful its now clean! Looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes with our clothes!
Thank you for this video! I've looked many times for a way to clean the washer and was so excited to find your solution. It was so satisfying to get all that junk out. Here's hoping for cleaner clothes!!
@@YellowCyan2 you’re just going to have to pull it harder straight upwards. As long as you removed the bolt and the washer there shouldn’t be anything else that would hold the bottom piece. It should come off at that point.
Ours was 5 at the time of this video. 😅 I did have to put some effort to get that piece out too. So don’t be too annoyed about it. After extensive use for several years some times they get stuck and whatnot. Just be patient and do your best. Good luck!
Thank you so much for posting this step by step!! I have exact same machine and almost bought a new one when it started leaving brown flakes on my clothes. Turns out it just needed a deep clean (more than just the tub cleaning cycle). Thank you!!
You saved my marriage! LOL ! I called the LG support they told me to use the washing machine cleaner 2-3 cycles but it didn’t work, even worse the gunk floating in the washer drum. My husband and I argued about his bad choice on top load washing machine! Thank you extremely helpful video and carefully explained on all the “got ya”
Fantastic video bro! Have a similar model, but same drum and inside arrangement. The plastic hub cap has three small prying tool insert cuts in it. I didn’t know about that before watching this video. But I took picture using the phone too get a closer look. So I didn’t use the water draining slots you used to pry it out. Luckily I broke nothing. But thanks a lot for this video!
One thing I rarely see discussed is that I leave my washer door open, until it’s dry. I don’t actually close it when it’s a top load washer. It keeps the machine from getting that funky smell when the moisture causes mildew. And I use vinegar as my rinse agent. I never use fabric softener or dryer sheets in my machines. I find that using vinegar in the rinse cycle, means my towels and such are cleaner and the fabric softeners don’t build up on the fabrics. The towels stay absorbent, and the vinegar smell doesn’t hang around.
Thank you for this video. I did everything you said. Cleaned everything out. I did a tub sanitizing cycle. And I’m still getting those little flaky, dirty debris. I am at a loss and so frustrated. Your video was awesome. I did everything you said. Then I ran sanitizing and I’m still getting the little flakes.
Thank you for mentioning the brown flakes, I have that problem too😫. No one else seems to mention this issue. Did you figure out how to remove the brown flakes?
, yes, ultimately I had to remove the entire drum from the machine. And scrub it down outside. I ultimately replaced the agitator piece because there was crud inside of it that could not be cleaned out.
@@MC-ou7fy How did you remove the entire drum? Older models have a plastic ring on top of the drum that can easily be removed (by pressing on plastic tabs), but this particular model with the "Smart Drum" and "Direct Drive" seems to have screws instead. Would appreciate if you could five some info on how to remove the entire drum. Thanks!
Just purchased an LG that looks like yours. It's model number wt7150. Had I known it was this complicated I never would have purchased it! I'm not tall enough to reach in to do this. About how often does anyone think this thing needs to be cleaned out? Thank you for showing us this important step that was never mentioned in the store.
I did it for the first time in like almost 5 years. If you maintain it well and do cleaning cycles as the owner’s manual calls for you shouldn’t have to worry about this all that often. These are great washing machines. I think you’ll like yours too. Don’t let this process scare you. If you take care of it well you may not even have to do this for several years to come. Hope this helps! And enjoy your new washing machine!
Maybe helpful tip: I'm about 5'6 and I can just barely reach down there. I used a little step stool (short, one-step folding kind) and that made all the difference! I could bend down inside and get to it without issue.
Im short and i struggle to get in to the bottom of the machine .. lol.. i had a fuzzy logic for 18 yrs without a glitch. Purchased this one based on my trust of the brand..
Here in the comments section few viewers had mentioned they applied various methods/techniques to remove the pulsator. I’d recommend trying one or more of those methods to remove the agitator in your washing machine. In my case, ours came out rather effortlessly as you could see in the video. Thanks.
I think the reason this "scrud" accumulates is the exit point of the hose is higher than the bottom of the tub... so, trapped water not fully discharged is allowed to sit. My thinking is -you lower that exit point -so it's about the height of the pump -an inch or two above the floor, and then the sitting water will sit in the lowest loop of the hose, like a P-trap. I just cut a bit of the steel body with some tin snips so I could drop the hose down. Also, the design of the agitator is SO stupid -allowing scrud to collect between the stainless top plate and the plastic plate it's pressed to. After carefully bending the circumference of the steel plate away from the plastic, I separated the two -cleaned the plastic part well, and just installed the plastic part by itself without the steel plate. The plastic seems tough enough to endure the abrasion of zippers and rivets, etc. Since the little "hub cap" won't go back on the plastic, I just cut a piece of polycarbonate (plexi-glass) and screwed it onto the plastic with a rubber gasket in between. Just about to run a test wash, but I think these fixes will help eliminate future issues. (still shaking my head at the terrible design.)
Thank you for the video. Cleaning stuff for my parents and don't want to ask Dad for help becausw he will just do it himself. I was very gentle with the plastic piece and wiggled it in each of the holes, and it came out easily after 5 gentle wiggles. Very nasty in there, don't think it had ever been cleaned. Hope this gets rid of the smell.
This is a helpful video and prevented me from damaging the "cap" over the bolt. I have removed both of them and the "hub cap" at the bottom of the tub does not lift out even with a lot of pressure exerted. My washing machine is slightly different than yours (older or newer, I think newer, came with the house) and there seems to be an additional vinyl white threading for the bolt that also holds it in place and needs to be removed. I don't want to pull too hard.
@@SOBIsHobbies I am looking at it some more and once you have it off the white piece on yours and mine look really similar. I am going to try giving it a hard pull.
@@momojo3459 😂 not sure about that. Not to mention I haven’t gone back to gym since pandemic lockdowns. Mainly been doing workouts at home. But anyway, I don’t know why it wouldn’t come off… makes me wonder if ours is a different model than yours.

@@Elcheapo-og2ig If you’re talking about that metallic plastic center cover piece then I would say yes because it helps to keep the center screw/bolt covered from other elements. Hope this helps.
@Elcheapo-og2ig No worries. Yes, if I were you I would try to cover the center piece with its plastic/metallic part. Otherwise, as you have said there’s a possibility of clothes getting caught by the agitator in the middle when the drum is spinning.
THANKS for making the video and sharing how to clean LG washing machine...but...I discovered 2 things: 1) putty knife is easier than a screwdriver to remove the oval plastic center piece; 2) our bolt must have been attached with a HIGH SPEED COMPRESSION-DRIVEN DRILL...I could not get it off and was about to get my wife to try and put her fingers into that small opening on the edge of the tumbler to prevent it from turning while I used an extension on my socket wrench...but she got worried that I would not be able to put it back together and so I quit...not a good day for DIY!
Thanks for watching! Sorry to hear that it didn’t work out for you in the end. I did notice too that some of these parts are extremely fragile. Most of them are made out of either plastic or thin metal pieces. I had to replace the center cap too because one of the arms broke while I was trying to remove it. Luckily it was not an expensive part. 😊
Thanks ! really great video ! My plate was really dirty. This will help so much ! Also grateful for the recommended monthly cleaning cycle, i did not know about it !
Thanks for the Video. But I think the Prong on the plastic cap was not really broken. You should find one slot on of the plastic cap on the bottom (not the slots on the top) and push a large flat head screw driver in the slot towards the center nut. That prong is meant to give so the cap will come off as you lift. Without that give (flex) of that prong, you might end up breaking one of the prongs.--E
Thanks for watching! No, actually one of the prongs of the cap in fact was broken. It broke while I was trying to pry it out. Good thing, I was able to order a replacement cap from either Amazon or Walmart (sorry don’t remember exactly from where 😊) and replaced it. The part number for the cap is actually located underneath fyi. Cheers!!
@@SOBIsHobbies If you broke it it was because you used one of the Slots on top[ and not the single slot on the side/bottom. . I pushed a flat head screw driver into the single slot on the bottom and pushed the prong towards the center. The other prongs are not made to be flexible..Regardless we both got it done--so thanks--m
@@themiddleclasseconomist5128 That’s probably what it was in my case. I’ll just be little more careful next time that’s for sure. Once again, thanks for watching! Have a great one!
Thank you for your feedback. My wife uses a half cup of baking soda in first cycle and then followed by a half cup of vinegar in second cycle to clean the tubes and inside of the drum. Hope this helps.
So the baking soda is used on the wash cycle and vinegar during the rinse? Just trying to understand the steps of when to use each. But doing this without any garments in the wash?
Do not use baking soda and vinegar together. When used together they neutralize each other. Use one at a time and not together. You can buy "cleaning vinegar' I've found that to work the best.
Small plastic cap, and screw underneath it came right out. The big aluminum wash plate wouldn't budge!!!! Worked in it for 3 hours prying up on it with pry bars, and it wouldn't break free to save my life! I'm going to try what a couple others have done, and that's to soak in vinegar for a couple hours, and then get a couple of those #8 screw hooks, screw them into the plastic holes, and pull up on them using pliers. Hopefully this works for me also. Wish me luck!
I let it soak for 7+ hours with Vinegar, installed the screws, pulled up on it with channel locks until I had the whole tub slamming Up&Down, beat with a mallet and this technique still didn't work! UGHHHHHHHHH!!!! 2 Days working on it with the help of my wife, and I'm DONE with the dang thing! I have 1 thing to say: MY IS NOT REMOVABLE!!!! 🤦🏻♂️🤬
Just did this but instead of screws I used a couple small allan wrenches and vice grips! It was stuck wiggling back and forth was more effective than pulling hard!
@@SOBIsHobbies thank you I just broke it 😅 one quick question when installing it back and staring the machine up I here a grinding noise not sure what is? Any idea? I don’t know if it’s because of the broken tab or because of something else
@@Jose_I I’m not 100% sure what that grinding noise is about but if I were to assume it might coming from the plate itself if it’s not seated properly onto the center rotating pin. If you noticed both the plate itself and the center piece have ridges and grooves. It’s there to keep everything in place nice and tight while washer machine is in use. If I were to speculate it might be coming from there. Otherwise, I’m not sure what maybe causing for that grinding noise. Let us know if you find out what’s the cause. Thanks.
I removed the cap by inserting the screwdriver from the side of the openings instead of the top side to avoid breaking the plastic piece. Worked just fine
Thank you for your feedback. To answer your question, I haven’t checked the contents behind the back panel. Therefore I can’t say for sure if there’s another drain filter on the back side. Sorry about that.
I just opened up the back of mine before finding this video. I could disconnect the drain hose and pump. I did not find any filter or other things of interest, so I think this video is probably hitting the core issue. My drain line was gunky but it didn't feel like the culprit of the brown flakes being left over after wash. Also found nothing much to clean in the pump.
After I got the agitator out, I took it out back and power washed it. I was able to get the power washer between the white plastic part and the chrome top part and flush a lot of that crap out of there. I also washed the inside of the washer and was able to knock loose a lot of sludge in places where I couldn’t reach it.
Thank you for your feedback! I soaked ours to warm water for a little while and rinsed it with garden hose under higher pressure. While I may not have been able to remove all the gunk it however helped me clean it immensely. Hope this helps.
Your video displayed the gunk only at the center around the bolt. When I removed the washplate, the metal "starplate" had gunk and grit on the spokes as well. I sprayed it liberally with Dawn and let it soak while I thoroughly cleaned the bottom of the washplate, center hub, and bolt. Afterwards, I used a plastic scraper to clean the metal starplate, removed as much of the gunk from the starplate and thoroughly rinsed the tub with water, (the tub drain hose was removed to hopefully flush any gunk/debris I couldn’t physically remove. I'm assuming there is no screen at the tub outlet as I've had to disassemble the drain pump to remove paper clips and tie stays from the drain pump a few years ago.
Thank you for posting this video. I would never buy one of these machines. It was given to me to use when mine went capute. Now I know why my rinsed washing smells. Will be my project for today. Also when you lean into machine to get anything out all the settings change. Had my whinge.
Thanks dude, I had different model but you’re right relatively the same. My biggest problem was pulling the filter from the spindle spline. I kept grabbing the raised part of the plastic filter albeit not much to grab onto. Kept at it and finally pulled it off with my hands….
Thank you for yours feedback! I’m not 100% sure in terms of which type of Loctite to use. However, if I were to use a Loctite I would probably go with Loctite 425 to use with plastic since it poses less adhesive strength which is perfect for plastic or rather more delicate materials. Hope this helps.
I have an LG washer with an agitator and I was having the brown flakes on my clothes and when I took the agitator out I found that the bottom of the plate was completely covered in brown sludge. I cleaned it spotless and all was good for about a month and now I am seeing them again so i took the agitator out again and it was still clean. Any idea where to clean now or where the brown flakes could still be coming from?
It could be that your agitator filter may still contain some of that sludge and dirt that gets released inside the drum due to the vibration when washer machine is at work. Thank you so much for uploading the video. This will really helps us remove the wash plate of our washing machine. Although we differ in the model but we have similar wash plate. ❤👌🏼
I have the same washer. But I didn't use the vinegar and baking soda prior. I used the vinegar and baking soda on the cleaning cycle. Thst broke up a lot of gunk. The agitator was hard to get off. It broke. We had to order the plastic top piece and the agitator. What did your wife use to clean the dirt at the bottom after the agitator was removed? How often does your wife do use the vinegar/ baking soda wash?
Hi. My wife ran a cleaning cycle every 1.5-2 months. And I believe we used Bar Keepers Friend cleanser to clean the bottom of the agitator. Hope this helps.
Do you just put the baking soda and vinegar straight into the washer? I took my agitator out and cleaned all the gunk from underneath it and got it squeaky clean and the first couple cycles after were great, no flakes. But then just now saw some after this last load. Not sure where it could be coming from now.
@@greypalmer7634 Thank you! I had to look at the video myself to remember the thread pattern since I didn’t remember that of the top of my head. 😅 From the looks of it I went counterclockwise to loosen the bolt and clockwise to tighten it. It was a bit tight initially for me too but with little effort I was able to loosen it. Just make sure the socket/wrench is sitting snugly on the top of the bolt before you giving it a go. You want to avoid stripping the bolt edges. Hope this helps.

How can you take the big wheel out after you take the bolt off we are having a hard time
@@themoroskyfamily9586I'm sure you figure this out by now, if not in my experience it's a two-handed pole so you're not adding pressure on one side and not the other. Be careful, on the inside is a metal lip that is quite sharp. I cut my finger pretty good.
@@themoroskyfamily9586did you get yours out?
@@themoroskyfamily9586 I had a hard time too. It didn't pop out like the video. I found it eventually came out easier as I rotated the drum to find a sweet spot, when it eventually came out. Very helpful nonetheless. Thank you @SOBIsHobbies

Excellent video. Knew the cap came off, but unsure how to remove without breaking. Your video made the clean out easy. Thanks. Now if only LG had put this in the manual; or, designed the machine for easy cleaning…

Designed not to be easy so you call a tech. Same with cars (except Toyota)
JUST USE THE CLEAN TUB CYCLE OR HAVE A 5 YEAR OLD LEARING TO READ SHOW YOU HOW TO READ...
@@johncasor9698doing that right now, updating you to see if that worked
Good luck.
I initially struggled when trying to pull it out with one hand. But as soon as I used both hands (backhanded from the center) it lifted out easily.
That did the trick and made the large silver disc to come loose
skipped the vinegar step and did 2 pliers with a strong pull and came right off
So...90% of our washable shower curtain liner got caught under this plate due to [we assume] the little metal weights sewn in it; lesson learned.
(Glad to see we're not alone having this issue!)
...ok I'm off to get the vinegar. Thank you for the tip!
UPDATE: ...VINEGAR WORKED!!!!!😮
WOW!!!! 😃
You don't need a lot, either.
Thank you!
Thank you for your feedback!! I’m very glad if my video helped you. Have a happy holidays!!
Just a small tip for removing the plastic chrome cap. There is actually a small notch on the side of the cap. You can feel around it and when you find it, you can then put you screw driver underneath it and it will easily pop right up. Not having to worry about breaking a tap. Hope it helps with adding to your vidio.
Thank you for that advice! 🙏

I’m glad it worked out for you. Thanks for watching! And enjoy your “new” washing machine. 😊🤙
Extremely helpful video. Also, I used three pair of fingernail clippers. I inserted the rounded but sturdy metal lever into the initial cap's three openings. With the fingernail clipper lever straight down, it did not break anything, but was sturdy enough to very easily lift up that round center cap.
That’s a great tip! 👍 Thank you for sharing your experience.
I used two fingernail clippers. The cap popped off before I could get the third fingernail clippers in. Which was good because I only have two hands.
Thank you for sharing your experience!
Cant wait to try this, i couldnt get mine out for the life of me, didnt think of zipties 😂
@@stanurquhart6433 thank you for your input and shared experience! 🙏
Thank you for your input!

They do but they cost $1400 not $600
Not sure if you’ll read this. I was having a water level issue as well. So puzzling, but I found that if I use the “bulky cycle” with the “ cold tap water” option, it fills up. I’m new to this machine so I’m still experimenting but that’s one of the ways I found to get a good was in.
I would never buy an LG again
Water levels can be adjusted before washing starts. I just increase water level. As I need it.

If you do you use Loctite when replacing the bolt, make sure you use the BLUE Loctite (which is meant to keep bolts from loosening due to vibration,, etc). Red Loctite is meant to keep a bolt permanently in place and can make it nearly impossible to remove without special tools.

May I ask how much vinegar you use per load? I was told to be careful, something about vinegar corroding the hose. 🤷♀️
@@crazeelupz About a 1/2 cup per load. The vinegar is actually just getting the last of the soap out, so it's not hanging onto the material.

I did it for the first time in like almost 5 years. If you maintain it well and do cleaning cycles as the owner’s manual calls for you shouldn’t have to worry about this all that often.
Is it possible to see a picture of the plexiglass technique you used?

Thank you so much! I have an LG washer with the exact drum and appearance as yours. It has a different model number, but I’m sure I can clean mine the same way. I appreciate you sharing your video and help!

Thank you so much for posting this. I've never found another post with the same washing machine as mine. Thank you❤. Mine hasn't ever been cleaned....so adding to hubby's honey do list now❤
You’re welcome! I hope this video will help cleaning your washing machine. 😊
Glad I invested 15 min of my life watching this vid… got the exact same machine came in a real handy… question the top cheap metal/ plastic is really necessary????
@@Elcheapo-og2ig If you’re talking about that metallic plastic center cover piece then I would say yes because it helps to keep the center screw/bolt covered from other elements. Hope this helps.
@@SOBIsHobbies hi yes otherwise clothes could get tangle in the screw… by the way sorry my poor English I’m French
@Elcheapo-og2ig No worries. Yes, if I were you I would try to cover the center piece with its plastic/metallic part. Otherwise, as you have said there’s a possibility of clothes getting caught by the agitator in the middle when the drum is spinning.
THANKS for making the video and sharing how to clean LG washing machine...but...I discovered 2 things:
1) putty knife is easier than a screwdriver to remove the oval plastic center piece;
2) our bolt must have been attached with a HIGH SPEED COMPRESSION-DRIVEN DRILL...I could not get it off and was about to get my wife to try and put her fingers into that small opening on the edge of the tumbler to prevent it from turning while I used an extension on my socket wrench...but she got worried that I would not be able to put it back together and so I quit...not a good day for DIY!
I could not get the 10mm screw out at all😭 about to buy a new washer LOL
I just found your video, and I am so grateful for the tips you've provided here! ❤❤❤
Thank you for your feedback!! Greatly appreciated!! 🙏
Thanks ! really great video ! My plate was really dirty. This will help so much ! Also grateful for the recommended monthly cleaning cycle, i did not know about it !
Followed your tutorial and it was very helpful! Keep up the good work !!
Thank you!!
My wife wanted to know how much vinegar and baking soda your wife used to clean the tub. Great video. Keep up the good work.
You must have had to go buy that 10mm socket just for this project lol. Nicely done
@@VectorAxus 😂 That’s one size socket where I have multiple backups. 😅 Thank you!!
Thanks!
You’re welcome!
Do not use baking soda and vinegar together. When used together they neutralize each other. Use one at a time and not together. You can buy "cleaning vinegar' I've found that to work the best.
@@joemancuso9999 Great tip. Thanks for sharing it.
@@allenmorris2661I’m having the same issue. It’s very frustrating!
Just did this but instead of screws I used a couple small allan wrenches and vice grips! It was stuck wiggling back and forth was more effective than pulling hard!
I would suggest using two screw drivers in two of the holes simultaneously to prevent breakage.
I will try that next time. Thank you so much for that tip!
What do u do if one of the taps broke?
@@Jose_I here’s where I ordered ours when I broke the tab when I was trying to remove ours. 😅

Worked just fine

thank you for this excellent video! I have a question for you: Is there another drain filter that is accessible from the back panel? thanks so much!
@@ChristopherMcCulloh Thank you for sharing your experience! 🙏
Thank you for this! Once I pull the wheel out, what’s the best method for cleaning out all of the gunk? There’s a lot!!
Thank you cleaning this helped our problem with agitation 👍
Thank you for your feedback!
Thank you for posting this video. I would never buy one of these machines. It was given to me to use when mine went capute. Now I know why my rinsed washing smells. Will be my project for today. Also when you lean into machine to get anything out all the settings change. Had my whinge.
@@suzanneallen8218 thank you for your input!
Thanks dude, I had different model but you’re right relatively the same. My biggest problem was pulling the filter from the spindle spline. I kept grabbing the raised part of the plastic filter albeit not much to grab onto. Kept at it and finally pulled it off with my hands….
Thank you, we didn't know where the scum on our clothes was coming from. Great Job

We wanted to thank you very much for the video. Our only question is below in regards to the locrite type?
Therefore, my next best guess is that you may have to replace your agitator/pulsator assembly. Hope this helps.
By the way if you decide to replace your pulsator assembly you can use the following link to purchase a new assembly (disclaimer this is Amazon Associates’ link):

How much vinegar should I use? How much baking soda should I use?
@@pamelasandoval8091 We use 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of baking soda for the cleaning process. Hope this helps.
Great explanations and will be doing it tonight.
Thank you for your feedback.
No complaints. I love ❤️ when people prevent me from calling 1-800. THANKS
Thank you for your feedback! Have a happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too. Is the bolt left or right hand threads. It’s very tight. Thanks
I got it. Disregard
