I worked with a girl whose mom did Crossfit and she started having back issues so her mom convinced her to come do Crossfit. She came back the next day talking about how her back felt so great and I thought, "It won't for long......" She gave it up pretty quickly.

Like i'm 45 seconds into this video and watching guys fail to do their first rep, literally falling over themselves with massive amounts of metal weights above them, and they CONTINUE. One clip i saw was a guy doing a pistol squat while balancing on a ball with a barbell over his head. It's the unhealthy "take it too far" culture of crossfit that people have a problem with.

It shouldn't matter when we're talking about the most elite field of athletes in the world, though. I mean, that's how we're supposed to regard them, right?
@Ivan Karamazov I wouldn't put too much credence in the specific order. Both days they basically open and close with running events, with field events in the middle. I don't know that it would make much difference if they flip-flopped the 1500 and hurdles on Day 2. It's certainly more dramatic, though.

Did you just walk in knowing how to do everything perfectly? double unders, handstand walks, muscles ups, any oly work, moving more efficiently in plyo and calisthenics , and mono-structural work? Glad you found your love in powerlifting, but to say there is no progression is not only ignorant, it's hubristic. Focusing on form is gym dependent. Some gyms won't even allow you to touch a barbell until you can prove you can move safely, and consistently with a PVC pipe. Some gyms just want to have CrossFit on their doors and only have two day certification and could care less about form and only care about money...So I'll give ya that.

In this case though, you literally are. I am a weightlifter myself, and she missed the bounce in the clean. You're allowed to go back down to try and bounce out of the hole, but she just didn't have the leg strength. It's quite common in weightlifting competitions

Ruza Roos The fact that you actually don't seem to understand is you don't set a start up weight for 70 percent of people to fail. You don't see them set the high jump bar in athletes at a starting height to get all 70 percent of the athletes to fail
Two biggest problems here: 1. You should never do more than your body is comfortable with, or you’ll just destroy your muscles. You have to build up to that point, you can’t start there 2. You shouldn’t do multiple reps of something that’s out of your body’s abilities, it only compounds your muscle fatigue and leads to further muscle destruction and worse and worse form on each new rep CrossFit people do not seem to understand how to properly treat their bodies, they are killing themselves
I do certainly think Crossfit can be dangerous but from my experience doing 2-3 crossfit circuits a week has improved my endurance during compound excersises
I've been lifting for over 10 years and have strayed from any type of cross fit lifts and rarely do power-lifts except for maybe bench press I'm happy with my body and not having a broken spine. Thank you Trapisaurus Rex

I follow Elgin as a source of comedic relief, as well as a litmus test of most fitness ideas. As a Crossfiter myself, I can't help but agree with most of his points in this video. Especially about the diversity and pressure to re attempt lifts that are beyond your capability. This is a well informed criticism of these lifters and competitors from a source that is often dismissed in our own smaller circle
I think it's funny that so many people seem to love making fun of crossfitters. I am a bodybuilder, not a crossfitter, but I admire them. They work extremely hard at what they do. I think a lot of people are jealous of them.
I feel so ambivalent about this video. On one hand, I do laugh at what I'm seeing and find the commentary funny. On the other hand, basically every dude who was there looks better than I do and probably lifts more than I do. So I don't know if I should even laugh when I'm not at least on their level, at least aethestically.

you don´t use your arms in olympic lifting. You must use your legs, otherwise the pull will be very slow and fail the lift, just like she did...
