But should YOU buy this cheap heavy metal beginner's guitar?

- The ESP LTD EC-10 is a beginner's heavy metal guitar, but is it worth buying? Well, maybe. This one had some fret issues. Once I took care of those it plays well and sounds good. I go into detail about the positives and negatives in this video.

The ESP designed pickups on the EC-10 lack clarity in certain situations (as you'll hear in the sound demo), but they're not as bad as the pickups on some cheap guitars.
If you're playing thrashy metal, for example, I think they'll do you well. If you're playing downtuned fuzz? A lot less clarity. The clean sounds are fine. Watch the vid for the sound demo!

LTD EC-10 specs: 24 frets, volume and tone controls, 3 way pickup selector switch, 24.75" scale length, basswood body, maple neck, "rosewood" fingerboard, extra jumbo frets. Comes with a cheap gig bag.
It's rare for a guitar in this price range to have 24 frets, but you know what? You probably won't be using 24 frets anyway so don't let that be the deciding factor for you.
Ultimately, it's a cool guitar for metal, but I only recommend it if you get one without the issues mine had. OR if you want to buy a guitar to practice mods on. OR if you're okay with just fixing any issues that come up. Cool? Cool.

I bought an EC-50 like 12 years ago and it was fantastic. No Sharp frets, three knobs, perfect action. I played it a lot. Same black color. Couldn’t believe at the time what a deal I was getting. I don’t know if they’re still getting made that well or if made in the same factory.
Sweet! I don't think I ever played an EC-50.
They don’t make them anymore. Every time I search it up, people always say the EC-50 is better than the * supposedly * better guitars like the EC-256 and possibly the 1000. It shows that just because the guitar is cheap doesn’t mean it’s bad because the EC-50 gets some incredible reviews and it’s rare.
@@heehee6809 Even with the great opinion I gave it up above, it is an exaggeration to say the EC-50 is better than the EC-256. Some guys just want to believe that. I have owned a relic EC-256 and currently own a lemon drop EC-256. The EC-50 is not better or even equal. However, if you have an EC-50 that hasn’t been fiddled with by an amateur repair guy, you really don’t need the 256. The 50 does just fine. It’s an excellent buy.
Our failing economies ( by design) are forcing companies to compromise and cut corners.
Sharp fret ends happen because wood dries and shrinks. It‘s a normal behaviour of wood. On affordable guitars the fret ends are not carefully grinded because of time and cost savings.
In fact it‘s an easy fix: grab a bloc of hard wood, glue some sandpaper (280-350 grid on one side and 600-800 on opposite side) and have some passes at 45 degrees along all the fret ends.
First with the rough grid, then with the finer. Go slow and with low pressure and check after every 5 passes the result. Don‘t be scared to round a bit the wood edge of the fretboard too, your hand will be even more happy.
Finally roll a strip of 600-800 grid sandpaper around your thumb and have slow passes along the fret ends to smoothen and round the edges even more. You will feel how the frets grab the paper less and less, as a sign of getting smooth. Use the very last strip of paper till it falls apart, so the metal gets almost polished because the sand is more dull.
(edit: one of my best and most resonant cheap Ibanez Gio had the sharpest fret ends ever. A paper pulled along was cut in half after 15 frets. If I had dismissed it because of that, I had missed a really wonderful guitar.)
Good tips, thanks for sharing!
Esp,/Ltd make great guitars even these budget guitars are good
I just got an EC-50 trade with some pedals. Planning to upgrade bridge pickup. For me, this is a good metal guitar. LTD's are hard to get by here in the Philippines
Nice! The EC-50 looks good. Enjoy! 🤘
Maybe you had bad luck with your EC-10. I didnt have any sharp edges, like my Jackson did. Tuning stays well too. Only problem I have is neck shape, but thats not guitars fault.
Yeah could be bad luck
How much do they weigh?
Is EC-10 the same as Viper-10? I like the look of Viper more, but I can't find any reviews of it.
No, they're not the same
thank you for the video and 3:52 thank you for saying that, I always felt the same way, also they can keep the saw your arm off cheap strap and the bendy twizler pot metal allen wrenches
Ha, yeah, I get what they're trying to do by providing all those cheap accessories, but much better to make the guitar playable out of the box instead. Thanks for commenting!
It has pretty decent sound for its price.
Yeah the pickups are decent
Hi just bought an Artist Cimmerian and the tone and sound it makes blows my ESP EC-50 away. Just needs a good setup as there is some fret buzz.
I'll have to check them out! Thanks for sharing! 🤘🎸
Does it let the note ring out? To be specific.... Sustain?
I have an Epiphone SL and it doesn't sustain.
Yeah, it definitely does.
Difficult to diagnose what's wrong with yours but it could be any number of things.
@@ArtOfShredYT I really like the Epiphone SL. Got it on trade for a few things and really enjoy it. Nice Guitar. I set it up myself. I can deal with the note note sustaining much.
If bought one .. to be honest, for his price it's not bad at all.. lot of sustain 👌🏽👌🏽
Yup! 🤘🎸
In India Guwahati it cost ₹ 22000/ i bought on this price
Ok
Dean had a similar guitar was so light it could float away.
🤣 This one's not that light. It was 7.5lbs
Of all the videos reviewing this guitar, you're literally the only one complaining about it 😂
Honestly, you just sound spoiled because you keep mentioning your "expensive" guitars.
Wtf you on about. I love cheap guitars. Want beginners to get something they'll be happy with. I spend my own money to review these guitars. Not all reviewers do.
Could you do a review on the esp ltd 401?
I would love to, but this channel doesn't make money (so far it has cost over $4k haha) so I don't have the budget for thousand dollar guitars. There is another option, though!
If you want the guitar, buy it and have it shipped to me. I will review it, set it up to your liking (+ I'll polish the frets to a mirror shine), and ship it to you. What to do you think?
@@ArtOfShredYT I understand and very very likely you might receive it soon thank you for responding and the awesome content 😀
Sweet, thank you for watching and subscribing. :)
@@ArtOfShredYT Not a problem buddy
I'd do that deal with a Ltd m-10 I just ordered for my kid
It's 260$ over here in India 😌
Ok thanks
Bro, I got it for 15,000 rs in 2018.

You're original
Good review. It sure is an awesome looking axe. Cant deny that. But I won't chance a buy just because of the sharp frets. Its Russian roulette. Thanks for posting.
I hear you. Honestly it's a pretty easy fix but I understand not wanting to buy the tools.
@@ArtOfShredYT i liked your review style. You rolled up all the BS into a tight ball, opened your door, then kicked it into street. Walked back to you production space & gave us the facts. Always respect that kind of review. Naturally I'm subscribing. .

Ec 10 or Ec 50 I can't decide which is better
I'm not sure. I haven't played an EC 50
did you picked one already?

The answer is yes. Ltd makes great guitars. Everything youre listing is typical of cheaper guitars. My 7 string ltd and every other ive had was perfect. Just to prove people like yall wrong, i bought a cheap amazon iyv tele. I put 200 in it for a luthier to set it up and change hardware. It has two knock off invaders to top it off. It plays like a 2k dollar fender but way heavier now. The one guy did an entire tour with a 40 dollar guitar to prove most of you wrong. This guy got a 5 o clock friday special and acts like theyre all like that. In reality, its the opposite. Btw those pickups are emg's lol.
You proved me wrong 🤣🎸🤘
I was surprised with mine. I paid $110 open box. Freaking loved your review. First one of yours that I have seen. Really like your style and thank you for showing the fix!!!!
Heck yeah! Happy you like the guitar and my review. $110 is a really nice deal! 🤘
Used?
sorry for my english, i went to some store and ask about guitars and they said MH 10 is good for you start, should i buy it?🥲
Hi there! Sorry I am not familiar enough with the MH10 to give you an answer since I haven't reviewed it yet
