    Hello I just wanted to say that your channel is amazing. I studied Medical Billing and Coding and graduated from DeVry University with my Degree in 2021. However, i did not pass the state exam to become certified. The exam was not quite what my instructor explained. It was actually very detailed for someone fresh out of school. I did pretty god but not enough to pass. I did not let that deter me from studying more. Anyway I came across one of your videos and I must say you are a great teacher. I am gaining new insights on coding and ways to learn. Thank you.

    Thank you for making this video. I've read over this topic over and over and over. Only now, after watching this do I finally grasp the concept. Thank you.

    Outstanding. Thank you. I've been confusing myself on this. You have made the Excludes 1 very clear to me.

    Thank you soooo much! I read and reread the section in my CPC textbook and googled and all of the explanations just further confused me. This helped me immensely. Thank you thank you!

    Thank you! I read and re-read my AAPC schooling section on this and just couldn't makes sense of it. Your description was easy to follow. It's a much simpler idea than they present it in the educational books. haha Thank you again!

    I can grasp the excludes notes. What I have a hard time with (like under asthma) is what defines the difference between tobacco use and tobacco dependence. I was a smoker for 27 years, and I can assure you that after the first month or so I was tobacco dependent! This would apply to alcohol as well...but slightly different. I can understand how alcohol use would be coded if someone is only a social drinker, but in my opinion it should be labeled alcohol dependence if you are someone who drinks every week or several days a week or you binge drink when you do. Does this simply come down to each physician’s definition of what they observe and hear from the patient? Thank you very much if you are able to clarify that for me!! Also, if you have any ideas you can share that would help me get into the field considering I have no medical office experience but passed the CPC exam the first time I took it and made straight A’s in my classes.

    First of all - Thank you so much for uploading! I am taking this course online and I feel lost as though I am teaching this to my self, so finding this is so helpful. I have a question, if you can kindly elaborate. Lets say the patient is diagnosed with chronic obstructive asthma: would you code it as: "J45: J44.9" or a simple "J44.9"? (that's my question for exclude 2)
    For exclude1 lets say its tobacco use: would I code as "z72.0"? alone?
    Thank you so much!!

    Code Master Coach, you are looking gorgeous. I have 2 questions. Can you give some exercises with Excludes 1 and 2, and also what is the different between Nos and Nec?

    • @codemastercoach6636
      @codemastercoach6636  5 років тому +3

      NOS means Not Otherwise Specified - the physician could have been more specific in his/her diagnoses but wasn't, therefore you cannot code to a more specific code. Ex. Cardiomyopathy vs. alcoholic cardiomyopathy (if you physician had stated alcoholic cardiomyopathy, you could code it but since it was "not specified" you cannot code it)
      NEC means Not Elsewhere Classified - the physician was specific but the code is not as specified. Ex. Hydropneumothorax is found at J94.8 Other specified pleural conditions.
      I will look for some examples for Excludes 1 and 2.
