Don't worry the rats will chew through the walls of your foundation and doors. Or through the roofing areas . Sometimes they can dig through weak spots of the foundation floor too. You will need to armor plate all those area with steel.
I've seen a similar device that fully seals the sewer pipe when nothing flowing. Would stop rats but also prevents back flow up the pipe in main sewer blocks, a bit more expensive and needs some excavation to fit. This device is pretty neat for the rat problem though as its metal so can't be chewed through and is hassle free to fit without having to do any digging!
When Thames Water came to clear a blockage a few weeks ago I was shocked when they opened the manhole in my front garden. The pit was over 6ft deep 😱 There were even rungs sunk into the wall to help you climb down.
Been having rat issues for several months. Couldn't figure out how they were coming in when we realized they were digging and swimming through a sewage pipe up into an opening on the drainage opening on the basement floor. We stupidly took off that circular covering with holes awhile back.
Had a similar product fitted at various points to stop the back flow of floodwater from main sewer entering drainage network for a caravan site. We had problems with the hinge rusting up and not functioning.
I had one of these for years and the inevitable, happened it blocked up and all of the sewer stuff came in my yard. It was disgusting. It cost me a fortune to get fixed for how to get took out. There must be something else
Definite need to revisit the install after some time and see how it's doing. The obvious concerns would be the hinge fouling up or tissue getting stuck and causing pipes to block. The other way rats get in is via the soil pipe vent, if the covers have come off. The wood on your house looks fine, you should leave it. Looks like a relatively new housing estate.
Thank you for showcasing this product! Plumbers in the US keep recommending replacing the DWV pipe with a new one... but that's just a flipping T joint which has one end pointed skyward. Again, huge gratitude for explaining that this product exists & the witty instal tutorial!
We had rats in the loft and found that the gas main bisected the drain at the front of the house. This allowed rats to exit the drain close to the foundation, tunnel and enter the cavity. This is fixed now and we have rat flaps fitted. They don't snag or clog as some comments have suggested, provided you don't flush what shouldn't be flushed and put a gallon of water down each toilet once per week to flush them out. I do like the rat rap at the end!
Another (but more expensive option) if you have a public sewer running through your land is a Nordisk TX11. Due to a rather strange 100 year old sewer design there was no easy way to isolate just our property so I used 2 of them to isolate the old and new side of our property and the neighbour via the public sewer. Rats aren't eating the loft anymore
Ive got a section 24 sewer running under my home.Severn Trent Water ltd as owners and maintainers of the sewer have been messing me about for over 50 years with problems of flooding via hydraulic lift and rat issues. To sue them is imposible like getting them to maintain the sewer. It appears the sewer in the basement needs an inspection chamber and backflow valve that will not only stop rats but stop the rising flood water as well.
I think the RatWall is great but, I'm in two minds whether to get one for holiday cottage I manage. My concern is wipes are going to snag on the sharp edges of the trap and cause a blockage. At a previous house, I had scaffolding up to do some work on the facias, and a rat used it to get on the roof and then got in to the attic by going under the tiles, and chewing through the roofing felt/paper underneath! I only found out when I noticed a terrible smell in the attic and went in to investigate...the mess one rat had caused was unbelievable, but luckily it had died before getting into the main part of the house..
Good video, but.. If you had a cctv survery done the camera would go through okay but would get stuck on the way back through. So is this device removeable?

I have no idea why I watched the full video and just subscribed to you as I have intrested in plumbing but it seems a interesting chanel so you have s new sub dude
It baffles me that Ratwall is configured out of the box for installation at the outlet.... if you get a blockage caused by anything further down the drain, the sewage will back up to the outlet and build up in the inspection chamber, for which the solution is to rod the drain through the outlet..... which is of course impossible with the Ratwall installed in the outlet, so you'll have to get your hand and arm into the sewage to remove it before you can rod the drain... Yuk! ..... and that's if the chamber is shallow enough to reach the device to remove it. If the drain is too deep to reach the Ratwall to remove it through the sewage, you're stuck with a very real problem getting the Ratwall out of the inlet to allow you to rod it. Far better to reconfigure the Ratwall to reverse the flap and install it in the inlet, which it is designed to do easily. Even if you have more inlets to one outlet in the inspection chamber, it is far more preferable to pay for more devices than to get involved with reaching down through sewage to remove one from the outlet to free access to the it, even if reachable.
I remember back in the day we had to build the side up quite a lot to stop them nesting on the side, building regs were quite tight on this, not so good nowadays

Drains pipes are created smooth for a reason i.e. so that poo, bog roll, etc; do not snag. This will end up a stinking mess of snagged gunk in no time! 🤢
Her toilet drains lead to an access point apx. 8" below ground? I bet the garden parties smell wonderful in what ever country allows shallow sewer access points.
Hi tim,, whats an access point apx. 8"? I think hes in uk. & i think uk have shared drains. I know my toilet pipe or bathroom pipe is joined to my neighbours house, which is joined to my house. These are 1960's houses im talkin about btw..
Hi James, as usual great video. I have a fall pipe fitted by a builder that goes straight into a sewer pipe under the drive. There isn’t a man hole down stream unless it’s further down the street. Is there a similar device that can be fitted into a vertical stack. Cheers
How do you fit pallets in a 22 rifle? Seriously though I purchased a lovely air rifle to cure my rat problem then I found them all dead (obviously poisoned). I proceeded to advertise the air rifle for sale and on the very day the guy come to buy it a rat poked his head out of my shed!!!!
I'm not convinced that this gadget could work on mine you sewage is a new build mines an old stone looking thing 😫 My rodent problems under my house, I've been told that the rats could possibly be comeing in under the house through a broken pipe that lead from the sewage? my toilet is down stairs I keep lot closed , I'm at witts end any suggestions I'm sure the is no holes for these pesky critters to be getting in to under my home hasn't tapped in all my years of liveing here in till I've had an echo drain fitted for rain water to run into the sewers
😂 thanks James needed a Good laugh. Just one thing you should try and avoid letting George Kill / hunt rats . my cat died from an infection shortly after killing a rat.
Just a little heads up Before spending money and time installing one of these It's best to pay for someone to inspect the waste pipes for any cracks Otherwise they can bypass this if there are cracks present
James loved the video as usual. Is there a chance the hinge will rust and or cease up creating problems later ? Maybe go back and revise in 3 months and do a review video ? Hold tight. Regards Colin
Oh should have said as well the offical word of Water Companies in the UK is that rats do not live in there sewers. This is also backed by some local Authorities pest control sections normaly part of Enviromental Health section. It also relates to the time the Local Authorities where the Agents of the UK Water Authorities and eventualy couldnt afford to maintain the Water Authorities sewers . If you seek legal action against the Water Authority then there is Legal Technicaly which is the way they seek to bankrupt the plantiff before the case can be heard. I quote Severn Trent Water Ltd solicitor in Court before a Judge over 30 years ago . " Severn Trent Water my Lord have NO defense they are over a barrel but we wish to pleed Legal Technicaly. Which is 2 solicitors argueing if the case exsists before the case can be heard in court. The idea is to bankrupt the plaintiff by forcing up prehearing costs. My case was believed by one of 7 solicitors i discussed the case with to being going to cost in monetary terms around £1million . Plain and simple bullying. But its totaly legal. And rats dont live in sewers in the UK.
I used to tap the man hole to scar rata before opening... They are expander clamps.. They will work for a while but I imagine the rats will want to eat through it. Good luck hope they last.

Drains pipes are created smooth for a reason i.e. so that poo, bog roll, etc; do not snag. This will end up a stinking mess of snagged gunk in no time! 🤢
Except that this never happens...
What a great idea fella
Hi James if you don't have a manhole like that can they be fitted in the soil pipe alone?
Only if the pipe is horizontal.
Also, what country are you in then & what's it like there pls?
What happens when snake the sewer? Cable goes in with head, when you pull the cable back will it get pass the rat block?
Hi James, as usual great video. I have a fall pipe fitted by a builder that goes straight into a sewer pipe under the drive. There isn’t a man hole down stream unless it’s further down the street. Is there a similar device that can be fitted into a vertical stack. Cheers
Great video, can you send me a link for the rat wall please?
hehe - great video!! Love the songs as well!
And this is how ratatouille became inspired to cook. With three simple sausages.
Rat sautee...or rat fricassee? Or perhaps a petite peu of rat-au-van?

I've had a rat problem I cured it with a couple of pallets out of my 2.2 air rifle they won't be coming back for a long time
@hffp1 certainly are I swear by my gun gets rid of all the pests that's one of the reasons why I got it
How do you fit pallets in a 22 rifle? Seriously though I purchased a lovely air rifle to cure my rat problem then I found them all dead (obviously poisoned). I proceeded to advertise the air rifle for sale and on the very day the guy come to buy it a rat poked his head out of my shed!!!!
Hahaha! I love your videos but this was extra special 😂 Rat punt... Annndddddddd scene 🤪😅😂🤣😂🤣😂
what if the city blocks and you have a flat roof...its kind if like putting a back water valve on main drain
Thank you 😊
Thanks
###....Grabs you on your scrotom...### priceless !!!
I'm not convinced that this gadget could work on mine you sewage is a new build mines an old stone looking thing 😫
My rodent problems under my house,
I've been told that the rats could possibly be comeing in under the house through a broken pipe that lead from the sewage?
my toilet is down stairs I keep lot closed ,
I'm at witts end any suggestions I'm sure the is no holes for these pesky critters to be getting in to under my home hasn't tapped in all my years of liveing here in till I've had an echo drain fitted for rain water to run into the sewers
The rats will probably use a sausage to prop up the rat wall flap. p.s the song was incredible, Keep them coming. 👌
😂 thanks James needed a Good laugh. Just one thing you should try and avoid letting George Kill / hunt rats . my cat died from an infection shortly after killing a rat.
Was it from that nasty parasite that infects rats brains that then attracts rats to cats and their urine
Just a little heads up
Before spending money and time installing one of these
It's best to pay for someone to inspect the waste pipes for any cracks
Otherwise they can bypass this if there are cracks present
What brand are the snags??
hes put the lynk in the video description,, just click it ok
Sweet mate
James loved the video as usual. Is there a chance the hinge will rust and or cease up creating problems later ? Maybe go back and revise in 3 months and do a review video ? Hold tight. Regards Colin
The mcalpine toilet rat trap is good
Oh should have said as well the offical word of Water Companies in the UK is that rats do not live in there sewers.
Rats have massive pecs... PMSL.. just choked on my toast hahaha
rats , mice and squirrels are cause of many a headache in countryside buildings !
sing in my loo, it has great acoustics.
Got at least 20 in my garden
