Block of wood against the trap as big as possible to span 2 opposite edges at least & hit the wood, it should advance if more evenly and also not dent or damage the trap. The unknown plant looks like willow herb, it is a weed & will spring up all over uninvited and spread.
@@diywithemma they are pretty...but they are invasive and get huge long roots.....there are loads along railway tracks near us because they grow well in gravelly soil.

On the large pot you were splitting it does look like a rather prolific weed - rosebay willow herb.

Did the flap work? I feel the gap at bottom may have been too big.
