Well done! I always wondered how he slept with his daughter-in-law but didn't recognize her. The detail you go into explaining why she would have kept her veil on was excellent. Now I know.
Tamar knew she had to keep the bloodline pure, Judah having married outwith his tribe, therefore the sons were the problem, hence God killed them. When Judah's wife died and Shelah had come of age, Tamar knew what she had to do. Tamar must have been a pure bloodline. Just like Noah, who was righteous in his generation, Judah actually tells us Tamar was righteous also, more so than himself who had not kept his generation pure.
The purpose of having a son through the brothers was so that she, the mother would be provided for in her old age. The meaning of honor father and mother in 10 commandments was actually in the Hebrew meaning is “Heavy”, it’s a weight that you carry/bear. It’s honorarium, as a parent who cared for their babies and children, they in turn care for the parents in their old age.
You did a very good job putting this together. Here are some more thoughts on Genesis 38, feel free to uses them if you feel led. *Virgin Birth In Type* The first thing you Notices when you come to Genesis 38, after reading chapter 37: it is totally out of context, with chapter 37. that is the the point , God, is making here, it is not what your expecting. What you were expecting was chapter 39, that will come after, first this must happen. Verses 1-5, we see Judah was a every day guy, Just like you and i, left home, starts a business, made a friend, marries, And had three sons. *Levirate Marriages law* What we see here in Genesis 38 Verses 8-11, is the Levirate marriage law, It was used as a form of social security, to guaranteed that the woman would remain part of the family, if her husband died leaving her childless. if this occurred the kinsman would take her and raise up a son for his dead relative. This was done in order preserve the name of the husband that had passed away giving him a heritage, in the ancestry. it also gave the widow the assurance that she would be cared for. A widow without children, was considered a social out cast, a burden on society; Some of the requirements of Levirate marriage law, The woman had to be a virgin or the wedding was off, the person could also be put to death, in some cases. So you see why Tamar went to such drastic measures, to ensure what, Judah promised her. Judging by Judah's actions The Levirate marriage law is fully engaged In Genesis 38; in that after his son Er dies he gives Tamar his son Onan, to raise up a son for his dead brother, Er. Onan dies Also. Judah then promises Shelah, when he grows older. This was done so that his son Er's name would not be blotted out from the families heritage, and Tamar would be cared for. *Broken Hearted* In verse 12, Judah suffers another death in his family, his wife dies, it say's he was comforted. Judah lost two sons and a wife, i think it safe to say Judah was a heartbroken man, you don't loose two children and a wife and just get over it, wounds like that last for the rest of your life. *This Must Comes First* Verses 13-26, Now we see Tamar was a virgin engaged to Judah's son, through a series of events conceives by the father, Gives birth to the heir of the promise, by the bound hand of him who was expected to come first, he makes away for his brother to inherit the promise, then he whose hand that was bound, who was expect to come first, comes afterwards. The virgin is not a harlot, Joseph is not the father, but a caretaker for the family. Like Tamar God was not out to get Judah's goat, But to create a eternal inheritance. You will see Messiah in type wearing the face of Joseph, ruling all nations in Chapter 39, all Israel included. *"Discern Now Who These Things Belong!"* Like Tamar vailed her face to keep from being recognized, so God has vailed this chapter, till he saw fit to make it known. God even tells us he declares the end from the beginning . Isaiah 46 :9-10.

Thanks for the feedback Jason! Always appreciated.
Awesome breakdown!
Thank you so much for this. It has really helped me. I'm sincerely grateful.
Thanks for letting us know; it’s always great to hear that.

Yes. The point of the levirate marriages is right.
