This is a recording provided by Adirondack Christian Fellowship of Dave's guest teaching on Psalm 102. Given at ACF on Sunday September 15th, 2024. Theme: Bring your Burdens This is one of the Penitential Psalms, which is a psalm in which the author shows a penitent heart, they confess their brokenness, their sin, and their need for God’s forgiveness. Lessons learned from my dog

On a run through the woods I was reminded of my recently deceased Bernese Mountain Dog, McKenzie. Every morning she would greet me with so much excitement for the day, “what are we going to do today Dad? I am so excited just to be with you, whatever you want for us, IM IN!” When she would get into trouble and need discipline she would respond with a penitent heart, “I am sorry, I know I screwed...
Exodus 40 Bible Study - The Tabernacle pt 10 - The Glory of the Lord fills the Tabernacle
Переглядів 1072 місяці тому
In this final Bible Study in Exodus, we see the Tabernacle erected, anointed, and consecrated. We then see the Glory of the Lord fill the Tabernacle (the Lord has come to abide with his people as promised in Ex 6.6-8). We take a deep dive into“the cloud” and the “Glory of the Lord” seeing how both play out throughout scripture. As we wrap up the book of Exodus we see God’s ever-present narrativ...

Переглядів 352 місяці тому
Looking at Ephesians 4.29-5.2 Dave asks the question "what does it mean to grieve the Holy Spirit?" In what way do our actions bring sorrow, distress and/or sadness to our Lord? Dave uses the illustration of three children who are bickering and arguing over trivial, inconsequential things while unbeknownst to them they are surrounded by God's amazing beauty and provision. We are the same. Dave ...

In this Bible study, we cover Exodus 36.8 through the end of chapter 39. In this time we see the building of the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, the Table of Showbread, the Lampstand, the Altar of Showbread, the Altar of Incense, the Bronze Altar, also known as the Brazen Altar or the Altar of Burnt Offering. Additionally, we see the completion of the Bronze Basin which is also known as th...

In this study, we see God reiterate the importance of keeping the Sabbath. We see the Israelites volunteer the materials needed to build the Tabernacle, all provided by God (as foretold in Genesis). And we see all the skilled workers called forward, including Bezalel and Oholiab. This brings us into our final segment of the book of Exodus, as we see the Tabernacle built and blessed by God. How can God be both merciful and just at the same time? Shouldn't the guilty be punished?

In our Bible study of Exodus chapter 34 we camp out here on verses 5-7 in which we get an amazing description of God. In it we learn that the LORD is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love. But we also learn that he does not let the guilty go unpunished. How can a merciful God that loves us also be a judging God that condemns the guilty to punishment? Watch the full Exodus...

In this Bible study, we wrap up our three-part series looking at Israel’s fall into Idolatry in Exodus 32 followed by a look at Moses’ relationship with the Lord. God tested Moses by offering to create a new nation through him (Ex 32.10), but Moses selflessly pleaded with the Lord and offered himself as an atonement for their sin (Ex 32.31-32). In Exodus 33 and 34 we see a back-and-forth conver...
Exodus 33 Contradiction? Moses saw God "face to face" But "no one can see God's face and live?"
Переглядів 1223 місяці тому
In Exodus chapter 33 we see what may seem to be two contradictory statements in the Bible: - Ex 33.11, " The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend." - Ex 33.30, "But,” He (the Lord) said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” So which is it? Did Moses really see God's face and live OR did he not actually see his face? This video talks about both o...

We also ask why Aaron made the calf and where was his fellow leader, Hur in all this. Through all of this, we see that Moses was b...

    I love how you are so honest in saying I don't know. I was bothered when an elder preached at my church and said that Adam and Eve were walking with Jesus in the garden and that Jesus was in the fiery furnace. Without any explanation to the congregation, this is very confusing and I think is wrong teaching. At minimum it should be stated that this is a preincarnate Jesus! I find your teaching very helpful and what I thought all along personally. Of course it could be God the Father walking in the Garden, in fact why not all three together were walking. I think that is the most likely since they were not separated by sin yet....

    It is adding words to the Bible. Scripture prohibits, adding or subtracting or deletion words from the Bible. Therefore, must avoid this addition.

    • @IRONSHEEP
      @IRONSHEEP 2 місяці тому

      Any words that are “added” are put in parentheses and are other potential meanings of the ancient Hebrew or Greek. How is that any different than having 6 different translations of the Bible out in-front of you comparing the KJV, NIV, ESV and NASB? No text is “added” in the since of additional content. Read the introduction to any AMP Bible and you will see the heart of the scholars that put it together. I don’t rely on the AMP along, but it is one of my favorites when I am first studying a passage.

    A thought on Bible translations. Word for word vs thought for thought. Thought for thought is much easier for reading and for newer Christians. Thought for thought is much better for depth and detail. There are times when a word has several meanings. Where more than one of those meanings apply at the same time. While thought for thought is much easier to read. Most of the depth and nuance is lost. There are times when you will read a word that stands out. You can then remember 1 or 2 other places that same word was used. Which often gives additional context. Sometimes linking verses by thoughts and ideas that would otherwise get missed in a thought for thought translation. Both have their pros and cons. It is important to understand both. For instance. What would you think if you read. An angel descended from the North. Or Upon death, his spirit descended South. The Lion of the tribe of Judah. There are times when it is very important for deeper understanding. To understand not just the easiest interpretation. But also, how several interpretations can be applied at the same time.

      @IRONSHEEP 2 місяці тому

      Good question. There are so many amazing translations, I love using the AMP when I am trying to figure out what the text may be trying to say; it provides the most thorough look at the text. When I am memorizing scripture though I choose the translation that I think emphasizes the point of the text the best. Especially for memorizing, which are you going to remember? The main translations I use are the KJV, NKJV, ESV and NIV. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment. - Dave (For those confused by all the different translations, here is a video explaining that: ua-cam.com/video/L5uABunqz5M/v-deo.html)

Is that many people already understand north and south. North is heavenly, South is hell. Why is so few people try to understand East, and West.

    Hi!! I don’t man to be… inquisitive? Or give any push back on much Can we discuss how the Bible makes it a point to say he was married to the daughter of a priest of On? What cult was that? How close was Joseph to all of that? Great question. We actually discussed Asenath & Potiphera in our Gen 41 study. Very interesting stuff, I wonder how challenging that would have been for Joseph? I don’t think we today (in the western world in 2024) really understand the dynamics of high society arranged marriages (especially those in ancient Egypt)! Did Joseph even have a choice? Did he worship God in private or did his wife know? Did she share in Joseph’s faith in secret, despite who her father was? There is so much we just don’t know. A solid rule, if its not told to us in the Bible its not critical for us to know in relevance to the bigger picture that God wants to share with us. IE: if the Bible does not tell us, it’s not pertinent to the story. Here is a direct link to that spot in the Gen 41 study video.. ua-cam.com/video/3VpThd3tYEA/v-deo.html It’s always good to ask questions. Acts 17.11 Thanks! - Dave

    Although Strong's Concordance has some great features and meanings, one way to test Strong's, to corroborate the Strong's definition, is against 'word cross-reference' not only in English, but in Hebrew and Greek also. What you are doing by doing word cross-reference is establishing a matter with two or three witnesses. That's why the Bible is primarily tri-lingual, with the exception of the New Testament which is primarily bi-lingual. Word cross-reference works by looking up an English word's Greek and/or Hebrew counterpart and looking for other verses containing that same word or a variation of the root word. The variation might be something like singular versus plural, or transitive versus intransitive, etc. I use Blue Letter Bible and copy both the counterpart word and root-word and then use LXX version (Greek Septuagint / Old Testament) and both TR (Textus Receptis New Testament Greek) and MGNT (Morphological Greek New Testament) versions for Greek word lookup. For Hebrew, we are currently limited to the Old Testament Masoretic Text, but for word cross-reference I use WLC (Westminster Leningrad Codex) version. Once we have a few or all verses catalogued from the word search(es), then I take a look at the English rendering of those verses in comparison with the original verse I grabbed the Greek and Hebrew words and root-words from, and taking notes about the similarities and differences I find among them. One of my favorites is the Hebrew word "BRK" or "Barak" which has a dual meaning: "to bless" and "to kneel". We don't see this in the English, but it is present in the Hebrew. Gen 12:2 _I will make you a great nation; I will bless you..._ Barak - www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/h1288/kjv/wlc/0-1/ Gen 24:11 _He made the camels kneel down..._ Barak - www.blueletterbible.org/lexicon/h1288/kjv/wlc/0-1/ One thing that stood out to me is "blessing" and "kneeling" are not either/or dichotomies, but more like English ingredients for the Hebrew word. The biblical verse that came to mind when I read these passages was when Jesus said in Mat 23:12 and Luke 14:11 _For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted._ So if to 'bless' is 'to kneel down', to humble oneself, then when God blessed Abraham, He not only blessed Abraham, but humbled Himself by blessing Abraham. This concept reminded me of another passage where it reads in Psa 80:17 _Let your hand rest on the man at your right hand, the son of man you have raised up for yourself._ And again in Psa 8:4-6 _What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:_ Both of these verses begin to paint a clearer picture of our living God who humbles himself by exalting the humble. How much more if the Son of Man He exalted humbles himself by exalting the same God who exalted him? Now we have a mutual relationship with God at this point, and a oneness, an agreeableness, a mutual belief, a mutual faith, and mutual hope with our Father in Heaven. Not because we are greater than our Teacher but because our Father in Heaven has enabled His child to be sufficiently like Him. To God be the glory! I hope my brothers and sisters who do the will of the Father find this lesson helpful in their walk with our Heavenly Father and His Son, in whom He is well pleased. Peace be with you.

    • @IRONSHEEP
      @IRONSHEEP 4 місяці тому

      Good point, I appreciate your historical accuracy. I choose to use the term "Jew" to mean the chosen people of Israel (going back to Abraham). You are right, technically the word "Jew" was first used as a term for people of the tribe of Judah and first appears in the Bible in 2 Kings 16.6; 25.25. I use it in the same way it is used today, to refer broadly to the decedents of Abraham, or as I said, "the chosen people of Israel." The title would not have made since to Moses in his day, but few Christian's (let along Jews) today know that distinction. Good catch @ErikStephenMusic Here is a great article on the subject if you (or anyone else) wants to dig deeper on it: www.gotquestions.org/first-Jew.html

    My dad was diagnosed with glioblastoma just a few days before Easter of this year (2024) he didn't get the chance to get chemotherapy and radiation. He just passed away on Mother's Day the day before my birthday. My dad was a Baptist as well, so it gives me comfort where hes at and no longer suffering. He had to deal with spinal fluid leaking out of his incision and ear 😭.

    I just finished the first episode and my oh my! Thank you for all the material and resources. I lean't so much and took so many notes in my Notion App! I will definitely be sharing this video with friends and family for their Bible studies. I just noticed that on the Answers in Genesis website, The Young Earth Creationists prefer to be called Biblical Creationists haha! And I'm thinking along the same lines. I would fall under the Biblical Creationists as of today, since the other timelines in evolution and old age are just historical science and the timelines cannot be proved. Can't wait to get started on Part 2!
