So how do you approach a sensor problem that is not the fan circuit? Can something like iStat Menus help - I thought maybe it might help to rule out sensors that are working ok and narrow down the search.

is that the same if fans running high speed also mac working very slow ( guess because smc tells CPU to go slower because of fans)??? it will solve the problem ( i mean slow working mac)?

I have a MacBook A1278 820-2936, it works, the fan is running slow, does not increase the rotation and I realize that it has warmed up, where should I start looking for the problem in your opinion, temperature sensors or the Q5660? I already changed the fan and the problem persists.

If you measure and get to the point to change the smc, it's not the point there! The signals come from the pch/mcp and if that is f***d you will need to change the board! Thanks Louis!
All my components were good in this circuit for me. Symptoms were: high fan, slow processing, kernal like 200%. Changed the battery and I think is now mo' bettah.

Hi Louis, i have macbook a1370 overheating and shutdown with fan stuck 2000rpm, i have reset smc and pram, nvram, flashed efi firmware with spi programmer and flash and reset smc firmware, reset nvram/pram, smc. i have run asd and aht all it's good. manual control fan works. and not increase 2000rpm in automatic. (i've tried to reinstall mac os x not a software problem) i have shematic and boardview do you have any idea.

I have changed resistors and mofset for the fan speed control and no changed. I think it can be in the GPU bad informations or in the CPU or the SMC ???

I'm only a dumb mechanic, but I'm guessing that tach measures rpm, as a tachometer in a car does. I commented about your budgies being alcohol dependent, why don't you have them anymore. We have millions of them in the wild here in the northern territory aus., but they are all green in colour !
