About Dead End Hip Hop:
No scripts. It's pure unfiltered hip hop conversations and album reviews. No politics. No BS. We Are The People.
Shout to Beezy & DEHH!
Mello Music Group I had one question. I'm going to his show at The Echo tomorrow. Is this album gonna be at the merchandise booth?
Should be available.
Ugly Heroes?
It wasn't available yesterday in Phoenix :( I guess I have to jump online and order it
Or maybe you just meant the CD should be available at the merch table lol
Shutouts to Open Mike for the amazing album first off.
I thought this was one of DEHH's best reviews ever. Every member contributed something to the conversation (moreso than on some other reviews). Had the personal relations to the album, pointed out lyrics and really broke down the meaning and how it resonated. Everyone gave really detailed reasoning for how they feel about this album and the topics and style of it.
I think great albums usually bring out a better review, but this one stuck out as one of the best reviews to date. Much love to DEHH and Open Mike
iGlasscoe
It depends how you define “best”. I personally like their hostile reviews more, because it makes me laugh.
But yeah. This review has to be one of their best, in terms of all of them understanding the meaning of the album & chiming in with their own unique opinions. It’s a contender with their To Pimp A Butterfly review.
BowditchXD right, I feel they all had interesting contributions to the discussion and they didn't overlap and repeat each other's points.
Buuut the Lil B I'm Gay or Riff Raff reviews you could call their best too lol
iGlasscoe
Yup. And the Yeezus & Goblin are contenders in that category. haha Especially Goblin. They ganged up on Feefo
iGlasscoe
And yes. They all had unique viewpoints. It was cool, because I haven’t seen them breakdown an album like this in a minute. Again, since the To Pimp A Butterfly review.
TruMusic89 honestly I think he's one of those dudes that require multiple listens to start clicking, and more to fully appreciate everything. Usually I'll listen while pulling up the lyrics and reading along on Genius, cuz it's easy to miss some stuff. Then the next listens after that I usually tend to get a lot more out of an album, especially one like this.
Interesting fact is that Open Mike Eagle went to Uni around the same time as Hannibal Burress. They know each other from way back then hosting open mic nights. They spoke about it on Hannibal's podcast.
Sammus’s verse on Hymnal was amazing.
The Real Legend And she talked about Fleet Foxes and the song is called Hymnal like White Winter Hymnal
Feefo still not knowin what to expect
When you see beezy passionate about an album like that, you know it's tight
I had the chance to see Open Mike Eagle and Sammus while in Chicago like a month ago. Open Mike killed it and so did Sammus, but her set was the weirdest thing I've ever seen, it was the first time I ever witnessed a crowd of people just listen. It was silent the way it was in that Eminem BET Hip hop awards cypher. You could hear a pin drop. The only noise was the crowd applauding and then back to silence and listening. It was some Def Poetry shit.
Eric Davis Sammus is intense live lol
caught them both in Austin last month and yeah, same shit. really appreciated that though as Sammus was definitely an experience. really dug her set.
Open Mike Eagle is always solid! Good review guys
He's always solid but this album is some next-level shit. Love it
Most thought-provoking and impactful hip hop album of the year
Best DEHH review in years, really great job all around. Everyone had a lot of great things to say.
Open Mike is one of the best and most under appreciated songwriters of this day
Sammus is a girl, and a dope rapper. She kind of splits the difference between nerdcore and Kanye West. I'd check out her Infusion EP or her record Pieces in Space if you're looking to get more into her. Open Mike Eagle usually features on at least one song with album with her. I believe she's also a former teacher.
Ken and Beezy are both bald, which means that they are melons. Fantano has some competition!
nPlatin wow you’re a comedic genius
Milk duds bruh
There's a video of all three rubbing them against each other. It's super weird.
Nah, they coconuts
Hmm, I dunno about this one. I mean it could work...
Beezy's facial hair looks like he picked up some droppings from the barber's floor and glued it to his face
Hellfyre is quite literal. Open mike eagle, Busdriver, Nocando and Milo are all occult necromancers using the devil’s magic to enhance their music. I also don’t know what I’m talking about. Keep asking questions
😭😂😭😂
Damn, been waiting on this for almost 2 months, glad its finally out, I personally fucking loveeeeeeee this record!
still waiting on that 808s classic review
Andrew Quinlan We need this
For the culture
Andrew Quinlan Ken ain't having it lol
Ken won't like it telling you off rip.
Ken would run the fade with u bruh
Thank you so much for reviewing this, I've wanted an Open Mike Eagle review from the DEHH crew since Dark Comedy and this is everything I could have wished for. AOTY material for real!
Easily my favorite rap album in 2017 so far.
hymnal and how could anybody feel at home were the songs that caught my ear on first listen, and let me know that this was gonna be some fuckin heat.
open mike just crafts songs and verses like individual products within the album. they’re written with love, attention to detail, and so much damn energy. he really put his life into his pen for this one.
OME's best album yet and one of the best albums of this year, any genre. I'm still playing the shit out of this thing!
Doesn't matter how long it takes just so long as it's done. Album was great. Keep up the reviews.
This Is why I subscribed to this channel I love Open Mike have all his albums/E.P.'s and been busy with other types of music I had no idea this album even came out getting it right now !
ja50n yo, can you send me some of his EPs? I'm missing some of the older ones.
Glad you guys decided to do a full review with everyone. This album grew on me so much and OME deserves the recognition.
Lute - Westside 1996 pt. 2
Injury Reserve - Drive it like it’s stolen
IDK - IWASVERYAD
Earthgang - Robots
Snoh Aalegra - FEELS
Shit even Super Slimey by Future and Thug would be funny to see
Love the show
idk especially
FEELS is a hardass joint lol
It was literally a concept ep. You can't even judge them on it if you tried. Take it for what it is and move on. They won't be discouraged so don't worry about that
Zelinc hold on! what version did u get? mine is an album.
bipin samsohang Really? It's a 7 song concept ep. I'm pretty sure we are talking about the same thing, but consider it different
Sounds really interresting..going to listen to it
Vladimir Klizschko It's amazing man, truly. Enjoy.
There were a couple interviews that touched on his Chicago roots, you can kinda pick it up through the punchline type couplets he throws around, but it’s not brought up explicitly most times. dope project, cool to see you touch on it
One of your best reviews in a minute!!! Love this project! I hit me knee on the bed corner and run a sprint!
*Please review CunninLynguists' new album!* I know Yela and Krit are coming up, but been a minute since CunninLynguists released anything so hopefully you'll have time to do it.
Btw, great review, thanks for putting me on to Open Mike Eagle, great project!
surprised you guys didn't show that much love/talk much about Daydreaming in the Projects. Some of the best production I've heard this year (and obviously Mike hits hard)
anyway, dope review. This shit's AOTY
So this is the best album of the year second Lil Pump third 4:44 fourth Damn fifth all eyez on me
HAHAHAHA.
Excellent point about Ka, Aesop, and Busdriver! That's why I love them so much, it's so clear how much they are in love with words
I only want you guys to review albums you enjoy from now on. This was great. I've heard you guys mention Open Mike Eagle before but now I'm very interested in checking out all his projects.
I never noticed the Behemoth patch on Myke's sweater. I just saw them a couple months ago, and they killed it. Instantly became a fan. Good shit, man.
Review Sammus! Pieces in Space from Oct 2016. It's so good!
I'm definitely going to check this album. If he's in the same class as Ka, he gotta be dope.
Took me a long ass minute before I got into this project. listened to it 3 different times.
Suit Up Yeah man I feel you, only got round to listening to it recently cause I was busy and wanted to sit down and properly enjoy it but the first listen flew right over me until I started humming some of the tunes later. Pretty sure I've listened to this album about 10 times in under in 2 days now
So glad y’all reviewed this album. This is definitely his best work to date!
This made me happy, thank you for making this.
I love that mayo vs. mustered line.
Thank you for reviewing this! loved this album so much
Amazing album and review! Thanks guys, I agree this is one of the best reviews and everyone seemed jazzed about it too.
PLEASE review Infusion by Sammus. Ive been hoping for a while to have her name come up on this show
David Ruhl Pieces in Space is super dope too.
i felt like happy wasteland was “it was a good day” if that one good day never happened. the frustration and asking “Can we get at least one day without violence?!”
I've been waiting for this one! This album is incredible. Thanks DEHH for shining a light on this project. Check it out if you haven't!
Haha what type of excuse is that at the end when it is so easy to find out when a show is.. Anyways.. Fantastic review guys, glad that you all did this together because this album definitely deserves it. Open Mike Eagle is absolutely one of the best rappers out right now, I'm in full agreeance. The whole album rocks but my favorite song is "Happy Wasteland Day" I just can't get over how perfect that song is, but the whole thing is incredible. I've had the pleasure of seeing Open Mike Eagle twice this year, one back in summer when he opened for Aesop Rock and one just last Saturday when he did his own show at a dope bar/concert place. He is an incredible guy, and he fucking KILLS live performances. I cannot believe how fucking awesome he is live, the REST OF THE DEHH CREW MISSED OUT! DON'T TRY TO BLAME MYKE, YOU ALL SHOULD'VE SEEN OPEN MIKE WITH MYKE! MAN YOU MISSED OUT!!!! Open Mike Eagle rocks!
didn't think this would be reviewed. i'm hype
Could u guys do a discussion on hick hop?? I would really love to hear you're opinions on it
Just saw him and billy woods in Phoenix last night. Such an amazing show! Get on it if they come to your city
Yesss waiting for this I've been bumping this for a while
This is my favourite hip hop album of the year next to Tyler's Flowerboy. Open Mike Eagle dragged me into his world with the first beat of Dark Comedy Hour. He became one of my favourite rappers since then. I think the "he is so calm that when he gets even a little fired up it hits you" is on point. Busdriver and Aesop have that same thing about them. When Busdriver calls your manager a "bitch nigga" (I forgot which track he did that on) you'll be like "Damn, I think my manager is a bitch nigga!" It just hits harder. Same with Mike Eagle. It's one of my favourite qualities about him.
Who is Myke talking about when he says Kah(?) because I love Aes, Busdriver, and OME and I'd like to check someone out if they're being compared to them.
Did you ever figure it out? Lmao
Open Mike Eagle is really chill, saw him at Low End Theory Festival 2016
Sammus is a woman
Too much of life is moooooood
a rad bad woman at that
were talking about samus aran right
@ Mike Possibly Milo is up there with them as great wordsmiths...beautiful album, great review fellas.
Shout out to the album artwork. Best I've seen in a while.
Happy you did this project!!
I ain't gon' lie, I've never heard of this man, but y'all damn sure made me interested in checking out his music now.
Seriously though, this album is fire! Open Mike Eagle puts on a solid live performance too. He's doing something different and he's going against the grain. It's a breath of fresh air.
Big K.R.I.T.: 4eva is a Mighty Long Time 🔥
Album of the year. Easy.
Thanks for the dope review DEHH!
BTW @beezy Kenny Segal made that No Selling beat. Illingsworth did the TLDR and Daydreaming beats
I'm surprised you all didn't know about Sammus. She's super dope with some great mixtapes and I'm glad Open Mike put her on.
Saw his show in Cincinnati - super chill guy with great music . S/o to open mike
How do they not have one million subscribers yet smh
Lol, that samus bit made me chuckle. For obvious reasons
Open Mike Eagle is new to me.
What should I listen to get into his music ???
Nikhil Bhagat dark comedy!
Dark Comedy and A Special Episode EP
Dark Comedy and you should also check out Hella Personal Film Festival
Hella Personal Film Festival.
You honestly can't go wrong with any project of his. Dark Comedy is my personal favorite, but they're all good
Feefo reviews remind me of Spotify hiphop mixes of each year
@Dehh she performed in Atlanta at 629 she dope
Thanks for this!
He would be an awesome guest on your show.
This review was brilliant, good work
Still waiting on that Cool Kids album review. But besides that this review was very necessary. This is a VERY good album.
Few years late, but i finally just ordered this lol.

I did not know he was from Chicago bruh lol fckn dope another gem to add
Honestly. My rap album of the year
It took me a few listens to really get into this album, but I love it. I would add billy woods to Myke's list, in my opinion.
